I had one, older model. Put 32K miles on it. Crazy fast if you wick it up right. Freight train torque. I toured from CA up to Washington, over to Montana, down to Idaho, over to Nevada, and back to CA. Rode from Boise to SF in one day. What an awesome bike. Still holds its own compared to anything.
I have this bike. Love the looks, sound and the blue colour. Just replaced the tyres on it and changed the lead acid battery to a lithium battery that is smaller, lighter and has more cold cranking amps. My one had to be recalled to fix the second gear fault but that was free as it was under warranty so all ok. It is a heavy bike so is great in a cross wind too. I am 6" foot 2" and I find it very comfortable on long all day trips. Great LED headlights. Good pannier luggage. I keep the adjustable windscreen down most of the time. I don't use the cruise control or heated grips much but it is there if you want it. Best bike I have ever had and I have had a lot of bikes. Highly recommended.
I had a 2010 FJR and rode it from Phoenix AZ along the PCH to Victoria BC (via the ferry from Port Angeles WA). Great ride and the bike didn’t miss a beat. Hope you enjoy the bike and stay upright

Just love the fact that you can run regular gas in that FJR ! Unlike some other sport touring bikes where you must use premium That’s over a dollar a gallon more in some places

On the other hand the last major update was in 2016 if i'm not mistaken so we shouldn't expect any major changes (beside color and even that 🙂) in the future.
All i have to say is the bike speaks for itself, fast, sporty, touring, comfort all rapped in one where as other makes if you want that you would have to purchase individual bikes, the Japanese makers know how to customers happy and excited and with a 6.6 gal. tank you can go a long way. Since I don't do much offroad I've decided to sell my Africa Twin and this is the bike that appeals to me more than any other. If I can sell my twin I'll be getting one!
I have both. A 2014 FJR ES and a 2017 Africa Twin non-DCT. Different tools for different rides. Living in Vermont, we have more unpaved roads than paved ones, and the ones that are paved are often pretty frost heaved. The AT is perfect for that stuff. But when I’m pointing the front wheel to somewhere far away, usually down south, the FJR is the mile eating machine. With a Russell Daylong seat and a set of highway pegs rolling off 7-800 mile days is no problem. Multiple Motorcycle Syndrome is not a disease I’m wanting a cure for.

Great video! I just picked up a 2024 FJR ES 1300, and like you I've owned many bikes and I work on them myself! I also own a 1990 Yamaha VMax 1200, and a Custom 1998 Suzuki 1500 LC. I'm beyond "The Mid Life Crisis" I'm 69 LOL. The 2024 is the same color as yours! My feedback on this Bike is: I was going to purchase a BMW GT 1600, but I decided on the FJR! Good move, not as expesive as the BMW, but I believe the Yamaha to be more reliable! I've owned all the Japenese brands including Yamaha snowmobiles, watercraft, and ATV's, and i swear by them! From riding the FJR (Still breaking it in) I'm very impressed with all of the features! Sport or Touring Mode, Cruise Control, Traction control, Integrated Braking, Ant-Lock braking, Heated Grips, Electric Windshield, Adjustable Handlebars, Seight height Adjustment, Adjustable Clutch and Brake Levers, LED Headlights that look around corners, full information screen including outside air temp, engine coolant temp, and electronically adjustable suspension. I'm not used to all of these goodies, but I'm liking them! The Bike rides like nothing I've ever ridden! It's smooth awesome power! It rides like The Perfect Motorcycle, corners beautifully, 6 Speed transmission is awesome! Be careful when you put it into "Sport Mode" it surprized me when I first gave it a slight twist of the throttle, the front wheel went airborne. I got a big kick out of that! LOL Enjoy the ride! @@garybaldwin1061 I've done Valve adjustment on my V Max @ 25K Miles, and other bikes I've had in the past whether they are "Shimmed or Screw type" going way back to my first bikes a 1974 Yamaha XS 650, and a 1975 Kawasaki 900 Z1-B, and typically in "Owner Manuals" in regard to Valve Clearance Adjustments they refer you to The Dealer.
Love the FJR but I'm concerned about the knee angle. I find after an hour or so in the saddle my old knees are in pain. How do you find the FJR in that regard?
Yeah you should sell the bike at the dealership. The salesman I dealt with has no clue about the bike. I must explained to more detail to make him understand. I finally ordered mine at the end of March and 2 months later I got mine. I plan to keep mine forever I guess. I like the suspension adjustments. It is like riding several different bikes. I use touring mode most of the time. SPORT mode is too much power. I use it occasionally for reason, but in stop and go or city, touring is best. Congratulations brother, you had made a right choice. Ride safe.
Loving my 2007 Deep Cherry Red FJR. You have to think about were you park before you park and also practice picking up in awkward spaces so you don't get stranded in the middle of no where. Tuned with power commander, exhaust and air filter for a top speed of 165 mph. I averaged over 110mph in the Texas desert only to get 28 mpg. Was going to go with the CP3 Tracer but when I test rode the bike I was disappointed in the power compared to the FJR. My next bike will be an FJR ES and thank you for making this informative recording.
Congrats on your new FJR! I have a GEN I, 2004, with 40,000 on the clock. Absolutely the best bike I have ever owned (and I currently own four). I have done MANY multi-state tours on this beast. She is comfortable, carry's a lot of cargo for long trips, fuel efficient, extremely reliable and wicked fast. Great in the twisty's and comfortable on long straights. I am upgrading to a new FJR very soon and will keep this one as a back-up bike.

I just bought one 2 days ago a "17 with 14k miles, mint. I like the fact it uses regular gas. And yea its super fun bike. Cruise control is super nice too. Stay safe man.
Another great thing about Yamaha's are the service intervals. Most of their bikes, FJR included, have long valve check intervals of 26,000 miles (42,000 kms). Took an FJR for a test ride a few years ago during Yamaha's Spring Demo days. The FJR felt like it was riding on rails, beautiful bike and on my shopping list for 2024. Congratulations on your new FJR. What a great bike. I think you may have picked up the last year, since they no longer sell them in Europe or Japan so my guess is it may be discontented here shortly also. BTW...if you went with a used FJR (pre-2016) it may have not had the 6 speed transmission which I'm sure is helpful on the highway. I'm sure with their past record of reliability, you will have that bike for many many years.

I’m on my second FJR. My first was 2005 that I rode to 100k miles, and then upgraded to a 2014 ES, which currently has 70k miles on it. I’ll probably never sell this bike. There were many improvements made between the 2005 First Gen and the 2014 3rd Gen. And having the Electronic Suspension is fantastic. Cruise control is something I didn’t think I needed, but have come to love. Fly by wire drive modes are nice as it makes riding smooth easier, or switch to sport for the hooligan rides. My First Gen was an ABS, but the 3rd Gen ABS is superior (panic situation tested). Aerodynamics and heat control is much better on the later model years. The sexy “ticket me red” of the 2014 has unfortunately lived up to its name a few times. But I’m getting older and slower and still enjoy riding it just as much. Having owned the First Gen, I knew right away what mods that *I* needed to make the bike all day, weeks at a time, comfortable: A custom seat from Russell Daylong, a set of bar risers from HeliBars, and a set of highway pegs to fit on my T-Rex crash bars make all the difference. I’m also tall, so the seat stays in the high position and I have a tall Cee Bailey wind screen on it, but I understand those are NLA. I’ve never had a bit of trouble with either of the two FJRs. Just rock hard reliable. 3rd valve check coming up, which will probably be the first adjustment required. I’ll do it myself. Not all that hard to do if you are at all mechanically inclined. And the regular 5k mile oil change services are easy peasy. By the way, I did order all the internal parts to install the 2016+ slipper clutch into my 2014. I like it, but it wasn’t earth shaking. I see no need for a 6th gear. That was mostly a marketing move by Yamaha. I wouldn’t come anywhere near redline in 5th gear at 155mph (which I’d never do) What do I need another gear for?
I've had mine for a few months now. I am 68 years on this awsome planet To make this bike complete- TFT screen and reactive cruise control. It would complete an other wise amazing motorcycle.
Hi I have question for you: when the engine is hot (normal driving temp), did you hear any difference in its engine sound when squeezing the clutch lever? For some reason, mine does give the strange sound, when squeezing it, the engine sounds smooth but when release it fully (in neutral), I can hear the engine sounds a little rough and vibrates. Is yours like that too? Mine is 2023 ES just like yours, we bought almost at the same time :) I took it to the dealer where I bought it from, they said it is normal which I do not think so. I called Yamaha, and they made a notation about my report. If yours sounds the same, then perhaps it is normal, although I do not like to hear/feel it when the engine runs. From cold to warm, no issues. Only when it is hot . Thank's.
I love Sport touring bikes. This thing is a beast; 144 hp, 154 mph top speed. I have ridden my FJ 09 for 4 years. 461 lbs wet with Arakpovic (sp?) racing exhaust, putting out about 120 hp. Not bad for a 3 cylinder, 798 cc motor! Beats the hell out of my former cruiser, the suspension is amazing! I'm 66 this year, and the 2024 is looking even more amazing!
I have a 2008 right now, Yamaha had a test ride event and I rode a 2021..... couldn't believe the refinements made over the years, and I LOVE my bike. The suspension improvements were the most noticeable, but overall it was almost a night and day difference. Very familiar, but new and exciting. After the test ride, I was kinda upset with riding mine home. 😮 Might be my next purchase....... anyone looking to buy a 2008 FJR?
i had 2 FJR gen 2 when i was in France and i'll probably buy a more recent one in the years to come, here in Canada, probably a 2015/2016 version. I haven't tried a Gen 3 yet but it looks like the improvement pretty much solved all the minor issues i had at that time. So yes there's not TFT screen but since i'm not planning on watching Netflix while riding i don't see the point. The missing 6th gear was a bit annoying in older versions but they changed this apparently
Ibougbt a 2004 FJR 1300 2000 miles ago. I've been riding Harley since 98 and bought this bike to ride while I rebuild my current Harley motor. Cost me less than the motors costing and let me tell you. I love this thing. If you're thinking about buying any FJR 1300. Do it
I'm curious as I've heard the seat is quite wide, did you lower yours or go anything to help you with the height/weight challenges? I've heard they're top-heavy and can easily be dropped, but I want one! I'm 5'9" with 30" inseam, not blessed with long legs. Had a Bandit 1250S and then a ZX-14R, but want something more comfortable but at LEAST 1000cc, preferably closer to 1200-1300. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
They do have a pretty wide seat and can be top heavy once your moving that seems to disappear you can adjust the seat height apart from this they are a fantastic motorcycle 🏍️ IV owned 2 FJRs an 06 model and a 012 the only difference being heated grips the 06 has 164 thousand kilometres and no problems I'm 65 in August and won't be selling TBH
I think dealerships would sell a lot more new bikes if they'd get rid of all the fees.thats why I'm looking for a good used one.out the door is over 20,000 for a brand new one.its nice but not that nice.im thinking I should be able to get 22 one like new with a couple thousand miles for 17 or less from an individual.thats 3 or 4000 difference For basically the same bike still under warranty.anyway dealerships still have brand new two year old bikes because of all the fees.
@@altec19 I have a Sargent seat on my 2007 FJR1300. It is very comfortable. Very slick looking seat. Does not have that “after market” look you see on many. Blends in perfectly with the bike’s lines. I have driven 3-4 hours on it with no issues and I’m an old guy (61).
I'm also 5'8 but with a 29" inseam, you have any trouble with stability at stops ? I'm currently riding a v star 1300 but want a different riding position and more fun in the twisties
Rumor has it 2024 is the last year for the FJR in America and it's already been discontinued in Europe. Too bad because the FJR is such a great bike. I should know as I'm on #2. If Yamaha could update the engine to meet Euro standards, add in a TFT screen, perhaps an IMU to get it to match the R1250RT but keep the price down, they'd have another winner. Me, I've got zero issues w/it in its current set-up but we've got to keep the kids entertained so more tech is required. The Tracer 9 GT is no substitute for the FJR!!!
How is it on long rides? I have a 2023 ninja sport touring and it's not very comfortable after about an hour and a half and have been considering a cruiser but would like to stay with the sport touring
I have a ‘19 FJR. I found the stock seat a little firm for long distances so I bought the Sargent seat and it’s far better and provides all-day comfort.
I'm debating between this and a new 2022 Tracer 9 GT. I think the 9 is all the power I'd need, and it's over 25% discounted. But man this FJR is hard to pass up. Fun fact, seems we might live in the same state. I've looked at TPM's website countless times this year, but I have several closer dealers with good stock, so I've not been yet.
Whoever said it's bulletproof is full of it.hammer on it at all and it WILL start ticking, knocking, rattling, using oil and eventually blow up.if you decide to try one anyway be prepared to COMPLETELY overhaul the front and rear suspension every 30,000 miles or so, do not red line it,ever, and get ready for 1,000 dollar valve adjustments etc.anyone with 100,000 miles on one has most likely doneMAJOR engine work and replaced lots and lots of miscellaneous parts.its not even bb gun proof.
You obviously have never owned the bike. Anyone that has owned the bike has the complete opposite opinion of you. It has the bullet proof rep because it has earned it since 2002. I know several people that have over 100k on their FJR and none have had any major repairs. You are nothing but a troll on UA-cam.
I have an 07 that I bought new. 69000 and change and it runs like it did the day I bought it. Man that 23 is an awesome looking bike. Would love it for all the advancements since 07 but there are other bikes out there . I'm torn!!

Read the sticker under the rear seat.91 OCTANE.
You shouldn't run anything with ethanol. But 87 is absolutely fine, it says in the owners manual. It says 91 RON under the seat, which is 87 octane.

In France and Europe, 2020 was the last year they have sold it, with the ultimate edition... due to the antipollution norms.

Turning 70 myself soon and have an '05 FJR. Did a 6000km circle tour of Lake Superior in May - so excellent! What a fantastic motorcycle! Stay safe 🙂

How is the engine heat, any vibrations, is it top heavy in parking lot maneuvering and any thing else you could disclose.

Congratulations on your new FJR. What a great bike. I think you may have picked up the last year, since they no longer sell them in Europe or Japan so my guess is it may be discontented here shortly also. BTW...if you went with a used FJR (pre-2016) it may have not had the 6 speed transmission which I'm sure is helpful on the highway. I'm sure with their past record of reliability, you will have that bike for many many years.

@@TobyGwinn Congrats. Seems like Yamaha has been pushing the new Tracer 9 GT+ more than the FJR but if you plan to do a lot of highway touring you couldn't have gotten a better bike. (From what I had been hearing, I was surprised to see the FJR still in the 2024 lineup here in the US. So happy you got one while you still could.) Wishing you many happy miles ahead.

I’m on my second FJR. My first was 2005 that I rode to 100k miles, and then upgraded to a 2014 ES, which currently has 70k miles on it. I’ll probably never sell this bike.
There were many improvements made between the 2005 First Gen and the 2014 3rd Gen. And having the Electronic Suspension is fantastic. Cruise control is something I didn’t think I needed, but have come to love. Fly by wire drive modes are nice as it makes riding smooth easier, or switch to sport for the hooligan rides. My First Gen was an ABS, but the 3rd Gen ABS is superior (panic situation tested). Aerodynamics and heat control is much better on the later model years. The sexy “ticket me red” of the 2014 has unfortunately lived up to its name a few times. But I’m getting older and slower and still enjoy riding it just as much.
Having owned the First Gen, I knew right away what mods that *I* needed to make the bike all day, weeks at a time, comfortable: A custom seat from Russell Daylong, a set of bar risers from HeliBars, and a set of highway pegs to fit on my T-Rex crash bars make all the difference. I’m also tall, so the seat stays in the high position and I have a tall Cee Bailey wind screen on it, but I understand those are NLA.
I’ve never had a bit of trouble with either of the two FJRs. Just rock hard reliable. 3rd valve check coming up, which will probably be the first adjustment required. I’ll do it myself. Not all that hard to do if you are at all mechanically inclined. And the regular 5k mile oil change services are easy peasy.
By the way, I did order all the internal parts to install the 2016+ slipper clutch into my 2014. I like it, but it wasn’t earth shaking. I see no need for a 6th gear. That was mostly a marketing move by Yamaha. I wouldn’t come anywhere near redline in 5th gear at 155mph (which I’d never do) What do I need another gear for?
I've had mine for a few months now. I am 68 years on this awsome planet To make this bike complete- TFT screen and reactive cruise control. It would complete an other wise amazing motorcycle.

Hi I have question for you:
when the engine is hot (normal driving temp), did you hear any difference in its engine sound when squeezing the clutch lever? For some reason, mine does give the strange sound, when squeezing it, the engine sounds smooth but when release it fully (in neutral), I can hear the engine sounds a little rough and vibrates. Is yours like that too? Mine is 2023 ES just like yours, we bought almost at the same time :) I took it to the dealer where I bought it from, they said it is normal which I do not think so. I called Yamaha, and they made a notation about my report. If yours sounds the same, then perhaps it is normal, although I do not like to hear/feel it when the engine runs. From cold to warm, no issues. Only when it is hot . Thank's.

I love Sport touring bikes. This thing is a beast; 144 hp, 154 mph top speed. I have ridden my FJ 09 for 4 years. 461 lbs wet with Arakpovic (sp?) racing exhaust, putting out about 120 hp. Not bad for a 3 cylinder, 798 cc motor! Beats the hell out of my former cruiser, the suspension is amazing! I'm 66 this year, and the 2024 is looking even more amazing!

I have a 2008 right now, Yamaha had a test ride event and I rode a 2021..... couldn't believe the refinements made over the years, and I LOVE my bike. The suspension improvements were the most noticeable, but overall it was almost a night and day difference. Very familiar, but new and exciting. After the test ride, I was kinda upset with riding mine home. 😮 Might be my next purchase....... anyone looking to buy a 2008 FJR?
i had 2 FJR gen 2 when i was in France and i'll probably buy a more recent one in the years to come, here in Canada, probably a 2015/2016 version. I haven't tried a Gen 3 yet but it looks like the improvement pretty much solved all the minor issues i had at that time. So yes there's not TFT screen but since i'm not planning on watching Netflix while riding i don't see the point. The missing 6th gear was a bit annoying in older versions but they changed this apparently
i have a 2004 fjr1300 it's a heat machine , i don't even think imma get another bike imma just get a newer one to get that heat fixed haha !
Ibougbt a 2004 FJR 1300 2000 miles ago. I've been riding Harley since 98 and bought this bike to ride while I rebuild my current Harley motor. Cost me less than the motors costing and let me tell you. I love this thing. If you're thinking about buying any FJR 1300. Do it

I'm curious as I've heard the seat is quite wide, did you lower yours or go anything to help you with the height/weight challenges? I've heard they're top-heavy and can easily be dropped, but I want one! I'm 5'9" with 30" inseam, not blessed with long legs. Had a Bandit 1250S and then a ZX-14R, but want something more comfortable but at LEAST 1000cc, preferably closer to 1200-1300. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
They do have a pretty wide seat and can be top heavy once your moving that seems to disappear you can adjust the seat height apart from this they are a fantastic motorcycle 🏍️ IV owned 2 FJRs an 06 model and a 012 the only difference being heated grips the 06 has 164 thousand kilometres and no problems I'm 65 in August and won't be selling TBH
In Belgium no more available, otherwise a candidate for me. But I opted for a R1200GS, another bike but lots op torque at very low RPM

I am thinking this bike maybe too high on the seat for a guy like me at 5"9". I like to flat foot a bike. What do you say.
I think dealerships would sell a lot more new bikes if they'd get rid of all the fees.thats why I'm looking for a good used one.out the door is over 20,000 for a brand new one.its nice but not that nice.im thinking I should be able to get 22 one like new with a couple thousand miles for 17 or less from an individual.thats 3 or 4000 difference For basically the same bike still under warranty.anyway dealerships still have brand new two year old bikes because of all the fees.

Off the top of my head my 18 with a 6-speed runs just about 4k rpm at 80. Engine has a 9k redline.

@@altec19 I have a Sargent seat on my 2007 FJR1300. It is very comfortable. Very slick looking seat. Does not have that “after market” look you see on many. Blends in perfectly with the bike’s lines. I have driven 3-4 hours on it with no issues and I’m an old guy (61).
The FJR is one of the best bikes ever made. I’ve got an ‘06 AE version. The shaft drive is impeccable.

I'm also 5'8 but with a 29" inseam, you have any trouble with stability at stops ? I'm currently riding a v star 1300 but want a different riding position and more fun in the twisties
There are two seat heights through the adjuster so lower setting may help.
Rumor has it 2024 is the last year for the FJR in America and it's already been discontinued in Europe. Too bad because the FJR is such a great bike. I should know as I'm on #2. If Yamaha could update the engine to meet Euro standards, add in a TFT screen, perhaps an IMU to get it to match the R1250RT but keep the price down, they'd have another winner. Me, I've got zero issues w/it in its current set-up but we've got to keep the kids entertained so more tech is required. The Tracer 9 GT is no substitute for the FJR!!!
How is it on long rides? I have a 2023 ninja sport touring and it's not very comfortable after about an hour and a half and have been considering a cruiser but would like to stay with the sport touring
I have a ‘19 FJR. I found the stock seat a little firm for long distances so I bought the Sargent seat and it’s far better and provides all-day comfort.
I'm debating between this and a new 2022 Tracer 9 GT. I think the 9 is all the power I'd need, and it's over 25% discounted. But man this FJR is hard to pass up.
Fun fact, seems we might live in the same state. I've looked at TPM's website countless times this year, but I have several closer dealers with good stock, so I've not been yet.

It’s the RPM’s that matter when breaking in, he keeps it under 3,000 rpm…….redline on these is 9,000 rpm
And on the 7th day God created the FJR1300.

Whoever said it's bulletproof is full of it.hammer on it at all and it WILL start ticking, knocking, rattling, using oil and eventually blow up.if you decide to try one anyway be prepared to COMPLETELY overhaul the front and rear suspension every 30,000 miles or so, do not red line it,ever, and get ready for 1,000 dollar valve adjustments etc.anyone with 100,000 miles on one has most likely doneMAJOR engine work and replaced lots and lots of miscellaneous parts.its not even bb gun proof.
You obviously have never owned the bike. Anyone that has owned the bike has the complete opposite opinion of you. It has the bullet proof rep because it has earned it since 2002. I know several people that have over 100k on their FJR and none have had any major repairs. You are nothing but a troll on UA-cam.

I have an 07 that I bought new. 69000 and change and it runs like it did the day I bought it. Man that 23 is an awesome looking bike. Would love it for all the advancements since 07 but there are other bikes out there . I'm torn!!
