  • Had an amazing tour with Charlie and Kirk out in Colorado. This was our last set in Denver. Some really great musical moments on this. Cymbals are Agop 15" turk hats, 20" Sig ride & 22" 30th anniversary. Using my 5.5" Signature BALANCE walnut snare.

    The only other person that I've been able to watch as intently on drums would be Benny Greb, man you got something here.

    That first tune stirs up some feelings I didn't know I had.... I was perpetually making some kind of face as if something stank

    Cymbal screech @ 2:13 was brilliant! It kicked off the trumpet solo perfectly and in key. Never saw that used musically. It's usually just a solo gimmick.

    Thank you for posting these full length videos. I feel like there is a lot to learn by just "sitting next to you" on these small gigs and watching you work.

    I am a drummer in Keizer and from my experience their times to have a bass drum open sound and then their are those times where you want to put a little muffling in the bass and these are one of those times in my opinion the bass is a little to much but wow very groovy playing thank you for inspiring us it is an honor to watch you guys any day any time

    Carter : Saw a vid of you losing 3 tension screws together one side of the snare, WOW..
    Old school trick I learned man years ago, using good hardwood drum shells :
    coat the edge of the drum shell with bees wax before installing the drum skin,
    It acts as a lubricant and seal the edge grain from cracks over the years.
    Carter your a great in the pocket drummer and very particular about your sound quality.

    Colorado....long way from home! Right next to why home state. Great music and playing, Carter! Just wondering what your thought process is when you go with various cymbal ensembles for specific gigs....i.e. why 20" Sig ride in lieu of say 20" 30th Anniversary on the left side (lighter weight = better crash-ability?)....and why turk hats vs. say 15" 30th Anniversary, especially when paired with the 22" 30th. Is it predicated on the room or the music you are playing (or both) or have you just grown to like the sig ride and turk hats more than the 30th equivalents? Also, would you change cymbals mid-gig? Sorry for all the questions.....just curious.

    I'm assuming the 30th anniversary main ride but is it 20 or 22? And 15 30th hats? Signature left side? I'm gonna say my 22 30th is the my favorite of the 30th line, and equal to some those great Turkish Ks of the past. The 30ths get better as they age

    • @cartermclean
      @cartermclean  7 років тому

      Carter McLean The description wasn't loading,and having trouble with loading comments. I was able to "hard Start' my I pad and everything works. I'm playing the same and have been for months. (But using 15 30th hats) . This video is useful for teaching students about dynamics, technique, and snare drum tuning
      Thanks again
      Edit
      Any more of your snare drums available, and if so could one find its way to Memphis Drum Shop? I'd pay in advance for it for sure..
