    Gman I bought a nearly new 2013 fjr1300a in 2013. It had 2832 miles on the odometer. Now we're close to 67,000 miles. I love this bike. I installed an aftermarket saddle and bar risers and a taller windscreen. I've done several trips the last of which was close to 8000 miles. I've found the secret to going long distances with as little fatigue as possible, and this is aside from having a comfortable bike, which the FJR is, but my secret is noise canceling earbuds so I can enjoy music or a book or anything you enjoy listening to. Bose has discontinued the wired noise canceling earbuds I use, but there's others. When you load that bike up and realize, 200 miles into your trip on an early morning, that you should have started doing this type of travel years ago, you'll also realize that the old bikes weren't very conducive to long travel. The FJR with shaft drive, heated grips and cruise control, spoils you quickly. Especially when you're on the highway and roll that throttle and feel the characteristic FJ / FJR mid-range power..... It still puts a smile on my face.
    Enjoy your ride Grumpy.....

      I always enjoy the rides like you. Did you see my other video of going camping? Once I got things unloaded, I didn't move the truck. I had more fun than one tank of gas on each, the FJR and the Waverunners.

    I bought a new FJR back in 2021. Really love it. I have > 12K miles on it now.
    I dropped it when I lost footing in a gravel parking lot while trying to back it up with the handlebars turned a few months after buying it.. Scratched the plastic pretty bad but I got it all repaired with insurance. After that I looked into trying to lower the seat height and bought a Corbin which made a HUGE difference (I love the Corbin seat).
    The other thing that I got that I really like is the OEM "touring" windshield. The touring screen adds 4 inches and really makes a difference if you are doing any distance riding. The nice thing is that in the down position it still gets out of the way and provides some air.
    Mine is Graphite black but I really like the blue that you got. Very nice!

    • @r.williamcomm7693
      @r.williamcomm7693 Рік тому +1

      Yes! Adding the taller windscreen to the a sport tourer really makes it a more comfortable bike IMHO. I like custom seats where I feel like I’m sitting “in” a bike rather than riding on top of it. 👍

      @MrGman129  Рік тому

      Did you install the lowering kit on yours? I have the seat in the low position. Sometimes my age and fitness makes me slide my shoe/boot on the bags. I don't like my scuffs.

      @aa7jc Рік тому +1

      @@MrGman129 No lowering kit. I need the ground clearance as I crest the top of my steep driveway into my garage. Just having the Corbin seat lowered my position adequately plus my riding boots give me a small boost.

      One thing I’ve found certainly at high speed on the German autobahn when I take my AE (ES) over from the UK is the extended screen used to bend back (fully up) and rub on the cast X assembly. To stop this I spaced out the middle fixing nylon bolt by two nylon washers and the top bolt by thicker nylon spacer. Do not get problem now and get clearance with the screen at high speed. Also made 1mm neoprene gasket to fit under the teardrops to stop them squeaking as they can rub on screen, the rubber stops this

    That menu emblem on your LCD screen and most of those control buttons are exactly the same as my Super Tenere 1200 - it's been the same from 2015 to now. Mine is a 2015 - not a negative because it's a pretty intuitive and easy system once you figure it out and remember. I like that Yamaha sticks with things that work and last a long time rather than joining ranks with BMW/KTM that seems to change everything every couple years.

      @@MrGman129 Years ago I had my BMW K75s sports tourer and with only a 29" inseam it was a little difficult too, but I dealt with it. If the kit just lowers the seat that's OK, but if you are lowering the suspension too, that may throw the whole handling characteristics off, so research this before making the change. Good luck.

      unfortunately out of the question - my strength, balance and stability just couldn't handle the bike. I bought a new 1985 Honda
      Nighthawk S way back when, and I absolutely loved it. It had
      shaft drive, automatic valve adjusters and an air cooled motor. In other words, it was virtually maintenance free. Fantastic machine. You will love it, promise you. Lots of bike for the money, easy to work on, parts are everywhere, very comfortable for its size. Reminds my my old CBR XX. This engine can go and go with no issues. Smooth transmission. Its a shame that Yamaha will not continue with them. Very good seller in the US. One advise to you, on hot days, cover the LCD display, if leaving her in a direct sunlight on a hot day. They do get damaged very quickly. If you see discoloration on the display, file a claim and it will be replaced.

    Wow! So incredible, did not know they are still in production! In Europe they are not available for few years already, and not popular (underrated) too. And it is funny, a lot of small parts are similar to much older models (e.g. fuel tank cap, foot pegs are the same as on mine Yamaha Fazer 8 2014).

    I've owned 3 FJRs (+ several other Yamaha bikes), and always wished for that 6th gear on the FJ. After touring Europe on the BMW K1600 with wife on board, I made the leap up to the Beemer. As much as I loved and defended my FJRs, the difference cannot be quantified, and I can say it was worth every penny in power, torque, comfort and quality. While I do miss the angular look and insane reliability of the FJ, there's no going back. Enjoy your new bike. I sure did.

    Congratulations!!! Just one quick tip, if this is your first Yamaha with their own case, in case you haven't done it already: When opening the side cases, push down on the key before turning it, otherwise you will bend it over time. I've bought mine with 20 000 miles on it, and the key is already bent. Super Tenere cases are bending the keys too!;)) Oh, and if you hold down the Menu button then there you can change things more precisely.

    I have 2016 with 52,000 miles. Lots of good things about the FJR, some bad. I am 6 ft, 160 lbs and ride 6000 mile cross country trips. I suggest getting Heli-bars (or other kits) to bring the handlebars further back for comfort. There is some minor adjustment you can make to the stock settings, but it’s not enough. Also I got a Lamm custom seat which is fantastic. The stock seat is terrible on your sit bones on long trips. I also put the touring windscreen on - it definitely helps during rain. Enjoy and safe riding.
