@@robegerton8923 the speedmaster is the name of the whole collection with all it’s variants. The moonwatch is a nickname of the ‘original’ basic speedmaster professional model.

@@speedracer2111 In general that may be true but actually the moonwatch has steadily increased in value over the years and so has resale value. Back in 2008 I could get an 861 Moon for about $1200. Now they’re 5k plus and I don’t think prices will come back down on them. But really it’s about buying what you like!

I have the previous model with the Hesalite crystal. It's part of a three-watch collection that also includes an Aqua Terra and Seamaster, and of the three it's the most instantly recognized. If it was my only watch I might be slightly concerned about scratches but I've had no issues, and when I do get a scratch it's pretty easy to buff out. All in all a great watch, and one I will never sell.

Here's my 2 cents as a Speedy owner: really consider what you're after. Mine is the Hesalite, and I was after authenticity at the time, but since it scuffs sooooo easily, I wish I had gone for a sapphire sandwich, because if I had, I would wear it a lot more often.
It's still special, it's just not used enough.

    • @marcuscastillo514
      @marcuscastillo514 2 роки тому +10

I was just about to say, I think the sapphire is the better option. Yes it’s not historically the same but the applied Omega logo, seeing the movement in the back, and the polishing inner links, I just think it looks better. And then the exact reason you said about scratches

@@mikeraiche5063 I had the same thought initially, but the reality is it's too fragile a watch for me to use regularly. In some ways, it makes it more special when I do break it out and use it.
But, it also means I don't have as close a bond to it as I do to my Squale 1521 (I know it's a contentious watch, but it's a tank) and the Seiko SARB 045 JDM that are my Daily's.

Thanks for the video. I'm the prod owner of a speedmaster professionnal sapphire bought in July 22 and it's amazing how you can't get tired of contemplating the watch all day long. I really love the details of the dial as well as how beautiful is the bracelet. Something true that is mentioned in the video, I have the feeling the bracelet size is not fitting perfectly well my wrist. Indeed, it's either a bit too large, or too small. It looks my wrist size is in between Omega's standards. Anyway, if I want it's possible to buy a nice customized strap (ostrich or alligator). Let's see later ! But in the end, if you are like me and fall in love with the design, go for it!

I think the 3861 looks old but isn't, and you can actually see it and get it, unlike a Sub, which is equally timeless and cool too. So a no brainer if you like the retro look, modern movement and it fits smaller than it sounds too. I rotate with a Seamaster and the beauty with Omega and their end links is the watches fit even if you think 42mm is too big, def try them before discarding the idea. 6.75 inch wrist and they fit me fine.

I owned the 1861 hesalite version but upgraded to the new sapphire sandwich. The 3 main reasons..
    1 - new updated movement
    2 - Improved bracelet
3 - sapphire crystal because I got sick of the scratches on my 1861 hesalite.

I was on a boat few days ago with friends. And I would never have taken off my Seamaster AT because it could have gotten scratched or even dropped in the water and then going to the ground. I felt much safer with it on the wrist than somewhere on the boat.
But if it wouldn't have been waterproof I would probably have put it to a friend's wrist who stayed on the boat or just worn another watch.

I swear, I don't understand guy's obsession with the idea of swimming with a watch. Do you really need to know the exact time when in the pool or waste-deep in the ocean? Take the watch off and not have to worry about it. If you're so obsessed with having a watch in the water, buy a G-Shock and call it a day.

I went for the automatic $2000 after tax and service and it's my daily. 17cm wrist and I like the subtle/vintage size. The pro is nice too obviously but I got everything I wanted and am not trying to un-Frankenstein a mystery watch from Facebook marketplace. Mine came from Japan and went immediately to be serviced at a reputable watchmaker. Runs like a top. The new coaxial 3861 bracelet looks nearly identical to my reduced factory, though I've since sourced a vintage omega mesh that I prefer.

The proportions are way better look, the automatic movement is hassle free to use for people on the go and it sits on the wrist way better than the pro. People hype over the fact the pro is the one that went to the moon but in actual fact, the speedy first originated as a racing watch and a true racing chronograph is a 39mm.

I don’t agree that we should start with the Pro. Despite their aesthetic similarities, they’re completely different watches. The case size is the obvious difference but its size andthe fact that it’s an automatic makes it a more practical daily wear as it’s more comfortable, less intrusive, and less involved.
Of course you could argue that a manual wind movement creates a more involved and engaging experience. However, I’ve wanted a speedy pro for as long as I can remember and my dad gave my a reduced for my graduation. Even then I’ve always wanted the pro but it’s been years and I still haven’t bought one because whenever I’m close to saving up and start looking for deals another watch comes along and I end up forgoing the pro because ultimately the reduced is a great watch

I hate how the sapphire version is like $1k more than the hesalite. It's really not about preference anymore as much as the price savings.

There's a lot of LE speedmasters that will be released in the near future (they keep doing this) , how do I know which ones of these LE will be the most desirable and sought after?

Tough to say. Try to find one commemorating a significant event. I like the 2020 Tokyo Olympics edition since the Olympics never happened in 2020. Might be a funny historical anomaly.

I own three, the FOIS, the 1861 with hesalite, and the latest sapphire sandwich. I was able to buy them all with substantial discounts and full warranty so my tip would be find that discount.

I am really trying to like the Speedmaster because I know how popular and iconic of a watch it is. But I dunno, I’m having a hard time understanding the massive hype. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. It just doesn’t excite me much. Maybe if I keep looking at it, I will understand eventually. I love my own watch though, and I’ve seen many comments that it’s ugly and stupid

It's a very nice relatively expensive utilitarian watch... not a piece of blingy jewelry.. those who understand it get it...those who expect a jewelry experience will feel letdown.
That's the beauty of a speedmaster professional... it's not blingy, not loud... It's an expensive utility watch.

@@Mega-zi7ys Ya, that makes sense. I've worn pretty cheap watches most of my life, just this past year I really got into luxury watches. From what I can tell the Speedster is one of the most popular watches out there. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about it. Some watches grow on me, maybe this will be one of them. I'm going to try one on the next time I get a chance

@@pete6705 the white 321 is shinier maybe if you want that slightly more jewelry look...
But for me i got a 3861 hesalite solid metal back and brushed bracelet for a really utilitarian look.
Hope this helps 👌 best regards

Hands down i would go with the "OLD" version. I have visited the Omega store to take a look at the new version and all my doubts in keeping or upgrading to the new one was put to an end, the new one has a more premium look on the face but the bracelet looks fragile and less masculine then the older. I'll keep my old version. Cheers

On the contrary 3 of my friends are now waitlisted from omega boutique for their 3861's... after I got mine. They were all Rolex fans before. Got interested on the 3861 because of the noise created by the moonswatch. And ppl know breguet, jacque droz, Blancpain, glashutte original all belong to swatch group as well. So it's a non -issue.

    Two more things :
1, been so many years the Speedmaster only has 50m water resistant, washing the watch already causes water to go in.
2, Wheres the prove of Speedmaster going to moon? Why can't they land on moon again? Think about it...
