- Catapult Launches & arrested Landings of C-2A Greyhounds On Flight Deck Of Supercarrier USS Nimitz.
This video includes recently recorded footage of Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 30 (VRC-30). VRC-30 operates the venerable C-2A Greyhound in the performance of the Carrier On-Board Delivery "C.O.D." mission. The Providers transport passengers, high-priority aircraft, ship, and weapons system components, U.S. Mail, and other cargo to and from the United States Navy's Pacific Fleet aircraft carriers, both at home in Southern California and wherever our CVNs may be deployed around the world. By providing rapid daily air delivery service between ship and shore, VRC-30 maximizes the warfighting readiness of deployed Carrier Strike Groups (CSG) and enables CSG commanders to bring maximum lethality to the enemies of the United States, wherever they may be.

I caught the cable flying as a passenger with VRC-30 and was Catted off with the same.I was with VS-41 doing carrier quals on the Enterprise CVN-65.Was an AT3 trouble shooter/final checker....GO VRC-30!!
Saw the Nimitz in San Diego in late September of 2019. What a truly mighty ship. Absolutely beautiful.
1:55 This guy has the dangerous job
I think any job on the deck of an aircraft carrier could be considered a dangerous job
Dio Jodianto we don’t 😂
Interesting to see from the outside of the plane thanks for sharing this video I was always on the inside of the plane
I was catapulted off the ship (NIMITZ) on the Greyhound in November of 79 sending me home the middle of the MedterainOcean. MM3 MOJICA M DIVISION USS NIMITZ CVN 68 76-80 LONG LIVE SNIPES .
Many fond memories of the COD, I have a few cats/traps in the backward facing seats in this great aircraft. My last footsteps on the flight deck was stepping on board a Cod USS Coral Sea 1986 heading home after a 7 month cruise. Flew into Sig. then our brothers in the Air Force gave us a ride to Dover in a KC10.
Great to see some transport guys!
Awesome!
fantastic! best!
amazing!
Excellent spectacular.
Saludos desde Buenos Aires Argentina.
👍😎
What a badass video!
Nice video by the way :)
I got to say landing on USS Regan in one of those was one hell of a ride
There's no way you would get me to do an arrested landing or even a cat shot I've seen too many birds and aviators have accidents no way
VRC-50, Cubi Point Philippines. 1972, lots of fun!

C-2's need an upgrade and kept in service
It’s crazy that it went from hardly being able to take of b-25 to this
Road in the back a few times with VRC-50 going to and from the Midway.
All that airplane just to haul the mail LOL!
4Runner Steve, and Jollibee, Popeyes, Pizza Hut or whatever is local to the Det 😂
LOL they have seats that can be pinned to a track that can carry around 30 sailors or Marines. plus parts for aircraft that needs emergency repairs act. And Mail!!!
Sad to see these workhorses finally be retired
nice job/
👌👌👌
Life line of the carriers.
klesmer or just being normal and docking in a port
Hard to see how the V-22 will replace this especially after the SLEP upgrade to add many of the new features from the E-2D.
From what I’ve gathered, the MV22s has a reduced cost per launch/land cycle because they don’t use the CATOBAR, that also helps reduce the stress to the airframe, it also reduce the deck operations of launching and landing an aircraft due to its freedom from the CATOBAR system, and because it doesn’t use the CATOBAR system it could carry loads up to two spare FA18 spare engines, which the C2As couldn’t deliver before.
Edit : the navy would also spend less in training cargo pilots to land on an aircraft carrier.
Inside view would be great

01:39 : I am interested in the propeller... I understand that the original had four blades, now they have eight... what performance increase do they provide by going to eight blades?
Usually it leads to slower max speed but better acceleration. It is like going 1 gear down on your car.

big plane for a ship !
- This plane has quite an obsolete design. How much power do you actually need?
- YES
- Wait, do you seriously need folding wings?
- YES
Folding wings saves space to pack planes closer together both on deck and in the hangers below.
The guy in the green jacket has a very dangerous job !
The green shirts are the people who manage the catapult and arresting cable so even small mistakes can be the enormous accidents

1:20 I would be so afraid that the cable would snap in front of me
sir bork I heard they do hard landing on carriers to make sure they would catch the cable
What was your job in the U.S. Navy?
Somebody handed me little cardboard boxes and I handed them to the next guy.
what was your job in the marines?
field day.

Another good reason for having cats and wires.
And a carrier large enough to handle the mail truck.
Mike Rogers or you can just dock in a port like normal and receive the same service

this airplane have a wrong design with twin propellers motors...
must be opposite spins...
not same spins
No, same spin allows same engines and same propellers : thus, it eases a lot the maintenance and logistics (and reduces costs).
However same spin (and clockwise spin) props makes the left (port) engine more critical (at low speed), but the right (starboard) engine may be put a bit closer to the center axis to counter that effect (I don't know if it is the case on the C-2 Greyhound).
Cf Wikipedia "critical engine" to understand the deal with same spin props : To sum up : at high angle of attack (slow speed) the props going downward gives more push than when going upward. then the push on dual props with same spin is not symmetrical. (One pushes more inward (close to the center axis of the plane), the other outward).
