Oh hell yea but I'm not surprised one bit, when the say there's no one like Dave that's true he has always been one to push other buttons ever since VAN HALEN began. I'll admit he's a hell of a singer in the studio but when it comes to live he wants the focus on him no matter what and although Wolfie didn't have quite the vocals that Michael Anthony does his musical showmanship proved once and for all that he's making his own footsteps on the music scene by having style and sound all his own.
Anybody else think this was going to be an interview with Roth commenting on Wolfgang, rather than a narrator reading a script from a card and showing still shots from various events and album covers?

I was just a 10 year old kid.
My babysitter asked if I had heard this new band called Van Halen…
She put in the cassette and that train started coming at me… then the bass, then the lil piano keys, followed by the most rocking song I’d ever heard before. I was like “what is this?” As I was instantly hooked. Fantastic album.
1984 was the beginning of the end.
Worlds best guitarist wanted to play keyboards. VH went from this great rock band that heads loved… to all of a sudden 13 year old girls were asking their dads to buy 1984 for them.
A lot of bands sold out in 83-84.
A very large number of once great Rock bands were now catering their music to 13 year old girls and that was the new bar for being “popular”
This many years later I see 1984 as the last of the best VH albums.
Back then I saw it as the 1st of the worst. It was already the beginning of the end.
Sammy was better before VH

I was a HUGE VH fan as well as a Huge Sammy fan.
But what they did together was such sellout crap that fit in with all the other sellout music from that era.
The only other time I felt like I did when I heard VH’s first album was hearing GNR’s first album.
I don’t put GNR up there with early VH for me, but it was close at the time. Just when music needed saving, appetite for destruction was right on time.

I wouldn't say no one had heard of either band Alexa, but, they hadn't reached their respective superstar status up to that point for sure.
I saw the same ‘78 tour. Journey, VH, and Ronnie Montrose in Memphis.
Roth's actual musical contributions to the band are usually overlooked by critics, musicians, his bandmates, and even fans. For their albums, he wrote all of the lyrics, created the vocal melodies and the attitude of the most iconic VH songs in their catalog.There is no doubt that his creativity was equal to Eddie's in creating these songs. His lyrics were far more clever than many realize,; this wasn't stupid stuff from Ratt , Bob Jovi or Guns N Roses. And his vocal phrasings were very unique; nobody sang like Roth. His musical contributions are eons more than Wolfgang's, who was essentially no more than a hired hand on bass, similar to Darryl Jones in the Stones. He just happened to have the last name of Van Halen. And Michael Anthony's contributions to VH were far greater than Wolfgang's.
Yes. DLR was 1/2 of Van Halen. I hope Wolfie isn't collecting royalties for any of the Roth era albums. Because he nor Valerie deserve a dime. Eddie's second wife deserves Eddie's share. and the rest should be split between Alex, Michael and David, with David receiving a bigger cut.

DLR has always had the speak first think later approach. That said picking on the kid of a legend is never a good thing to do. Eddie being as Iconic as he is and was will always garner the support he deserves and this will trickle down to Wolfie and Wolfie for the most part is quite about things.

The 2015 tour was great, and DLR was doing his ”schtick” with the I for the words. I’ve seen him pick and choose where that happens even when he was younger.

Roth hasn't been able to sing songs in concert in decades. He can't reproduce what he created in the studio to save his life. Listening to him sing live is absolutely abysmal. He has no room to criticize other bandmates, imo. I do think he did a fantastic job on the VH debut album - he was really in tune with EVH's playing and emotion. When the demo was produced for the debut album record executives loved the album but said they had problems with the singer...
Any collaborative effort will include differences in perspective. It's best if people can sit down and respectfully try to resolve differences. Directing profanity toward others isn't the way to go.

The title of this video made me think that Roth was going to be in an interview descibing his feelings bout Wolfgang ... this didn't tell me much of anything that I didn't already know. I seen them live 3 times between 1980 and 1984, I really liked them live, too 🟪
I'm a few years younger that David, so me saying I think David is in denial of his age and having trouble accepting it, is from experience growing up in the same time period. He has had many accomplishments in his life. Martial arts, was a paramedic, rock star and Mega Chick magnet. A 69 year old man singing some of those old VH songs just doesn't fit him any more. Too many songs from VH are about "chasing skirts" and young people "hooking up". He's had a BIG heyday and now it's all behind him.

comparing apples to oranges. back then we actually had a thriving music industry with a lot of bands and music industry charts that actually reflected what was happening in the industry. Now we have neither. I think Dave's problem is that wolfgang didn't start van halen and doesn't have as much right to it as dave does but now dave has to deal with the bosses son.

Funny how the same "rift" exists with Sammy Hagar who has Mike playing with him on projects...It was never just Dave's fault as many people think. Van Halen was the first band to have the guitarist contract lead singer's disease and go all Axl Rose.

Eddie was an alcoholic and could be a spiteful prick when drinking - they way that Eddie and Alex treated Michael Anthony was DISGRACEFUL.

I can't believe DLR is 70! He should start to tone it down a little. It's kinda ridiculous now. I was waiting to hear DLR talk directly about his feelings towards WVH. Instead, the content was taken from other sources. Not cool. A VH concert was like a giant party. Really miss those days;)

Wolfgang didn't deserve the spot, IMO. He rode on his father's coattails and was nowhere near as good as Michael Anthony, the treatment of whom was awful. Wolfgang should also realize something else. That Roth is every bit as responsible for Van Halen being legendary as EVH. One without the other was less.
DLR looks like B J Thomas. Yes, I believe he is wearing a wigg. His hairline was receding in the late 80's and he is 70 years old now.

Van Halen did not need to infuse Post-Alternative turd music. They are known for an era, and Wolf sucks at backup vocals. They sounded empty or weak without Michael Anthony's vocals.
