  • The Honda Talon turbo kit from Jackson Racing is said to add 60% more power than stock, which should put the car in the 160hp range. We recently had our first brief test of the Talon 1000R with a Jackson Racing turbo kit and it did not disappoint. The turbo kit is sure to be a hit with SXS racers and sand duners alike, whether you choose the Talon 1000X, 1000R or the new Talon 1000 X-4.

    i wish polaris and can am would make dct transmission a option on there machines. There sport and there utility machines should have a gear on gear transmission option.they would be no chance of wet belt slipping issues or over heated belts and no belt changes in the middle of nowhere. i like cvts but give us more options👍

    in the SXSBlog video at this same event they talked with the Jackson Racing guy and he said that if Honda determines the turbo was the cause for engine failure then the engine wouldn't be warrantied. This kit doesn't void your warranty per say but it isn't covered under Honda's warranty either from the information I saw. I would love further conformation of either side.

    • @UTVonDemand
      @UTVonDemand  5 років тому +2

      We contacted Honda directly regarding this for you. Your understanding is pretty much spot-on. Adding the turbocharger like any other aftermarket part does not automatically void your factory warranty. However, if adding that aftermarket part is determined to have caused engine failure, the manufacturer has the right not to warranty it. We pretty much read that as, you're at the mercy of the manufacturer on a case-by-case basis. If your warranty means more than horsepower it's probably not a good idea. However, once that factory warranty is up ... I hope this helps.

      Ok so my question is why is this turbo $5,500? Every turbo I’ve ever purchased for a SxS has only been $2,500 to $3,000. It has an inter cooler just like the rest. It boost power by up to 60% just like the rest. It is made out out aluminum just like the rest. It is complete bolt on just like the rest. Why double the price. That puts this Talon at the same price of the much more powerful Can Am X3 now with 195 HP. What a let down Honda. You should have never even introduced this piece of sh- - that’s way over priced and still under powered. What a joke.

      UTVonDemand Polaris RZR makes one for $21,000 168 HP and 32” tires. So I’m a little curious on what Honda will do. If Honda could just even come close to the $21,000 I just mite consider it. Honda came quickly with 4 seater and honestly surprised with the Fox Live Valve stuff. I would expect Honda to make a turbo model in the future. If they don't they will feel it in their sales. @@UTVonDemand yes, quite a lot of miles on an R.
      The gearing of it after 3rd isn't great, really bogs down, especially while climbing in the dunes.
      It seems to constantly want to up shift, killing the momentum, and leaving you to have to keep shifting back down gears, and fighting that back and forth. That's while in sport.
      Then if you want to drive it in manual mode you can't see the tach to not bounce it off the rev limiter every gear.
      It's pretty good on the trails, but when the tires start spinning it up shifts, taking you out of the power band where you want to be, can be frustrating at times.
      That's just a brief explanation of my issues with it.

There were a couple editors complaining about upshifting at inopportune times. We wonder if it's possible to make an automatic gearbox transmission perform perfectly in any situation. Fortunately, you can take manual control at times when you feel it's necessary. Thanks for sharing your opinion. Your explanation makes a lot of sense.

      UTVonDemand I’m not arguing that fact that a gear box transmission is more efficient at transferring power then a belt. I agree with you on that. What I’m trying to say is that the efficiency from a gearbox to a well tuned cvt clutch is not some overwhelming difference like people make it out to be so it makes the product sound so much better even though it has less hp. If so I would see it on the race track. Ask any utv racer and he’ll say the same. They all are running the about the same hp, all are tuned and built up. If the manual tranny was so much better then the belt machine wouldn’t have a chance. So if it dose come down to chassis then the talk of the manual being the best is bull. @@UTVonDemand That's plain and simple...rape. For that kind of money, it should be installed and free lifetime washes. Where do these people get off asking that much money for a few hundred dollars worth of stuff? They want to pay for their minimal R&D in the first 100 sales? Sorry, that is ridiculous.

      Nunya Biz I mean a tune alone is worth more than a few hundred bucks. And a garret turbo cost more than a few hundred bucks of course depends on the spec. Yea price is high but as long as people pay they will keep selling them . Turbo s is a 30k car basically is it worth it probably not but people pay it

    Do all these things run cvt transmissions?

    • @UTVonDemand
      @UTVonDemand  5 років тому +2

      No, The Hondas have 5 speed gear boxes with reverse. They can be ran an auto shift or manual paddle shift mode. Yamaha yxz1000r is available with a fully manual 5-speed with a clutch or electronic paddle shifters. Most of the other shoes CVT Transmissions. Thanks for the question. Please don't hesitate to hit us back if you have anymore.

      @@clubsport9334 Welcome to the USA! You come from Australia and your based near Moab? We need to take you to a casino. You have all kinds of good luck. Yes, side-by-sides are a lot of fun. If you want to try it out, I would look for a local place that does tours of Moab. There are probably also rental companies out there but if you haven't tried it, going with someone experienced might be the best first step. If you decide to give it a try, keep us posted on how you're off road Adventures go.

      Honda's transmission is a SIX gear dual clutch transmission (called DCT). Research the tech, it's an awesome achievement. There is not a belt of any type on the Talon.
