“Depression is like a woman in black. If she turns up, don’t shoo her away. Invite her in, offer her a seat, treat her like a guest and listen to what she wants to say.” Carl Jung. We feel down sometimes. And to face our emotional wounds is one of the most difficult lessons in life, I think. Instead of treating negative feeling like an enemy, it could be better to be kind, open and 'friendly' to depression, like the way we treat a friend. Because negative feeling reminds us that there is something wrong in life so that we need to aware, accept, and change. It sounds like what a true friend may tell us.
I think the problem lies in that we don’t want to listen and follow the advise of this friend…but it’s much more complex than this as we don’t always have enough information or experience and challenge it by changing the variables…..I have the hardest time conveying my thoughts to language…..
The process of individuation is a life long process. I have been studying Jung since the mid 80's and feel like I have just reached a new plateau in this process...
My individuation happened about a week ago. It was not a life long journey of introspection and self discovery. It was a singular moment It may have been 1 hour or 3 days but in that time new neural pathways were opened and I saw my true self. My life flashed before eyes, every interaction was seen from the 3rd person from a completely non-bias view. I hope everyone gets to experience this one day. Like waking up in a nightmare. I've had a curse my whole life and I broke free. I'm aware now, but even though I'm conscious I can't help but act the way I do. Living in a hell that you created. -The Malignant Narcissist
Our experiences in life shape us in ways which we don't really understand, at least not intuitively. So the process of individuation and figuring out how these processes work is the most important thing we could do for ourselves...
Jung explains that you can't escape individuation. It's not something you do, ita something your doing, conscious and unconscious. I'm not disagreeing with you
*I'm pretty familiar with Jung's work and I gotta say I've never seen someone explain Jung in such a concise and accurate way. This shows you have really understood his work. Bravo*

Time of writing 5:10am: I feel as though you have two choices, like cleaning your room, one can either choose to clean the mess as it comes by addressing and confronting your as flaws you notice them in the hopes of always being the closest they can to your true self or, in the same way as you may let your room become cluttered and leave it for long enough that you ignore it and act as if it is perfect, a fake identity is formed and can be utilised to reach a certain goal or achieve a certain thing in a more efficient way than the true self. In this case a big clean may offer more of an advantage as you can have a psychological rebirth once this milestone is hit. Sometimes we must utilise the ego to do something the true self does not want.

As someone who's studied Carl Jung's theories for years i can tell you that this is a great summary of it and the images make it very easy to understand for people who are unfammiliar with it. However i do need to warn people that if one decides to embark on the individuation journey it needs to be done with the aid of a psychologist as it can be extremely dangerous and cause absolut chaos in a person's life and shake the very core of their being. The chaos is part of the process and you need to be equiped and assisted to go through it otherwise the consequences on youself can be as worst as getting trapped in an internal hell for as long as you can sustain it.
One thing i have learnt from Jung or any other Psychologist or even Spiritual mentor is that Acceptance takes much less energy than resistance. Once you accept the thought it's like a Truce and Peace happens automatically. Only then you can move forward with healing.
I'm halfway through Jung's autobiography right now. This is amazing that you released this video right now. I swear after watching your other videos on some of the great minds that have walked the earth I was wondering if there was one on Jung. Coincidences that make me feel like I'm doing what I should be.
@Baconator 1 And what is it though? Now I only dare to say that when it happens, it's connected to something meaningful. This topic confuses me sooo much I swear. I agree with paying attention to it and it increasing 10fold because some time back I let it guide my life for like 1-2 years. And I swear sometimes I could predict the future but I was too afraid of it and I let it behind because I thought I was going crazy. Looking back in that period of time I was almost crazy, as in acting out extremely different than what conventional humans do. It was the moment I decided consciously to explore my inner world. I could predict things in the outside world. I will give you just one example that comes from the top of my head. I was walking outside and there was a lamp post. this lamp post had a commercial on it and a phone number . i take a look at that phone number and my mind goes "that phone number looks a lot like John's" (fake name) and I didn't care about it and moved on with my life. i went somewhere. when i returned home, on the way back I met that person, and I didn't meet them in a long time. Also, sometimes, on top of everything else, I had these moments where this kind of prediction would appear inside me and after the initial thought like before - "that phone number looks a lot like John's" my mind would perceive the fact that there is something that will happen due to this. And it did. It's like double inception.
"...Man's task is to become conscious of the content that press upward from the unconscious.. as far as we can discern, the sole purpose of man is to kindle a light in the darkness of mere being". - Carl Jung POWERFUL 😤

I'm studying the unconscious in my philosophy class. Having a visual aspect on the question helps me understand the different connections between the conscious and the unconscious (that can be quite hard to visualise and summarize because studying how the mind works is not an easy task). But you did a great job! Thank you. I look forward to reading some of Jung's work.
Thank you for this masterful summary! Excepting who we really are actually allows us to realize what we can and can not be. As a generation of dreamers and high-flyers we need to detach from our egos and start working on what's here right now, fixing issues within ourselves (i.e. our shadows) and building strong connections with our families. After all Jung was not only one of the fathers of psychology but also a father to five children...
Beautiful summary of Jung's analytical psychology. This type of content is needed badly now when so many of his theories often obscured by academia or exploited by opportunistic self-help gurus. and invites us to accept it for what it is: just a simple but largely hidden-in-plain-sight observation of the nature and structure of human awareness and psyche.
I first discovered Jung’s work a couple years ago. All of his ideas on the psyche make so much sense to me. I could completely alone in that idea but reading King, Warrior, Magician, Lover: I found so much work for myself in both the immature archetypes and the mature. No doubt, it has made me a better man.
Carl Jung, the Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, explored the realms of the unconscious and the collective unconscious, delving into the depths of the human psyche. While Jung did not specifically employ Kabbalah in his work, some of his concepts can be explored from a Kabbalistic lens, particularly when related to the symbolism of the Hebrew letters Shin (שׁ), Psi (Ψ), and Phi (Φ). 1. Shin (שׁ) - Symbol of Divine Fire and Transformation: In Kabbalistic thought, the Hebrew letter Shin is associated with fire and divine light. It symbolizes the transformative and purifying power of divine energy. From a Jungian perspective, the symbolism of fire can be related to the transformative process of individuation-the journey towards wholeness and self-discovery. Jung's concept of individuation involves integrating the unconscious aspects of the psyche with conscious awareness, leading to a deeper understanding of the self and the realization of one's true nature. The transformative process of individuation is akin to the spiritual transformation represented by the divine fire of the Shin, burning away illusions and leading to spiritual growth and enlightenment. 2. Psi (Ψ) - Symbol of Psychic and Spiritual Phenomena: In Jungian psychology, the symbol of Psi (Ψ) is often used to represent psychic and spiritual phenomena. Jung explored the realm of the collective unconscious, the repository of universal symbols and archetypes shared by humanity. Psi can symbolize the connection between the individual psyche and the collective unconscious, representing the potential for psychic abilities, intuition, and spiritual insights. From a Kabbalistic lens, the concept of Psi can be related to the Hebrew letter Shin and its association with divine intuition and spiritual insights. The Shin represents the divine fire of divine wisdom, which illuminates the path to higher consciousness and deeper spiritual understanding. 3. Phi (Φ) - Symbol of the Golden Ratio and Divine Harmony: The concept of Phi (Φ) or the Golden Ratio involves a divine proportion found in nature and art. In Jungian terms, the Golden Ratio can be seen as a symbol of the quest for harmony and balance within the psyche. From a Kabbalistic lens, Phi can be related to the concept of divine proportion and harmony represented by the Hebrew letter Shin. The Shin is linked to the divine wisdom that underlies creation, reflecting the harmonious interplay of divine forces in the cosmos. In summary, while Carl Jung's work does not directly incorporate Kabbalah, certain aspects of his concepts can be explored through a Kabbalistic lens, particularly when relating to the symbolism of the Hebrew letters Shin, Psi, and Phi. Both Jungian psychology and Kabbalah share a deep interest in the exploration of the human psyche and spiritual growth, and they offer unique perspectives on the journey towards self-discovery and enlightenment.
Blue Velvet is an underrated example of Jung’s theories about shadow integration. And it says a lot about how people in modern society fail to integrate properly and truly understand themselves
My theory is that the mind has several layers. These are The conscious , The subconscious, and The emotions These layers are defined simply by how quickly the thoughts occur within them, and how accurate those thoughts are. The conscious has the slowest thought, but also the most logical and accurate thought. The subconscious is much faster than the conscious, and interacts with the conscious to help reach relevant information quickly. The subconscious retrieves information and organizes it to prepare it for conscious thought. The emotions are the fastest form of thought, making connections and reaching conclusions incredibly quickly. Unfortunately it also tends to be inaccurate, very inaccurate at times. And the brains pain, pleasure, and motivational responses (feelings) respond most to the emotional layer. As a result of how quickly the emotional layer creates connections, emotions are often incredibly complex. It is the challenge in self discovery to consciously explore and understand the complex connections in your emotions that create your feelings. The process of discovering the source of your emotions can take a very long time. Weeks, months, even years. It becomes especially difficult when there is an aversion or fear of self introspection, which often results in anxiety and depression.
that is why there must be a revolution on education, to teach kids from a young age how to understand things on an emotional level. That's why it's complicated, because there are many concepts in life that must be undersood on an emotional level and we haven't been educatend on how to do that. Love for example. One can read a whole book about love and you'll never quite get it unless you experience it.
Not only Jungs iq must have been insanely high, i would guess over 200. But his visionary and creative abilities to tap into a way of thinking nobody else thought of is truly outstanding
Biologist here. I have no idea how Jung figured out that there is a collective unconsciousness at his time. It's beyond impressive to me that he was able to do so. Nowadays we know about such things as "folk biology" or other psychological adaptations (f.e. fear of heights, spiders, snakes, darkness, strangers...) that just arise in children cross-culturally during specific stages of their development. The understanding is that - through thousands of generations - our psyche has acquired these adaptations as survival-promoting mechanisms. I guess that translates (at least roughly?) to his concept of Archetypes? All of this is fascinating and I realize I want to read all of his books. :D
Freud was definitely reductionist, scientific though? He never relied on collecting data and testing it, why he later developed the reputation of being a hack. Jung's "mystical consideration" was on the other hand something he reached after scouring psychology and other disciplines far and wide. It's Jung that was the scientific one.
Freud was essential, to say the least, to psychoanalysis and the focus on the subconscious. I don't consider Jung a "psychoanalyst." To me, he is placed among that of Nietzsche and Dostoevsky. How marvelous is it to "be born at a time" when we can indulge in such thoughts from that of Freud and Jung.
@@yeisongomez4286 What's the value of Freud's psychoanalysis though? The only people who sill think he was right in his theory of how the mind works are a handful of Jewish doctors defending him out of misplaced tribal interest to see one of their own as the father of psychology, who never use his methods and theories and never waste time trying to prove them, while everyone else ignores them and his psychoanalysis. The theories that Jung kept and then changed from his have been the ones that anyone invests any time and effort in, because they are empirically true. Yea sorry but to me he became a pseudo-scientist when he decided to isolate his psychoanalysis from anyone who didn't agree with him and was under the influence of his cult of personality.

Its important to know yourself for yourself. People have a way of knowing others based on observation, investigation, and then labeling you. You define you...
I agree. I think one of the subconscious's greatest gift is to hide how deep of a rabbit hole some of these shadows are. I think your everyday consciousness can handle seeing the shadows at a surface level, but if you end up going inside these shadows in earnest yet ill prepared, you can go temporarily insane. Personally when I went into one of my shadows I was just following a train of thought. It was like taking a normal trail path and all of a sudden I realized I was in a scary forest. So I panicked and ran home, but the forest followed me. I also felt something staring at me from deep in the woods. The scariest part was that day, and to a lesser degree the following days, a huge portion of my conscious focus/awareness was involuntarily and non-stop pointed at that "something" that was making it's presents felt. Anyways, that day ended up with me apologizing to my subconscious for a few things and told it how much I appreciate the work it's doing and the shield of ignorance and builds to protect me. It decided to go outside and took the scary forest with it.
If something hasn't felt more on point. The funny thing is I've always felt. That something is really me. But not the me I can recognize. Just as you can't see your face without a reflection. I always question how many hands are actually on this wheel I call my mind?

I always find it interesting that when comparing Jung and Freud, Freud's thinking is referred to as the one that's more rational and scientifically grounded when on the bigger picture Freud is often dismissed as pseudoscientific.
It's not that interesting when you actually study it and realize it's correct. It's also not "often dismissed". It's downright dismissed because it's been proven, not by Freud himself, but by decades of research and practice that Jung's views, while interesting and attractive for people that see an enemy in rationality, are just mega errors in terms of reading the human mind. People simply work in much different ways than Jung ever realized. Jung is the actual reductionist in here. The human mind is incredibly complex and specific at the same time. If Jung was right, then everyone would've been healed by now since his words are not that hard to understand nor apply really. The problem is he developed 0 structure around the questions he asked, therefore anyone taking directly on Jung's views will sooner or later meet the same wall. Jung is like a self-help book. Which is why Jung is so likeable. But just like a self-help book, he's not actually helpful. And people today confuse likeable for helpful. And in psychology in order to be helpful, being likeable is not a requirement.
@@julianleft4662 nah, he said things the establishment didn't want the masses 'believing' (or rather discovering), so they tried to discredit him. People are messed up because they're force fed BS from birth, not allowed to be themselves, and can't even discuss the sources of the problems, because they lack the necessary language, and because they're mostly unaware of their own nature, and of the astonishing multitude of efforts being made to shape us and keep us subjugated to the external will of the exceedingly powerful.

Honestly, I didn't like him at first when I didn't know much about his philosophy. I saw him as sort of uptight and doomy but i related so much and it feels like he went much deep into the working of the self and the psyche much more than most other philosophers did and I really really enjoyed it Maybe it was me projecting my shadow self on him before I even knew him
@@ifrankenstein7455 Interesting insight. That may very likely be what I'm currently doing as well. Until I read up more on this man and his work, I won't know. And even then, we don't even really know people while they're alive, and even in front of us our whole lives - so it's surely a majority of imagination that creates a person when they've come to pass.
Very insightful comment, thank you ☺️

Our experiences in life shape us in ways which we don't really understand, at least not intuitively. So the process of individuation and figuring out how these processes work is the most important thing we could do for ourselves...

I've had blinkist for more than 2 years. Seriously, it's worth every penny! I just wanted to let y'all know, he is not promoting any bs.
1. Shin (שׁ) - Symbol of Divine Fire and Transformation:
In Kabbalistic thought, the Hebrew letter Shin is associated with fire and divine light.
2. Psi (Ψ) - Symbol of Psychic and Spiritual Phenomena:
In Jungian psychology, the symbol of Psi (Ψ) is often used to represent psychic and spiritual phenomena.
3. Phi (Φ) - Symbol of the Golden Ratio and Divine Harmony:
The concept of Phi (Φ) or the Golden Ratio involves a divine proportion found in nature and art.

I'm super interested now in the archetypes that Jung saw, integrating the Anima, and individuation thanks to this video.
My theory is that the mind has several layers. These are The conscious
, The subconscious, and The emotions
These layers are defined simply by how quickly the thoughts occur within them, and how accurate those thoughts are.

There is no such thing as evolution.
Freud was definitely reductionist, scientific though? He never relied on collecting data and testing it, why he later developed the reputation of being a hack. Jung's "mystical consideration" was on the other hand something he reached after scouring psychology and other disciplines far and wide. It's Jung that was the scientific one.
They are 'Jing and Yang'
Freud was essential, to say the least, to psychoanalysis and the focus on the subconscious. I don't consider Jung a "psychoanalyst." To me, he is placed among that of Nietzsche and Dostoevsky. How marvelous is it to "be born at a time" when we can indulge in such thoughts from that of Freud and Jung.
@@heinedenmark haha. I see what you did there!

People often confuse cynicism for rationality. The mistake most militant atheists make too.
If you’ve come across Power v Force by Dr David Hawkins, you might like to know that Freud calibrated at 499 while Jung at 520
It's not that interesting when you actually study it and realize it's correct.
Anyone who's been alive for long enough and isn't deluding themselves, knows that's how this world is designed to work.

Dude, think I just found my favorite philosopher so far. I connected so much with the ideas expressed here.
Honestly, I didn't like him at first when I didn't know much about his philosophy. I saw him as sort of uptight and doomy but i related so much and it feels like he went much deep into the working of the self and the psyche much more than most other philosophers did and I really really enjoyed it
Maybe it was me projecting my shadow self on him before I even knew him
@@ifrankenstein7455 Interesting insight. That may very likely be what I'm currently doing as well. Until I read up more on this man and his work, I won't know. And even then, we don't even really know people while they're alive, and even in front of us our whole lives - so it's surely a majority of imagination that creates a person when they've come to pass.
Despite the imagery created by one's self to depict another, I hope to find deeper knowledge of myself and my truth through the little left behind of the great minds that have been. Perspective is always the highest goal, right up there with passing on the wisest learned views to hold.
may i ask, r the words spoken in this videos directly from books or do u write them urself? its truly the most satisfying string of words strung together, like when artists put chords together to make a beautiful song
I'm glad to have stumbled upon this channel, so much rambling in every video that I can choose any to help me fall asleep. Thank you
Just bought both your books on amazon! Super excited!
Fantastic explanation of Carl Jung. Perhaps the best I've ever seen. Concise and beautifully organized. Thanks.
