Appreciate your reaction. I think it’s important to know BTS’ history before saying something so matter-of-fact. Their success has nothing to do with their government. To this day their government disrespects them. They came from a small label on the brink of bankruptcy and have make it the most successful and profitable label in SK. BTS did that on their own. Their government has never supported them they way they should. Also you can turn on the captions.

Yep, it might seem the opposite because of how politicians have been involving themselves with BTS but it's always been with the purpose of using their name for their political goals... Also, I think they're a bit weary of army 🤣

I don’t think that’s true anymore. BTS is the pride of Korea. Their government loves them now. They even gave them official diplomatic passports. Of course, it’s self-serving because the government wouldn’t feel this way if BTS wasn’t bringing billions into the Korean economy but the government certainly does not disrespect them now.

    • @esq.a.c.7694

@@csong9940 I can see why you believe that, but do a bit more research. I’m not saying every single govt official hates BTS, but in general, they, along with SK media still try to downplay BTS’s success and are disrespectful. BTS is SKs pride, but that also makes many very very jealous. Look into the controversy with the govt and their military service, the govt and the 2030 bid and the Busan concert, and media coverage of their Grammy nominations. Those are just a few, but very impactful issues.

The Korean government had 0 to do with BTS success. As RM put it the credit goes to Bighit/Hybe (their company), the 7 members, and their fans ARMY. In this music video their ages ranged from 20-24, but their current ages range from 25-30. I'm from the US.

Rather than the Korean government promoting BTS, BTS are ambassadors for Korea and have massively contributed to Korea's soft power. That government narrative you quoted is a myth some people use to try to explain BTS' success because they don't understand how a non-western group can be the top artists in the world. On a different note: You might want to check out RM's latest solo single Still Life, which is a collab with Anderson. Paak. Enjoy your journey, BTS have A Lot more to offer (about 300 songs from all possible genres). And about your question: I'm 49 and from Germany. I travelled to two different countries for their stadium tour in 2019!

The government doesn't push BTS - in fact, they asked them to do a promotional concert this fall for Korea's bid to host the World Expo, and then stuck BTS's company with the bill. 😄 Pretty gutsy. You should definitely check out the rap-line suggestions other people are posting - RM and Suga started out in the underground rap scene, and they are the real deal. They taught J-hope well, too. Oh, and I'm a 48-year-old from the Seattle area, been ARMY for a couple of years now. 💜

They flood the world with love, support, and positivity.

BTS did not nor did they ever get financial help from the South Korean government. They were blacklisted by the South Korean government in the past because of some "controversial" songs and are still not treated well...their Seoul concert recently is a perfect example. They were given Diplomatic passports for their 3rd speech at the UN because the government realized the worldwide influence BTS has and because BTS brings in nearly $4 billion to the South Korean economy. BTS was "invited" to put on a free concert recently in Busan to promote Busan's tourism which BTS paid for entirely. It was reported over 500,000 people visited Busan during that week...they don't even get that many tourists in a year!...just sayin'.

Outro Tear live with captions. Please, just please. So good.
The government “help” is only recent. Because they marketed themselves online heavily in the beginning snd for a long while. Fans pushed them higher. Fans fought hard for them to be heard and it’s why ARMY (fans) are protective of them as well. They had an uphill battle for 7-8 years before Koreans and media/gov would give them time of day. Two of them did underground when they started and there was a huge backlash from that community toward them for daring to be “idols” and calling them sellouts. It’s trash and I’m sure BTS makes them super jelly now.
I’m 35 and in Florida. I avoided BTS so long because I believed they were just fluffy pop. But they’ve got every genre and started with hip hop (what I grew up with in the early 90s). BTS hits a lot of check marks for me. And their lyricism when you find the translations are simply poetry most of the time.
If you’re at all interested, Taylor Nakamoto’s guide for them is a perfect way to find out why you may or may not resonate with them. At least you’d have more information than you do now! It’s longer but I promise that every fan will watch the whole video with you. Subbing just in case you do the guide!!

I don't even think the Korean government helps them even now. BTS for sure helps them more so than the other way around. What's shocking is that they are a lot bigger in other places than in Korea. There is content out there that explains and shows how the Korean media purposely don't promote them and downplay their success.

Government support? I can imagine Chairman Bang falling off his chair. While former President Moon may have held BTS in esteem, it was largely because they added to Korea's "soft power". I've never heard of BTS getting any help from their government, but goodness knows the government has gotten plenty from them.

They are the most talented group in history but yet so humble. These guys are so good individually but are out of this world United. There are 3 rappers : RM, SUGA, J-Hope ( who is apparently do heavy metal now 😂 ) and 4 vocalists : Jung Kook, V, Jimin, and Jin ( who just enlisted in the military service this month ). These guys can do any genres and are actually really good at it. I’m glad you liked them. Be careful…once you go into the BTS rabbit 🐇 hole….you might be very surprised of what you might discover 🧐🤔 In my honest and humble opinion, BTS is the GOAT 🐐!!! 💜💜💜💜

The kpop industry gets a boost from the government but BTS were basically outcasts in the industry so they didn't get so big due to the kpop industry. They were actually sabotaged by bigger companies and they worked their butts off using social media to build a global fanbase. So BTS got so huge in spite of attempts to block their success from within the kpop industry. BTS is also very different from other kpop groups...because they have always been involved in creating their own music and they are so authentic and humble. They earned their success through extremely hard work. Oh, American 50+ grandma here.

To answer your questions, I'm a 62 yr old Army from SF, CA. BTS is my Fountain of Youth. Although there are plenty of teen age ARMY, most of their fans are in the 20- 50+ range.
The video you saw dropped in 2017. They were 20- 24, back then. And, yes, they write much of their music and they have a hand in the production and writing of ALL their materials. Although they all have written and produced songs, some are solos, RM is credited with 183 songs and Suga, AKA, Agust D, has 134 songs to his credit. They are all members of the Korean Copywriting Association. They all have BAs and are studying for their Masters Degrees. They are currently on hiatus and have released or will be releasing solo songs before mandatory enlistment until 2025. They will come back in 2025, after all the members have completed their military obligations. Listen to Jin's, 'The Astronaut.' The melody was composed by Cold Play and the lyrics written by Jin. J-Hope, a rapper, has a mini album with two M/Vs, ' Arson' and 'More'. RM just dropped an album with 10 singles, which topped six Billboard charts . You must listen to the title track, "Wild Flower', which debuted in the Billboard Hot 100 Charts . His other Huge hit is, 'Still Life', with Anderson Paak. Both trended #1 when they dropped. If you want to listen to more hip hop, try, 'Ugh', 'Bapsae', the Cyphers and 'Dwichita' by Agust D.
Btw, the Korean government had not much to do with their success. They were discriminated on by the big companies and even some KPop fans because they cam from a small company. Theit success has more to do with their global fans and their great, diverse music, more than anything else.

I HIGHLY recommend (especially with Ddaeng and Ugh) checking out the explanation videos by DKDKTV because as non-Koreans it’s difficult to pick up on the the language and cultural context, especially the word play that in their bars. And as a rapper, you know that’s a big part of what listeners love rap. They also have solo mix tapes with epic tracks (Suga goes by Agust D when he solos) . Again, especially with Agust D’s Daechwita or the solos where they reference Carl Jung’s psychoanalytic theories (Persona, Shadow, Ego), DKDKTV’s explanation videos are on point. Highly, highly recommend and viewers love a combo reaction to see how you react to all the knowledge dropped. I also recommend checking out Taylor’s Guide to BTS members: the Bangtan 7. They don’t quite get supported by their government in they way that you mentioned, but have been acknowledged by their government after they became a global success. A lot of their music touches on subjects that help fans deal with loneliness, self-love, and hardships and their genuine and authentic approach to their music, fans, and social justice issues is really what has inspired their fandom. 💜

They Write their own. Go down the rabbit hole. Their history story is beautiful. Holding true, powering through, staying true to themselves and their voices. On hiatus to find their individual voices to make the group stronger!after 10 yrs as BTS. They will be back. Rm and Suga are main producers but each artist adds a song, a lyric, a melody in every track or album. They have behind the scenes videos on UA-cam produced by them to show their planning together as a group their albums. Just amazing and hard working. Mic drop.

They have 3 all English songs (Dynamite, Butter, and Permission To Dance). Their ages currently is 25 to 30. They have group songs and solo songs. There are 3 rappers and 4 vocalist. They have some just the Rappers and some just volcalist.

I’m from the US and I’m over 40. Never into boybands growing up. These guys are so skilled, with banger songs, and lyrics that are usually so much deeper than typical boyband songs. The few songs you have watched are more poppy, but they do so many genres with socio-political, psychological, and philosophical themes. I have never been so fascinated by a group of ppl, let alone music artists. Thanks for reacting. You’re pretty refreshing lol

I am 42 years old and I have been a BTS fan since 2015... way before they were successful in America. My daughter was going to move to south Korea so we learned the language... culture.... and music. I love watching people react to BTS for the first time. They are not the pop band that society makes them out to be. They are far more than that. Im sure that you learned more about them after this reaction. But I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for going into this reaction with any open mind. And I truly hope that you dug a little deeper and discovered the music the rappers do outside of BTS....Their solo stuff because that shit is UNMATCHED

I’m from Australia and relatively new to BTS. Two of the members, RM (deep voice guy) and Suga started as underground rappers at 13 years of age (not sure if that was Korean or international age).
As for getting monetary support from their government - not a chance. It’s, in fact, the other way round. They have constantly been used by their government because of their enormous popularity and success. BTS brings to the South Korean’s economy an estimated $3.6 billion per year and that was in a 2018 report. It would be significantly more now. Even in Busan’s recent bid for expo 2030 BTS and their company had to organise and perform a free concert without the aid of the government despite the government’s initial representations to the contrary. In fact, all they did was bask in BTS’ hard work and success.

It's funny because most of the song was in English. They can understand and speak more English recently. But only the leader, RM is fluent. I wish my fellow Armys warned reactors about turning the captions on, right from the very beginning. And also to include the links for the best MVs, it'd be a lot easier. You're in for a big surprise. They sing, dance, rap, and produce, compose and write a lot of their songs. They're known for their deep meanings and loyalty to their fans. We're a unit you know, and will support and protect them till the end because we've been through thick and thin since the beginning. Welcome to the BTS universe 💜💜

These boys are art himselfs. So versatile and fire since the beggining, seoriusly, you should listen since their debut. They have A LOT of different music. They do everything with love and effort, and their messages always talk trues and are a good influence. And if it wasn't enough, their personalities and their relationship, GOD.... few boy bands last for so long, they are a family, always think about their fans... it is something reciprocal. ARMY for BTS and BTS for ARMY, no wonder why they've come this far.
They came out of nowhere, trusting that they would have enough support to be able to stay in that company that at the time was at a critical point, they did not have it easy at all, it was that passion they felt for their work and the help they gave each other. among them.
You have a lot to do with it, seriously, when I think I've seen them all, something else always surprises me, what's more, I'm still discovering songs that maybe they are not that popular with the fandom. You'll need more than a year to know all their projects that range from programs, games, trips... That's why these guys are a phenomenon, because apart from music artists we have been able to see them doing everything, cooking, acting, painting, and doing many more challenges.
Their music, in addition to being very varied, sends messages about social criticism, self-love, and many times making reference to other sources such as books, philosophical thoughts...
Another thing that cannot be missing is the visual work in his video clips, they are truly amazing and many times you come across symbolism and metaphors... it makes you think of many things, in fact, they have their own universe, from which ARMY draws many theories.
This is the best presentation I have been able to give of them. They have dedicated all their youth to their fans and we must thank them in the best way by giving them the love and support they deserve.
PD: I would like to recommend you some of their songs that might like: Idol, Silver Spoon (Baepsae), Cypher 1, Cypher 2, Cypher 3, Cyhper 4, UGH, Outro:Tear, Fire, Danger, 21st century girl, Spine Breaker, Not Today, We On, Tomorrow, Dyonisus, Black Swan, Louder than bombs, let me know, war of hormone, DNA, Fake love, We are bulletpfoof pt 1 / 2, Born Singer (inspiration from J.cole), airplane pt 2, Boyz in fun, boy with luv, I need you, film out, home, young forever, Spring day, House of cards, just one day...
These were only a few of the songs that I wanted to recommend, I wish I could write all the songs but the comment is long enough, just one thing more, their personal songs are also so good, maybe this helps you to know them better. This was my best comment ever hahahahah. Thank you for reading.

I have been blessed to be able to attend three of their live concerts and all of their paid on line concert during Covid . They were a life line for me during a time when the world was so dark. You’ll never know what it’s like to have to go into someone’s home with only hours sometime to prepare them to say goodbye to a love one. Our patient load seem to had triple during Covid at the Hospice where I worked. Songs like Am fine, spring day, not today, Stay Gold, forever young, on my playlist would bring me peace and remind me that it wasn’t going to always be this WAY COVID restrictions would lift and life would get back to normal. Sad to say life will never go back to normal and we are barely living with Covid and it’s many strands that continue to take the life of love ones.

    Hello from Argentina.
RM and Suga come from the underground.
    J-Hope practiced with them.
    All three are incredible rappers.
BTS was going to be a hip hop group, but they are versatile (hip hop, R&B, ballads, etc.).
Now they have support but at first it wasn't like that, they debuted with a small company, they had no resources to promote themselves or to compete for time on television programs.
The seven of them even slept in one small room.
They had to work a lot to be where they are now, from the beginning they were involved in the writing, composition and production of their music.
They are between 25-30 years old (26-31 in Korean age). Please react to "UGH" busan concert, it's just the rap line. ( "CC" Subtitle) 💜

Their influences are Nas, 2Pac, Eminem, Biggie, and and Pharrell, and there's quite a bit of boom bap in their music. They came from the bottom bottom my dude, but after they became successful, it was the government that came to them to help promote Soth Korean culture. They didn't get any handouts.
