I would i rather to pick up a Rubicon then a Side-by-side you will be spinning a lot more money on a side beside then on a Jeep got a buy the side-by-side gotta buy a trailer than gotta by truck to tow it with a Jeep go anywhere in the world that you want to go but that's just my opinion.
As a former pricing analyst, I can tell you this: very simply, the reason they are so expensive is because people are willing to buy them at that price. I would bet that the margins they make on the way more expensive machines are greater than the older ones.
I just bought my first side by side, a 2019 RZR XP 1000. I paid $17,000 out the door for it and after 3 days of riding, I say it is expensive but I have had a blast riding with my wife. I am 45 years old and am a far cry from rich. It is all about choices for me. I drive a 2004 rusted out Dodge so I could afford my new toy. So far I don't regret spending the cash and would recommend buying one to anyone.
@@jamesbarnes1847 I just bought the pro xp premium for 25k got my wife the 2019 can am maverick trail 1000 dps last year for like 15k if its something you love to do and can afford have fun with your hard earned money they are definitely a blast and considering how much I can dump into a mud truck in about 5 minutes they are acually quite cheap and when i break it dont feel as bad fixing it for 500 vs the 10 grand I'd have into repairing the big mudder worth every penny without a doubt.
@@jamesbarnes1847 I justify it with I don’t want to be old thinking about all the things I didn’t go do just to save a buck that in the end doesn’t matter when you die. If you can afford it do it!
Been motorcycle riding and camping our whole lives, 40+ years, bought a RZR this year a little skeptical, but excited and it's the best damn money we've spent. Went out Thanksgiving weekend and didn't even ride our bikes. The RZR is an absolute blast and something our entire family enjoyed. Worth every single penny!
@@diversedad7954 I would love a KTM 300 two-stroke, but a YZ250 will give more bang for the buck. in my experience, my YZ250 has taken me anywhere I'm capable of going
@@Jemgirly yep they are great but I got my xcw 300 for a steal and it's amazing in the woods! Either way, unless Im taking my family out with me in 1 vehicle, dirt bikes are Def more fun for a fraction of the cost of one of these machines. These expensive side by sides are for people with too much money and not enough talent to be in the outdoors on a powerful machine.
how many people really do have that to throw away though? most don't own most of anything they have, the bank owns it all. people just LOVE making payments though.
@@zzz7zzz9 apparently just be enough to keep that market going. I guess you could look at vehicle's the same way. Who has 100k for a Porsche yet they keep selling. Not going to lie 30k way to much for a sxs but it's for the ppl that can buy it obviously. I prefer to buy older and build it myself. They all get down the trail doesn't matter make model or year. Some might just be comfier than others, hats off to those who have the money to spend on that toy.
You're not going to believe this but some of us make wise investments, save our money, don't eat out all the time and spend money like crazy. I purchased my RZR Turbo cash and over the past 2 years have probably put another 20k into it. Many of the people I ride with are in the same boat. A lot of people just don't know how to manage their money in the first place.
Not a toy. Depends where you live. here in Lake Havasu city this is literally a daily driver. Otherwise, yeah maybe it's a toy. Here, it's fun at any moment.
I’ve had my turbo S for about two months now and don’t regret it at all. This machine pulls my family together to ride places that have NO CELL SERVICE!! .....we truly have fun together and build memories that will last a lifetime.
Its expensive no doubt . But if you work and you want one I say buy one . I'm going to buy a 2019 high lifter 1000xp . Making memories with your family priceless . You cant take the money with you . You only live once .
Jeremy Conlee I agree just bought a 1000xp2 non turbo. It’s fast enough and I didn’t go with the other options either but I got it for $18k plus tax. Of coarse you have to do some upgrades belts better cage roof street legal kit windshield Light bar so I’ll be into it for 23/24 but like you said you’re not taking it with you and I pay cash for my toys. Enjoy life while you can
@@noprofilepic5083 You are also in charge of that. What you make is directly relative to what you want to make and how hard you grind. A respectable job and being happy with your earnings is a good thing, but don't get mad because others can just drop this kind of money to recreate.. You can always get more money. They just did already. I'll be in this position in a couple years. I'm also busting ass to do it..
See that makes sense and i could justify the price if that was the case. But Texas doesn’t allow it. So $30,000 for something i can only drive offroad isint worth it
That's just plain silly. This isn't about Lazlo's hierarchy of NEEDS. Food is Needs. For many they aren't expensive. Just do what you want and let others do the same.
id104335409 They get more and more expensive because of the mentality of the general public. The “GOTTA PAY TO PLAY” mentality is driving up the prices on EVERYTHING. These companies know UA-cam is a good source for advertising. Most of the reviewers on here aren’t even buying them they are loaners from Car companies or motorcycle shops for just review purposes. But the general public is just keeping up with the next guy/reviewer. Like at the very end he says once you get into one its worth it. But they know once you take that time to sit in one and actually drive it its pretty much too late and then your mortgaging your house or spending your kids college money on a product no one even needs. Its like a boat. You can only drive it in limited areas depending on where you live. Also you have to buy a trailer to even tow it places. 🥴 They are cool as hell but in another 10-15 years these will be 50k and thats completely the publics fault for making the prices go up.
I prefer boats over UTV, but also have to admit, my boat doesn't have suspension, brakes, tires, ride control, head lights, etc. Boats have a hard time justifying their cost compared to an ATV/UTV.
I think also boats are more costly to produce labor -wise. Most boats aren’t stamped out in an automated factory. There’s a lot of labor in the hull layup and assembly.
Or 30k for a first gen 6cyl Tacoma or t100 or ranger or dakotah with engine upgrades suspension bumpers winch and wheels tires and it still is allowed on roads and insurance is cheaper and I bet your still not even at 20k
@@claireelliot6846 I just sold my 16 570 and trailer for 7k it was a waste of money I lost money on mpgs towing it and they cost more at parks they cost more in maintenance ECT back to a raptor 700 for me.
If you think SXS’s are overpriced for what they are... I recommend you step into a Harley dealership. 30-40+ thousand dollars for (their high end) motorcycles....
@@moultonditcher6187 Losing appeal to the young? They never have appealed to the young. The average age of the Harley buyer is now 59, up from 52 ten years ago. They are overpriced and underpowered junk. A 25 year old wants a $8500 Yamaha FZ-07 or equivalent, used for $6000.
I'm a tech at a Can-Am dealer, it is truly amazing what X3s are capable of. We have kits to easily take them to 225HP. That's 4x4 locked front and rear burn out territory lol
the price has actually come down on them quite a lot as well, they've just continued to add higher and higher performance models and competition has increased. The XP 1000s used to be 20k and the XP Turbos used to be 25k. Now you can get an XP 1000 for 14-16k even they're running good deals or end of year sales and you can get an XP Turbo for under 20k. And they've also added the single seat RS1 that you can get for less than 14k and still have a blast with over 100hp.
These are fun to drive, but You missed some big points on why these are so expensive: DEALER PROFIT, DISTRIBUTOR PROFIT, & MANUFACTURER PROFIT. I am in manufacturing and i can tell you $30k is way over the cost of parts and labor to assemble (and warranty costs). Also, This is nothing like a trophy truck - period. They both have 4 wheels and some suspension travel, but thats about it.
Agree about the trophy truck/race car comment. I came in looking for someone thinking the same. I’d wager a C6 Zr1 (road car) is closer to a C6.R (race car) than a Rzr to a Trophy truck.
You forgot to mention all the gov build regulations that do not apply to these machines. Cars cost so much because of those added gov fees. Under OBUMERs eight years the cost of a vehicle increased 2 to 4 thousand dollar due to all the added regulations. These have very little. Tells you how much of a killing these companies are making with these way over priced products.
russ hendrix you are correct! tfl was way off comparing a utv to a trophy turck, wow. he was comparing suspension travel only but the worst analogy he could've came up with. it really does show his limited knowledge of the industry. he should be comparing these to motorcycle powered rails. they had the same travel and more, more hp and half the wet weight but were closer to 1000cc engines and purpose built and closer price tags.
I am from a motocross background. Raced for years on bikes and quads. Oh and I had the three wheelers back in the day (really showing my age here). I have had lifted offroad trucks also. So anyway I got a utv in 2016. I bought a RZR xp1000 turbo. Then here in early 2018 I bought a Ranger XP900 H.O. crew lifted 6 inches. I got my rzr to have fun on jumps and fast riding. Being older got something with a roll cage. I use the ranger for working around our property. While I do not like the high cost of these units. I do feel as though they cannot be compared to a truck or jeep. Simply just built very differently. I live in a rural area so I do travel on public roads for short distances. Usually within two miles of my shop. I do have a bragging story in which I am probably one of the few people that has taken their active county sheriff for a 70mph ride on a public road because he asked me "show me what this thing will do".
lol, no. the county sheriff wanted to have some fun on his day off, and also done some inquiry on the unit that he was using. he was investigating while off duty.. . . more than likely. aaaaannd also had some fun.
We use our SxS, diesel Bobcat 3400XL (made by polaris), for hunting and work around the property. Also had a Jeep, which got sold and happy it's gone. The Jeep would beat you to death, was a pain to climb in and fall out of, didnt have cargo space or a dump bed, was a pain to clean up since you could wash it out (blood, mud etc) and was far less capable. We use the SxS for everything and they've also changed the way people hunt and work. Getting firewood, spraying weeds, feeding livestock, hunting, evening sight seeing trips and the list on and on....another big difference is the SxS really puts you outdoors.
From what I've seen out here in Utah, all the rich Mormons just gobble these things up like candy. But everything is a competition with Mormons, so go figure.
@@VoIPPortland I don't think side by sides were around that long ago. There were 4 wheelers/ATVs but today's ATVs would embarrass them on every front. So apples to apples we have better performing machines and now add inflation and the value of the dollar going down slowly every year and today's stuff looks expensive. A Mustang GT in 1990 was around $14,000, today's Mustang GTs are $35,000. But how much more horsepower, fit and finish, comfort, features, suspension, brakes and safety is in the new ones? Stuff gets better and the dollar looses value. There's why prices are where they are.
I picked up a 2015 RZR 900 4 seater with 2200 miles for $12.500. You can't compare any large 4x4 vehicle to a side by side. Side by sides are sooooooooooooo much more fun. You can go a lot more places than you ever will in any jeep. Mine is street legal and I can go nearly a month before filling up the tank. It's a great machine to take to work, and it sure as hell beats the fuel my truck uses. RZR's all day long baby!
I personally think the prices are a little excessive.... As well, when you spend $35,000 on a SxS and it comes with 6 month warranty, that’s kind of insufficient as well.... I think if some brands warrantied their machines for longer periods of time it would help justify the price.... Sad that you spend the money they command and 800 miles later when the warranty is done you’re replacing stuff that has worn out.... I agree they’re capable and superior to jeeps etc especially when you get something like the Turbo S with 25” of suspension.... Either way, the price has exploded in recent years and like snowmobiling, companies would be wise to offer value models so more people can enter the sport.... Your first SxS may be $10,000 but if you like the sport, you may spend more the next time.... my 2 cents! Good video once again!
Yeah, some vehicles experience abuse to and are warrantied for 5 years and 60,000+ miles.... I agree SxS’s are beat up, but they’re designed for most of the abuse they get....
Yes kinda like they did in the last two years with jetskis. The entry priced spark by sea doo has had a sales explosion. And now yahmaha has their entry model ex too.
Jesse Stephenson exactly! You can get “entry level” watercraft and snowmobiles, but you can’t get a SxS for a decent price.... I know you can buy a SxS with a 570cc engine and it’s not overly priced but I’m talking budget. No 25” travel, no EPS, just something reliable to get families out on the trails!
I've been debating about buying for a few years now and due to the prices of new and their lack of real warranty we (wife included) to wait till the kiddos are older. We are also afraid to purchase used due to fears of excessive abuse. Maybe a jeep and nice slow trails is good enough.
This comment is geared more for certain people, you know who you are. I’ll spend what I want to spend it’s my money, I’m not asking you to pay for it so 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️. I love utvs quads and jeeps. But I choose to drive a sxs off-road instead of a Jeep. I like to go as fast as possible off-road.
All good points. Even a new dirt bike can cost you 10,000 nowadays. If your not into sxs’s then of course the cost sounds outrageous. I would never spend 30,000 on a Harley either, but then again I’m not really into them.
Its definitely a life style choice between jeep and sxs. We were on the trails in idaho, passed some jeeps going in. Made it a fire look out, then over to a lake, looped to a second lake, ate lunch, then went back out the way we came. Ran into the group of jeeps. They told us they hadnt even made it to the fire lookout turnout. That sold me even more. I loved my jeep, but my sxs is hands down better when it comes to offroading out the door.
I just did on the textron wildcat xx 2019. It's a beast in my opinion. And well worth it for me. I did the whole windshield awesome shocks on it riding. And bought a hard roof was not a fan of the floppy fabric one. And why did they change the seats I had 2013 1/2 and seats were great. All the way up to the 2019 model they are bad They thinned out are uncomfortable. Other than the seats can be changed. That's if you like riding. Durham town is where I've been riding trails and once in Talladega Alabama since March every other weekend. Best medicine.
I see what you mean although my "Jeep" wouldn't brake anything. Here is my experience. Had a Suzuki with portals(military) that I recently sold. $6500, what a steal. My friend has a Polaris General, bigger tires. The Suzuki had fantastic ground clearance. Like 20 inches under the axle(this is a solid axle so it never gets below this) and 30 under the transmission/frame. Extremely overbuilt drive line and had a bumper which allowed it to make its own way when needed. Just crushed things. More like a tank than a car. Moved a container easily by just driving into it and not letting off the gas. Not a scratch. 60 foot trees over the road 3 feet above the ground? It just went over. Was comfortable in winter and summer(AC) with little to no engine noise. His General doesn't even come close when it gets really rough. But the suspension and handling sucked! There was no way to drive that thing fast. Even at moderate speed you would get the seat belt cutting you in half or hit your head in the window. Power sliding was dangerous because of the risk of rolling. So it was only good at slow/crawl speeds. By comparison his General is so agile, fast and composed.
You can do hell's revenge in a crown Vic. That trail is easy enough for every mall crawling soccer mom jeep to do. But when you get into hardcore wheeling you need more than just a stock jeep or an overpriced sxs. And it doesn't have to be new either, you don't need Bluetooth and ac to go wheeling.
You're forgetting some states allow these to be made street legal. They're all over the place here in Arizona. Matter of fact, when you buy one at a dealer here, they register and tag it for you so it's street legal as soon as you drive it off the lot. So people own them "instead of" a Jeep since you "can" drive it into town to run errands and whatnot. In that scenario, they're practical vehicles. I drive mine down the highway at 70 mph no problem then straight into a trail. You can also add hard doors with electric windows, windshields with wipers, air conditioning, heaters, heated seats, etc. so they have all the creature comforts of a standard car or truck.
had a 2012 RZR 900XP, i ended up selling it after a year or so. I prefer riding a 4 wheeler. SXS do have a lot of performance and the suspension is truly incredible, but I like the ATVs because it requires more skill and body language to get it to do what you want. That and you basically need a car trailer to haul it around and a spare bay indoors to keep a SXS out of the weather
570s aren’t 8k anymore, straight from a manufacturer it’s 10.5k, with an easy 2-3k more for dealership costs, warranty, etc etc. you can buy a 900 for 15k at a dealer, it’s a lot more justifiable than spending 13k on a substantially underpowered machine
Stock TJ wrangler: around $10,000 Simple lift kit: around $550 Lunchbox locker: around $300 Go anywhere you want offroad, get yourself there legally onroad.
Shocks and HP do not cost the manufacturer or engineers that much more to figure out. It’s ridiculous. The people who made the off-road market viable can no longer afford to play in it properly.
That's like someone who grew up in a Ford Falcon complaining that they can't afford the new GT. For the money that would get you the original rzr 800 s you can still get an equivalent (but better) model. You just can't afford the biggest and best.
Hooty this is particularly true. If you look at any toy, atv, watercraft etc the base models of the 90s equivalence are 14k in Canada out the door. I bought a new Waveblaster 2 for 7600$ tax in. With trailer. Anything similar would cost 14k. My kodiak 400 or 450 would cost 12 after all is said. Salaries have not risen in proportion.
I want to buy a Maverick X3 Turbo and take it to Mexico. I stay in Mexico for a month every year and having a side by side over there makes sense. I can drive it on the streets of the city and the roads on my way to the ranch. there is also tons of trials that take me to amazing sites. However at 20k-30k taking one of those requires commitment. For now a Raptor 700r will do the job just fine
In the US, there are a growing number of states that allow you to drive your OHV on road. In South Dakota, where I live, I can drive my Yamaha Wolverine X4 anywhere but the interstate. It's my daily driver and I have put over 8500 miles on it in just under 2 years. No trailer or haul vehicle needed.
You’ll just go in circles trying to compare it to a Jeep/Taco/4Runner/LandRover/G-Wagon etc .... it’s a recreational vehicle, it’s category is shared by boats, wave runners etc. trailered to where you go to get away for time away to play. You’re not getting groceries or going to the hardware store, not picking friends from the airport or train station, not loading up friends & going to a concert, nobody is taking Grandma to her doctors appointment in one. $30k for it is no different than $40k for a 12 passenger jet boat with wake boarding tower & ballast bladders for wake surfing
Here in Casper, WY we can make them street legal and drive them on the streets just need horn and mirror and you can plate one and drive it all over town and people do.
289pinto .... however you get a hidden head, stern shower, better stereo & with Bimini/ Canvas set up can sleep 4+ on a boat. Will never forget my wife’s expression sipping coffee and watching deer swimming in the morning mist towards the islands on the Mississippi ( coffee makers that plug into cigarette lighters are a must )
I agree with you ppl seem to get lost in the fact that they're in fact "toys" they're just like tools you use them in the conditions you bought them for and you put them away. Yes some ppl can justify $30k for a toy some ppl buy older and have just as much fun without the fancy stuff. At the end of the day with a sxs you got stuck in the mud had some laughs got wenched out and had a great time. Happy riding.
Sorry Tim, but you are a bit wrong. there are many places where these are daily drivers and where I live in Lake Havasu city Arizona this is totally a vehicle you can drive every day. 100% street legal and one of the most common vehicles on the road. I've gone and got groceries many many times in mine.
This explanation while basic & incomplete is correct. As an aftermarket parts distributor once said to a friend of mine, “you bought an off road vehicle to ride in the woods & want it to ride like a Cadillac, what do you expect…” As these machines are being used, people find different uses for them, we & the manufacturers modify them & they respond to their market. These aren’t street legal or even legal to ride on trails in New York State, along with many other places. Also these machines aren't made for being street legal, you have to buy accessories to do that. When purchasing a UTV 5 years ago I bought a 2 person basic model with lights, roll cage & dump box for $12,000. The roof, windshield, rear window, doors, heater, radio with Bluetooth, GPS etc... are all considered extras! Yes I bought an off road machine & knew all this before purchasing, a roof, windshield & cab when it unexpectedly rains is nice & a heater is good when needed, winches are a must too. Automobiles were once as primitive & basic as UTVs were 10 or more years ago, now we have cars with A/C, radios, tire pressure sensors, USB ports, wifi capability, responsive cruise control & so many other “nice add-ons.” Self-driving autos are in testing --&’ll stay there for another few decades I bet. UTVs are as complicated & have computers controlling engine, 4 wheel drive & other functions… If we want these features on our “off road toys,” we’ll pay for it, 1 way or another. Soon we’ll no longer be able to do any maintenance ourselves, just like is happening with autos. Mechanics aren’t mechanics any longer, they’re “Automotive or Off Road VehicleTechnicians” who go to school & pass tests to properly work on these autos or UTVs. We are supporting the designers, dealer /owner, sales people, technicians, etc.. who bring us these machines, that’s why they’re $30,000.
I always thought the price of these machines was insane, not even close to worth it. Finaly bought a 2020 rzr xp1000 this spring. Its worth every single penny. I own an automotive repair shop and when i looked this machine over, i was blown away by how well built it was. As the guy said, these things are built to destroy any terrain. When we drive it we beat the hell out of it and im always thinkin somethins gotta break. No machine can take this kind of abuse. Every time im wrong, they are built like tanks and can take everything you can throw at em. Look around for a deal and sometimes youll luck out. Got ours bran new and delivered to our door for $16,500. MSRP was 18999$. Great video, you were spot on with everything!
I'm ok with spending 5g on a toy, this is crazy. If you have that kind of money congratulations I guess, but I suspect most just opt for the lengthy finance payments.
I have the cash for all my toys. Money is cheap though. I finance at 3.5% for my toys and keep the cash in the market. My stocks make me 5-10% in dividends. My mutual funds are reinvesting at 9-15%. Paying cash for stuff is not the best financial move when you can have it in investments netting much better returns than that cheap loan.
Your first argument about "not able to drive on the road" isn't true everywhere either. I have plates on mine and drive from tail to trail down the highway if I want to. All of my 'break in period' miles were on roads -- way easier than the beating it gets on the trail. I think it's ridiculous that people aren't allowed to drive these on the roads in other jurisdictions, they're way safer than a motorcycle. But I also live somewhere that farm machinery is frequently seen on those same highways and roads.
He did mention there are a few places you can drive a SxS on the road, but let’s be real. If there was ever a prime example of something that is an exception to the rule, it’s this. There are so few states where driving a SxS in the road is legal, it’s almost not worth mentioning.
My Odes Dominator 800 has plates and can be driven on road. Here in Texas you pay the road tax for every new vehicle regardless of what it is. If you don't want to pay the tax, you don't have to but you can't drive on the roads. Additionally it's just like cars and must be insured and pass inspection.
Found a can am X3 for 9k off sticker price my payment is like 240 a month and insurance is 400 a year. The thing is just like you said a trophy truck with stupid amounts of power for how small it is. 4 wheel boost launches make me happy, And where I live I can drive it down most roads except for highway and "M" roads I have zero complaints.
Loving this video. My mother loves this machine every weekend with her grandkids. We have the YXZ but gets lazy sometimes lol. Can’t wait to test ride the Honda Talon next year!
Lord only knows how much I would love to have my mother ride with us. She's coming around to it finally, bought some land to ride on so can no body tell us shit
Last year we got the 2020 1000 turbo s 4 seater and I love that thing, I’m able to hop on it and drift around in the streets and it is completely stock
If you want an off-road Jeep to beat on get a used junker with the lift already put on for under 3000-4000 dollars vs a brand new Polaris for 25,000-30,000 dollars
Matt's offroad recovery YT channel is a good demo of what these over-powered SxS's will do for you. Funny how he hardly ever has to recover a Honda, Yamaha or Kawasaki.
I recently bought a cub cadet challenger 750 eps with top, windshield, winch, doors, dump bed, mirrors, all from factory for $11,500. It’s a great machine. I ride with the 1000cc sxs and it goes everywhere they can go. It doesn’t have the speed they do but I’m not racing anyway.
I enjoyed this review regards to value for the dollar. Back in 2008 I found myself caught up in Polaris air cleaner debacle. Keep in mind I invested $1850 in a complete Elka suspension system. This setup seriously turned my 50 inch wide 800cc into a really great fun machine at the time. Keep in mind, I never played on sand dunes with it, only desert and UTV national park trails. After finally obtaining the Factory air filter ungraded recalled filter, I ran my machine 300 more miles, took it too Polaris dealership, watched them remove the filter, [New Factory recall replacement] still, dust getting sucked into my intake. I was seriously disappointed. My 5 year extended warranty was ending within days. As my rig was already there, I went ahead and had service do a 1100 mi. Complete service that ended up costing me almost $600 in 2012. Belt replacement, all fluids changed-that was it. That week. I sold it at a loss, a rather hefty one at that. As by then most UTV owners knew of the filter problems/recall. An after market company offered a filter upgrade, but it was $1200 plus installation. I was busy 4 to 18 hours a day with my business obligations. I ended up purchasing a 2012 MW-3 two door JK. While street legal and fun, versatile, 8 years later my PCM starts acting up, Jeep fails miserably, Jeep Fiat Corporation stopped making the needed part years ago. I was again disgusted with dishing out $43,000 plus tax, DMV and tire fees only to be screwed again with the brain-child of my entire jeep back-country reliability platform. I, at anytime while alone, could be dead with NO fixing it without having a spare computer onboard. Now a-days... I own nothing, I figure I will travel to Los Vegas and rent a new Razor for four hours, give it back, I’m done till next year. Same with Harley Davidson. Rent one for a day, turn it in. I’m done. People are commenting about the expense to ownership. Yes, I must agree. But for me to purchase a new single place Rzr would NOT be a wise purchase. My state of California plans to implement new state laws to fuel usage in the pursuit of Carbon emissions reductions. As long as I must remain here, I shall reduce my personal purchase ‘FootPrint’ to nothing other than a low crawl.... I plan to buy as little as possible to avoid the higher taxes and fees we endure now, as well as the new soon coming to a wallet near to you.
I couldn't justify 20+ for a SxS, and refuse to buy a used and abused one. Also wife only gave me the ok if i got 4 seats. So I went with the kawasaki teryx4. Sure its not close to a 1000 can am or polaris, but i love it, and its way better than a jeep. Plus 2019 LE model $13,700 out the door, base model would have been $12,500 OTD.
My 2 cents, bought a new XP1k in 2015 have over $30k in it with all the mods. Was a lot of fun the first year, by the end of year 2 it has become mainly a lawn ornament next to my shed. About all I use it for now is plowing snow in the winter and riding over to friends houses nearby. Most of the main trails are posted to where you can't get anywhere without trailering and as we've got busier we just haven't bothered. My $30k+ toy is now worth probably $15k if I'm lucky. If I had to do it again I'd have bought a used one half off instead of throwing money down the drain on a brand new one. At this point it is what it is but if I did it again I'd buy a jeep or a used side by side.
In Washington State it’s legal to drive on the road on a county by county basis. The more populated areas usually don’t allow it. Most counties with rural landscapes, a lot of Forest Service roads, or just small towns allow them.
@@JeremyLynnes, my kid has the 110 hp 1000 and with paddles, not a place at Dumont Dunes he can't go. Me and the wife each have a Maverick X3 WE don't quite trust Polaris.
yes the 1000 will get you anywhere but you cant come close to taking the bumps like you can on a turbo S. you will not effortlessly go anywhere in the dunes without a turbo that just lights up for face. you dont need a turbo machine but to say they are the same thing and do the same things is not true.
I wasn't trying to imply they are the same just merely saying that if you can live without the in my opinion not very significant differences you can have as much fun for less money. Lets not get down on the 1000 xp it heck these things come with for lack of a better term trophy truck suspensions so even though the xp has less ground clearance is still awesome offroad and you can go through some really rough stuff and have a very smooth ride.

I just bought a Can Am Sport X XC, and paid $24,000 after adding a few things. The enjoyment my wife and i get can't be compared to anything else. Yes these side by side are expensive, but the safety and comfort is worth every penny. I started with a Maverick Trail, and needed to move up after just 9 months. I'm hooked and I say its worth it. I went from 800 trail - 800s - 1000 4seat -turbo 4 seat. I got bored, sick of eating dust and getting hot and cold. I now have a lifted Suzuki Grand Vitara and have more fun. I expect plenty of haters for liking my $5000 SUV more than I liked my $27,000 turbo but it is how i feel.
you design those to be the week links so you dont tear the difs out of it.....people like you would really complain if you had to replace that. get a 32" tire free spinning in the air then get traction to it. do you have any clue how much force that is. yes it will blow the axle to save the dif.
Well stated and represented. I have no idea what their profit margin on these machines is, but as an engineer, my adage has always been "how much would it cost to build this myself?". Usually, when I think it through, I realize that not only would it cost a fortune, but the labor involved along with the cost of correcting mistakes along the way (and there are always mistakes) usually adds up to "better to go buy one than start from scratch".
Every year, they incrementally increase hp and or displacement to justify a larger cost. If I had to guess, I'd think 95% of consumers are financing these things and what's another 1000 bucks over 60 payments. Market is big enough to support these increases in price and competition, but I'd be surprised if it continues to increase in the next 10 years like it did in the last 10.
Arizona ATVs, sxs are legal on road. Just need: headlights, brake lights, rear view mirror, horn. Turn signals optional, can use hand signals, excluding certain fingers ;-)
Yes, that is what I like about living in Arizona. Lots of places to drive our RZR 900, mountains in Summer and desert in winter and able to drive it on the roads if needed or wanting to. We are having a blast with it!
@@username-mc7jw On top of regular registration costs, you get to pay a OHV fee in AZ every year. AZ just now added a $32 DPS fee per year per vehicle. Off road vehicles pay $5 DPS Fee. I think AZ takes the win on "fees"
Totally agree, a cheaper version would bring a lot of new riders and then it would create opportunities for more places to ride. I’d be in but I just can’t justify 30k for one of these.
I remember senior year 2009. Had just bought my 1969 baja bug and would see all the rich people with the new side by sides at the desert. Someone would always crash or roll one. Had a real fun time riding in my friends utv too.
buy a tracker and mod the F out of it and still have plenty of money left over. AND, you can drive it home and to work the next day and anywhere you feel like driving it.
I have a CAN-AM X3 XRS I paid 34k for and I say it's work every penny. If you think about it, they have to be insanely strong to be able to withstand the environment they were built to drive in.
I've got a 2018 1000 defender xmr... I like it because not only can u tow and haul with it u can also go play in the mud or take it trail riding ... It is alot of money but they are a very versatile machine. Each to their own though I guess
I’m from Russia, but Moab, Utah is the the greatest place to ride. They have insane trails there, and you can also ride up to northern Utah for snow and and rock climbing. Another good place to go is BC, Canada.
I have a friend who bought an 800 polaris brand new, the dealer loaded it on the trailer we drove back to his house, when he started it and put it in reverse the shifting linkages fell out of it, he had to call the dealer for them to send a technician out to repair it while it was still on the trailer brand new, he literally just sat in it started it and put it in reverse.
Everyone saying you can use them on the street is Wrong!!! Here in a AZ I can drive my side by side anywhere street or off-road. I bought my 2019 Can-am X3 and I have to say I love this thing. I can bet that my X3 can go anywhere and further than a Stock jeep. 30k I spent was well worth the money for me.
Me, to -- will have to stick with the 4-wheeler I got back in April: A 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. I guess I'll have to drive to the nearest bar and drown my sorrows in beer. Or two. ;-) -- VR
Last year, I bought a low mileage (2200 mi) RZR XP 4 with GPS and many other upgrades (inc EPS) with a total original cost of $30,000 in nearly perfect condition for $13k. I knew the 60 year old owner, so I know how it was driven.
In some places, like Leadville, CO atvs are these side-bys are street legal. But, my question would be, what would you have to do to make these legal everywhere ? Is it possible or are they outright in violation of too many rules to give it a go?
I just rented one last week and rode all over the Mojave Desert. They are a hell of a lot of fun to drive. I agree with a lot of the comments. A lot of money to have sitting in a garage. Considering I do other activities throughout the year renting 3 to 4 times a year makes more financial sense to me. No maintenance to worry about or payments..
David pelkey Well it all depends on if your talkin an high end side by side or a lower end model. A can am maverick x3 and a polaris rzr turbo s claim they can reach 85mph. Even a Honda Talon can get up in the 70’s. Just say your going 50 mph with something a little less expensive (Polaris rzr 570), it will probably be able to still go faster than a stock Jeep can in the trails for much less 💵.
I have a cf moto 800ex and my wife has a cf moto 500 trail. These machines perform very well for the money. And for just a few bucks they can perform even better. If your a budget guy check out the cf moto 800ex. Awesome machines and warranty is all around the best in the business.
I ditched my money pit '15 Wrangler Jk. I bought it new, went off-road and became hooked. Before I knew it I was 20k into mods and a monster off-road. I bought a RZR 1000 $20,000 a Dodge ram 5500 at $40,000 to pull a $14,000 32 ft enclosed gooseneck trailer put about $10,000 of aftermarket parts on the side by side keep about $4,000 worth of extra parts in the trailer $2,000 in tools and equipment to fix the side by side out on the road and probably another thousand dollars in miscellaneous items plus riding gear grand total of $90,000 for a hobby that I use probably 6-7 times a year so yes it is expensive and they do break often especially the way I drive it but it is the most fun you can have with your clothes on so if you can afford it I say go for it
I haven’t spent extra money on my Jeep and it goes everywhere! Just like Stan’s CJ2A, good drivers can get a jeep pretty much anywhere. I’ll pass on the side by side, rather get an atv.

As a former pricing analyst, I can tell you this: very simply, the reason they are so expensive is because people are willing to buy them at that price. I would bet that the margins they make on the way more expensive machines are greater than the older ones.

id104335409 They get more and more expensive because of the mentality of the general public. The “GOTTA PAY TO PLAY” mentality is driving up the prices on EVERYTHING.
I've always has a real suspicious that these are way over priced due to the willingness of people to buy them at the $20-30K mark.
Russ, You mean the people building these machines are trying to make a profit? Wow how dare they...

Well damn how often do you ride? With our xp 4 1000 we fill up every 1-2 days when riding
I’ve had my rzr like 5 years I don’t regret one moment I love it
I personally think the prices are a little excessive....
Consider the use they see, you're lucky they warrantee anything
I wouldn't spend $30,000 on any vehicle, let alone a toy. buy used and it's affordable. learn skills, like wrenching, and save yourself piles of $$.
5k+ is the most I would spend on a bike, and that's pushing it.
you know they sell motorcycles that are brand new for under 10k.
I just bought a Ranger XP 1000 Crew with Northstar & Ride Command packages. Very expensive but so far no regrets.
So basically it's an expensive toy. Got it.
Yeah that’s pretty much what they are making it for.
Brad Conklin The only reason they will do that is because of the competition plus they can come up with new technologies for the 2020 razor

But how much stuff can you put in a Polaris if you are going overlanding? It's about the adventure. Not the competition.
so then whatcha going to do?
@@eaglewarrior8707 exactly! Someone gets it!
Orrr you buy a $8k 570.. put about $1000 worth of mods on it and go wherever you want to go 🤷🏻♂️
570s aren’t 8k anymore, straight from a manufacturer it’s 10.5k, with an easy 2-3k more for dealership costs, warranty, etc etc. you can buy a 900 for 15k at a dealer, it’s a lot more justifiable than spending 13k on a substantially underpowered machine
Cinemastic I just give $8900 for a brand new 2019 ranger xp 900 about a month ago
Cinemastic you’re listing ranger 1000 xp prices dude. Must be from Canada.
Stock TJ wrangler: around $10,000
Simple lift kit: around $550
Lunchbox locker: around $300
Go anywhere you want offroad, get yourself there legally onroad.
@MrBury74 - Go ahead and build a side by side comparable to the Turbo S or Maverick XRS and let me know how much it costs you.
Jeremy Lynnes same thing. It’s just as ridiculous. If you think it costs them close to half to manufacture that is wrong.
I agree, the double cost is unwarranted and blatantly taking advantage of the customer
Except the equivalent wake boat now days is more like 100g in Canada
The answer is this video is produced by someone sponsored by companies that sell these so of course it's worth it.
Do the math
I have a Jeep and a Rzr, I sold my jeep after buying a Rzr there so much fun and can go anywhere. Jeeps are boring after riding a rzr!!!
90 percent of people dont have 500 cash on hand...these fools dont own shit
Thats why I love Minnesota passed two cops yesterday on my ride and they just wave
I live in OH, and my SxS is specifically registered by the State as "off road only." :(
He did mention there are a few places you can drive a SxS on the road, but let’s be real. If there was ever a prime example of something that is an exception to the rule, it’s this. There are so few states where driving a SxS in the road is legal, it’s almost not worth mentioning.
In uk you can drive on road and that’s a tiny island with 60M+ people and tiny roads. Crazy that you can’t in Canada
Gotta watch those M roads. Especially in the lower around St Helen.
My opinion is that if they allow skooters to be on the road then side by sides should also. A side by side has seat belts and a roll cage.
side by sides are allowed on the roads in AZ =]
Think about the depreciation value of this machine with such significant performance increases every year.
they hold their value pretty well
@@idg1216ig really do they? What do you think about an electric one ?
My lawn mowers cost around 15k each and go about 13 mph and make money for me and I'm always off road
Buy a isuzu trooper put a 350 in it and as much suspension travel as you want. Maybe be in 8000
If you can live without the "Turbo" stickers the rzr xp 1000 Is just as fun with 110hp and will go all the same places for 18k.
Great point - all but perhaps the dunes.
@@JeremyLynnes, my kid has the 110 hp 1000 and with paddles, not a place at Dumont Dunes he can't go. Me and the wife each have a Maverick X3
WE don't quite trust Polaris.
yes the 1000 will get you anywhere but you cant come close to taking the bumps like you can on a turbo S. you will not effortlessly go anywhere in the dunes without a turbo that just lights up for face. you dont need a turbo machine but to say they are the same thing and do the same things is not true.
My bare bones 2018 black pearl 1000xp was $16k OTD 😎😎
i agree with you i thought it was s tone of money, what a waist. then i bought one, drove it for the weekend and was sold, take my money i would of paid more they are awsome, what a piece of machinery
Or just get a truck for half the price and roll your windows down. Same thing.
Michael
Really bothers me when people call going out in there sxs as "riding"
And the one thing that stayed the same. The junk diffs and axles.
you design those to be the week links so you dont tear the difs out of it.....people like you would really complain if you had to replace that. get a 32" tire free spinning in the air then get traction to it. do you have any clue how much force that is. yes it will blow the axle to save the dif.
I spent 27k on a can am. Worth every penny!!!
Yep I did the same the 2020 X3 turbo RR 🤤🤤🤤
I bought a 2018 Polaris High Lifter 4 seat and It is great. Can bring family and friends along and enjoy the great out doors.
You can get a perfectly capable SxS for less than 10 grand.
I live in Lake Havasu city and these are one of the most common vehicles you see every single day. This is definitely a daily driver here.
PowerPC my razor doesn’t have a horn and it’s titled as street legal just needs a plate
Utah too... same requirements. You 'get' to pay a registration fee here. Not sure about $ in AZ.
I can't justify anything over 15k
A new 570 is around the 10k price new
I remember senior year 2009. Had just bought my 1969 baja bug and would see all the rich people with the new side by sides at the desert. Someone would always crash or roll one. Had a real fun time riding in my friends utv too.
The RZR turbo s is definitely worth it. Just picked up a 2021 and haven’t been left wanting anything more than more time to drive it
You could buy 8 beater trucks for that price
Which one of those 8 will be as capable?
nick the car guy you mean a garbage can with a ragity v6. They will all run like crap.
buy a tracker and mod the F out of it and still have plenty of money left over. AND, you can drive it home and to work the next day and anywhere you feel like driving it.
@@frankyalvarez7160 and how is it that you know all trucks that are sub $2,500 run shitty?
I'd rather have fun in a beater truck than have fun in a Japanese atv that I'm losing thousands of dollars on.
Side by sides are street legal here in Arizona. I always see them on the road.
Just buy a dual sport or adventure motorcycle. They go wherever you want to go and the dual sport community is a great group of people.
They go no where in Wisconsin we have like 2 trails for motorcycles
I have a CAN-AM X3 XRS I paid 34k for and I say it's work every penny. If you think about it, they have to be insanely strong to be able to withstand the environment they were built to drive in.
I've got a 2018 1000 defender xmr... I like it because not only can u tow and haul with it u can also go play in the mud or take it trail riding ... It is alot of money but they are a very versatile machine. Each to their own though I guess
Can Am is better.
Street legal in Arizona! Thanks, Freedom.
Rogue Yamaha what model do you have?
See them all the time
Can am Maverick x3 turbo max!! Yeah!!! Arizona!! 602!
I would like to move there from Australia
I’m from Russia, but Moab, Utah is the the greatest place to ride. They have insane trails there, and you can also ride up to northern Utah for snow and and rock climbing. Another good place to go is BC, Canada.
30k to buy. 30k to fix and they break easy 😂😂😂

A utv will crush a jeep as far as true offroad capability. No doubts there.
I don't agree with the Trophy truck and side by side comparison. One can do 120+ over rough terrain and one just simply can't.
Would love to have one of these but I’m sure ant spending that money I’ll stick with a 4 wheeler
I agree I will stick with my banshee much cheaper lol
Me, to -- will have to stick with the 4-wheeler I got back in April: A 2021 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon. I guess I'll have to drive to the nearest bar and drown my sorrows in beer. Or two. ;-)

Trade the sxs in and see if you like the value you get
Trade anything in and you're not going to like the value you get. If you're trading into a dealer you're already an idiot....
Jeremy Lynnes true man. That’s why I bought my used 4runner and it books for more than I bought it for... after I put another 12,000 miles on it.
You could probably get a basic RZR 900 at the right time of year, no power steering, for somewhere around 10-11,000 USD
And it will still probably outperform a jeep
Scottstoyz he’s absolutely right when he talks about the value. They really are like mini trophy trucks.
Last year, I bought a low mileage (2200 mi) RZR XP 4 with GPS and many other upgrades (inc EPS) with a total original cost of $30,000 in nearly perfect condition for $13k. I knew the 60 year old owner, so I know how it was driven.
Gage 2k5 that’s awesome! Quite the find.
You can make it street legal down here in good old Texas
I like jeeps, but I do know that no Jeep is gonna be flying through the middle of the woods going 80+ mph
Definitely not but a long travel Tacoma all day long
Nics574 Yeah for sure with the right suspension set up.
Nics574 neither will a stock sxs lol
David pelkey Well it all depends on if your talkin an high end side by side or a lower end model. A can am maverick x3 and a polaris rzr turbo s claim they can reach 85mph. Even a Honda Talon can get up in the 70’s. Just say your going 50 mph with something a little less expensive (Polaris rzr 570), it will probably be able to still go faster than a stock Jeep can in the trails for much less 💵.
EzY VEWz just bc they got a top speed doesn’t mean ur gonna be able to reach it on trails which most likely ur not bc it’s trails not a straight line
