Glad everyone is ok. I really like the AWD Challenger. The beautiful contrast of the Yellow Jacket against the snow is just awesome . I pray to the HP Gods for a Hemi in this beautiful machine. I still feel the GT Pentestar would be fun during the wait.
If your goal is not to do racing its fine. I got a V8 and exept for the sound I dont see MUCH of a difference. They bearly have the same time on a 0-60
if you get a Ripp supercharger and just the supercharger alone this engine can make 400 HP + at the wheels not at the crank, at the crank must be like 478 HP
I think dodge is right that they will sell more v6 awd challengers however I think they are wrong about an awd v8 or hellcat not selling well. After a car has so much HP awd is almost a must!
@RS1 in usa maybe but in canada rwd in winter is shit...its POSSIBLE but have a plow in your trunk because you will get stuckat LEAST 8 times in the winter
@@dannysdailys But the Mach E isn’t a mustang. I love electric cars, but you can’t call an electric suv a Mustang, and people who want one who live in places that get a lot of snow won’t consider the Mach E as an alternative.
"The Maine question..." Solid pun! Anyway I grew up just minutes from that location! Glad you got to visit Maine, you'll have to come back in the Summer.
I understand why this video exist and such, but this is just silly. Anybody who has a rwd car, and snow, and isn't an idiot will put snow tires on it. I'd much rather have a rwd challenger with good snow tires, than an awd challenger with all seasons, all day any day.
wantsanewvehicle Agreed. However i plow snow with all season but they are big...and good. But snow tires are awesome. I use snow tires on my 2wd pickup and use it for my employees to drive around and shovel sidewalks. Obviously can't plow with my 2wd truck so i use it for salting sidewalks. Put a snow blower, some shovels and bags of salt in the back and it goes through everything. Even with no weight in the back it goes through snow no problem. Totally agree with you on this video. Good video but silly.
dingakasteve wrx would destroy it due to it being about 2000 pounds lighter, even with about 50 less horses. the sti would further embarrass the challenger with the same power but keeping the weight still about 2000 pounds lighter
They are two different cars geared to two different markets. Basically the only thing they have in common is that they are both AWD but both of the systems are probably different.
I'm a Mopar fan, and even I can tell you how that would end up....the Subie would win. Much lighter, only 5 less horsepower, and the Subie was really made for snow. I loves me some Challenger, but this just looks kinda disappointing....My 2013 Taurus SHO has 60 more hp, and the FWD bias under normal conditions lends itself much more easily to shifting to AWD when the conditions require. I can't imagine how Dodge has their setup wired....it's gotta be heavy and clumsy. The SHO, meanwhile, has one simple power take-off in the trans/diff that sends power to the rear wheels the minute the fronts start slipping. I'd happily have a Hellcat though....as a fair-weather, dry road car only.
With 10 years of chassis tweaks and far more cross bracing... the Germans were amazed with what dodge did with the brakes and control. I love mine and it sees 100 MPH plus almost daily.. Nice living off an interstate...
haha I saw that too, but then I thought maybe it was a hoodie tied around his waist. I just looked again, yeah definitely a dodge fanny pack rofl. He does also seem like the kind of person who would wear one.
This is a great promotional video for the new Challenger but I see no point in comparing an AWD car vs Rear wheel drive sports car. I think the better point is that the Mustang and Camaro did get going and were driveable in that snow. Not sure anyone would have died either... good video though.
I've never been a big fan of the Challenger (I'd consider myself more of a Mustang guy), but with the AWD option and that shade of Jeep TJ yellow, I gotta say, it's pretty appealing.
Thanks for the review. This car was a long shot for me to buy this year anyway, but it just left my shopping list. The whole point of these cars performance-wise is acceleration, and 305hp sounds like a lot, but I didn't see it in the review - seemed no faster than my current AWD (Passat w/275hp) and the exhaust note certainly sounded a lot worse than my car's W8 with its flat-plane crankshaft.
Are most RWD sports car owners driving in winter with all season tires? The demo set up by Dodge seems strange to me. All three cars would have the same winter tires in their sizes imho of an ideal demo.
Tee Bee It was made/handled/conditioned/manipulated/orchestrated in a way that made the Challenger look like the be all end all of the "pony cars" under specific conditions(snow, winter storm, blah blah blah).😏

I think it's a great idea, the Pentastar v6's react well(for a newer engine) to basic bolt ons and a tune for those who want more power than stock, but still want decent fuel mileage and need the extra grip. It will never be an R/T or SRT, but I think it's a great alternative to the people who are on the fence between a an optioned out SXT or a base R/T.

The Hellcat doesn't need AWD, it needs slightly wider, stickier tires. Also, a few years ago, AWD was an option on the Charger R/T -- yes, with the 5.7 HEMI. I never understood why they stopped selling that package.
NovaMan 350 was about to say 2014 had the v8 awd option and no one lost their mind over it then... just have to wait a few years and people think it's the first time ever again I guess.
When I bought my Challenger R/T 6 speed new in 09, the first thing I thought was, 'Man, this car NEEDS AWD!' It's a frigg'n handful even in the rain! Of course the newer models have redesigned suspension and better brakes, but still, I don't understand why the AWD Hemi cars didn't catch on. Maybe it's because of that gutless 5 speed AOD it was coupled to.. Imagine how fun this car would be, how usable it would be yr round, with a 6 speed manual, and AWD and 1 of the Hemi's? As food for thought, my 09 beats those V6 AWD mileage figures, btw... not by a lot, but it still does.
seems like poor Andre is always struck with unfortunate luck... 4runner vs hill, hummer vs puddle, xterra vs puddle 2.0, and Challenger vs tree. I just wish you caught this one on video. Great show guys, you make some fine real tv.
Starts at 40,000 CAD here up north. I know it's AWD but still. A GT mustang is about the same price, however, so it depends what a buyer would value more.
you do not need awd you need snow tires. My old rwd Olds 98 with snows never got stuck and was the best car I ever driven in winter. I drive a snow plow in the winter so i have to drive to my plow before the roads are bladed. just get snow tires I live in Alberta Canada so i know snow and ice.

1Fast GXP AWD gives people in snow belt climates, the perfect reason to justify the purchase of the Challenger to their significant other. This car should sell very well up north and out west in the U.S. A sporty performance car that doesn't have to be parked in your garage from November to April is a winner for FCA. People buy the V8 Hemi models to smoke the tires at stop lights. This V6 is for practical folks who want a cool sports car to drive to work during the week and drive it on road trips on the weekends.
A perfect car for my wife. Her old 2006 Mustang V-6 ( With winter Bilizzaks). Could not get up our drive way with only 4 inches of snow on it. Her 2017 GT Awd with all season tires. Had problems with over 14" inches of Mn snow. Great fun at stop lights taken off fast. On snow and ice. And the looks on 4x4 SUVs and pick truck owners faces. You can see they are thinking, how the hell. Is that Challenger taken off so fast on ice.
Although it may not be a fair comparison it proves the point of dodge making an ad sports car that you can drive all year around through snow etc . Great videos , I watch almost all your videos .
I'd really like to see all three with the same size wheels/tires and of the same brand model of tire - of course the AWD would still be better but would certainly be interesting to see if the other RWD two would be just a useless or just not as good as the Challenger.
Its nice for the FCA Rep to say that the v6 is the biggest seller, but if FCA is concern about AWD not selling, then do as I had to do. I built my Challenger SRT on line and waited 8 weeks for it. Sell to only the people that want to buy a SRT, Hellcat or Demon in an AWD. FCA problem is transferring the power through the converter for anything more then a v6. I have driven this car and it does ok on dry mountain roads. If you take a Camaro, Mustang and Challenger GT and they are all v6, the Challenger out handles all of them. Its not just a snow car. Where I live, the Troopers have Chargers V8 AWD and they are good, about 80hp more. The Grand Jeep Cherokee SRT AWD has many problems with its converter, imagine a Hellcat or Demon.
I'd like to learn more about the differences between this Dodge AWD system vs. a dedicated awd sportscar like the Nissan GTR. My dream video in the future will be Tesla vs. Challenger GT vs. Cayenne (maybe GTR)... in the snow, on the road and on the track.
This v6 model is simply an easy way for Dodge to test the market, reliability of there AWD chassis system and see how many of there customers will want a GT-R killer.
I think an AWD Hellcat or V8 challenger should still be offered because you never know if that becomes more popular with the costumers than the V6 challenger.
shitbox. the unibody structure is almost 20 years old in that car. stop being cheap and redesign the damn thing already . a two wheel drive version of this car with a hemi , weighs as much as a 3 row crossover with AWD. ridiculous.
Mehdi Elkhatib Its actually got a lot of power for a 6 cylinder you should test drive one at a dealer for shoots & giggles, youd be surprised. And GT doesn't necessarily mean "fast" just depends on what their definition of GT is, some manufacturers have different meanings unfortunately just to keep us confused I imagine lol
Mehdi Elkhatib there are two type of GT cars. You have grand touring and also grand turismo. In this case it mean grand touring.. also it's has plenty of power from the V6 the problem is the weight of the car. it's just too damn heavy.. and with that AWD system it adds more weight as well..
Mehdi Elkhatib there will be an AWD v8 version within a few months. Ever heard of the Demon??? Dodge is trolling us with videos like this ahead of the it's launch.
Jim Marchant it's 100% confirmed that the demon will be RWD. The demon is going to be about 200 pounds lighter more HP and a wider body so the wider tires wont look goofy. Still going to be a handful to handle though. Despite it losing around 200 pounds it's still going to be a heavy car.. a AWD system that will be able to handle that kind of power would be super heavy...
Jim Marchant how is the Demon going to be AWD when they are reducing the weight by 200 pounds. Adding AWD will make the weight suffer. Ever thought of that ?
The Challenger outperforms the cars that are directly in its class and that is the Mustang and Camaro. If I wanted a crap box then I would by the SHO,Audi or Focus.
You can find an SXT pretty loaded for $27-28,000. This car was almost $38,000 MSRP, pretty loaded also. So basically the GT emblem and AWD is costing you 10,000 dollars. Depends on what you want I guess.
What is it 4100-4200lbs with 305hp? Sorry, not interested. Would rather buy an STI. Same power, A LOT less weight. ~4.5 to 60. Roughly the same price to start. STI a bit more, but a better made car and fun too
I think the AWD chally will do pretty good in winter weather when driving normal. Obviously driving it like a race car in this weather like here its not going to do well. And when it comes to ice even a AWD tractor trailer wouldn't have much traction. Regardless AWD anything is better than rear wheel drive in winter weather. Just be a smart driver!
you can drive in the snow with that cool, you needed a Jeep. something that was meant to be driven in the snow. it is still cool that the car has all-wheel drive and can attempt to drive in the snow. :)
Dodge picked the wrong sized car to expand their AWD option. They also made a mistake IMO by dropping the Dart instead of developing an AWD version with enough HP to compete with the likes of the WRX, Focus ST, RS, and others. The Dart filled a nice niche as far as size, but FCA didn't seem to massage that model beyond the various "blacktop" and other cosmetics, and that probably contributed to its failure. The highest HP engine barely put out 180 horses, and the car in its segment was the doggiest in terms of performance. I personally think the time was right to bring out their rumored SRT version with AWD, 280hp, price it at--or less than this Challenger GT--and it would have been a home run or, at least far more of a hit than adding AWD to an already tired model.
great analogy, it needs all-wheel drive like peanut butter needs jelly, because peanut butter still good, it's just really good with jelly. But it does make sense to save money to hit the largest market. It is still a very technologically-advanced and a great package that they're putting it on. Id buy one.
A V8 AWD Challenger makes a lot of sense. Even the smallest V8 would be a marked improvement. They could call the GT8. Tell Dodge that moniker is gratis.😎
Glad everyone is ok. I really like the AWD Challenger. The beautiful contrast of the Yellow Jacket against the snow is just awesome .

I'd like to learn more about the differences between this Dodge AWD system vs. a dedicated awd sportscar like the Nissan GTR. My dream video in the future will be Tesla vs. Challenger GT vs. Cayenne (maybe GTR)... in the snow, on the road and on the track.
I wish it would snow more where I am. I love driving in the snow
This v6 model is simply an easy way for Dodge to test the market, reliability of there AWD chassis system and see how many of there customers will want a GT-R killer.
The comparison is the GT Challenger AWD is a lot more expensive than the normal RWD v6 competition and competes with the competitions v8 RWD lineup.
I think an AWD Hellcat or V8 challenger should still be offered because you never know if that becomes more popular with the costumers than the V6 challenger.
This video would have been truly interesting if (at a minimum) the Ford and Chevy had snow tires.
Hard to root for one when you're a fan of all three
This reminds me of the old Dukes of Hazard episode where they converted the General Lee into a 4x4 to chase down some Jeeps.
shitbox. the unibody structure is almost 20 years old in that car. stop being cheap and redesign the damn thing already . a two wheel drive version of this car with a hemi , weighs as much as a 3 row crossover with AWD. ridiculous.
it has no power no point of the car or its Emblem "gt" waiting on the demon
Jim Marchant demon is RWD
Jim Marchant it's 100% confirmed that the demon will be RWD. The demon is going to be about 200 pounds lighter more HP and a wider body so the wider tires wont look goofy. Still going to be a handful to handle though. Despite it losing around 200 pounds it's still going to be a heavy car.. a AWD system that will be able to handle that kind of power would be super heavy...
Meh if I want an awd v6 car I'd rather get the SHO
PH03NIX 7827 the dodge demon will be AWD I guarantee it. they are trolling us with videos like this ahead of its launch.
Jim Marchant how is the Demon going to be AWD when they are reducing the weight by 200 pounds. Adding AWD will make the weight suffer. Ever thought of that ?
audi S4
Focus RS
The Challenger outperforms the cars that are directly in its class and that is the Mustang and Camaro. If I wanted a crap box then I would by the SHO,Audi or Focus.
I say a Kia Stinger versus Challenger GT all wheel drive on both of course and that they are DIRECT competitors
STI a bit more, but a better made car and fun too
I'm guessing the reason the challenger didn't have a flake of snow on it is that sunshine yellow was just too hot, lol.
Just be a smart driver!
what about a convertible challenger? probably too heavy.
the awd system is hardly awd, its more about contact patch weight and tread depth at this point.
Kazak Thranduil ya needs winter tirea0
I have a 300c HEMI AWD , love it but a challenger AWD would be a great 3rd car for daily driver
It's not the awd that matters in determining if it's a muscle car. It's the lack of a V8
Makes sense why people buy more v6 models it's cheaper people don't want to dish out another 10k for a V8
Which one of the other cars kept up a little bit better with the challenger in the snow?
I don't understand why we would do a track test and shut off traction control systems? It would vastly improve times on Camaro let's be honest!
I'd like to see you guys do your own test of an AWD vehicle with all terrain tires versus a RWD with snow tires.
you can drive in the snow with that cool, you needed a Jeep. something that was meant to be driven in the snow. it is still cool that the car has all-wheel drive and can attempt to drive in the snow. :)
Andre did a very good job driving the rwd cars on the track. Most people would have simply gotten stuck
how many "snow" crowds did you run over with the mustang
Dodge picked the wrong sized car to expand their AWD option. They also made a mistake IMO by dropping the Dart instead of developing an AWD version with enough HP to compete with the likes of the WRX, Focus ST, RS, and others. The Dart filled a nice niche as far as size, but FCA didn't seem to massage that model beyond the various "blacktop" and other cosmetics, and that probably contributed to its failure. The highest HP engine barely put out 180 horses, and the car in its segment was the doggiest in terms of performance. I personally think the time was right to bring out their rumored SRT version with AWD, 280hp, price it at--or less than this Challenger GT--and it would have been a home run or, at least far more of a hit than adding AWD to an already tired model.
im from portland! wish i could have stumbeled across this
welcome to maine
I like Dodge's effort here. I hope it's a success.
great analogy, it needs all-wheel drive like peanut butter needs jelly, because peanut butter still good, it's just really good with jelly.
Just drop 2 50lb plates in back rear wheel drive, then let momentum be your best friend!
