Excellent video. I'm about to tackle my '95 f350. Seeing this video lay it all out perfectly. Well done. I have a feeling I'm about to sit and watch all pf your content. I have had this truck since brand new and am always looking sort any short cut or find someone who's done it already. Thanks again for what you do.
Thank you! That’s awesome to see you’ve had it since brand new. I wish I could say that about my trucks. I’m trying to fill a void in UA-cam about these OBS trucks and the proper way to maintain or work on them, and hopefully make it easier for people.
Subscribed Detailed video with high quality work. Most guys don’t get this in depth in “restoring/fixing” these obs issues so I appreciate you going the extra mile. Whats your sand blasting set up?
Got an 84 bronco that's gonna need this treatment soon. Not looking forward to the rust I'm about to uncover but I can't wait to get it cleaned up and resealed
I've watched this a few times now. This is a great place to use that mastercoat primer that i mentioned in an earlier video. Might also be a good place to add the ceramic sound deadening/heat shield additive they sell to the mastercoat. Im thinking about brush priming first w mastercoat slim to let it get into any seam openings, then seam sealing, priming again, then painting. Im replacing my rockers, cab outer floor, and the A&B pillar bases this week. While removing the interior, i noticed the padding under my vinyl floor was soaked. I had to watch this again to help figure out why. I mastercoated my front windshield frame and replaced the windshield a few months ago, so now im sure it's the firewall leaking. I couldn't understand why there were rocks coming out of the rusted out base of my A pillar. I guess it's really just blobs of that foam insulation you mentioned. Lol. D/S fender, door, hood and cowl are coming off tomorrow. Thanks again for the great video, Garrett.
You could literally go down a rabbit hole with coatings. That’s for sure!!!! I might look more into their products, I like the heat shield coating idea. I’m glad this video helped you out. And yes, the cowl is generally the culprit for leaks if the windshield has been ruled out. Generally the windshield leaks from above, not below as well.
@GarrettsOBSGarage yep. That's where my windshield was leaking. I had a kitchen garbage bag draped over the dash and radio when it rained. Lol Thanks again, my friend. Happy St. Patty's day! ✌️
Repair geek recently did a great comparison video on about 10 of the most popular coatings. Mastercoat was #1. I just tried to order some more on Friday, and it's out of stock. Should be available this week. It's says on mastercoats' website that because of repair geek's test and review, they are seeing unprecedented sales volume. Lol, their small family operation can't keep up with the demand. I guess that's a good problem to have for a small business. ✌️
Good morning Garrett, Perfect timing on this video for me. Thanks for taking the time to make this very informative video. This spring, i plan on doing this to my 97 f250hd supercab. Im wondering what you do during the reassembly about the heat shield on the firewall across the transmission tunnel and over the hvac box? Do you reinstall the original one, do you have a source for a new one, or do you make your own? I ordered my obs new in 97 and have taken care of it, so my heat shield is completely intact and in good shape, but my sons 01 superduty shield is damaged and partially missing. His hvac box actually has a hole melted thru from the heat off the turbo. Thanks for any info.
I always re use the shield. Sourcing new ones would be expensive if they are still available. OBS ones are not available at all and aren’t reproduced. The SD ones I’m sure follow the same pattern. The clips are able to be purchased if I’m not mistaken, but I haven’t sourced them personally. Which one is missing on the SD?
@GarrettsOBSGarage the one on the hvac box to the left of the tranny tunnel. On my obs, the heat shields underneath the cab are very rusted and under the bed are partially disintegrated. Another part that was impossible to get was the front brake splash/dust shields for the dana 50/60, but Jeff's bronco graveyard makes them now. Not a necessary part, but some people like everything 100% complete.
Ah. Those are notorious for rusting away. I haven’t found a source for those other than used. It’s nice to see some places are reproducing parts finally though.
Awesome video Garret, this was exactly what I was looking for, is it worth it/doable to remove all the pinch welds and reglue/pinch weld all the panels together better than what ford did or is just replacing the seam sealer enough?
That would be very difficult and time consuming!!!! Seam sealer is the best thing you can do and realistically, the only time you’d need to split a seam is if there is significant rust in the seam. Thank you! I’m glad the video helped!
I never understood the seam sealer glop they use on the cowl and firewall areas, it's more like a putty that just sits on the surface rather than a seam sealer that goes down like caulk and actually adheres to the metal. On the bright side the old crap is easy, yet gooey to remove.
jesus dude. like the steven king of youtube here. like 2 min describing the color of the sealer. and 6 min saying you took the cab off to fix it and you are going to put it back on.

I just have a little Venturi blaster. Nothing fancy. But gets the job done.

Just have to jump in and do it! Just don’t have a deadline. That way it’s done correctly!
@@GarrettsOBSGarage well said! I want it to last another 40 years,

That’s never a bad thing! Always good to help out a family run business. Especially if they are producing an excellent product.

To choose what is difficult all ones days, as if it were easy, that is faith.

What is the product name of the seam sealer you used? Don't see any reference>
It’s 3M branded seam sealer. I don’t remember which one exactly.
I never understood the seam sealer glop they use on the cowl and firewall areas, it's more like a putty that just sits on the surface rather than a seam sealer that goes down like caulk and actually adheres to the metal. On the bright side the old crap is easy, yet gooey to remove.
Yeah. It’s a strange material for sure!

This video didn’t go exactly how I wanted it to. I was pressed for time so I wasn’t able to video it exactly how I wanted to :/
