do you realise all the images you choose in your videos have pretty much zero diversity, just a sea of white faces?
      Why is this?

J H read what the channel is about, "to convey in a clear manner ideas put forth by the greatest thinkers in history in order to supply the world with more wisdom, empower the individual, and to promote social freedom."
Historically, the ideals of individual liberty and social freedom are a unique property of western civilization, which is predominantly Caucasian. I'm assuming that the creator is selecting art that best depicts the ideas being expressed. Naturally, artwork from western society will be portrayed in likeness to the people of that culture. I doubt that the creator's use of art is racially motivated and more about being historically accurate. Besides, to be racially diverse for the sake of diversity is incinguent to the ideas being expressed here.

I have just finished a book called "the courage to be disliked" which basically described Adler's theories. I think it was one of the most illuminating books I have ever read. I didn't know about Adler's theories and I think that everything that I've read about what he said seems so simple yet so true. It's very interesting, I'll definitely continue to read about him.

haha - if one believes that all souls are not created EQUAL. Inferior and superior are cultural constructs - or likely bad english translation - I would guess. We just want to do better . We want to learn, to grow and do as well as we would like to, or we do not very well at that. That doesn't mean it's something wrong - it's normal.

@John Hurley If you are a better hunter, but exist in a society and culture that does not value hunting as a useful skill, such as living in urban New York City, your superiority means nothing and is more considered a neat hobby. Culture is the context where superiority and inferiority are decided. If you were a better hunter way back in the day you weren't superior, you simply survived.

I loved the video, just discovered the channel! However I missed something; Adler's theory also confirms that all our problems have an interpersonal origin. Inferiority or superiority complexes both come from comparison and/or our relation with other people, and the vertical relationships we build.
Also he talks about how we can only find happiness when we are able to confirm our value in the society. "The courage to be happy" by Fumitake Koga really helps understanding Adler's legacy :)

I think the video didnt emphasis an important point from Adler. That by doing safeguarding or distancing behaviour, you are doing it to achieve your goals. For example you are purposefully procrastinating to fulfil the idea that "I am smart" and it is this problem "procrastination" that draws me back, while the harsh reality is even if you tried your hardest you might still fail and perform worse than others.

I think in losing God and religion many compensate with outlandish and bombastic self-ideals. I know I have.
Not knowing what to do with ones life or how to live it we look for some extreme that once achieved can put us above common human worry while simultaneously being so un-achievable that it saves us from actual real action and moral considerations.

I'm an athiest as well and very fortunate to be an artist, my ideals are attainable and part of reaching those goals is exciting and therapeutic as well so when I'm not pushing myself to an action such as painting or drawing, the action is pulling itself towards me. Strangely enough, I didn't really consider morality until I went to prison, years later, I took two morals and ethics courses in college. Either way, I was always compelled to do what I felt was right, I only did the contrary because there was some other type of benefit, monetary or social, not because I didn't feel like I didn't need to, being an athiest.

I never lost god, because I never had it, it was impressed upon me by adults who didn't even have god simply because they couldn't prove the existence of god. In ridding myself of those fantasies, I learned how to deal better with reality, I'm more sure of and know more about myself than ever, particularly without the crutch of religious beliefs or the belief in god, karma, astrology, spirituality, etc; I'm very comfortable living without any of it.

Sometimes people who used the excuse, I haven't achieved more because something outside my control is preventing me from doing so, are not lying. For example, if a politician with power doesn't want you to get a job in the city, where the politician lobbies and have power, you will never get a job. The amazing thing will emerge, if a person with hurdles in all directions, achieves what they said he can't. And they will wonder, there are millions of people in this city, freed from our hurdles, they can't even do half of what he has accomplished. Impressive.

The more I watch these videos the more I'm convinced that there's one fundamental choice in life.
    Boredom or Sufferring
    Cowardice or Courage
    Happiness is for the fortunate.

    • @Ikaros23
      @Ikaros23 Рік тому

Happiness as most people understand it don`t exist. Human emotions are constantly changeing. And alot of things that gives us joy will also give us alot of suffering. We can choose to some degree to not exaggerate to pain/suffering that is a part of life. But to avoid it is impossible. And life is highly unfair in the amount of pain it inflicts on it`s individuals. This insight can give some comfort, even in extreme suffering. I talk from experience, i have lost my entire family to addiction ( both my parents where addicts). And all my grand parents are dead ( im only 39). We can learn to adapt, and to choose to learn courage in the face of adversity. The default mode is to choose " status quo". But when life changes, and the " storms" come. We can use our knowledge as a form of " Anker" to protect us from beeing dragd at sea... But we can`t stop the " storm". And when we see that the storm goes over, we get some relief.
But the brutal truth is that we are made to survive. Not to be happy. The " Art" is to cultivate a mindset that is not shameing us for our own nature. And to accept human nature "as it is".

7:29 Our self ideal may be overly perfectionist or too reliant on the things mentioned in the video.
However I feel we don't have a consistent well articulated, unambiguous and measurable self ideal. For eg if we want to be rich but we never take the little step and answer questions as to how much should you be saving or earing in the coming month, year in order to reach a level of income, neither do we take the necessary steps or look back and audit the activity over time

The inferiority complex, the playing the victim complex, the external locus of control syndrome, the family black sheep with the family scapegoat personality disorder. The identified patient - also called the “symptom-bearer” or “presenting problem” - may display unexplainable emotional or physical symptoms, and is often the first person to seek help, perhaps at the request of the family.

    • @Ikaros23
      @Ikaros23 Рік тому

Neglect and abuse from living in a dysfunctional family dynamic creates not just trauma in the brain, but is also psychosomatic. That is the trauma creates real damage in the body. So it is explainable. The problem is often that the victim of the abuse is so brainwashed that they don`t even know that what they have experienced is abuse. So they think that there is some other form of dissorder. And as you say if the family even want`s them to seek help this can be the ressult of gaslighting. That is they are brainwashed to think that they`re " reaction" to the " actions" of the toxic family is the problem. When the reality and the truth is that the narcissist and their enablers is the problem.
The hard part is to not just see the truth. But also that the next step useing the " locus of control", is a break with the toxic family. But most often the victim ( scapegoat), is to brainwashed and manipulated into the role of the " inferior complex". That the damage on the brain is so hard that they can`t see the truth " as it is". That is that the narcissist is to blame. And that the scapegoat do have the power to change their own life. And can take accountability for their own future. And accept that they can`t change the past. Or the narcissist or their "servants"
A remix from the film " The Matrix". See the truth, that there " is no family". That is the persons in the toxic family dynamic are only actors. Who have never done their tasks as they should. Because they where consumed by their own " fake self image". That is consumed by their own superiority complex and inferiority complexes.

Points are valid but not all can apply today. The dynamic of life has changed a bit since his time.
You don't get the privilege to be judged by only your village or city, but judgement from a planet.
Having the space, and time to reflect. I mean besides locking yourself inside a closet for 10 min.
Most of existence is "pitiful", period. Few of us are unremarkable until death, when our names are carved into stone.
The degree of the kneeling before these old timers is a bit excessive. Most of them lived in a time where the average person could not read, and write. I would have been the fastest swimmer in my class if my pesky peers didn't have legs

I want to ask the presenter,
    Have you been skydiving?
For me that is a very dreadful thought, and I chose it as I feel it would be one of the most magnificent things to do, but the sense of terror I imagine when even thinking of it really makes me almost repulsed. One day I want to turn the terror I would experience, into excitement and thrill, through courage
I can only imagine the courage it would take for some men, and for some no courage at all, just pure instinct to dive into a pure perception-bending experience (people of this kind change our world)
My fear of heights is intense, I work at heights installing high rise glass panels, and am okay with it, but roller coasters and huge slides at water parks I cannot do. As a man. The sensation of falling at high speed restricts me from thinking clearly at all and I’m consumed by fear
I need to rid myself of this, the benefit to my life would be of such a grand scale... I’m trying exposure therapy very soon, indoor 20m rock climbing, with upside down rock climbing on the ceiling, going to climb up and just let go and fall, to let myself see it’s not bad to risk. To teach myself that and rewire my fucked up brain. And get into high speed rides that stay relatively low.. I’m hoping it helps me learn to live
Sorry for this long message, I feel like I may be able to reboot myself and stop my regrets, and LIVE marching forward! Thank you and wish me luck haha

Hey I just wanted to tell you, I felt the same way 14 years ago. Continuously forcing myself to exposure of heights (and many other things) led me to skydiving, rock climbing and now I fly gliders for a hobby (19750 ft above sea level is my record). Flying is fun. Although I still get scared of bungy jumping. So the fear never goes away, but the sense of control increases.
