    Lana keeps telling a story in some mv. In blue jeans is the first part, where she met the man. In born to die they have a relationship that ends with Lana dying. In shades of cool the man that was with her is now old and still cant forget Lana. And west coast is the fourth mv in which they seem together and in the chorus they are also together but Lana is actually dead. That’s why she is a hologram in shades of cool and he only imagining of her. So in shades of cool and west coast we watch him imaging Lana, because he is older but Lana is still the same age (if u watch the mv in this order u will see it too) Even the lyrics in shades of cool match the theory that Lana is dead
    And in the west coast I think we see the two sides of Lana but we still see her. She is free, poor, wild, young but at the same time she is diva, sexy, rich. The good and the “bad” where Lana is someone in between

    The flowers she has in the UV video are lilies which are often used at funerals but represent rebirth. Lana has more flower reference especially in Blue Banister and they are always picked for a reason.

      I don’t know any meanings to flowers so that will definitely have to be something I google when we get there!! 🖤

    in shades of cool her character is dead and her ghost haunts him as he is old and she is still young. he still looks for her and watches her ghost dance. this could also apply to west coast as she is young and he is old.

    In West Coast she also talks about leaving a bf to find her fame. In the frames in the car, she found it but doesn't seem happy.

    I personally do think she is talking about physical abuse (as well as other forms). Back in 2014 she didn't really talk a lot about this in interviews (or was vague about it) but more recently she's talked about intimate partner violence (not specifics but in general) and the fact that she's happy that artists are now more able to write about whatever they want to in their songs and it's more accepted, which wasn't really the case back then.

      That makes a lot of sense. I always find it strange when anyone talks about their interpretations as fact, but it happens a lot on here and ends up confusing me. I try so hard to just make my own interpretations! 🖤

    The way she smiles at the camera when she sings “he hit me and it felt like a kiss” like she was down bad. To the listener it’s obviously such a terrible thing but she’s smiling through it. She does it twice btw in the first and second chorus like it’s very intentional imo

    I also just noticed it (following your thought process about water/fire) how ultraviolence video is so burnt out, both the colours and the old video effects. Plus, I'm not sure if you were leading to the same point, but when you said how shadows look beautiful on her face it clicked for me that it's just like bruises, you know, he hit her and it felt like a kiss, she wore those bruises like those flower lace shadows.

    • @PassionDumpofanAutist
      @PassionDumpofanAutist  2 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, totally. The literal representation of bruises, as well as what I was explaining about embracing your shadow side. It’s so poetic!! 🖤

    I've always found the UV mv interesting because it's supposed to represent a wedding but for some reasons it always makes me think of a funeral, probably because of how the music sounds but also with the lilies and her walking along to an empty church, there's a feeling of death march more than wedding to me and I think it's definitely intentional. It's like death and love are intertwined and it's a connection we see all over Born To Die.
    Also lilies used to be the symbol of the French monarchy which means they're symbolic of power and I think it's brillant because even when she's in those abusive relationships, a lot of the time men don't realize she has the power because she's self-aware of what's happening and let them think they have the upper hand but in reality most of the time she's knows what she's doing. Ultraviolence for me perfectly represents Lana's dichotomy : both delusional and self-aware.

    i luv the way u react to lana so much!! yes she does use colours a lot as symbolism. Her favourite colour is blue she relates it to sad, cool, calm, happiness too even, depending on the song. in that scene in shades of cool it's showing cherry blossoms and bullets im pretty sure. i love the opposites of violence and peace showing in that scene. the next holographic scene she has a sword going into her, rose petals coming from her head. ur so right she is not glamorizing abuse in uv. even if it seems like that, thats the mindset of a victim who has been in that type of situation, bc in those traumatic spaces sometimes you r so caught up in the abuse and lies you're told, that u have to reason with the toxicity and make excuses/glamorize ur situation, at least that's been my experience w this type of relationship. but it's very obvious she knows the danger of abuse and is sharing that side of the whole topic as well. im so so appreciative of this whole album and how she wasn't afraid to talk ab her own experience bc it does make me feel seen and i luv when art does show the darkness and deepness of issues like u commented on. cant wait 4 the next reactions!!

    Imo in West Coast the scenes in the car represent Hollywood and the fame- Lana has written a lot of songs where she said how she wished she could escape the fame now that she has it. The scenes on the beach represent the careless life she had before. I think you also missed the very brief shot of heroin being heated up at the beginning of the video a reference to drugs that is also a theme in UV.

    It’s funny how you talk about how your number 1 favorite sound is a loon. Lana has actually sampled the sound of a distorted loon in songs like million dollar man and many other songs in her next albums.

    Also, I don't know if you're into astrology, but Lana is a Cancer Sun and Leo Moon, so she has both the water and fire signs in her and this is super important to her (which you'll learn more about later on in your journey!!)

    Actually, you're somewhat correct about the foreshadowing honeymoon in ultraviolence mv, though its unitentional.
    The original concept was about a cult leader (more fitting with the themes and the meaning of the song) but it got scrapped. Her then boyfriend Francesco, directed the official ultraviolence mv, it was one of the last promo for the ultraviolence era, i think it was made around the same time the honeymoon concept started to exist. Her references in the video are honeymoon-esque because when she filmed it she was over her ultraviolence era
    Also the existing footage from the cult leader video was later used for a mv for a song in the album honeymoon (i tried not to spoil it)
    I hope the way i explained it makes sense😅

    Bradley Soileau is the one who appears at the beach (West Coast) and also appeared in Born To Die and Blue Jeans. Mark Mahoney is another different actor, he is almost 70 years old (Bradley is near 40) and he's the one who appears in the car in West Coast and then Shades of Cool too.
    Also, as a curiosity, the original Ultraviolence video recreated a sect referencing Charles Manson, but in the end it did not come out (it is said that there were problems with the label and they did not let her release that video and she, pissed off, recorded this with the help of her boyfriend at the time and an iPhone). The original Ultraviolence video was recycled and used for Freak, a song from her next album, Honeymoon.

    I don't know if you know these facts about Ultraviolence. After the whole "authenticity" talk and the SNL performance, the label started pushing Lana around and blocked Ultraviolence from being released. Black Beauty was supposed to be a single and it leaked, so they postponed everything. Lana met Dan Auerbach (from The Black Keys) and decided to rework the album with him (you can search for West Coast Radio Mix - it was released in the Germany version of the album and it is the original version - before Dan Auerbach). Anyway, the record company was still blocking the release and they only agreed to release it if Paul Epworth (Adele's producer) agreed to take a listen and collaborate. He listened to it and said there was nothing he would change and so the record company greenlit the album. Except for the original Ultraviolence music video (which was reworked for Freak in Honeymoon) that dealt with Jim Jones and the Jonestown collective suicide.
    So, yeah... This Ultraviolence video was recorded with her then boyfriend Francesco Carrozzini to replace the orginal one. Francesco is an Italian man, son of then-editor-in-chief of Italy Vogue. His relationship with Lana was troubled, you might wanna check the photos of them in the airport, with Lana crying a lot and also the public cheating news, because he clearly inspired her to write Salvatore in Honeymoon. Anyway, Honeymoon was released in such a short time after Ultraviolence that it is nice to see how those eras collided a lot, yet produced very different albums.

    • @jpvianini
      @jpvianini 2 місяці тому

      Oh, and if you need to know more about Francesco, read Lana's interview with Billboard in October 2015 - she was the cover. She says some troubling things about their relationship.
