I just sat in one and I'm 6'2" as well, I was disappointed at the way my knees were kept up too high. Come on Honda this is the American market, we need room!
If they make it too big then it wont fit on the trails. The whole point of a side by side is that you can take it on very narrow trails that tear up off road cars. It sounsd like an old Jeep CJ or TJ is better for you.
I'm a honda fan but their current ATV lineup isn't anything to brag about after they discountied the TRX450R and 400X. I always thought the Turbo S was the easiest SxS to travel quickly it's very confidence inspiring and never thought it was trying to kill me.
A lot of us have that love-hate relationship right now with Honda over their sport quad ATVs. The reason they discontinued them was dealers couldn't sell new machines because the used market was so flooded no one was going to pay 2, 3 , or 4 times the price used just to buy new. I'll have to talk to my insider about it, but I'm pretty sure if you don't see them come back this year they'll be back next year. If you look across the board, Honda has completely revamped all phases of their powersports division. They've come out with a ton of wildly popular new motorcycles, dirt bikes, and dual sports. They focused next on the side by side market because of how much more profitable they are (which the dealers desperately needed), and the used 400/450 atv market is starting to dry up a little so I think they may give it one more year and by then have some super exciting machines for us. If their stuff wasn't so reliable they probably wouldn't be on this situation. Trust me though, there are tons of people (myself included) who share the same sentiment with you. I'll talk to my insider friend to see if he knows anything. He knew almost 2 years before the Talon came out that Honda was working on a new sport side by side
Can't wait to see how these stand up to eastern trails. Unlike the YXZ it has low range and it also has a unique brake based front diff. It will be interesting how everything stands up to trail abuse and drivetrain shock. I've seen abusive videos where YXZ clutches failed (but they have improved it somewhat with a lower first gear.) The Talon's low range will help mitigate this problem. Many with CVT belts failing in about 400 miles with lots of drags and oversized tires. How will the DCT handle oversized tires? You have to respect Honda for keeping the power level almost reasonable. Eastern riders don't need 150HP nowhere here to use that kind of power legally or even vaguely safely. Interesting days ahead in SXS world.
With the rear shocks mounted outbound of the trailing arms, Honda won't even commit to them being able to run 30's, hence the tiny little 28's. Not a chance fitting 32's like on a stock XP Rzr or CanAm.
Really? You can ask that with a straight face, first upgrade almost anyone with any machine does is larger tires, especially with a sport machine. Not saying that this is a bad machine, it’s not, it’s a great first offering, just being honest about it’s shortcomings as well.

At our Honda shop we have replaced a few clutches on 700 & 1000 Pioneers from people abusing them. Quite the job. I would rather replace a belt any day on a CVT
I think the whole "Honda's are built to last 20 years" mantra is from the ordinary people who buy them. Old guys that drive 20mph everywhere and think mayonnaise is too spicy.
So I know this is a SXS not a lawn mower, but I own a lawn care business and Honda mowers are ok but they are expensive, complicated, and have protected dealer networks that make parts and repairs outrageously expensive. Is it the same for their ATV's? I had Honda mowers but went with exmark walk behinds as they were cheaper overall and cut better, and I can order parts online. Just wondering if that is the same with their ATV's, they are built well but more than anything you pay for the name.
No. Honda ATVs, motorcycles, and dirt bikes have a great reputation for reliability and also parts tend to cost less than direct competitors because they sell more units (not always). Not sure what machines you were using for walk behinds, but the reason their push mowers cost a little more was because they lasted a lot longer. We used to see plenty of Hondas over 15 years old at the small engine shop I used to work at as a parts manager/service writer. The only cost issue I ever saw on the Hondas was the price of replacement tires and replacement parts for the riding mowers (which are very obscure). The replacement tires were just as much as a new unit, but we found an aftermarket supplier who offered quality replacements at a fraction of the Honda cost.
@@gmcwayoflife I had HRC216's with blade brakes. The transmissions went out and were like 400 bucks each. I run exmark now which is Toro commercial. And they are miles ahead of honda on build quality. Parts are also cheaper. I think hondas are respectable but are not built to be used commercially.
Good review. But I think you really missed the boat by not including the sound byte of that thing shifting in auto mode on a full pull. That’s what sets that thing apart. All high end sxs’s have great suspension. But tranny to motor is where this one stands out
@@ryant8593 Actually you are wrong. The pioneer is still burning up due to overheating. The fix is supposed to be high flow pump, but thus far not a 100% fix.
The only reason the clutches are burning up is because people keep them in high range on trails. The same idiot that burns up a cvt by keeping in high, will burn up a dct doing the same.
Great video! Looks like the Talon is under powered and no room for us bigger guys. I could see your knees very close to the wheel and an even tighter fit than even the RZR. It also looked as if the suspension was "Bucking" in the rear while taking the whoops. The thing that Honda wins is reliability. All Honda power plants will last for years!
Regardless of the helmet, it's always tough to get clean audio while riding. The mouthpiece on this helmet certainly didn't help though. We're working on some new solutions so stay tuned for non-box audio!
if they were consumed with audio quality they'd just narrate the audio and we'd lose the live impressions of the SxS. I'd gladly trade crystal clear audio away in favour of a review where they're detailing how it feels at that exact moment instead of trying to remember a week later in a studio.
@@TFLoffroad id like to suggest watching some motovloggers many of them have good formulas for helmet audio with minimal wind noise clear voice input and good engine and exhaust sounds in the background. but yeah get rid of that helmet you'll never produce quality audio with that respirator over your face might as well try to talk through a kazoo.
The quality of Honda is 1000x better than every side by side, ATV & UTV in market, yes some more Horses are needed but Honda allready have some super surprises! Polaris, CanAm and all will be very disapointed.
because they have just as much tech involved in producing them. where cars have investment into interior and sound reduction these have investment into suspension and performance go look and see how much it costs too build a trophy truck and you will appreciate the price of a new SxS
How does the R seating position and leg room feel compared to the X? Are they the same? Do you have more in the R since it’s longer? I’m 5’10” so if your not “uncomfortable” at 6’2” then I should be fine but I’m a big boy so I’m asking!

SCHEND0 I’m not sure on that. I typed in talon dyno and alba racing said it was 85.9 whp I believe with a claimed 104 that’s a 17% loss. And they put the rzr xp 1000 at 83 hp which is about a 25% loss.
We have some LONG forest service roads that could use the Tallon R up here in BC. My brother has a few jem claims that are about 60km up FSRs, and getting to them quickly is impossible at the moment .
You really should consider a canam or a wildcat. Canam might be the Maserati but wildcat is the Corvette. It had the best handling in the business. You break belts infrequently when you break them in properly.
It may last. But 100hp to the far 1000 turbo 168hp. Its untouchable. It may be fun but so is my atc200. So the guy said it didnt feel like it was gonna kill him.......the rzr is for people who like adrenaline and can really push thier limits. Congrats Honda. I may buy one for my dad or my little cousins. Nothing but props for trying to stay competitive
If you think that they could use more power, how about when you add another adult in there? My RZR 800 is fast as hell, and never bottoms out, when I'm by myself...until you add another person.
Honda's also put down the power reliably. our pioneer 1000 with 77hp is quicker than our Maverick turbo ever was. Honda will always offer lower power, but a real transmission. Making 160hp is great, but the cvt isn't putting that down and it's unreliable.
Its irritating that he is comparing this Naturally aspirated 1000 to the turbo rzr and the turbo can am which are around 8k more expensive than the talon. It would be a more fair comparison to compare this to the also naturally aspiration rzr and can am , which make roughly the same power and cost approximately the same.
Love your videos. Excellent information. Just a recommendation, do a voiceover instead of talking while driving. It's hard listening to someone yell while huffing and puffing. Lol.
For similar performance the talon comes in at 20k and the rzr xp 1000 comes in at 18k obviously the rzr is going to sell more they're too close performance wise to justify 2k and that's the talon not the higher performance version.
I don't really know anything about SXS but what I like about the Honda is no CVT. I don't care if it weighs more just CVTs are so unreliable. I hear people talk about CVTs and anyone that has owned a snowmobile knows they suck. They break, you loose power, they overheat, you have to balance and adjust the clutch. I just want something that doesn't deal with that. Maybe I'm wrong I don't know. I wouldn't let my wife buy a car with a CVT in it either. I'd rather use battle proven transmissions.
You nor I know if it is or isnt yet. Bottom line is dct puts power down a lot better than cvt. I bet a straight line race would be super close. The handling is what I'm curious about.
@@ryanhill5618 so you call me an idiot, but don't say anything beyond that to prove that I'm an idiot. Guess that means you have no real argument against what I said.
@@ryanhill5618 if you think it isn't close you're an idiot. My rzr s 1000 usually outruns rzr xp 1000's due to the power to weight advantage. Yxz 1000's can usually outrun me. The honda might have a little less power, but its transmission just like the Yamaha, puts the power down worlds better than a cvt setup.
Again though this is apples to oranges. I bet the talon is a fine sxs.
even as a die hard polaris fan if i couldnt get a rzr i would be snagging one of these
Good review. But I think you really missed the boat by not including the sound byte of that thing shifting in auto mode on a full pull. That’s what sets that thing apart. All high end sxs’s have great suspension. But tranny to motor is where this one stands out
Darren Desautels seriously always too much music to videos like this!
The pioneer 1000s were burning clutches when they first came out. The talon is geared alot higher so I'm a little skeptical. Time will tell.
Talon has a 6 low gear and 6 high gear.
100% False.
@@ryant8593 Actually you are wrong. The pioneer is still burning up due to overheating. The fix is supposed to be high flow pump, but thus far not a 100% fix.
@@ryant8593 100% true they had a clutch cover recall for 2016 and 17 models.
The only reason the clutches are burning up is because people keep them in high range on trails. The same idiot that burns up a cvt by keeping in high, will burn up a dct doing the same.
Good video of the Talon.. We will have our hands on one soon
Should have chosen a better helmet for reviewing this machine. Sounds like you're in a box not in a sxs
Regardless of the helmet, it's always tough to get clean audio while riding. The mouthpiece on this helmet certainly didn't help though. We're working on some new solutions so stay tuned for non-box audio!
TFLoffroad it’s not that bad
Makes it sound like you're out of breath from running.
if they were consumed with audio quality they'd just narrate the audio and we'd lose the live impressions of the SxS.
IF THE X3 DIDN'T KILL THE RZR, THE TALON SURE IS NOT GOING 2.
Add intake and exhaust upgrade and get a few extra ponies...
How does it compare against the maverick sport 1000r
Where did you get that helmet? Can you send me a link
Loving the R
Four seater available???
What only a 299LB bed??? The other brands give us a full 300 dammit!
When you’re talking about the 1000r you are showing the 1000x and vice versa. Oops!
love this machine , i wish i would have enough money to buy one
What kinda helmet is that? Built in filter?!
The quality of Honda is 1000x better than every side by side, ATV & UTV in market, yes some more Horses are needed but Honda allready have some super surprises! Polaris, CanAm and all will be very disapointed.
Paddle shifters? So cool!
Left out the most important spec, the price. $20,000. Wowie! I can never understand how these cost as much as a new car. Holy cow!
because they have just as much tech involved in producing them. where cars have investment into interior and sound reduction these have investment into suspension and performance go look and see how much it costs too build a trophy truck and you will appreciate the price of a new SxS
I really like the enclosed helmet, no worry about goggles, does it fog up or do you put a defogger on it? Brand?
It's a Ski Doo helmet...bvs2. they're over $300
How does the R seating position and leg room feel compared to the X?
Are they the same? Do you have more in the R since it’s longer?
I’m 5’10” so if your not “uncomfortable” at 6’2” then I should be fine but I’m a big boy so I’m asking!
The cabs are the same from the X to the R, the difference in length comes from suspension
I bought a Polaris Turbo S this year. Gotta say I almost wish I had waited. I will be watching these. Might just need a second machine. :)
Just wait till honda releases the turbo version of it.Its gonna happen sooner or later.
@@RideRedFred they wont release a turbo model Haha. There will be a turbo accessory you can buy on top of your purchase
Uh oh, looks like Polaris and Yamaha are going to have some tough competition against Honda with this
ChevyDude do u think Honda is a little behind??? How does this compare to the turbo s?? I don’t think there is any competition
I like your helmet. What’s the flip down flap where your mouth is called?
Best helmet I’ve ever owned for snowmobiling.... I wouldn’t recommend it for summer riding.... The mouthpiece is great for getting rid of breath in the cold air but restrictive in the summer when it’s not necessary!
Hmmmm. Not sure if I’m sold yet. 🤔. I’ve always been a Honda guy but Polaris has been in the side by side game for awhile.
One question for ya bud.. Would u buy one before yxz-rzr turbo-x3. Also I can get a 1000 turbo rzr for 17,500 out the door"Abrams power sports" in Wisconsin. Thanks. I'm leaning towards yxz tho same price as turbo rzr
Also I have 16 rzr trail that is a blast just want little more
the sxs blog guys say the talon pulls way better than the yxz qnd shifts better and has better suspension might want to look deeper
Thanks I watched sxsblog too. Honda dealership in WISCONSIN said will be in stock April 3.
Here's one for yas how about live in canada for 2 seconds and pay over 26k for the Honda and well over 30k for the x3 and rzr turbo out the door
@@WoodsUnknown dont live in Canada you pay like 50% income tax too dont you or something insane like that? "free" healthcare tho haha
great vid. getting a red R.
Rzr killer maybe you should put more thought into the title, how about yxz killer. That I would believe.
Title made you click on the video, I think that was the idea!
I didnt click 4 the title I clicked because I seen honda but he is right .not even close to a rzr
Another Rzr fan boy runnin rubber band machines. Yamaha is a 3 cylinder to your 2 cylinder rubber machines haha. Boy's who don't know how to shift just steer.
I love Hondas but from what I have seen, its no yxz killer! honda are allways on safe and not to wild side! awesome sxs though!
Definitely not going to beat a YXZ
Other 1000s might have a little bit more hp but they loose so much going through the cvt. This and the Yamaha are the only way to go
theman68and1 Hondas DCT loses about 30% power to the wheels. RZR only losses 17% with their CVT.
SCHEND0 I’m not sure on that. I typed in talon dyno and alba racing said it was 85.9 whp I believe with a claimed 104 that’s a 17% loss. And they put the rzr xp 1000 at 83 hp which is about a 25% loss.
its about time Honda came out with a side by side what took so long
What helmet is that?
20 grand is alot for a toy any suggestions for a side by side under 7k? Any expertise is appreciated!
Matthew Nagle 2008 Yamaha rhino 660, find one someone dumped a lot of money into that needs to upgrade to a can am.
@@Upliftyourbrothers thanks man!
We have some LONG forest service roads that could use the Tallon R up here in BC. My brother has a few jem claims that are about 60km up FSRs, and getting to them quickly is impossible at the moment .
Side by side race. RZR and Talon and X3?????
My rzrs belt snapped so called my buddy to rescue me with his rzr. While towing me his belt also snapped.Im getting a honda.
You really should consider a canam or a wildcat. Canam might be the Maserati but wildcat is the Corvette. It had the best handling in the business. You break belts infrequently when you break them in properly.
Have fun replacing a clutch when the Honda breaks
Sounds like your belts weren’t broken in, or don’t use low gear enough, or you don’t change the belt at proper time intervals
Stay out of high side
Yeah this video was very well done.
Best ATV Honda ever made was the FL250, FL350 and the FL400. I'd take any of those over a these side by sides.
I really love these buggys/atvs
Technically UTV or SxS. But ya they are the most fun you can have in my opinion!
Lets see how this thing does on the Chute or 777.
What kind of helmet are you wearing with the dusk mask made in?, I have never seen one like it.
Any good for mud
Always been a Honda person love the look of the talon. Got a 2016 rzr dont like it want the honda talon
Wtf. No R in Canada. Guess I'll hafta wait till they do bring it here. I want the R
Maybe a Wildcat Killer, Defiantly not a X3 or rzr killer.
Damn...I'm still sporting my 2011 Polaris rzr 900xp with 88hp. Even with 88hp it runs great!!!
If you think that they could use more power, how about when you add another adult in there? My RZR 800 is fast as hell, and never bottoms out, when I'm by myself...until you add another person.
Great video
“Just a little over 100 hp”.....Honda, welcome to 2013.....
Honda's also put down the power reliably. our pioneer 1000 with 77hp is quicker than our Maverick turbo ever was. Honda will always offer lower power, but a real transmission. Making 160hp is great, but the cvt isn't putting that down and it's unreliable.
Having the most HP doesn't make a vehicle better or even better in a race "Suzuki Hayabusa" can get smoked by a lower power bike.
Omg I almost pissed myself when I saw that helmet 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 friggin ant man's older brother
Good thing you put a ? On the thumbnail definitely not a rzr killer an I'm not a polaris guy
You nor I know if it is or isnt yet. Bottom line is dct puts power down a lot better than cvt. I bet a straight line race would be super close. The handling is what I'm curious about.
@@mattdyer489 haha you're an idiot
@@ryanhill5618 so you call me an idiot, but don't say anything beyond that to prove that I'm an idiot. Guess that means you have no real argument against what I said.
@@mattdyer489 if you think it's even close like I said you're an idiot
@@ryanhill5618 if you think it isn't close you're an idiot. My rzr s 1000 usually outruns rzr xp 1000's due to the power to weight advantage. Yxz 1000's can usually outrun me. The honda might have a little less power, but its transmission just like the Yamaha, puts the power down worlds better than a cvt setup. You're ignoring facts like the typical polaris fanboy, or honda hater. Also have to remember that the honda is built to compete with no turbo models.
all of that is fine and dandy in the dessert but im in the woods how doest it do there
Straight up that’s the greatest helmet I’ve ever seen! LoL I just can’t!!!!
Always nice when you can rescue a Polaris driver with "not a Polaris!" :)
when canam stopped making the og maverick. Honda bought the assembly line continued making them with a couple small changes.
