    Thanks so much for the shout out Mark! What a sweetie😘 your sketchbooks are looking cracking. I also favour the A5 Softback books. Small enough to actually finish and cheap enough not to stress about! ❤

    I have been watching all of your gel plate art and think you are really talented . I love your drawings and art. So orginal. I have no art education just started a few years ago at age 80ha. I love abstract art and gel art. It is fun but I have trouble transferring magazines even though I have been able to do some fairly well. When I watch you do it I get frustrated. You do it so well and looks easy.
    I think your sketching is
    Outstanding. I did robed to your program.
    Thanks

    A nice reminder of what I should be doing. The ideas come thick and fast at the wrong times but sometimes you need something tangible to get you back to why you thought them interesting, relying on remembering them is too hit and miss. I know I work@ lot out through process, I wish I could keep remembering that. I love the a5’s too. I have been having fun with pastels btw, many thanks. Still hoping to get my printer connected, another thing you reminded me of. I had a book about fish that caught my imagination when I was a kid, I liked the really weird ones, spent hours over a spiny looking lion fish! We had a massive pile of National Geographic mags that I would give my eye teeth for now!

    That's a format easy to make oneself, either with thread and needle or a stapler and a paper selection for different media either per booklet or a mixed paper booklet. It definitely piqued my interest, thank you for sharing. FYI you could put them together in a travel journal Midori style.

    Progress, absolutely! Great how you show sketching in museum with light weight, small notebook that isn't too cumbersome. The mixture of prints, ideas and sketches go together well. Thanks for the update.

      Progress for me is doing it regularly and having the discipline to not rip the books up to use for paper. There is not temptation to rip up these small books and definitely inclined to put them in my pocket :)

    Stunning drawings, as always. I do think you should revisit the "failed" illustration you mention at 5:35. While it's definitely creepy, it also definitely looks successfully creepy, to me. I love the way you handled the lower lip, chin and teeth! I'd really be interested in seeing you explore more with the idea of separating parts of a cut collage image and filling in the gaps with drawing, printing, or other collage. Very cool idea!
    I also love your use of text--especially the large stencil letters with fine outlines. I'm curious to know how you made these, since the one shown at 7:31 shows duplicated line work in the interior of the capital N. The duplicate almost works like a drop shadow. Cool effect! Thanks for another inspiring peek into your practice. I'm always in awe of your drawings and the creativity with which you deploy the gel plate! Also, congratulations on both keeping up your sketchbook practice and on passing 20,000 subs! Keep going!

    • @yeatesmakes
      @yeatesmakes  Рік тому

      Hi there, thanks for lovely comment and for congrats on 20.000 subs. I'm getting near a million views, which I reckon will feel like a massive achievement!!! If you'd have asked me 2 years ago that I'd be a youtuber, I would have (politely) laughed!!!!!
      The drop shadow was just printing the same ballpoint pen transfer twice in different colours. I used an old plastic stencil my dad had to draw the letter shapes out. Been having fun working on a massive cardboard box transfer using my two big plates joined together!! And trying some fabric transfer. Sure there'll be vids on all that soon : )

    • @Xenopticon
      @Xenopticon Рік тому

      @@yeatesmakes So, did you make the scribbled lines through the stencils? They look so fluid. When I've tried something like that (not often), the pen (or other mark-maker) catches on the interior edges of the stencils, and that translates into a visible difference in the marks, at that intersection with the edge of the stencil or mask. How did you avoid that?
      And will we be able to know when you've reached a million views? (I'm a little in awe of that number, as well, and it's not my channel!)

    That IS inspiring, Mark!
    I started a sketchbook a couple of years ago and then it was like hitting a brick wall, artistically. I paid too much for the book I had ordered online and it became just too precious. LOL!
    Now that it has sat dormant for a while and I forgot what I paid for it, I could be less protective of it and give it a good artistic thrashing to break it in properly.
    Thanks for the update!

      Hi Rachel, I've started so many sketchbooks over the years but the mistake I've made is spending a lot of fancy hardbacks that are heavy and that I then feel a bit pressured to do something 'good' in. I've been using these little softback A5 books from a number of makers - Seawhites and HobbyCraft mainly. I like the Seawhites one made from recycled paper cups : 0
