This video could so easily have been so much better. Create a like-for-like comparison of two people who actually know where they are going, compare the times and compare the costs. That would have been useful and interesting. Instead you've just offered lame monkeypox jokes and tired cliches about public transportation.
yeah i thought this too. all this was.. was a race to see who got lost the least amount of times. pick a start point and a destination you both actually know and do this fairly. absolutely pointless.
Agree 100%. I have the choice of commuting on my Himalayan or taking the tube. I know the tube is slightly faster on average, though it costs more. Start from a home, finish at a place of work, knowing what the route is. This was totally rubbish and I learned nothing.
man who prefers motorcycles gets lost and chooses to take the bike anyway in shocker to no-one. there was no commentary on costs, theft and accident rates in cities, issues or benefits of public transport etc. Who was this video supposed to be for?
I commute daily into Central London from South London (about 13 miles) on my F750 GS. At peak times, public transport is about 10-15 mins faster, but the bike is never late, and with the panniers fully loaded all my lab equipment can happily be moved around :) Dedicated bike street parking is free with ground anchors in borough of Camden (varies by borough throughout London) and no ULEZ / Congestion Charge applies to newer bikes so the only costs are the fuel / insurance / bike costs. If I go in early (leave around 6:30), the bike is 20 mins quicker than the public transport journey. Only downside is you can't go for after work drinks if you've come in on the bike!!
My other half goes into London - costs £38/day. Return trip on say, an NC750 around £9 at todays mad fuel prices. Even after 3 years, the bike would have a resale value, whereas a train ticket is worthless after use.
LOL, 30th of June and he says: it's so cold😂 To be honest: this is a very bad example. You could at least, like normal people do, know where you are going.
Agree with all the comments - unload the video. Do it again with GPS. You may as well provide a useful update. Bit of a mis step here from usually good content from MCN
There's great feeling of freedom living in London and not owning a vehicle (other a bicycle). You never worry about scumbags following you to see where it's parked at night.
This totally depends on how many changes you need to make in public transport. If you are lucky enough to go wherever you want to go with no change or very few changes public transport will be faster. If you need to make 3-4 changes however bike will be faster.
This could have been so much better. No times of what either party took to complete the journey. No actual comparison for the audience to take away from it. Seemingly no idea of the commute route. Very little explanation of the scooter or the journey by public transport. Felt a rushed, vague, poorly edited and planned video that was just a box ticker for number of videos needed in a month. MCN is usually very good content but this wasn't at all.
Bit stupid doing a commute, when you've never done it before, lol...Can understand though, a scooter is always going to be better than by public transport 🙂
I enjoyed the video, disregard the haters. You mentioned the 125cc is just about up to the job. I imagine the newer 160cc would be perfect. What do you think. I am considering that option. I am from Earlsfield, London, but now live in Florida. Thanks. ..
I'd much rather do this daily trip on my 390 Duke. I also have a scooter, an Aerox 155, so I'm not anti-scooter. As for doing 70 mph on one, I wouldn't fancy it.
What's the point of a "race", when you have no idea where you're going, or how to get there? It has zero to do with the mode of transportation and everything to do with having some sort of clue. A fair comparison would be, we're both leaving from point A at the same time, we're going to a point B, which we know where it is and how we're supposed to get there. It's a commute to work, for heaven's sake, not Amazing race. If you get lost 5 times and going the wrong way, it's not the scooter's fault...
You lost because you got lost and you took a massive de tour through harringay! Did tfl get on your back about showing them up because you were seen speeding through 20mph areas? And riding on the pavement ??
Oh my days! Redo this video with some real bikers not an office-working car driver from MCN. I can't believe MCN would allow this video to be posted! Totally unprofessional! The rider actually sounds scared because his breathing is elevated and He clearly doesn't know how to filter. This video represents motorcycling even worse than Henry Cole! Please, please, please STOP representing yourselves as ambassadors to motorcycling because you clearly don't have a clue!
Ok, I am 1 minute in and this is already a lame video! Why did you not plan a route to your destination and use a Bluetooth headset for directions? I'll bet the ending is neither is quicker because you bodged up!
Sadly this looks like the beginning of the slippery slope, all you need now is 2 other middle aged blokes in jeans to all take the piss out of each other, and maybe drop a caravan from a crane onto a moped, wouldn't that be entertaining ! And no longer a show about motorcycles. Thumb very down.
What's the point of using someone who doesn't know where he's going?
Good point
It’s called filling up the space between the ads (advertising) … money makes the world go round.
I usually like MCN content, but if you're going to do a commute comparison surely you should pick a route that you actually know?
Verdict = Pointless
The point being "Let's feature a Honda product." perhaps. Couldn't watch more than half of it.
The thing about commuting is most people know how to get to where they work. You know, since they do it every day.

agree 100%.... useless comparison, may have been even if the bus driver was lost 3 or 4 times too
yeah i thought this too. all this was.. was a race to see who got lost the least amount of times. pick a start point and a destination you both actually know and do this fairly. absolutely pointless.

Next "Secret of an MCN roadtester". How to use gps...

Maybe attach sat-nav to your handlebars?
I'm surprised a quality publication like MCN uploaded this cringeworthy video.

For £20 you can buy a mount for your phone and a helmet with Bluetooth connectivity will help direct. Preparation is the key for any journey.

If you don’t know where your going and keep stopping because the sat nav keeps going wrong no point public transport will win
Waste of an opportunity. No idea where you are going is not a normal commute.
Sorry to say, great idea for a vid but awful execution. Drab watching. Try again with people who know where they are going.
There's great feeling of freedom living in London and not owning a vehicle (other a bicycle). You never worry about scumbags following you to see where it's parked at night.
I have held a driving licence for 40 years if I ride a 125 can I take a passenger ? After cbt
Well that was pointless
maybe sort out navigation then scooter was a winner lol.
Production is poor.
I’m glad they send the James May equivalent from mcn
This totally depends on how many changes you need to make in public transport. If you are lucky enough to go wherever you want to go with no change or very few changes public transport will be faster. If you need to make 3-4 changes however bike will be faster.
Got bored fell asleep 😴
All you did there was show how bad the Beeline Sat Nav is or how inept the rider was at setup! Very poor video MCN!
He has no idea where he's going, if he used Google maps or knew where he was going it would probably be a different story!
you are complaining about your height affecting the ride position. How tall are you? I'm 5 '11" and considering this bike
This ride should have been done by a professional scooter delivery driver … or completed in Bangkok

Fail to prepare then prepare to fail, what a numpty, so smart he doesn't even know where he can ride or where he is going.
A bit lame. Anyone commuting would, I hope know how to get to work before they left home in the morning...?
7:50 can you not adjust the Öhlins to deal with the bumps? 🙊
8:33 what on earth is the benefit of a 3wheeler in a city?
Lol not a very realistic race when you don't know where your going.

Great stuff boys 🤘 more videos of Ben commuting through London BvG style please.
Gents! Bit of a cluster this one wouldn't you say? Not up to the usual MCN standards...file under 'must try harder'
What a waste of time...
I'd much rather do this daily trip on my 390 Duke. I also have a scooter, an Aerox 155, so I'm not anti-scooter. As for doing 70 mph on one, I wouldn't fancy it.
Great idea poorly exacuted
I thought about buying a Japanese bike for the reliability, thought it should be sensible and comfortable, so I bought a Ninja 636 😂
I love an MCN video but this one was not worth my time watching it, it’s next to useless.
U took the long wrong way
Good idea, poorly executed. More a reflection of your inability to get yourself organized than a comparison of public transport vs a scooter...

Sorry Chaps v poor video.
You lost because you got lost and you took a massive de tour through harringay! Did tfl get on your back about showing them up because you were seen speeding through 20mph areas? And riding on the pavement ??
this is literally meaningless. You picked two MUPPETS who don't know where they're going. You might as well have put trackers on cats.
ULEZ.

Corporate Crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stupiest clip ever from MCN
