  • Like most things, if you have the right tools, that's half the battle. I recently punctured my right rear tire on a 28 ft class c RV while coming down the hill from Felton to Santa Cruz. Had to call AAA roadside and that's a whole other story, but the long and short of it is I got a free lesson in how to deal with RV tires.
*Correction* I reference needing a 1/4" ratchet but it is actually a 1/2" ratchet that is needed. As well, I'm using a 5" extension but a 10" or even 18" extension (breaker bar). Thank you, Anthony P.
I'll show you how to lift the RV with a 12 ton bottle jack and change the tire - not hard! You just need to have the right tools on hand, which I explain in the video.
    Materials I used:
12 Ton Bottle Jack (Harbor Freight) - $39
1/2" ratchet wrench with 15/16th deep socket (less than $20 for both)
3 Ton Jack Stands - $34.99 at Home Depot
29MM socket to remove hub cap nuts - $5.99 at Harbor Freight
    Recommended:
    18" Breaker Bar (www.harborfrei...)

Never mount a new tire next to a old tire in a duel configuration such as you have. There is a physical difference in size even though the tire sizes are the same. This will cause the new tire to carry most of the load which will cause the new tire to overheat causing pre-mature tire failure....

    1. Jack from the axle, not the frame. Jacking from the frame requires significantly higher jacking to unload the spring, adding to the danger and the size of the jack. And never use a floor jack on the differential.
    2. You didn't chock the other wheels or set the parking brake.
    3. The lug nuts are to be torqued to 140. What instructions said 70 or 80?
    4. There's other important steps that need to be taken. I guess I'll make my own video.

70 to 80 ft lbs is not enough torque for those big lug nuts. I think those should be like 140 ft lbs. you might want to double check that.

Great video - might want to look at spare load rating-
    That might be a 4 ply. 😳

Great point! I think I'll swsp one of the LT Defenders on as the spare and put two new Alegis in the front.
