Very good tutorial. Like your style and your pleasant sounding voice, as opposed to another video person whose cackles & self congratulating threw me over the edge, as I had to put the video on "silent'. YOUR WORK is far superior & you are not arrogant. THANK YOU!!!

I agree the delivery of the tutorial really matters! I also put some on silent too. I want to watch & learn but need to feel comfortable with the voice. Shouting & such really frazzles & unsettles me.
I use my geli plate, but haven’t tried lino prints with it. Something new to try! Yeah
I've watched a couple videos from yours and I love your experiments with the gelli plate! Looking forward to see more.

Hi there. I’ve just come across this video tutorial. I wanted to say thanks so much for sharing. I’m a huge fan of Gelli printing, I’ve been experimenting for the last 3 - 4 years. I love the way that you combine the prints with your Lino cut designs. This is a technique that I’ve been wanting to try for ages. I will be working my way through your other videos for tips and tricks. I really love your enthusiasm, and look forward to seeing your artwork in future videos. 😊
Hi Tracy - the two techniques are so compatible! I guess because the gel prints generally come off really flat in surface they offer a decent surface to print on. I'm going to try my oil based block printing inks as, up to now, I've only been experimenting with cheap water based stuff. Hope you like my other vids - there's plenty of ideas and suggestions on a similar themes. My latest on collagraph and gel plate was loads of fun and has opened up lots ideas for my own work.

I love your seaweed print made of masking tape. I’ve only ever done one collagraph, and that was way back in the 80s. I can’t wait to combine that technique with the gel plate. Thanks again for your inspiration 😊

This is great. Love your work and I'm especially fond of the jackdaw. I didn't know you had to leave the paper on for 2 minutes. Maybe that's where I've gone wrong.

Thankyou, Rose for your lovely comment. The 2 minute rule is not absolute but I find when pulling multiple layer of with one wet layer, 2 minutes and some weight helps. Really have to be careful with the paper you're using though when leaving it so long - it can get stuck and rip or delaminate. Let me know how you get on with the techniques.

Another great tutorial! I’ve just started experimenting with masking tape after watching one of your vids. It’s an old wooden door surrounded by an old stone wall. I find a lot of beauty in such subjects & have a few reference photos now to work with. I’m hoping to do some decent work with them. Fingers Crossed. Thank you for all your great tutorials! I’m learning so much & every tutorial teaches me something! Your tutorials are some of the best if not the best! and are a great incentive for me.
Do you know you can make your own gel plates? Vastly less expensive.

If you are printing with water based block printing inks, doesn't the image smear when you are painting on the gel medium when adding the tissue paper collage? Had to giggle about the knickers on the line. Must have been washday.
Definitely a risk that water based inks will run... just got to be very light touch! Goodness me! I didn't notice the underwear! Don't think my neighbour watches UA-camm I'll get away with it!

Thank you for the inspiration. This video is really great. I do have a question if you don't mind. You seem to wait 2 min and put a heavy book during the image transfer. Does it really make a difference ?
Hi Eric, thanks for the comment and I'm delighted you got some ideas and inspiration. I find if I am 'pulling' a number dry layers off with a wet layer that waiting a while helps. Putting a weight on seems to make a bit of difference too. If I am just pulling one wet layer off straight after applying it then waiting isn't so necessary. I'm only learning too! Been printmaking a long time but Gelli plate is a new thing my mate introduced me to! Have a try and leave comments and we'll crack it together!!!

Do you have a tip for transfer with the newspaper on the Gelli-Plate? I have rarely success - it's always a surprise when it works. Thank you
HI Kleeblatt - first, make sure the acrylic layer is really thin. You'll then need to find a stack of options to transfer. Standard Newspaper print isn't good. Magazines with slightly glossier paper seem to work well - I think the ink needed on glossier paper must have more oil which then resists the acrylic. I've found that the magazine supplements you get in weekend newspapers over in UK work well - the Financial Times supplement is great! Also fashion / music magazines and so on work well. The BEST for text transfer is Letraset - you then have the added benefit of total control over words and fonts! Good luck and keep your great videos coming - so glad to see your subscribers going up!
@@yeatesmakes I will try some other magazines. I do not get the Financial Times here in Germany, but I try with other magazines. I was already a bit disappointed and have given up the transfer. I'm trying again. I will definitely use the idea with Letraset;) Thank you. Also your subscribers grow, which makes me happy. Your videos are very inspiring.

Thanks Patricia! I find a lot of enjoyment in experimenting! In regard to my gel prints, well... a lot hang around the place! some go as presents. I've really not been doing them long, only a few months. Some will make it onto my website once completed - I'm starting from scratch with a new website with a shop in hope of selling some art.
Do you use regular tissue paper? I’d be worried about it fading.
well...it's non bleed, fade resistant, acid free but it's not the ultra fancy expensive craft stuff. I'm yet to find find one the doesn't fade a bit with time (even expensive types). Best defense I've found for a piece using coloured tissue I really want to preserve is in a frame behind UV resistant glass.
Oh the letters are waaay cool! And the tracing paper print is very clever.
I'm not taking credit for the tracing paper technique - I adapted that from a technique I picked up in the 'Collage Workbook' which is a great resource if you haven't come across it.
Hello! Thanks a lot for you channel! Can't stop printing from found it. One question: what acril paint di you use at first laer? What mark? Or... It must dry quickly?

Really glad my channel is giving you ideas and motivation to make things. That is all I was aiming for!!!!
So, I have used a lot of different acrylics. If you are just pulling off one wet layer, it doesn't seem to matter too much which brand of paint. Most seem to work OK with image transfer from magazine text etc. I have been using Pebeo neons and Liquitex plus a really cheap set and they are all OK.
Where I have noticed a big difference is if I want to let layers dry then pull them off with a wet layer. I have found a heavier, better quality paint works best. I have been using Daler Rowney white mainly to 'pull' multiple layers off. Other channels I had a look at rate Amsterdam acrylic and in America they seem to like 'Golden'.
Let me know how you get on - I thought about doing a video on different paints but i think playing with what you have available is part of the fun!!

I'm just began and havn't time to "used a lot of different acrylics".
I have few difrents mark of dry quickly. And I took a look 2 colors of Pebeo. I used it for second layer and it's perfect!!! With Pebeo I took what I want!!! Pebeo I saw in your video ;)
My rules at now:
- one or first layer - I use quickly dry acril (I want to try more marks) and print very fast (for one laer).
- second layer - Pebeo, slow dry.
I want make artist's book in gelliprint. Two layers it's enough for me. Becouse I also want to use brushes or pencils at finish. I need't thick layer of colors on the paper.

My gelli plate experiments so far have been fairly elementary so I am looking forward to expanding. I am a photographer, and i have yet to be successful in transferring one of my photos with the gelli plate. I will keep trying though! Cheers!
Make your photos as high contrast as possible and laser print them. It's hit and miss! There's this channel ua-cam.com/channels/4KsJ92CLWBhaosvs3Rq5XQ.html that might help, the lady is great but she makes it look easier than it is! Good luck!
