Yeah it probably should've made the list. It has immediate relevancy against Temur Worldsoul's Rage. This will counter the Worldsoul's Rage, then it gets plotted and free cast for X=0 which does nothing.
yea, Dev's lists are generally much more jank and timmy cards...so i rarely view them as objectively correct......but an Aven Interrupter omission is wild. It's arguably the best white rare....yet he has almost every other white rare on this list.
dev you're my favorite mtg content creator i never watch. its sad to say but honestly its because i can't put you on during work on in the car because YOU NEVER READ THE CARDS OUTLOUD. i cannot keep staring at my tiny phone and pausing to try and read EACH CARD. PLEASE
The only thing that might stop Vaultborn Tyrant from seeing play is the presence of Atraxa and Etali. They're the 7-mana payoffs that ramp decks are working towards, even pushing out Titan of Industry. And because we have *SO MANY* playable ways to reanimate, those cards even get jammed into decks outside of their colors. But Vaultborn Tyrant is excellent value for 7 mana. And if you _did_ commit to it in a UGx ramp deck, it curves nicely into a Dopplegang for X=2. That's going to get you 6 Tyrant triggers, netting 6 cards and 18 life, on top of adding a pair of 6/6 tramplers and a couple of other permanents to the board. Could also be good in BG with Greed's Gambit. Throw in some Worshop Warchief as well. Both of these creatures will gain life and/or draw cards up front. Then once you've exhausted the bats and have to sack one of them, they replace themselves.
Just a note on Another Round, you get 1 blink at 3 mana, 2 blinks for 5 mana, so on and so forth so I belive 3 mana for 1 blink is pretty hecking good, that’s all Love your work and opinions, keep it up
Hey Dev, I love your content man. I always look forward to what you have to say about a game I have been playing for years. The jokes and the vibe is chill and I learn a thing or two every now and then. My son loves your cats. Igbee ( hope I spelled it right) is hilarious. Keep up the great work and we will keep watching!!
Awesome video! Really enjoying the content lately my dood! :D I went to my first sealed event at my LGS and got two slickshot showoffs, one three steps ahead, one smuggler's surprise, and the orig reprinted oko in the 6 boosters in my prerelease box!!! Shoulda took first but took second because I lost oko to a self inflicted mill :.(
19:08 So, when I look at Gitrog and Honest Rutstein I see cards that are trying to make Golgari Fight Rigging more playable, if not on purpose, then incidentally. Gitrog with Shakedown Heavy (with or without a Fight Rigging in play) for example, is an excellent line; it would draw 6 cards by default and 7 if it has been buffed by Fight Rigging and it only cost you 3 mana. Gitrog also has 6 power, meaning it can activate Fight Rigging in a pinch. Also, Gitrog is a great card to hit with Fight Rigging. It just really fits into that deck well. Honest Rustein is a really good way to return key creatures for the Fight Rigging combo to your hand and it also has a pseudo-mana-dork ability, meaning it can kind of do an Undead Butler/Reclusive Taxidermist stand-in at the same time.
So Railway Brawler and Another Round go together pretty well. Today's prerelease I had them both, opponent thought they were safe because I played Bruiser late in the game then after combat flickered them to bulk them up.
I agree with your #1. UW control is already one of the best decks in standard , and as you pointed out they play some number of counterspells besides No More Lies. They also frequently play Deduce and or Quick Study for extra card advantage. Three Steps Ahead immediately replaces all of those cards. You're effectively upping the number of counterspells and card draw effects in your deck by playing a card that can do both. And though not at its best, even a control deck will get some use out of the "copy artifact or creature you control" mode. But it doesn't have to just go into control. Basically if your deck has any interest in counterspells, cloning, or card draw, Three Steps Ahead provides triple the value.
Insidious roots puts counters on all plants, maybe a synergy with some of these green Plant creatures. Especially the one that doubles counters since your tokens can tap for mana
So I think the thing you might be missing on tinybones joins up is that its a lot more like a kumano faces kakazan if your aggro deck is full of legends than a hopeless nightmare. Now, it's definitely got pluses and minuses compared to kumano, and if a Bx legends aggro deck doesn't shape up it won't really have that kind of home. But it's the sort of card that with a home, it will be very very good, with the etb discard making it function sorta like a cantrip rather than anything else. A cantrip that gives all your creatures etb ping 1 damage? That sounds great! And RB already has a ton of pushed, playable, aggro legendaries, not to mention the ones in Outlaws. There's maybe even a world where an aggro raffine deck could play it. Both strategies also have stuff like raffine or inti to mitigate the downside of a legendary permanent, too. So... we'll still have to see, but I do think it's a lot more than a hopeless nightmare in terms of application.
Hollow Marauder looks pretty good for commander, and potentially eternal formats too since they can fill their graveyard fast. This can cost only one mana and make everyone discard a good card because if they don’t, you draw cards. And it’s a good flier like it was enough already. It’s like an almost strictly better Syphon Mind
You are talking about Monastery Swiftspear rotating, so it's worth mentioning that we have until August 2025 when new Lorwyn drops, which is practically an eternity for Standard.
@@whiteboysushi you're right, but it isn't once a turn, so any time you create a token you ping em, multiple way to generate, multiple pings. And if you're creating tokens you may as well try to get mondrak in on the fun.
No fucking way this dude has a god damned hajime no ippo shirt??? As if he could be a cooler guy he puts that shit on and bumps up like 3 spots. Absolutly goated series thank you for being its billboard you absolute dream boat!
Celestus > Ramp into Terror of the Peaks, pitch Vaultborn Tyrant > (Push//)Pull > sac trigger, another Tyrant (Your opponent dies by now if they can't answer enough of it, and if they do you have replacement cards and a life cushion. Achilles Heel: Sunfall as usual) Side note: where is some MtG fanart of the total solar eclipse altered onto a Sunfall? may I see it?
You are definitely Three Steps Ahead. This card is so so so busted. Yeah that's a cool card. Ill counter it.... And draw two ... And discard this reanumation target ... And copy my bomb.
Lavaspur Boots will go in more decks than any of these cards. Maybe not flashy, but a very efficient way to give a commander haste and a little protection
Dev i gotta correct you about Another Round because I think you've made the same mistake twice now. Its XX2W and X is every *additional* blink/how many times you repeat the process. You said 7 mana for 2 blinks and in another video called it 5 mana eerie interlude. 7 mana is 3 blinks.
Dev villain arc incoming! Edit: Esoteric Duplicator. Technically, Scene of the Crime is an artifact land you can sacrifice... Wonder if there'll be some shenanigans with that... Edit 2: Wait... People are saying Dinal Showdown isnt a standard card? Sure, an instant speed sweeper isn't standard playable... 🤣
I think you are sleeping on tiny ones joins up, it enables crimes for free as long as you're playing legends, which there are million great legends to play. It's the perfect crime enabler in standard.
Captain Storm only pumps one of your guys on an artifact ETB, not the whole crew. I love ya, Dev, and I really like your lists and whatnot, but I wish sometimes that you got your ducks in a row in terms of card interactions.
I'm blown away by the dislike for this set. It's good imo. Has tons of wild, fun interactions, new things, and it's a new plane. We just listened to everyone cry about going to Ravnica too many times lately and now we have new and people complain. The hate for loot is silly af also. Magic isn't just for one person. Sorry, cute fun characters scare you. Magic has to grown and get new people interested, or it'll die. Sorry if that's annoying, but it's a business first, welcome to America.
Why does magic need to grow or else it will die? MTG was making a lot of profit previously, by making it implode on itself like cancerous tissue is actually risking to kill it. This is what capitalism does and yes America and hence all western culture suffers incredibly under this plague, it is still wrong. They might find enough people like you that are willing to follow every kind of nonsense to postpone their demise, it is still wrong. I also think it will just continue to downspiral in complete nonsense with no actual consequences it is still wrong...
That moment when you realize you're an idiot. I have seen Obeka a couple of times and wondered what the point of it is since "the upkeep is basically a dead phase"... yeah... thinks the guy who plays virtue and dracosaur and... le sigh. Ok, facepalming into a headdesk here.
“I got a hammer it home” how can a card be both overrated & simultaneously in your top 10 🤔 bit of a conundrum friend, feels more like it’s properly rated
Maybe you should. If you watch Dev then you should be ready for his hot takes. Also he’s typically talking standard. Goldvein definitely has places in edh.
No Aven Interrupter love? I think that card is gas.
Great to counter a true counterspell
That's a strong contender to be a staple in my humble opinion
Came here to say this
Yeah it probably should've made the list. It has immediate relevancy against Temur Worldsoul's Rage. This will counter the Worldsoul's Rage, then it gets plotted and free cast for X=0 which does nothing.

I have a super jank Urabrask deck and have a penchant for spell slinging decks. I got unreasonably excited about slickshot.

The only top something list i look out everytime there is a new set! Love the content buddy!

I'm not sure insidious roots is good enough outside of the insidious roots deck; lacks consistency.
Fantastic list Dev, really excited about a ton of cards this season! Thanks for all the great content❤️
I agree with Three Steps Ahead. I also thought it will be an automatic replacement for Dissipate.
First time watching your content, and I have to say this is top tier!
So I think the thing you might be missing on tinybones joins up is that its a lot more like a kumano faces kakazan if your aggro deck is full of legends than a hopeless nightmare. 11:04 I think it’s awesome that Railway Brawler has a magic horseshoe flail.

Here in less than 15 minutes, new record. Amazing video as always Dev hope your life is full of joy and interest
Shoutout to the shirt. Hajime no Ippo kicks ass
0:39 “and we’re back pilgrim, like the video, sub to the sandwich and check out the pahhhtreon” this might be my favorite sentence I’ve ever heard 😂❤
Hajime no Ippo T-shirt proving once again that Dev has discerning taste and is a cool dude.
27:35 I had this out with Terror of the Peaks while playing testing with friends. It was funny
You are talking about Monastery Swiftspear rotating, so it's worth mentioning that we have until August 2025 when new Lorwyn drops, which is practically an eternity for Standard.
you know what Kambal is pointing at? Mondrak, he is pointing at Mondrak and saying "get over here"
Kambal is a "one or more" trigger so unfortunately Mondrak has no impact, and Gleeful Demolition only drains for 1
@@whiteboysushi you're right, but it isn't once a turn, so any time you create a token you ping em, multiple way to generate, multiple pings. And if you're creating tokens you may as well try to get mondrak in on the fun.
I have Kambal in my Orzhov tokens deck. Mondrak + 3 mana Kaya = 4 triggers per token on Kambal, not to mention the 4 tokens you get on the board.
That Hajime no Ippo t-shirt is the best card of the entire set.
Thanks for the Commander love, brother.
If theres a villain that means theres gotta be a hero. Life is duality.
Pillage the Bog would be a great band name on top of being the most anticipated card for my Golgari rock deck
Could you do a current video on the top best 50 cards in the game?
At 13:11 you say attacking commits a crime did you mean triggers that target or just attacking because i thought declaring attackers didnt target?
Only attacking with stuff that targets, like Graveyard Trespasser.
Another Round inherently gets a blink, even if X=0. To get two blinks, it's 5 mana, which is a lot more manageable.
🃏 Great review, loved your insights on these MTG cards! 🤠
Dev's an outlaw because his budget content makes picking up fun cards and decks a steal
Opened 2 Three Steps Ahead at prerelease, easiest 3-0 of my life. Insane card
Dev is a villain!
Dev has max 3% villain in his heart.
"prick" ......
hehe
got me with the cactus joke dev
How did Loot make this list and Sandstorm Salvager or Aven Interrupter did not?
No fucking way this dude has a god damned hajime no ippo shirt??? As if he could be a cooler guy he puts that shit on and bumps up like 3 spots. Absolutly goated series thank you for being its billboard you absolute dream boat!
nexus of becoming and oltec matterweaver may be good together. you need to cast a creature to copy the golem tho.
Not a villain, but you're certainly chilling like one ;)
Celestus > Ramp into Terror of the Peaks, pitch Vaultborn Tyrant > (Push//)Pull > sac trigger, another Tyrant
(Your opponent dies by now if they can't answer enough of it, and if they do you have replacement cards and a life cushion. Achilles Heel: Sunfall as usual)

This set may not be the most exciting set, tbh, but it is still wonderful to watch Dev talk about it.
Great video!
Good work, Dev
Tinybones cannot cast Instants and Sorceries, so it's going to be tricky to get removal or card draw out of your opponent's yard.
dam good work, cheers
You are definitely Three Steps Ahead. This card is so so so busted.
Yeah that's a cool card. Ill counter it.... And draw two ... And discard this reanumation target ... And copy my bomb.
The seven cut cards should’ve been mentioned in a Coffee Break. I miss the Coffee Break segment.
Gitrog folds to Wandering Emperor unfortunately because of the trigger being on combat damage, but that's only a concern for a few months.
Akul is a dragon so he fits well into a kess commander or the ur dragon commander deck
Hey Dev .. Esper is Orzav with card draw .. Drop mic
Lavaspur Boots will go in more decks than any of these cards. Maybe not flashy, but a very efficient way to give a commander haste and a little protection
Simulacrum Synthesizer might not be good but it’s gonna be my first craft!
Loot's biggest issue is that 2 toughness, imo.
Fomori vault doesn’t strike me as good since it requires a discard, which makes it much worse than anticipate
Annie Joins Up auto include in a Shrines deck.
11:58 Hey Dev, 7 Mana would get you 3 blinks since you still get one when X=0
Waiting for the Ippo the Fighting universes beyond set
Bristly Bill goes in Mythweaver Poq deck😁
Ay man imma buy you a laser level for the simic mana back there on that wall without a cow skull on it.
If spreading love and being kind makes you a villain, then i really need to rethink my assessments of people.
Some of the best pirates printed in the cowboy set
Isn't the card Another Round is 3 mana for a blink, 5 mana for two blink cycles....etc?
Howdy chikkin
*tribal
Also, with Kambal, his second ability reads "one or more" so a spell making two or three tokens will still only cost your opponent one life.
U the best 🎉 😊 1:06
25:55 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Dev i gotta correct you about Another Round because I think you've made the same mistake twice now. Its XX2W and X is every *additional* blink/how many times you repeat the process. You said 7 mana for 2 blinks and in another video called it 5 mana eerie interlude. 7 mana is 3 blinks.
Railway Brawler couldn't be a commander but could be a good one in the 99
"He might be a bit of a prick" 😂😂
Shout out to the cowboys who played magic before otj
Dev villain arc incoming!
Edit: Esoteric Duplicator. Technically, Scene of the Crime is an artifact land you can sacrifice... Wonder if there'll be some shenanigans with that...
Edit 2: Wait... People are saying Dinal Showdown isnt a standard card? Sure, an instant speed sweeper isn't standard playable... 🤣
First! cows are delicious
I think you are sleeping on tiny ones joins up, it enables crimes for free as long as you're playing legends, which there are million great legends to play. It's the perfect crime enabler in standard.
Tiny Bones riding Loot. Make it happen.
Captain Storm only pumps one of your guys on an artifact ETB, not the whole crew. I love ya, Dev, and I really like your lists and whatnot, but I wish sometimes that you got your ducks in a row in terms of card interactions.
Tiny bones and Giant Beavers

ITS AN ADVISOR!!!!
You look so much like seth rogan its crazy 🤣
Bro I popped the fuck off seeing this come up in my feed! Lets get it! Woo! Yeah! Yee-haw even!
Pylons is just a slightly better Grotto, but doesn't deserve to be in the top 10.
“I got a hammer it home” how can a card be both overrated & simultaneously in your top 10 🤔
bit of a conundrum friend, feels more like it’s properly rated
always knew dev was a stoner
Goldvein Hydra on 50 ... makes me think I should maybe stop watching.
Card sucks bruv
Cards good, just nothing like people are making it out to be
Relying on dies triggers just isn't what it used to be, too much exile in the format.
Also a 5 mana 4/4 isn't what it used to be.
Maybe you should. If you watch Dev then you should be ready for his hot takes. Also he’s typically talking standard. Goldvein definitely has places in edh.
Goldvein is a fine card. I think it does deserve to be higher on the list, but not as high as it's price has been saying it is
They actually genderswapped Paul Bunyan ahahahahahah classic WOTC behaviour.
