I wanted to make you aware of the following: I did a lot of testing with inkjet printers instead of laser print copies. I have a Canon Pixma inkjet printer which uses a combination of pigment and dye ink. There are two methods for reliable image transfers: 1. Use brochure paper. 2. A fantastic cheap method I came across lately: just use plain paper. Use a black and white image (color converted to gray scale) and print it with your printer with normal, color (yes color ! settings). Press it onto your plate without any medium. Spray the back with water. Let it sit for a while. The water on the back of the paper will dislodge the ink. Peel the paper off and you will have a perfect transferred image. It might not work with every printer, but with printers such as Canon that use a combination of inks it works flawlessly
I posted the full procedure plus image on “Learn Gelli Plate Printing” on FB. I got hundreds of thumbs up for this post, that shows that there is a real desire to learn more about this method. Not sure how to share images with you?

Could you tell me what kind of paper you are using to make your laser copies? I know we should not use photo paper. But the printer gave m too many options, like “regular”, “gloss”, “card stock”, “stationery”, etc. I chose “card stock” because I thought it would saturate moisture well, but it didn’t work at all. Am using a laser printer. I had my images printed at a professional print shop on a laser printer on card stock paper. I thought maybe it was the paper I used that caused the problem. Now I'm wondering if I'm doing something clearly wrong. I put thin layer paint on the gelli mat, immediately place laser image on plate, press well, and all the paint lifts up with no image left on plate. Could this be environmental issue and maybe I'm letting the paint dry too long or not long enough(?) I used the first method you showed on the video. I live in a warm, humid climate (Hawaii) and was working outside.
Maybe the printer is lying to me (or incorrect) when they say these are laser prints? It seems like at least part of the image should be adhering onto the plate regardless of environment. This is so strange!
Thank you for your detailed demonstrations! I enjoy watching them and your creativity. I am wondering what kind of a print are you starting with for your image transfers? Is it an inkjet print? Also does the printout transfer better in black and white or color? Thank you 😊
Yes you can use thicker scrapbooking paper, good quality paint is always better for everything! But the amount of paint on the plate is very important, not too much!! That’s the key! 👍🏼 cheers Froyle

This is so strange!
i missed a few tips, what kind of printing paper was used? is it a normal paper and inkjet printer.
I only use colour laser copy prints because they work the best! 👍🏼 cheers
Do I have to use a special Printer or ink or even paper for it?? To print the image
Yes you need a good quality colour laser print for the transfer process 👍🏼 cheers!
Hi you 😍😍 I have a question for you. Did you use a laser printer for those printed pictures ??
Yes definitely! Colour laser prints work best! Happy creating! 😘 Cheers Froyle
what is the gel made of? can we make it ourselves or do we have to buy. i am not satisfied with how small the gel slabs are
Yes you can make one with gelatin 👍🏼 You’ll define lots of recipes online 😍 cheers
Thank you for your detailed demonstrations! I enjoy watching them and your creativity. I am wondering what kind of a print are you starting with for your image transfers? Is it an inkjet print? Also does the printout transfer better in black and white or color? Thank you 😊
I only use laser print copies and I have found colour works better than black & white, cheers Froyle
@@FroyleArt you’ve answered my questions 🎉
Great! But which kind of paper use ?
Colour laser copy on regular paper printed onto Japanese rice paper 👍🏼 cheers!
What kind of paper are you using? Love your work - beautiful
I should have looked at the other comments 😆 I see you’ve used tissue paper
@@annemohan9958 I also use a lot of Chinese rice paper or calligraphy paper, I buy it from Amazon 👍🏼
at 16:20 what kind of paper are you doing pull on?
I use Chinese rice paper (I buy it from Amazon) and white tissue, cheers Froyle
Замечательное видео.🤩 Спасибо большое, что так подробно все показали, мне это очень помогло.
Thanks for joining me! Cheers Froyle 😘
Yes you can use regular copy paper, although I prefer Chinese rice paper or Japanese calligraphy paper because it is softer & more absorbent.
Yes you can use thicker scrapbooking paper, good quality paint is always better for everything! But the amount of paint on the plate is very important, not too much!! That’s the key! 👍🏼 cheers Froyle
Can we use a4 printer paper to use for transfer ? Usually my paper gets rlly flimsy and like fragile after print, doesn’t seem ok
To pull the print yes, but you need a good quality laser print to make the transfer 👍🏼 cheers!
Is it possible u can transfer it to fabric? And how?? And are these gel like stuff come in bigger size?
Yes & Yes!! Haha! You can get the gel plate much larger, I also have one! Cheers Froyle
Hi, a few questions about the original photo print: what kind of paper do you have the image printed on? Does the type of paper matter? Your paper looks thicker thab regular A4 printer paper... Thanks!
Regular paper colour laser print! 👍🏼 cheers!
could print the photo in any printer? Or does it have to be a certain kind of paper and ink?
I have found colour laser copy prints to work best! 😘 cheers
Hi, Froyle. If I don't have the rice paper, can I use regular paper to transfer the print?
Yes definitely 👍🏼 I’ve been using wet strength tissue recently 😍 that works great! Cheers!
Thank you so much. This was so helpful
So glad! 😘 happy creating! Cheers!
