Hi there, Thank you very much for this video @PsychodynamicPsychology it was very informative and I wish you all the best with your continuing studies!
I have just discovered the Adlerian theory myself and I realized that he really voices a few of my thoughts and gives a fresh and new perspective !! I would definitely love to learn more and also enjoy reading „the courage to be disliked“ (heavily based on Adlerian Psychology)
Thank you so much for your kind words :) Yes, there are a few things in my pipeline. There will be a website, blog, some fun freebies and eventually courses coming 🙈😋
Thank you so much for your comment! It. is. so. fascinating! I can't stop finding new mind-blowing theories in the psychodynamic tradition that keep me on my toes 😉
What a delightful analogy. I am really enjoying all of your videos on Adler, who is so often overlooked. I have just subscribed to your channel, so this is a generic response to everything I have watched so far. I think (I am a lay person) that Adler has an understanding of human nature which Freud does not. I must admit that I have not read any Jung. Thank you for breaking down Adler's meanings so well. His translations into English are sometimes a little confusing, especially his use of 'horizontal' and 'vertical'. I have heard it said, even by academics, that Adler was obsessed with power. I think that your interpretation (and indeed I think he says so himself) is that a person's idea of self-worth is what motivates them, is more accurate. Thank you also for breaking down the German words. I am an English-speaker and struggle with them. Your spoken English is excellent, by the way. Regards, Bob McGowan.
Bob, thank you so much for your comment! Thank you for your kind words, that means a lot. The reason I like to study many different psychodynamic thinkers is because I feel they all add a piece of the puzzle. Adler and Freud saw very different demographics as their patients and certainly their own struggles and upbringing played into the theories they developed (hence maybe why Adler focused that much on power?). I wish you all the best! Alina
Found myself here after reading the book “the courage to be disliked” keep up the good content 🙏 I wonder though why Adler is not well known in western world ?
Thank you so much for your kind words, Hasan :) I think that for most people Adler always remained in the shadow of Freud and Jung, who accumulated more popularity than Adler ever did. Freud as the founder of psychoanalysis had a huge following from the beginning, and Jung's ideas in particular have gather more interest in the "new-age" community recently. I think the best thing about Adler is also the thing that keeps him from being truly popular: he advocates for taking responsibility. You can't blame it on your parents. Unfortunately - and this is a great detriment to society in my eyes - taking responsibility seems not too popular these days. With victim and cancel culture on the rise it will be harder to engage in a different (and more effective) way of changing your life. Good news is that (at least in Germany) we still have institutes that train future psychotherapists precisely in Adlerian therapy :) So at least this approach and knowledge won't get lost. Best wishes ☘️
@@PsychodynamicPsychology appreciate long answer, I’m also learning that Adler wasn’t interested in being popular himself other then putting his ideas out and also Freud told his followers to discredit Adler , weird 🤔 yeah that’s also another proof that people are lazy 😀

Hey, rly cool that you explain Adlers theory . I heard the first time from Adler in the book ``Du musst nicht von allen gemocht werden`` ``The Courage To Be Disliked``. The past happend and now i cant do ther anything about it, but now i can do things and only now i can do things :)
I did! I wasn't feeling proud on lots of my old videos and didn't like the exaggerated tone I had for most of them. So I decided to take them down. I'm currently figuring out a way to re-edit and put together all of the scripts to re-record them :) So hopefully the content will be back soon in an improved format and more authentic tone.
@@PsychodynamicPsychology I actually thought they were a great summary and highlighted the key points in an succinct manner. There isn’t much Adler content out there on UA-cam so I hope they come back online (even if In an improved format). I actually shared the playlist with a a friend a few weeks back then was confused when the link stopped working! 😄
Since I've heard about Alfred Adler psychology, I started to ask myself why is he so underated if compared with Freud and Jung (both massively known)? Here in Brazil has a lot of psychologists and I never heard of even one who aplies Adler knowledge, most and only Lacan, Jung, Freud, Winnicott...
I've also heard that Brazil seems to have a much more "classical" psychoanalytic scene going. So interesting! I guess that Adler was leaning a lot towards what is now humanistic thinking. Plus, back in the day (and unfortunately still today some) psychoanalysts can be incredibly dogmatic.
@@PsychodynamicPsychology yeah, really unfortunate there are still dogmas inside science. But thanks to people like you, I hope this knowledge gets recognised for it's huge value to our society, specially in this days, I feel like we are thirst for this kind of psychology, which BTW I loved the "perennial" designation.. that's is how it should be, right? I saw other videos too and I think you are doing a great job in pro of mental (and general) health, keep going! : )
Thank you for your comment 😊 there will be quite some videos coming January about using psychodynamic theory for self-discovery, getting unstuck, and self-actualisation. I hope you’ll enjoy those! Take care 🍀
These are really nice videos of yours, keep it up! The last years i'm turning more into psychology and these days i wanted to study about Adler's work, so i guess you're helping me in my way to superiority hehe. But I have a question for you (and for mr. Adler haha): You said it's not the environment but our fiction that shapes our strive. What if our fiction is shaped by our society; Have you ever thought about it; Just food for thought hehe
Hi 😊 Thanks for your comment! I have indeed thought about it and just recently read about the importance of culture when considering neurosis in Karen Horney's book "The Neurotic Personality of Our Time" (didn't enjoy that book as much as her others btw). She writes, for example: "In fact the cultural conditions not only lend weight and color to the individual experiences but in the last analysis determine their particular form. It is an individual fate, for example, to have a domineering or a "self-sacrificing" mother, but it is only under definite cultural conditions that we find domineering or self-sacrificing mothers, and it is also only because of these existing conditions that such an experience will have an influence on later life" (Introduction, p. viii). According to Adler your fictional goal is supposed to alleviate you from your feeling of inferiority. But of course, also what is considered inferior or superior can vary not just by the individual but also by society/culture. It is important, if not simply interesting, to know how culture could have impacted the way in which you perceive goals to be worthwhile or desirable. But then it's up to you to decide if and how you want to change that in your own life. Best wishes 🍀
In the earlier parts of the video you stated that Adler "focused much more on the future than the past" which is false. Adler's concern was always on the now. The present. It was never about "where we're headed" but where we are and how we can live it fruitfully. In Adlerian psychology, this future you miscommunicated is one's "purpose". Purpose, in this case, is defined as a mean's for an individual to "contribute to others" (I'll assume you're familiar with this) and a well of encouragement. Though this might not be that helpful considering the age of this video as you have most likely developed your knowledge, I hope it communicates some amount of insight.
The problem I see with Adler is that very dangerously can instigate Suicidal Tendencies in depressed individuals. As you can rationalize your goals as such, while using the “past doesn’t exist” as Adler puts it and that your life is always “complete”… IF you are severely depressed or anxious; I do not recommend you reading Adler! (NOR the courage to be disliked and the courage to be happy!
Hello ma'am , Good morning Ma'am you recommended me "the courage to be disliked" , and I found it really really helpful. Could you please recommend me another book maaam 🙏
I am interested in self improvement self actualisation. I find your videos very helpful wrt self realisation better awareness of self etc. You said ma'am for starter this book is good now I have completed this amazing book, I want to read more of such worthy books .
If you're up for something that's a bit more challenging, I'd suggest Karen Horney's "Neurosis and Human Growth - The Struggle toward Self-Realization". I'm curious to hear what you think about it!
Hi there. Thank you so much for sharing this video. I am also doing my bachelor in Psychology at the moment. I love your detail and clear Adlerian Psychology. Is there anyway we can connect? I am currently doing my assignment on Individual Psychology . Thanks
Thank you for your kind comment, I'm glad it was helpful 😊Amazing that you learn Individual Psychology at university. If you need extra information for your assignment, books are a much greater help than me (I would definitely not consider myself an expert on Adlerian Psychology). For a fun read there is "The Courage to Be Disliked", for a more academic read there is "The Individual Psychology of Alfred Adler" by Ansbacher & Ansbacher, and online you might find some good information on www.adlerpedia.org. Best of luck 🍀
On what topic exactly? On Adler I know no other books suitable for beginners. But you might want to try reading Adler's originals, he's much more readable than Freud or Jung.
Thanks a lot...M'am....it is very informative....it will definitely help me in my upcoming interview... still I want to know more about... individuality...and personality... could you please do that for me... I will be forever grateful to you...!
Thank you for your kind words 😊I'll finally upload a new video later today with a book recommendation that might help you - otherwise you can always check out the playlist of all my videos about Alfred Adler on my channel ;) This is also a good free resource for more academic information: www.adlerpedia.org/ Best wishes 🍀
There is the sequel "The Courage to Be Happy" by the same authors if you prefer a light and fun read. If you're interested in a more academic approach, there is "The Individual Psychology of Alfred Adler - A Systematic Representation In Selections From His Writings" by Ansbacher & Ansbacher.
What a coicidence, I have started diving into Kohut's thinking actually. I started reading "Restoration of the Self" but he just dives in knee-deep into heavy terminology right away - so I have some secondary reading to do before I can fully appreciate this one. Do you have a good introductory book that you can recommend?
@@PsychodynamicPsychology I would recommend you read his earlier 'Analysis of the Self' before reading the Restoration of the Self', this is because he gives more detail about his ideas concerning areas like the vertical and horizontal split. Kohut allows for a Freudian drive structural guilty man view of conflict because he views sexual and aggressive drives as breakdown products of a vulnerable depleted sense of self and self value. He views these drives and their structures as compensatory attempts to shore up a loss of self esteem. To this extent he is quite close to Adler who also views such phenomena as secondary attempts to deal with inferiority. There are a number of good Kohutian books (Kohut wasn't the greatest writer though) My favorites are; Allen M. Siegal 'Heinz Kohut and the Psychology of the Self', Philip F. D. Rubovits-Seitz 'Kohut's Freudian Vision', Miriam Elson Self Psychology in Clinical Social Work', 'Using Self Psychology in Psychotherapy' edited by Helene Jackson' also Kohut's Chicago Institute Lectures are very well edited and were given during the period between 'Analysis of the Self' and 'Restoration of the Self' they are very well edited and quite comprehensible. Just to add it may be best to start with Allen Siegal's book before reading Analysis of the Self since it is the clearest overview of Kohut's thought I know of. ' Keep up the great work.
Wow. Thank you so much! This is an incredibly valuable overview, it's so kind of you to share your extensive knowledge. I deeply appreciate it and now I'm even more excited for my week off next week to have time to properly dive into this. I'll start with Allen Siegal's book then. Thank you again and best wishes.

Did you delete your playlist for Adler? I can’t find it anywhere, the other videos 😢
Thanks!
Thank you for your contribution 😊
Thank you
Welcome!
Thank you so much 😊 I’ll do my best to add helpful things and preserve the truly perennial wisdom that helped me so much myself 😌
Drawn by your very calm, approachable lecturing style 👍
Thank you for your kind words!
Hello
Would like to know if you take classes for beginners
Hi! Do you mean whether I give classes in Individual Psychology? At this point I don't.
May ask I why the personality is united and self-consistent in Adler's Theory is way too positive?
Thank a lot, i follow you, do more vdo about Adler's theory. how to apply Adler with life, etc.
As you can rationalize your goals as such, while using the “past doesn’t exist” as Adler puts it and that your life is always “complete”…
IF you are severely depressed or anxious; I do not recommend you reading Adler! (NOR the courage to be disliked and the courage to be happy!

Hi Alina, so what are your thoughts on non-dual awareness?
I don't know anything about non-dual awareness and, therefore, have no thoughts about it.
@@PsychodynamicPsychology Ok, all the best to you. Thanks for making videos. I learned a lot from them.
Thank you, I appreciate your kind words!
Is there any way/medium to talk to you...?
Thanks
Thank you so much once again for your generosity, Amanda!
I love you…..nothing more nothing less
Hello ma'am , Good morning
Ma'am you recommended me "the courage to be disliked" , and I found it really really helpful.
Could you please recommend me another book maaam 🙏
I'm glad to hear that! Depends on what you are interested in?
I am interested in self improvement self actualisation. I find your videos very helpful wrt self realisation better awareness of self etc.
You said ma'am for starter this book is good now I have completed this amazing book, I want to read more of such worthy books .
If you're up for something that's a bit more challenging, I'd suggest Karen Horney's "Neurosis and Human Growth - The Struggle toward Self-Realization". I'm curious to hear what you think about it!
@@PsychodynamicPsychology sure maaam I will definitely read it and will catch you soon 🙏 thank you 🙏
Could you please tell me what are the other books to read that can be easily understood by a beginner..
Like
The courage to be disliked.
Thanks
On what topic exactly? On Adler I know no other books suitable for beginners. But you might want to try reading Adler's originals, he's much more readable than Freud or Jung.
Ok adlers books please
Understanding Human Nature - Adler
Please tell. About siblings rivelery
I'll try to make a video about it later this year!
Have you got any university degree in psychology ?
Yes, I have a Masters of Science degree in Psychology focusing on Clinical and Health Psychology.

new subscriber here..
So nice to have you here!
Hii ma'am
You have to look up Milton H Erickson the sage of the desert American therapist. He could cure a person in one session.
I'm familiar with him - although those story sound a bit too good to be true ;)
Are there any other good books on this philosophy other than the courage to be disliked?
There is the sequel "The Courage to Be Happy" by the same authors if you prefer a light and fun read. If you're interested in a more academic approach, there is "The Individual Psychology of Alfred Adler - A Systematic Representation In Selections From His Writings" by
Ansbacher & Ansbacher.
@@PsychodynamicPsychology awesome thank you for the recommendation
@@Elijah-fc3ex You're welcome
Great video but if you read and understand Heinz Kohut's psychology of the Self you can be an Adlerian, a Jungian and a Freudian.
@@PsychodynamicPsychology You're welcome and keep making the great videos-hopefully you'll do one on Kohut.
It’ll take me a while but you got me really interested in him! Thank you for that.
