    This is the best video I have seen on changing the oil pan gasket on an X3. I have an X5 but from what I see they are pretty close. The Bentley manual has you take apart a lot of parts that from this video need not be taken apart. Thanks so much Jason, I do not fear the job now.

    Hello,
    Just wanted to really thank you for this great video. I followed carefully your instructions and tips. Without it I would not have managed to change the oil pan from my e91 330xi. Big thank from France!

    Great video! Been waiting for Part 2 for a few days. I have a 2005 E83 with manual transmission. I've been following your E83 project. I definitely have rear main seal leaking and possibly oil pan gasket leaking.

    Not sure if mentioned in the e46 oil pan videos but if there is difficulty with the steering linkage you can unlock the telescoping steering wheel to make the back and forth play easier....I believe this one had the same manual locking bar.

    Good contents. if you guys plan to change oil pan gasket soon, I highly recommend to change the diff/CV axle seals and O-rings. I did not do it and now regret due to oil leaks. If I do it again, I would also change the engine mounts.

    I really enjoy your videos on the 330I sadly I traded my 330ci for a 2000 ML320. I will continue to watch your videos you post, because you explain with such detail. And I enjoy all of that. Hopefully you come across a Mercedes ML320 to fix I'll be looking out for those videos.

    I think I am going to do this on my sons 2000 323i. I imagine that should be a bit easier.

    There's two bolts in the bottom of the oil pan t10 there kinda right below that channel that is where the axle would slide through. Are these to adjust the shaft tunnel?

    FIY - Bavauto sells an oil filter housing gasket that uses the new Dupont viton seal. I think you mentioned this on another video.

    Just a comment on your opinion of rtv on the gasket. As far as the oil pan is concered i think it would not only be a bad idea to do it but honestly a necessity for it. My e83 is leaking like a stuck pig right now at the oil pan and has been since 110k now 170k. For all the work that's involved to change it and the longevity of that gasket max 10 years, really why not try it?

    Awesome video thank you! BMW's aren't really rocket science to work on compared to some other brands. They can be tedious or not depending on what it is but what isn't these days? Definitely didn't look that bad. Would you say 10-12 hour job or way less?

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  5 років тому

      Yeah about 10-12 sounds right. Definitely wanna break it up into 2 days. Working on the ground takes it outta you

    Thanks for the video, I have the same issue with a 330xi 2008 automatic and nothing available on youtube for this model with x drive. I think it is quite similar with your x3 nevertheless. would you advise to change the oil pan bolts with new ones although they are in good shape?
    And do you think there are other gaskets made reachable while we are there and that are therefore worth to change ?

      can't use it on aluminum -- oven cleaner has lye and that will react with aluminum
