    I think she might also be using "come" as "follow" when she wants you to follow her physically or follow where she is directing her attention, so "come look" is "follow me and look (at the outside/leaves)"

      @StevenIngram 2 роки тому +178

      I think she may also use "look" to mean, "watch me as I demonstrate." So she said, "Look" and then went and stared at the door. LOL

    Shes so intelligent that I sometimes tend to forget that she is a cat after all and might want to roll in the leaves and chase birds once in a while. Thats exactly want she wanted, but she didnt have the word for "doing cat things". I have been watching her progress for quite some time now and Ive noticed something about her. She usually doesnt spam buttons, She takes her time and carefully gives inputs. But when she doesnt have a button for a word, the panic button smash comes in. "look, look, look, come, watch"

      I am in awe of this channel. I started thinking it was a very cute hoax. Then moved to the very real idea that all cats are perceptive but it's just Billi who is better at making "happy coincidences" with her buttons. That was amazing. Billi doing what she can to get outside to investigate that very intriguing leaf pile. I had a calico cat many years ago that used to hide in piles of autumn leaves because they camouflaged her at the bottom of trees. She would then wait patiently until a squirrel got too close and POUNCE!! Fortunately, she only made contact once. Scared all three of us. But, the leaf stalking continued.
    I was surprised that Billi wasn't MAD that you cut her bird stalking..err I mean bird watching short. Perhaps she thinks she can get back outside another time to "look at the leaves" and try again to rid the world of those dangerous flying dinosaurs.

    One year for a whole year my old boy decided he was an outdoor cat. He forgot there was an indoors at all. I literally sat outside with him every night on the couch under cover and wrapped him in blankets and kept him dry. I had the capacity, and it was the best time hanging out together. He passed away last year at the age of 20, and I’m grateful for every moment we shared. He was my best little buddy. Billi reminds me of him in a way, I think it’s the intelligence and communication. We didn’t have buttons, but he knew I knew what he was saying. It is a special bond to have that level of trust and understanding.

  • @MadamFoogie
    @MadamFoogie 2 роки тому +122

    Heheh, my girl does the same thing when I bring her inside after a walk. She hates coming back in, so she'll grumble and growl about it. Sometimes when it's too cold for her to go out, I'll just hold her outside the screen door, so she can at least look out for a while. But if I indulger her too long, she'll start growling and hissing, angry that I'm not _actually_ letting her outside. If Sadako had the choice, she'd be a little ragamuffin homeless cat. But she doesn't, so the poor thing has to endure warmth and shelter. XD

    • @MadamFoogie
      @MadamFoogie 2 роки тому +12

      @zistorbar It's your choice, but I feel like having indoor/outdoor cats creates too much risk, in the long term. Their lifespan will typically be halved. They're more exposed to infectious disease from other cats, most notably distemper and feline AIDS. They are also likely to suffer injury at some point. Territorial disputes and animal attacks happen all too often. In my opinion, there are other more compromising solutions that will help your cats stay safe, and also remain stimulated.
      You could take your cats out for walks, like I do. They go out at least three times a day, and once a night, unless the weather is bad. I prefer this option, because we get to explore together as a bonding exercise. Honestly, my girl could probably go without her harness, and would just shadow beside me. But I don't want her killing songbirds, she's just too good at it! XD Also, her leash can extend a lot. Three lengths worth of elastic cord, so she has the option to wander under supervision.
      Another idea is to build a "cattio." Just an enclosed area outside, attached to the house so they can come and go. Sort of like a chicken run, but a little more durable, and with more climbing/perching areas. If I had the time and money, I'd love to build one myself. It would be a nice addition to my garden, and the veggies would attract those yummy insects she likes.
      In any case, it's your decision how to keep your cats. I just wish them well. ^_^

    • @MadamFoogie
      @MadamFoogie 2 роки тому +7

      @zistorbar I can understand that to an extent. My first cat was allowed one litter before she was spayed, so she got to have the experience of motherhood once. I think that's fair, so long as the kittens are all adopted and accounted for.
      The biggest problem here is how often queens go into heat. They can pump out five litters a year, which is terrible for cat overpopulation. In some places, congestion is so bad that they have no choice but to euthanize every animal they catch.
      And, to answer your question, females are spayed at four months here, through the Humane Society. Which is also when they're ready to be adopted, fully vaccinated, microchipped and socialized. But if you go through a breeder, it's a lot easier to get an intact juvenile with a healthy record. However, it's a flat adoption price, so you'll have to pay for the vaccines and licensing yourself. At least, that was my experience from my roommate getting a bred cat.

    • @nikkiewhite476
      @nikkiewhite476 2 роки тому +4

      @zistorbar what you are claiming flies in the face of everything known scientifically and medically for cats. If, and it is a big IF, the mother cat raised her kittens and nursed them to full adulthood that might push back the regular heat a few months. But 2 to 3 years? Bull. Yes 5 heats that result in pregnancy and live kittens is rare. The numbers are used mostly as a "what if" to raise awareness to leaving your pets unaltered.
      To get 5 heats, pregnancies and kittens a year out of one cat the kittens have to be either stillborn or taken from her immediately or within the first week. It will trigger another heat cycle, do that repeatedly and viola 5 in a year. Normally the Queen will devote 4 to 7 months to raising her kittens till they self wean or she gets tired of them and kick them out. If it is early enough she will have 2 heats/pregnancies in a year but that is on the rare side. Normally Queens will have a heat once a year and spend the rest of the year raising them.

    • @nikkiewhite476
      @nikkiewhite476 2 роки тому +3

      @zistorbar yes you do claim. You wrote it here but did not say "as I remember" or "when I was a child" just that it was from your small village. Looking back at your comment I guess that could have been a misspelling of childhood, I thought it was the name of the village.
      Cats do not control their population. Period! Left to themselves they will have a litter as often as biologically possible. Either 5 a year or 1 one a year. If a queen is not having a heat a year then either she has been spayed or she is sick.
      The only high horse I am on is that I am sick of A) people spreading misinformation when there is millions of gigabytes of actual true information free for the finding on the internet. And B) people that have pets who clearly do not know how to care for those animals when there is gigabytes of free information on the internet on how to care for them and how they actually function.
      Look up the channel Kitten Lady to learn more about feral cats and kittens and how often they actually have heats. Look up the channel Helpful Vancouver Vet to learn how to care for your cat, dog or other pet.
      Grow up, your pets need you to be responsible.

    • @nikkiewhite476

    Our cat is 16. Years ago when we got a dog and was training the dog commands like sit, lay, no, etc, Mimi picked up on it. So she’ll do those commands. However, she verbally says, mom, momma and no. My mom gets a kick out of how smart she is. I’m going to send her this video now! Then she’ll know it’s not just Mimi. If we give them the time to learn, they will! She knows some sign language and understands kiss and will kiss me.

    Outdoors is like TV for Bili. Dogs like to romp and follow trails, cats like to find a nice place to sit or lay and watch the world.

    Weather or other outside words might be a good next step for concepts to teach her! Like LEAF, TREE, RAIN, SNOW, maybe even HOT and COLD, though that might be difficult since it's a little bit subjective, especially between species that don't have the same internal body temperature.

      I have been trying to teach my three cats cold and warm. We don’t have buttons but they understand a lot of words and respond to them. But when they want to go in the garage and it’s cold outside I want them to understand that they are not gonna like it and are gonna wanna come in two seconds later.

      Looks like 'leaf ' could be useful. And 'rain' -- I think Mom uses the 'wet' button for rainy weather, but 'wet' is also used if Billi gets wet. I can see 'rain' being useful when the 'outside' she wanted is wet and therefore not pleasant to go out in.

  • @ziggystardog

    My Florida dogs never knew leaves until I moved north. Now I keep captive leaf piles on the deck and their fenced in area to play and do their doggy business in. Izzy the cat couldn’t be more disinterested, except for the birds.

    I wish the buttons had been available when my Siamese rescue, Sun, was alive. He was the single most intelligent cat I've ever shared my life with, and he had a huge vocabulary. He was very good at communicating even without buttons and I can only imagine how much better his live would have been if he had had access to talking buttons. He was diabetic and he would bring me to his testing spot (where his glucometer and notebook with all his blood glucose readings was) and "ask" me to test his blood glucose levels anytime he didn't feel well. His levels were always too high when he did that, and he was letting me know that he needed me to fix it. He was so smart!
