I admit im a new to motorcycle mechanics. recently graduated from wyotech in Daytona. im the first to admit I don't know much about bikes but, ive never seen spun mains with clean rod bearings. thanks for posting the video. I would like to see more. thank God my 954 is still kicking with 56k miles on her clock. and it starts up every time since I got her in 05. I love this bike. I find myself riding it more then my s1000rr.
Keep up the good work. I know this is an old video now, but the 954 was notoriously bad for scoring on the cylinder walls right beside the piston skirts (front and back of cylinder). Strange thing is, the rings still keep a seal against it, even when it is bad enough where you can feel the scoring with your fingertip. Don't think there is a 954 out there without scoring.....unless it has 0 miles and never been started! ;)
Hey man I know it's an old video but. The 954rr have major issue on pistions slap. The cure for it is to put 2004-2007 cbr1000RR pistions. The 1000rr has bigger piston skirts. The cbr954rr has smaller skirts. I just finished rebuilt my cbr954rr. Again them 954rr pistions are crap.
MattyBoy am equally eager to read his response. Am currently rebuilding a 954 engine at the moment. All am having to change is the main bearing and I have another one that needs metals and main bearing. Would give a full detail after the rebuild and let u know. Thanks a lot for this video.
hello since u know 954r engines. does the driveshaft of the transmission have 1 or 2 half rings? this half ring is used to align transmission so is it only 1 half ring or 2 half rings
hello its me! I ended up purchasing another engine. I wish I would have no because I rebuilt a engine about 2 months ago. Rebuilding is easy. It's a lot of measuring. You will need a torque wrench and the torque specs. Gaskets and a notepad and pen. Take notes. As long as you have manual you should have no issue in the rebuild. The can bearing colors are all on the engine and specs. I ended up replacing a piston, some rings, and a bearings. It was explained that it's easier replacing an entire piston then replacing just the bearings if there are issues with the piston i rebuilt a 03 gsxr 750 engine. I have 2 954d and I am going to rebuild one engine this summer or winter.
A Robinson i live in lebanon mechanics dont use torque wrenches and numbers so am anxious that it might fail they only get use parts and swap them in. and a simple question if the cylinder wall is rubbed should i bore it slightly to smoothen it out?
hello its me! Nope... that's normal of honda. It's because it the quality of aluminum they used. I wondered about the same thing and it tool some time to find about the scaring. Go to harbor freight and get a torque wrench. If you don't prepare your bike with the right tools then expect to fail. I'm in Indy. I normally don't use torque specs but with my 1st rebuild it makes everything more comfortable. Ohhh. Get some plastic kitchen wrap. The stuff you wrap leftovers and food up with. When you remove large parts such as the head. Clean t and wrap it son you can store it away and not have to reclean. Works wonders and saves alot of hours. Used parts are OK to use.l, but you will need a head gasket

All Japanese 4 cylinder is almost same engines tuned more or less work on them is same thing

how was the rebuild?? did it succeed? i spun a rod bearing and am still worried about the rebuild.
