Hi Jase, I was going to purchase a HEMA HX2 until I found out it won't integrate with IMAC so I can't pre plan my trips. I went out and bought HEMA paper maps, so I work off them. You really got to be aware of the short comings of some of this tech gear as to avoid an expensive mishap. Pity it didn't work out the way you wanted, would have been magic if it did. A company called ‘Kimberley to cape’ do a bracket for the 70’s that mount a hema in lieu of the rear vision mirror. I’ve swapped mine out as I run solar screens and have no rear vision when towing anyway.
Thanks so much for that suggestion. I happened to stumble across them but if I hadn't this would have been gold!!!! Looking forward to getting that installed, bit tricky with my roof console but it'll work.
Mostly to have rear doors for the kids. Also wasn't sure about ramp over on some rock steps with the troopy, however as it's my daily and we've 2 kids, access for them to the rear seats was really the main reason. Troopys I think offer unrivalled flexibility for building out and if you want a vehicle you can create an internal living space in they're awesome.
Head unit looks good. Shame it didn’t work. I run Oziexplorer which has a lot of hema maps plus heaps of other maps, all on a separate sumsung tablet. Still need to sort out mounting it though.
What a rort mate. Personally I will stick with Gaia GPS. I haven't used Hema but Gaia does everything I could want & more plus it works with Android Auto so I have maps and full Android functionality.
Yeah few people I know run Gaia on a tablet. Was hoping to do away with a second screen but I've go ta solution now for mounting the HX2 - just wish there was someone who'd buy the plug in module off me...
@@OffTheBeatenPathAus Hope you can at least get some coin back for the plug in mate. I didn't know you run Gaia, After the crap fight I had with the VMS 700HDX and the amount I spent on it, Gaia will be my go to.
Hi Jason. I have a amdhx3 and can switch between the 2 on a kenwood head unit. Have you read the manual? Could be a limitation of the head unit you have.
Hey Bruno thanks that is interesting to hear. I persisted with it for several hours and it just didn't work as expected. I don't think it should be a limitation of the head unit as I bought the aerpro head unit, specifically to get this functionality. I agree you could switch, but it wasn't seemless and for my experience I had to basically close out of the AMHDX3 to go back to the normal android on the head unit. Additionally, because the phone was paired with the AMHDX3, I couldn't use Google maps on my head unit anymore to navigate and my phone hands free didn't work properly.... Was a pretty bad experience TBH and I've got an $800 piece of hardware I can't even sell for $400......
Send the seller a Letter asking for a refund as goods are not fit for purpose. If they don't agree, ask your credit card provider to do a chargeback using the letter as evidence.
Guess I could try that....... figure they'll argue it does what it's advertised to do. Even if it doesn't work the way I expected. Not a bad suggestion though.
Until the Tech is truly sorted to be compatible with established in-car units ............... its paper maps STILL for me when Google Maps is unavailable.

yeah comments can be a bit hit and miss, sometimes I get notifications people have commented but I can't find them to reply..... Thanks for persisting!
Yeah it was odd.... Cable the device to the head unit but then you need to pair your phone to the device rather than your head unit. Which meant stuff like hands free calls and google navigation just didn't work properly.
Seems a bad implementation of software and hardware which really shouldn’t happen in 2024. That said lm disappointed in most CarPlay navigation apps such as Gaia and even Nearmaps, while both work well directly on phone/pad the CarPlay interface is , let’s say not nice and don’t track off the screen. I keep going back to using the iPad directly on a ram mount bracket.

Seemed like a bad software implementation to me and yes I expected more. It's not as seamless as the marketing would have you believe... Also crazy that the AMHDX3 unit is same price or more than the HEMA HX2..... which comes with a screen etc... Live and learn
I run new tracks on my head unit. Works pretty well and integrates as an app that you can switch between
Looked at new tracs a bit, find it good for specific track info but I like all the extra landmarks on the hema maps for navigating.

Yeah, sticking with the HX2. Lots run tablets with OZIExplorer or Memory Map, which I use for trip planning. I've got a plan to better mount the HX2.

Strange you connect it with a cable but you have to unpair your phone🤔
