Ironic you complain about the predatory micro transactions in your video, yet you accept sponsorship money from a company that profits primarily off of predatory micro transactions.
@@Conanesque im not jack but im following him currently at this channel www.twitch.tv/jacksathershow (and yeah its weird the youtube link takes you to a channel called "jackplasma".)
Yes💰. I knoww, it's my bad. but dude, my youtube pay is $1.4k this month. Which isn't enough to do this thing full time. That doesn't even cover rent. I realize the irony, but most sponsors that reach out to me are for these kinda games cause I'm in this genre and I truthfully do have friends that play the game on the reg, so I said yes. But It's a fuck up on my end and I'm not going to put these kinda ads on these kinda videos in the future.
@VinceLyle2161 I've never ever liked anything mr beast has done. But I think he's beyond that. It's too large. And the target audience that is being, for the lack of a better term, victimised, is too young to understand that that is happening. He's on 307m now btw.
you aren’t a hipster you just have good taste. this is what happened to movies and music. everything is watered down to it’s optimal marketability. indie games are the future keep up the good work soldier🫡
I tried Once Human out and ended up having way more fun than I expected. I thought it would be a sweaty Rust-like, but it feels more like a Palworld in terms of the survival elements, very chill looting, gathering, and crafting. Then the devs just dropped a huge patch with QoL and bug fixes which felt like they actually care about their game (looking at you, Helldivers 2). I totally recommend anyone curious giving it a try, just don't take the story too seriously, the visuals are a bit rough still with character models and cutscenes, but not enough to affect the core experience.
I agree my friend said to get it and I was like if the game isn't fun we can just goof off and make it fun but not I've put more time in solo than with friends bc the game is just really fun to play
I saw the trailers and immediately thought that it sounded like a Chinese made game, which I do not like and take seriously because of their reputation. My friend downloaded it so I downloaded the game as well, and ironically enough, I played the game for hours on end but my friend stuck for 30 minutes and didn’t comeback for no particular reason
The coffeezilla of video game developers is a direction for this channel that I am absolutely here for. Tremendous content, Jack. Congrats on your growth. You deserve it all
If the indie game dev thing doesn't tickle your interest in the long run, you should try game journalism. Great investigative work and as always, your presentation is just *chef's kiss*. Keep up the great work!
I mean honestly, the game being free is a step compared to call of duty mw3 which has crazy price tag to it since it's like a DLC to mw2. I think that once human has a lot of potential even though it is like a mobile port to pc. I know that the crafting and building (which isn't a new concept) is very simple but it's still fun! the character design and the abilities that the enemies have are complex and really creative (some of the normal enemies and bosses are kind of repetitive when it comes to their abilities but it's still fun) moral of the story this game is like a 7/10
As someone who finished the first monolyth, the boss gave me huge Remnant vibes from the design, which is the gold standard. Of course, it isn't a Remnant and Remnant still does it a lot better, but that it reminded me of it at all is enough to make me want to keep playing, and I am having (actually lots of) fun.
Back again, waiting for the next upload :) you came outta nowhere a while back and instantly became one of my favorite UA-camrs. I don’t even play 90% of the games you talk about, it’s just comforting and fun to watch your stuff. Keep it up, man ✊
This video was an interesting one. In the interest of creating a viable discussion around this topic, I'm going to leave my thoughts on this video below! Keep in mind, my thoughts are regarding Once Human. For sake of transparency: This is the first video i've seen from this channel. I've played Once human for 200+ hours. I've purchased some of the cosmetics, and I've voiced my own criticisms and problems with the game to the developers. (Huge wall of text incoming...) First of all, many of your criticism of the game & the studio itself is quite unwarranted and imo exaggerated for the sake of the video. It also comes across as a ''omg china is scary so chinese company is scary!'' vibe at times. Some of your aguments even play into that, which I found rather disappointing & lacking any real substance. As a European I don't understand it. Is this just some idea of american exceptionalism? To me theres no real difference between Chinese billionaires and American billionaires. As for Chinese companies competing in European and American gaming markets, this is most definitely POSITIVE for the player ecosystem. More competition fuels higher standards, pushes out more games, which in turn gives us more fun games to play. Even considering, as you acknowledged, these studios have a good track record of treating their employees well, and paying good salaries. The main review disaster for Once Human being a cause of people spreading disinformation etc (privacy policy) and fearmongering around China. The community as well as of late recognizes NetEase & Once Humans developers ability to listen to community feedback and actively work for the benefit of the playerbase. This is amazing! This is the type of proactive and positive relationship we want with studios! Why go through the effort of making that sound so terrible? Is it because they're owned by a big chinese company, rather than a big american company? (which is your main point of concern at the end part of the video) If so, hold them both to the same standards! I honestly also think it speaks volumes that you speak so much of the ethics of Once Human as a game, the studio behind it, and it's Free-To-Play nature, and then you have a World of Tanks sponsorship? (It's honestly also just really funny for how ironic it is) If you're going to seemingly hold other games to a particular standard, your actions should reflect that when a sponsorship comes along bro. Practice what you preach! I'm a UA-camr myself, so I understand the need to accept sponsorships in order to make this a fulltime job, but this was not it. Transparency is super important when you take on these types of sponsorships. However, you already addressed that and said it was a mistake, so i'll leave it at that. All in all, It's also just hard to take this video too seriously when a lot of the criticism you make is ''this free game tries to make money through cosmetics how dare they!'' and even your actual comment, I quote ''The financial aspect of this game is so f-ing slimy dude'' is wild to me. How have we gone so far as to even complain about cosmetic prices, in a FREE game, that provides NO pay to win features? That's not slimy at all lol. You don't really elaborate on WHY it's slimy, except for perhaps 1 argument the way you buy crystgins leaving you with spares you can't use. Which, isn't even true. If the main complaint about the micro-transaction is that the prices are too high, then that's a fair critique! I personally don't like how high the prices are for crystgins. BUT, since you made this video, they have listened to community feedback and lowered the prices of a lot of these skins! But, in the end I think you do a disservice to yourself when you leave out the fact that buying Crystgins does NOT leave you with spare crystgins that you cannot use. They have tons of items in the shop, which allows you to use all of your crystgins that you buy in just 1 pack. (this is true even prior to some skin prices being lowered) There's many very valid criticism you can make regarding the game itself, and I don't think you touch on any of them. Most of this video wasn't even about the game itself, but rather the marketing and the studio behind it. This leaves me thinking you didn't actually play the game enough to be able to critique the objectively negative things about the game. You make it sound super negative that Chinese companies are preparing to compete in American and European gaming companies... because they're Chinese billionaires and not American billionaires? The prejudice you show comes in the way of you delivering an honest reliable review, and personally I find it kind of distasteful. It just lacks any substantial substance when the narrative about these games swings almost ENTIRELY to geopolitics. To conclude, I really don't think you made this video with ill-intent. Perhaps just a bit ill-informed. Personally I feel that you didn't articulate your points very well, in addition to not having done enough research to vehemently claim some of the issues you have regarding the game. As you maybe noticed, I didn't make many points regarding your comments about the game, as in, it's mechanics, the content within and it's story. That's entirely subjective and I'm not here to harp on you for your mostly personal taste, even though I find myself disagreeing with a lot of it. I honestly found a lot of your commentary to be entertaining. You have a great voice, the jokes were funny, and the editing was on point. I could see myself vibing with other videos of yours! I now know you're a gaming developer yourself, which is awesome! I think though, just for the sake of transparency of this video you should've mentioned that. Your video comes down to majoritively just a personal taste and subjective opinion. And with this information, people could see the video through a different lense. Not through the lense of viewing this as a perfectly unbiased review of the games, but rather as an Indie devs opinion of a bigger game company and the issues that come with it. In my opinion, THAT would've made for a much more productive & positive video. I think you have all the tools to make video game essays in your own unique way and I hope you do well! Best of luck for your future videos and I hope you don't take my comment as a personal attack, this was not my intention at all. I hope you continue learning and improving, and succeeding with your channel!
Look Once Human definitely seems wierd at first, but the game is great. There are no pay to win mechanics yet. Sure there could be eventually, but for now it's great.

A lot of the criticisms are unwarranted or are exaggerated for the sake of the video. As someone who avoids free-to-play games like the plague (that includes world of tanks lmao), I actually put 120 hours into Once Human and had a great time doing so. None of the ACTUAL problems with the game were mentioned in this video.
@@casperinmdnah there is, it’s called NO Quality Control. Play the game for 120 hours and this guy says he seen none of the problems mentioned in the video!?? How about some of you liars actually play the game. First off we have an UNENJOYABLE PVP. With the ability to turn off PVP in none hot zones!?? In a PVP exclusive server!??? Ask any dev around theres a reason they dont allow turning off of PVP in their PVP based servers the amount of exploits possible. Speaking about exploits, CHeaters!?? Not even a querter past release I’ve already encountered flying cheaters?? Thirdly did you notice the MOBILE element of the game!?? Oh you didn’t maybe if you tried taking a look you will realise “hmm, this asset seems awfully familiar it kinda feels… stolen or inspired by something, heh who gives AF I can barely see anything with the UI covering all majority of my screen” Then did you see the cosmetics earnable in game? It aint cross account. Cosmetics are specific to one account in the specific server. Then did you see how they doing their server wipe.?? Just recently this week they mentioned in their game that when the game server resets the players will get to keep their quest progress but guess what else they keep? They get the choice to keep selected resources or weapons from their inventory… CORRECT if I am wrong but I DO not remember Rust allowing it’s players to bring a Helicopter from one server to another nor their fully kitted armour and weapons to another server.. Lastly for all the defenders that say “but the devs communicate with their playerbase” Wanna know who else communicated with their playerbase “HELLDIVERS2” wanna know what state their in right now? A constant state of losing players cause each new update makes the weapons the players grinded sooo Hard far obsolete or useless. So Go ahead defenders tell people to play this game first before saying anything, well I DID. I think people who actually need to play this game should also play OTHER GOOD GAMES to realise the role and purpose of a GOOD QUALITY tester… And if I hear anyone say “but the game has so many features”. Yeah they do have sooo many features…. SO MANY FEATURES that do not Work WELL with each other… for e.g the whisper message players can drop?guess what they can also drop that near Vital interaction spots. Thus preventing you from progressing because you can’t scroll through what you can interact as opposed to elden ring or bloodborne
Although I haven't playing games much nowadays, I recognized Once Human has taken inspiration from so many games that I've played or want to play like Death Stranding, Palworld, Control etc. The thing is, Once Human copies the good part of those games so even if the game is full of inspirations, it actually makes for a fun game to play and the best part is, they are free (at least for now). I've spent 100+ hours in Starfield which feels like a chore after 60 hours mark but for Once Human I spent more than 100 hours without realizing it until I look at my Steam stats.
My wife and I sort of stumbled into Once Human after playing games like 7 Days to Die, Terraria, Valheim, etc etc for years. OH is quickly becoming an all-time favorite. I don't understand the complaints about it, really. It has its faults, sure, but writing the game off entirely because of who makes it and why makes zero sense... again with this game as with so many others, this is arguing against every commonly used dirty tactic in capitalism, all while we consuming products made using every dirty tactic in capitalism. This is a soap box that no one but the Amish can legitimately stand on. News flash: *everyone* is trying to get your dollar or your time. If you work for a living you are doing it also, or you're working for someone who does [World of Tanks and UA-cam] --sorry!) The whole "it's too easy" argument is just...meh. Not everything is a Souls-like and if you find this game easy to the point of boring, you probably game too much! If you like this style of game, the core gamplay loop is solid, fun, and polished. There are hard modes for bosses already, and it's possible that seasons will progress in difficulty as the game evolves and players become more powerful with it. There's so much quality of life built into this game (move your entire house, move items in house easily, craft from containers in house, etc) that you sometimes wonder why the devs botched a few simple things like having to stand *on top* of chests to loot them. The inability to rebind the most-spammed key in the game is also a miss. But for the most part, gameplay is smooth and hassle-free unless you are playing on a potato and the lack of perfect optimization gives you problems. When it comes to games or anything else, the critics only get you so far: results and player base speak for themselves-- hate the publisher, hate the developer, hate the system, hate all the other stuff, whatever-- this game is good.
@@baddaysbasil5376 the hard/pro mode boss is quite satisfying as well. Challenging enough but not too resource consuming (I haven't focus on prime war, that's a separate beast). I’ve played these two games at the same time recently and imagine my surprise when the Netease logo popped up when i first launched Once Human 💀 (yes as a chinese, we know their reputation) But Once Human is actually fun unlike The First Descendant because the grind on TFD is actually actually insane actually ridiculous. If u need thing A you’d have to grind for thing B and THEN you’d need thing C to use to grind for thing B (hope i’m making sense here) it’s actually insane. Not to mention the drop rates are crazy low and it makes you wait for over 24 hours for some stuff or use your wallet i’ve only played for …idk 10hours? and im done bro 💀
I hope Korean and Chinese companies can be competitive in the market, so many western companies put out slop that isn't even enjoyable to play with just as much intention to sell things to you.

yes , it is, hes SHILLING FOR HIS SPONSORS my God people are dumb these days. i bet if once human sponsored him he would be talking shit about some other game and promoing once human instead.
my only issue is i think once human is a good game but if the wipes are always going to be that short imma quit, but you do have some VERY good points. Loved the video, thanks for what you do
We need to talk about the irony of trashing Once Human and First Descendant, while promoting World of Tanks. Like cmon, you can't make that sht up. Once Human is messy and feels like Control cause both are based on SCP. I just wish OH leaned more into the SCP thing, it wouldn't feel so random if it was properly fleshed out. Also fuck Nexon.
I was really disappointed that a rare Jack Sather video would be wasted on Once Human and First Descendant But as usual Jack circumnavigates my expectations, well done sir

@@emiel255 it was tongue in cheek dude. The point is everybody has been praising Once Human as if it were the new Elden Ring, and seeing it in the title made me think he was gonna gush about it. My mistake
To be honest, with Once Human I was iffy about playing it but after 104.5 hours as of this comment I'm enjoying it. Currently on a server on week 2 and a friend and I already are fully caught up. Now we're just grinding out to level 50 for fun, getting more memetics for fun stuff, and side quests. The storyline is interesting but I like it. Best part is the game isn't pay-to-win. Wouldn't have played if it were to be. Best part about the game is cars can climb 90 degree angles upwards (I hope they don't patch it because it's fun). Going to keep playing it for a long while as I'm burned out of all other games (excluding my favorite game to suffer in War Thunder). I do understand why some people may hate/dislike the game but we all have our own tastes and care about the companies behind them. Great video overall though!
I remember theres a talk show (in chinese) a few years ago that talks how Netease handle their software development cycle in China (or was it another company i forgot). They hire a bunch of developers, seperate them into teams, and each team tackle the same project. Each team has to compete with other team. Whoever came up with the better version of the project wins and get promote/higher salery/ resources/power. And they rinse and repeat this approach until they get the best product they want. so that answers why you can't find their developer team cuz it may not be constantly the same team.
"I don't understand why people are accepting of these kinds of games.... ..... ..... .... Now why don't you guys play World of TANKS!?!? Woohoo" 😂 Great video but I'd definitely put WoT up there lol
I really do not understand people calling Jack a hypocrite or saying it is ironic that he took a WoT sponsorship for this video. WoT simply cannot be compared to these games. (Ive been playing since 2011) Jack also brings up some really good subjects such as how the companies making these games are Chinese and they are aggressively buying out competition (by way of CCP funding). Keep doing you Jack, stay awesome!
Comparison is the thief of joy jack. Enjoy what you’ve created. Not everyone can build a community 300K strong. We’re here for you and are happy to see you grow just as you are 🤘🏼
Congrats on 300k Jack! It's well deserved. I know it's not related to the video but I think it'd be neat if you did another Q&A. As an aspiring UA-camr, I always come back to that video to remind myself that the dream isn't impossible.
well it is Chyna aftter all and theres a stigma stuck to it sadly. i for one am enjoying myself still. i think the chinese did a great job with this new free to play on the market, always good with more competition. we get better games and more variety :D
Yea idk whats up with the american exceptionalism, but evidently once human is performing really really well, like better than triple A games in terms of players, and its not exactly what i'd call a bad game, its janky for sure, but i've seen thousands (and played some) of american-made early access/indie jank games (esp survival games) that stay in early access limbo forever and continue to be scuffed af. While this game has continued to take player feedback and change/improve stuff. Not ignoring all the criticisms.. but what's the use being so mad at a game that is actually free, not as predatory as even many paid triple A games, and is kind of decent/good? Like you can be mad as mediocre live service games as a whole, but people wanted a game like this (actual shared world mmo shooters that have actual open world)

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed The Finals too. But after our first few matches, I kept telling my friends “this game feels A.I. generated”. Got the exact same vibes from Once Human. There’s no doubt these developers put effort into their games- they work, not many glitches and they look good. There’s just so much stuff put in without proper rhyme or reason that results in the games feeling hollow, and I feel this is especially seen with these Chinese companies who own multiple game studios

@sharku8417 Have you tried playing it? Also there's no objective way to review a game dude, people have different opinions, and your opinion should not be based on what someone else decides for you, try experiencing it yourself before making a statement like that. That's where Jack is wrong here, he didn't give the actual enough attention to accurately review it.

Hard to take it seriously with your sponsor being world of tanks. You spent way too long on the ethics of the game for that to be where the money is coming from

Ok so I am not saying that TFD isn't grindy cuz it sure is, but the comment at 28:00 is lying. Ultimate Descendants can be unlocked somewhere between 10 to 30 hours depending on how lucky/unlucky you are. Idk how they came up with 200h but that's 100% not true.
I got ultimate lepic within like 6 hours its not that bad. Even the hardest ult I've tried so far might total up to 20 hours, playing 2-3 hours a day on week days and then all that weekend.
You can actually find some of Starry Studios employees on career websites. They are pretty chill and are located in a few different countries. They seem like a remote studio with a base in a couple of places. I think they're doing the give temporary titles to people thing that small studios do to make themselves look like a much bigger studio. Given what I've seen I think everyone shown is an employee of Starry, as some of them still appear in the game's discord. Just that their roles are kind of as and when needed when they're doing in front of the camera stuff.
He focused so much on it to emphasize his 2nd point about those studios being new and made with a purpose of pushing games in the west. I agree some criticism isn't valid at this time about em but I can understand the reason he went that route
Yeah, I usually don't give a dislike quickly. He obviously did his research and the video might be fine, but one thing I can't stand is hypocrisy. Wanna hate on those types of games? Fine, but first stop promoting them.
@@Runnerskeeper "He obviously did his research and the video might be fine" He definitely didn't. Multiple commenters were able to locate and identify starry studio personnel quickly. Unfortunately it looks like Jack did a quick English only google search and called it a day lol.
@@Runnerskeeper There's a huge difference between critiquing a company and or game, and paying the bills. Rational minded people understand this. As long as Jack isn't giving a pass to Wot (Wargaming) in a review/video while being sponsored by them, than there's nothing wrong with taking a sponsor to pay the bills.
Have you tried Warframe? You can enjoy what you want to enjoy, I take no issue with that, it's just everything First Descendant does has been done better by other games that are nowhere near as predatory. I only off this as a suggestion of being treated better as a consumer for the similar experience and not a demand
@@Phillz91 I think people like the idea of jumping into an experience fresh without competing against players like in warframe who have been playing for years

Chinese people often have 2 names - one in their native language and a genetic one understandable by westerners. It's very common, just FYI (Source: my kids are half Chinese and they have 2 names) Great video - I don't touch these shitty games but I love to learn about them through your perspective!
NO. Once Human is actually a decent experience. It's a great start compared to other generic older games that were bad, and were way overrated (day z) (7 days to die) etc. Once Human as of now has plenty of content and things to do but it's clear it's still a work in progress.
You are really stepping up your UA-cam game. This is my favorite channel at the moment and it is so cool to watch you grow and do all kinds of interesting formats. Thanks for this great video! Really wild situation with these games, glad someone is digging a bit deeper. PS: you are rocking the coder-haircut.
I feel like you've been getting more confident in these videos which lets your personality shine through the camera. I don't care about these games and I still sat through the entire 33 mins because of your style.
All his takes except calling the games not fun and focusing a lot on the hidden studios, are valid. Even then, fun is subjective and the 2nd one can be explained cause of the 2nd point he wanted to make about what's coming in the western market. @@parauid "All his takes except calling the games not fun and focusing a lot on the hidden studios, are valid. " There isn't really many criticisms left if you remove those lol. Especially when his entire point about monetization falls flat when he's sponsored by a literal pay to win game.
@@ArchieZeroOne From what I remember: Trailers being generic af and not showing much about the game. Story being boring, generic af and lacking any mystery by having it bombarded on our face, first minutes of the game. Outfits being typical and non imaginative (mostly for tfd). The systems they've put in place, as messy as you find them, are seemingly what consumers want. No what he's done goes beyond hypocritical. He apparently has an issue with that monetization system but has no issue profiting off it. That's the definition of selling out or being morally bankrupt. That in fact does dismiss his point.

Ok, lets be honest, you can not say that Banana was a great free to play game. You clicked on a jpg of a banana so you could get more jpgs of bananas. Thats it. Also 14:47 is exactly why I was disappointed in Once Human. They just built up this dark, mutated other world that you have to explore in order to unlock its secrets, and then they ruined it. Fuckin all hype killed for me.
Ok, let's be honest.. did the joke actually go over your head? Or do you really believe that someone genuinely thinks that Banana is a great free to play game?

(Huge wall of text incoming...)
First of all, many of your criticism of the game & the studio itself is quite unwarranted and imo exaggerated for the sake of the video.
(this is true even prior to some skin prices being lowered)
There's many very valid criticism you can make regarding the game itself, and I don't think you touch on any of them.

No one cares about the actual game itself. This video is about the scammers behind it.

Oh you didn’t maybe if you tried taking a look you will realise “hmm, this asset seems awfully familiar it kinda feels… stolen or inspired by something, heh who gives AF I can barely see anything with the UI covering all majority of my screen”
Then did you see the cosmetics earnable in game? It aint cross account. Cosmetics are specific to one account in the specific server.
Then did you see how they doing their server wipe.?? Just recently this week they mentioned in their game that when the game server resets the players will get to keep their quest progress but guess what else they keep? They get the choice to keep selected resources or weapons from their inventory… CORRECT if I am wrong but I DO not remember Rust allowing it’s players to bring a Helicopter from one server to another nor their fully kitted armour and weapons to another server..
Lastly for all the defenders that say “but the devs communicate with their playerbase”
Wanna know who else communicated with their playerbase “HELLDIVERS2” wanna know what state their in right now? A constant state of losing players cause each new update makes the weapons the players grinded sooo Hard far obsolete or useless.
So Go ahead defenders tell people to play this game first before saying anything, well I DID. I think people who actually need to play this game should also play OTHER GOOD GAMES to realise the role and purpose of a GOOD QUALITY tester…
And if I hear anyone say “but the game has so many features”.
IKR. Time just flies playing Once Human. Especially for me which has limited time to play
If you work for a living you are doing it also, or you're working for someone who does [World of Tanks and UA-cam] --sorry!)
The whole "it's too easy" argument is just...meh.

There’s no doubt these developers put effort into their games- they work, not many glitches and they look good. There’s just so much stuff put in without proper rhyme or reason that results in the games feeling hollow, and I feel this is especially seen with these Chinese companies who own multiple game studios
I think the finals literally has ai generated voices
@@deathbycheese5255 I always had a suspicion that the announcer voices were but I see now how that could actually be true
@@deathbycheese5255they are. Steam will even show you if games have machine learning AI in them and it very well has it labeled. I remember it being a hot topic when the game came out. Never played cause of it but yeah.
As a person that has never played this type of game before (fps looter shooter it is called I believe?), I booted it up with my friend and by ignoring all lore stuff and treating it as a looter shooter base builder, we have been having tons of fun. I am wondering if you had a similar approach to the game and if, despite that approach, you still found it uninteresting or un-fun to play.
@@ΧάρηςΚαζάκης Honestly, I was going in a little biased in that the game didn’t look that interesting to me. I did try to enjoy it but I’m just not a fan of the genre
I like this bloke.
My favourite is 15:05 Anomanlies
all i got from this video was because you aren't into them they are bad with some very few valid criticisms. all while having world of tanks sponsor this video 💀
Yep, he didn't really play the games much either, just shat on them cause he was upset.
It's an objectively bad game.
@@SolerFlare117 it's f2p, so it's objectively bad. I didn't play it because my time is too valuable for bad games, but hey, don't let me stop you from enjoying f2p slop.
@@sharku8417 sure that objective. the only thing hes said that even remotely matters is that the company is maybe kind of shady. personally i don't think that just because they're a company from a different country that they're immediately shady. Also having a world of tanks sponsor on this video imo just wipes all credibility he has
I love Once Human. I think its great
Hard to take it seriously with your sponsor being world of tanks. You spent way too long on the ethics of the game for that to be where the money is coming from
For real. He actively questions why the games have so much support and then has one of them as a sponsor. Same video where he thanks people for 300K subs. Is he braindead?
@@GDKF0238 Nah, he's just the typical hyprocrite millennial, sells out to corporations while spewing progressive bs. That way, he gets both your empathy and the corporations' money.
Besides the sponsor and criticizing starry for nothingburgers, he brings up good points tho
@@parauid His points are fine outside of this moral grandstanding he spent the first half on. Because the company sponsoring this video is literally worst
@@parauid not nothingburgers, that company is shady
Glad to see you're doing video essays on video games alongside your games that your making because the video game essays are my favorite from you (I still like the game creation ones too though) I look forward to watching every video of yours that pops up on my home page. Keep up the good work man!
Damn I like playing once human, it's so fun.
Plot twist, once human was made in North Korea 😅
my group and i are having loads of fun still 5 weeks into this game. we are just as addicted. i can see why so many people trash the game. there are alot of issues with it and i agree with jack on a few of them. BUT WTF we are still having fun and our hive has no intention on slowing down just yet....All the best!
@@vadim6656 agreed, the one thing I don't understand is how can having all the best mechanics in one game be so won't to some ppl lol also I like the lore and philosophy that's weaved in
@@vadim6656 Fun is the ultimate point, isn't it?? :)
I don't understand some of the "issues" pointed out in the video... like how they mix horror and quirky in the same game. They are not mutually exclusive. You don't have to be either all serious or all corny; I love the atmosphere of OH.
jack going crazy with these uploads
Ok so I am not saying that TFD isn't grindy cuz it sure is, but the comment at 28:00 is lying. Ultimate Descendants can be unlocked somewhere between 10 to 30 hours depending on how lucky/unlucky you are. Idk how they came up with 200h but that's 100% not true.
I got ultimate lepic within like 6 hours its not that bad. Even the hardest ult I've tried so far might total up to 20 hours, playing 2-3 hours a day on week days and then all that weekend.
@@HeartReeves Exactly. 200h is ridiculous.
Congrats on 300K Jack! Oldschool subscriber here! I am so happy to see you getting more recognition
Thank you 🥳🥳
0:43 is that the same fart sound effect as the one in Grave Danger and congrats on 300k
Congrats on 300k mate hope your doing well
You can actually find some of Starry Studios employees on career websites. Just that their roles are kind of as and when needed when they're doing in front of the camera stuff.
its actually crazy how easy it is to find info on the devs. cant believe how much of a deal he made it. honestly slanderous
He cant find information online about a Chinese company...in english so it is a shadowy shell company? Nonsense!
He focused so much on it to emphasize his 2nd point about those studios being new and made with a purpose of pushing games in the west. I agree some criticism isn't valid at this time about em but I can understand the reason he went that route
Pointing fingers at other game companies while being sponsored by world of tanks...... lol
all while WoT has they way shittier monetization and agressive marketing
Who cares, everybody’s gotta eat
Bro you did some fucking serious journalism here. Great video as always. Stoked to see your channel blow up. You deserve it
Honestly I really, REALLY like the first descendant. I see your points, but the enjoyment factor is amazing for me and many others! Great video! 😊
Have you tried Warframe? You can enjoy what you want to enjoy, I take no issue with that, it's just everything First Descendant does has been done better by other games that are nowhere near as predatory. I only off this as a suggestion of being treated better as a consumer for the similar experience and not a demand
@@Phillz91 I think people like the idea of jumping into an experience fresh without competing against players like in warframe who have been playing for years
Yeah.
I said it on one of the streams that Jack Sather is one of the best commentary channels for video games out there he's very good at analysing what games do good and do poor at.
I think its also the humour that comes with it and the editing i think Sather is one of the most reliable and of course best Gaming UA-camrs you can kick back with some hot chocolate and pop in your favourite game while listening to.
Thanks Jack Congrats on 300K
You approached this game as close minded as humanly possible.
Chinese people often have 2 names - one in their native language and a genetic one understandable by westerners. It's very common, just FYI
(Source: my kids are half Chinese and they have 2 names)
Great video - I don't touch these shitty games but I love to learn about them through your perspective!
Source: Trust me bro. Haha jk, thanks man!
NO. Once Human is actually a decent experience. It's a great start compared to other generic older games that were bad, and were way overrated (day z) (7 days to die) etc.
Once Human as of now has plenty of content and things to do but it's clear it's still a work in progress.
"plenty of free games out there that do things ethically"
>posts Banana, a literal ponzi scheme
are you okay?
r/whoosh
Did he assume that Once Human has unethical monetization?:D
dude i took a tactical break from you so i could binge watch your videos and i gotta say i missed you man
You are really stepping up your UA-cam game. This is my favorite channel at the moment and it is so cool to watch you grow and do all kinds of interesting formats. Thanks for this great video! Really wild situation with these games, glad someone is digging a bit deeper.
PS: you are rocking the coder-haircut.
Thanks so much!!
I feel like you've been getting more confident in these videos which lets your personality shine through the camera. I don't care about these games and I still sat through the entire 33 mins because of your style.
People say Asmon has bad takes, but this guy takes the cake
Yeah, when is the "I was wrong about" video come out? :)
All his takes except calling the games not fun and focusing a lot on the hidden studios, are valid.
Even then, fun is subjective and the 2nd one can be explained cause of the 2nd point he wanted to make about what's coming in the western market. Totally understandable
I find both games really fun and I love playing em but I can also totally agree with this criticism.
For once human, they throw a lot of shit together tied up with the supernatural theme but it ends up being a chaotic mess at times without any character of its own.
I havent played wot but Ive heard that it's heavily p2w and filled with microtransactions, however dismissing someone's arguments because they get sponsored by such a game, I find pointless. I understand calling him a hypocrite, but his takes alone on the high af prices and scummy practices of once human and tfd, are valid
@@parauid Nearly all of that first paragraph is subjective. Which it's fine if something is not to ones personal taste, but that isn't a criticism. It being a top played game on Steam means it's ticking the boxes that consumers want ticked. Which is what an entertainment product is supposed to do.
One thing I like about you being a new and upcoming UA-camr is you have respect and credibility unlike Cohh, AngryJoe, TheActMan, etc.
Don't ruin it like they did.
most of your criticism towards half of the video was about marketing. Nothing about gameplay or business practices up to that point. im done
Yeah wished he talked more about the game rather than shitting all over a trailer, I like The First Descendant
Dude your content is like comfort food for me
Imagine complaining about Once Human cosmetic monetization as slimy while promoting War of Tanks in the same video LOL
The same minute! LOL
22:49 wildly underrated joke
You literally have a world of tanks ad in this criticism... Lol
Honestly you are preaching exactly how I feel. Nice video Jack! It'll be interesting to see how the market shifts!
Sponsoring this with world of tanks feels weird at best.
Favorite channel talking about video games. I really appreciate the work you do Jack!
Once Sather
This video as a whole felt particularly inspired, I loved it, great job!
You’re welcome bro. 295,000 of those subs are me.
The ad, so ironic.
sadly its probably pure hypocrisy rather than irony. Unless Jack is a complete fucking idiot.
