Ultraviolence is one of my favourite albums, she got hate for "romanticizing abuse" however a victim can tell their story however they feel and I think she represented the cycle of abuse and the emotion behind it so well.
Many people who dealt with abuse can relate to this album. Their are people who have never had to deal with abuse but are so privileged to think that they can even talk for those who have its dumb.
@@lanaxbillie614 totally agree every abuse victims story can look different and that's ok. So glad she connected with other people who can relate to this stuff through her music it means a lot to us :) ty for ur reactions
Weird fact: the male vocals that come in at the end of Brooklyn Baby were supposed to be recorded by Lou Reed, but unfortunately, he passed away the day before he was supposed to come to the studio. It would have been fucking awesome. Lou Reed was the lead singer for the Velvet Underground, one of my faves. Brooklyn Baby was written as a satirical look at the hipster kids that came to New York with their extensive jazz record collections, penchant for beat poetry, and hydroponic weed.

her newest album is probably her most mature and personal album she has made yet. in order to enjoy it you gotta pay attention to the lyrics. there’s not much on production like ultraviolence, but i would say her it is her best yet😫 im literally inlove with it loool
@@scorpiosun4 yes but this is a cover of Nina Simone’s version. It’s like when someone says they are singing “I will always love you” by Whitney Houston because it’s her version they are covering. It’s just a way of phrasing it.
You should check out the deluxe tracks to this album too!!! (Black Beauty, Guns and Roses, Florida Kilos) You can also do Is this Happiness and Flipside that are extra songs to this album too
No matter how many times I have listened to the song ultraviolence it ALWAYS hits me really hard. I cry every single time. The play on "I can hear (police) sirens sirens violins violins" instead of 'violence' n how her mind changes the police sirens sound to violins to protect herself, and the "we can go back to the start when I don't know who you are" -wish I had never even known you and the "I could have died right there in his arms b/ he was right beside me"- he could have literally killed me right there; "Jim taught me that loving him was never enough"- learning that no matter how much I loved it was never enough for you. ahhh I can go on n on, it always gets to me
West coast is golden!! Top tier song!! It used to be heavily slept on, but gained popularity on tiktok so now some fans claim youre a fake fan if u like it 💀
West Coast was not slept on, y’all just get on here and say ANYTHING 💀💀 It’s one of her highest charting song on the Billboard Hot 100 and her second highest charting debut song
@Mannymoco239 I mean it was a single ofc but it didn't get Nearly as much attention as in its release days to where the songs at now. I stand by what I said 🤷♂️
She's come along way in terms of songwriting since this album (some of these lyrics are kinda ehhhhh), but I loved ultraviolence when it came out (fun fact: it was produced by dan auerbach from the black keys). it's probably my favourite older album of her's, and west coast is one of my favourite songs by her. you should definitely check out her newest album at some point
idk if you caught it but west coast samples a snip of the beatles' "and i love her" -- it's the guitar riff that leads into the chorus ! you should def check out classic rock records like "pet sounds" by the beach boys or the beatles' revolver/abbey road/sgt peppers !!
I have only seen your two Lana reactions and I think these two are the albums you're gonna enjoy the most. The guitar gets you everytime, and as much as I love it too, it's hard to find rock-ish songs in her discography like the ones you heard. But I really love her piano & vocals songs cause I think it elevates her message, her poetry. Her next album after Ultraviolence is Honeymoon (my all time favorite, btw).
still loving the videos my guy a few recommendations: Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Nurture - Porter Robinson (light summer electric with fun production) Koi No Yokan - Deftones (very heavy, sexier and heavier radiohead imo) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
sooooo nice to see someone love sad girl as much as i do!!! i feel like a lot of reactors really overlook it or don't care for it but i could tell u were really enjoying it. it's one of my favorites, i fall more in love with the production and vocals every time
A sad fact about old money is that she says her father’s love was always strong, but not her mother because they have a really bad relationship and barely even talk. So she just mentions her glamour instead
Personally my favourite album of hers. She incorporates a lot of different elements into her music so you have people who like her for certain things, I personally love when she brings out her angst and hurt in a dark and abrasive tone like in this album. Wish she would do almost like a rock album.
Being a sophomore in hs, first getting into weed and living on the beach in the summer, this album (specifically West Coast) literally changed my brain chemistry
i think it's worth it to go in order you really see the story and growth of Lana and how she gets to deal with new problems and new relationships (less abusive ones) listening to A&W after her whole discography is really an experience
I agree with you about NFR. This album blew my mind when it came out 10 years ago. It’s a totally different sound from her first album which was an unexpected surprise, from that moment on I knew she was a true artist. Here’s my top 4 Lana albums: 1. Born to Die - listening to it now still sounds so fresh. The fact that it’s consistently on the Billboards Top 200 since its release on 2012 says a lot about it. 2. Honestly it’s a tie between this and Honeymoon. To me, Honeymoon is like Ultraviolence’s calmer sister. I gravitate more towards one album depending on the season and my mood 😂. I think Honeymoon had the same producers with Ultraviolence, maybe that’s why to me they’re like sisters lol. 3. Did you know that there’s a tunnel under ocean boulevard - this album is beautiful. From how it was produced to her heart wrenching song writing, it’s just a near perfect album. This album really shows how she matured from 2012’s Born to Die, and I love how she incorporated different sounds throughout her different eras into one album and made it work so beautifully. 4. NFR - I really like this album too, the song writing is beautiful. But sonically it doesn’t really fit with my taste, but that’s just me. I find myself gravitating towards the other 3 albums more. Btw, Loving your reviews.
As much as I loved the reaction I wish you reacted to the deluxe version 😩 and there’s also like a hundred unreleased songs that are fully produced which you should check out, her best era for sure
pls do deluxe version songs. Also song Ultraviolence might be about her realtionships with alcohol since she was addicted in her teens and was sent to boarding school. Jim might be Jim Beam
i would do born to die next to see where it started and then do the newest album which might be her magnum opus, youll appreciate it more i think if youve heard the beginning of Lana Del Rey
Its been a while mr smags im sorry for not commenting so often but its because you still havent heard 3d country by geese‼️my life was changed as they constantly delivered inside of my ears‼️
I think let it be by the replacements would be an interesting reaction from you. Considering its somewhat different from everything youve been reacting too recently, in that its just straight alt rock
been loving your reviews, was goin back through some of your other videos and saw you've done a couple sufjan stevens albums. you NEED to check out Age of Adz. its a fantastic concept album he did inspired by outsider art and its by far my favorite thing of his that ive listened to
I like Ultraviolence but i think it does not hold up sonically, vocally, and lyrically to her later works, NFR, and after. It is, however, an important point in her discography as the album was almost completely scrapped due to the label thinking it was absolute shit and not wanting to green-light it. Still, highly recommend her latest record.
crazy thing is a lot of the scrapped songs would’ve absolutely worked. i.e.: pink champagne (let me love you like a woman demo), yes to heaven (now released, but more like the honeymoon demo), your girl, fine china, wild one and the ones that ended up on blue banisters. so much potential for this album. not to mention the flipside japan exclusive 🥲
That's fair, I respect that take. There are some great songs on here. I prefer her later work as her storytelling and writing have grown so much over the years. I'm also not the biggest fan of the sort of, superficial and borderline toxic image she was projecting on her earlier albums. I really enjoy the character development and the maturity on her later stuff.
@@MN-nr5hd i get where ur coming from, but as someone who has lived through a lot of what she sang about in her earlier career, i really appreciate the story telling. makes me feel like i’m not alone in the crazy, mostly bad shit i’ve lived through. that said, i LOVE her later albums (my top 3 are honeymoon, blue banisters, and ocean blvd). i’ve grown, and can still relate heavily to every topic she touches on. fingertips was my favorite song off ocean blvd 🥲
