    I have one reference 3570.50.00 that I acquired at a special moment in my life and I love it. My first Speedmaster. I don't sell it and I won't exchange it for more modern references, even though I know the comfort of the new bracelet and the significant improvement that the new caliber 3861 has brought. If you use it carefully and maintain it regularly with a good watchmaker, it will last a long time. Hugs from this Brazilian spectator.

    Dial typography is interesting indeed. One font that appears again and again across several brands is Eurostile, an Italian 1960s font. But then there are also Times New Roman and Helvetica. Sometimes even Arial. Given how considered watch design is, it seems weird that this does very often not extend to the typography.

      I bought a hesi this week. Fully expected to buy a SS, because everyone saying how the hesi has a "warmth" to it sounded like post-purchase justification.
      I tried both on. Now I get it. The hesilite really does change the way the dial displays for the better over the sapphire. It's very hard to explain, but the viewing angles and somewhat of a 3D effect happen with the hesi that don't happen with the sapphire.
      That said...I do wish there was a hesi back option as well. I don't look at the movement often, but I do like to admire from time to time.

    The Speedmaster, in his original form like those in this video, is one of the few "not super expensive" watches that hasn't been properly replicated (by now) by chinese factories, especially now that they managed to fully reproduce the 4130 from Rolex. When they do it, they use the Seagull ST19 which has the subdials farer from the center of the dial. Hence you can recognize the replica just by that and by the fact that the original has the hour markers at 3/6/9 as long as the others, while on the rep they are a tad shorter.

    (From OMEGA website FAQ)
    All current OMEGA watches are water resistant to the depth defined by the model specifications, provided that the water resistant components are intact. This means that an OMEGA watch that is water resistant to 30 metres can be worn for swimming (with vigorous movement) at depths of up to 30 metres underwater for extended periods without restriction.

    I am shopping for an everyday watch that I intend to wear as my primary watch for a very long time. ( going for a sort minimalist approach) I have narrowed it down to either Rolex GMT master ii 70hrs, or Speedy professional, sapphire. The price difference between them is nearly 100% Rolex being more expensive on the gray market, but given i intend to do this once, the price itself is not a determining factor. I have owned several Omegas, but no Rolex yet. Love the Speedy Pro look and feel though, and Rolex rubes me the wrong way with the artificial shortage and AD shenanigans. Tough choice.

    • @johnnyguitar6697

      If you like them both, then the Speedmaster is a no brainer, on cost and availability alone. It's also more understated, if such things matter to you. I have been a Rolex man for the best part of my time in this hobby (25 years), and still own a number of them, but find myself wearing my Speedmaster most of the time these days. Mine is the latest hesalite crystal / 3861 movement version, the sapphire version is arguably more versatile as it doesn't require the same level of care for a primary watch.

I was instantly turned off by it and it made me sad because I really wanted to like the first watch worn on the moon and the watch that timed the 14 second burn on Apollo 13. I spent the next two years in a watch depression. Recently, I was in a watch store interested in a completely different Omega and the guy asked if I wanted to try on a Moonwatch. t first I dismissed it. I already knew that I didn’t like it. My advice is don’t rush, and continue to look around and go to an AD or boutique and try them on. If money is an issue, I would look at a mint condition discontinued version, like the 1861 or 1863. Those are a little cheaper than the new current models. You can also look at older models with an 861 movement too, it’s more vintage. If you like the new models of the 3861, then decide if you like the hesalite or Sapphire Sandwich. Good luck on your hunt! And hope you get your Speedy soon!!!

      completely agree. I wish people would get over it. I've worn one pretty much every day for 30 years almost. I swim 3x a week, I've snorkel several times on holiday, water-ski, jet ski, washed the car and showered. Perfectly fine and never an issue. If you ned more than that the speedy isn't the way to go.

    • @RuiMFilho
      @RuiMFilho Рік тому

      @@ivanmatos6124 De fato, é uma bobagem, pois, um Dress watch dificilmente tem uma capacidade superior à 30m e nem por isso a gente deixa de comprá-lo. Mas, como o speedmaster é, em tese, um relógio esportivo (racing), me incomoda bastante saber que eu não poderia entrar numa piscina com ele, por exemplo. Acho que a Omega poderia rever isto com muita facilidade (do mesmo jeito que disponibilizou vidro de safira, ao invés de ter apenas o de Heselite). Um relógio que me chama muita atenção neste sentido é o IWC Pilot Chronograph (mesmo sem ser da mesma categoria e não ser icônico).
