  • Loudwire's Lauryn Schaffner recently got to chat with Wolfgang Van Halen's about Mammoth WVH's latest album 'Mammoth II,' touring with Metallica and who he wants to collaborate with. As a bonus question, we asked him to pick his four favorite musicians to make a supergroup together - and his choices came as a surprise.

Listening to Wolfie talk says volumes about what kind of parents he had. While his father will forever be known for being the greatest guitarist ever, I think he should equally be known for inspiring his son to do what he has done

I can remember watching Wolfgang being a silly little toddler on the Arsenio show with his mom and dad in the 90's.
Now he's a well spoken, polite, adult Rock Star. Man time fly's by. I was Wolfgang's age now when that Arsenio show aired.
I'm very happy for him and his success.

only wish he was this humble when his dad let him take Michael Anthony spot and an iconic band called Van Halen that other than him being the son of the guitar God and one of the founders had nothing to do with the group that is like the epitome of indulging your child you actually take someone else's spot who not only earn that spot but helped those songs go on to be not only revered hits but iconic he was a replacement to someone who had not died who had not quit who was still ready to rock and roll and that is just ridiculous that is the exact opposite of humility I will say that he was a young man and I'm sure he wanted to be on stage with his father and his uncle but it was still a dick move and it's something of course the Van Halen family doesn't talk about even Michael Anthony doesn't talk bad about them he should That's his voice thing in harmonies that's his base that holds it together along with Alex Van Halen for the rhythm section that wasn't Wolfgang Van Halen that was Michael Anthony that made history it's like they stole history and gave it to him

@rellis881 everyone knows the van halen story. But also, it was eddie who wanted wolfie in the band at the time. Trust me, i didn't love it either... but looking back at the time, eddie was an addict/in recovery, and the only way eddie wanted to play with ANY singer was with wolfie. I dont think wolfie was ever super cocky about that at the time, either. And currently, wolfie and michael anthony consistently trade complements back and fourth on social media outlets

Wolf is so great, I think because he's not full of himself and is open to that. I've been a drummer for 44 years and I jump at the chance to play with other bands just for the learning experience.

We got to play with karnivool 16:24 they just played a show with porcupine tree the night before in LA, I hit them up on Facebook and ask them to stop in Phoenix and play a show with us and they did. It was freaking awesome.
The guys were really cool, but I mainly hung out with the soundman because he was hilarious

We heard of Karnivool through a band named fair to Midland, we played a show with them at Joe’s grotto in Phoenix and was looking up other bands they were on shows with that’s how we found out about Karnivool.

That really would be awesome to see what those two would come up with. Just those two in a studio making the entire album. 14:45 .... I hope this happens! Dave .... Do it!

Wolf is such a positive humble guy who is also an absolute monster musician. And like many of the other commenters have said, you can tell that Eddie and Valerie did a wonderful job of raising a wonderfully kind, intelligent and talented young man.

Can't call him “Wolfie”…. I think that's reserved for his mom - and fiancé. However, yes, of course the (still young) man has been blessed by being the son of possibly the greatest Rock guitarist in history. Sure, he was enormously blessed to become the Bass player in what I personally believe is the most important Heavy or Hard Rock band in history after only Led Zeppelin. And sure, he was immensely blessed to have grown up with his father, who happened to be EVH, loving and adoring him and wanting him around all the time, which led to his exposure to EVH playing, practicing, writing, and tinkering on electric Guitars, as well as even building and designing Guitars himself and with Peavey, Charvel, and ultimately Fender. But Wolf also has a wonderfully adoring mom who seems pretty great, and most of all (for these purposes) he has himself taken to Guitar, Bass, Drums, and Vocals like a freakin’ generational superstar. I'm 55. When I was a senior in Zhigh school (I think) was when the BIG news announcement was made in magazines and all over radio that mega-superstar EVH and wife Valerie were having a child. And, shit, a BOY!!! A future superstar musician for sure!! DJs joked that he'd been born with the deformity of SEVEN fingers on each hand. Humor because of his father's unbelievable speed-shredding and revolutionary playing styles that WERE super-fast and that also sounded hyper-super-fast. Anyway, there is ZEEEERO reason to speak ANY unkind words about/towards Wolf. Unless you're just seethingly jealous. So, me, Hell yes, Id LOVE to have been born into the circumstances he was. I wasn't, though. That's not Wolf’s fault. And I’ll wrap by saying this: the guy CAN ABSOLUTELY play like a monster. Guitar. Bass. Drums. And in my opinion, he’s a decent singer. There have been very few who have successfully performed EVERY note on their albums with EVERY instrument, voice included. He also seems to be a likable guy. So, Wolf, if you ever read this, just know that it is the severely envious who find nothing but insults and become “haters”. YOU just keep on Rockin’ man! We’re listening!
