I just bought a 3 pack Black FN Pen 2.0, LA420410740. I would like to see a glass bead armored vest tested to see if glass beads could work similar to ceramic armor. The beads would need to be encapsulated in some way so they offer complete coverage without gaps. To hold the beads in place they could be stitched between two layers of kevlar and two layers of stitched glass beads would be overlapped to fill in the gaps where a single layer of beads meet. The glass beads would serve two purposes. First, a hard material that absorbs energy when shattering. Second, causing some deflection due to the round beads. Possibly three layers would be needed.
Your tests with the rifle against the wiggly pipe reminded me of a video I saw the other day about the StG 44 barrel attachment used during World War 2 called; The Krummlauf. It was basically just a slight curved barrel that allowed troops to shoot around corners or over walls, etc, but because of the bend was only able to be used for roughly 100 rounds and turned the rifle more into a shotgun-esque shrapnel spread.
Interestingly there were originally four types of this twisted barrel, but only the smallest bend was used as all others would break within a few hundred shots, were extremely inaccurate, and like you said they were basically worse shotguns. Even then the one that was used was very limited due to the same problems.
@@leflamewolf Yep. Israel fixed this problem by using a mechanical system to aim around corners with a pistol. The front end can be bent around a corner with a pistol on it while you hold it like a rifle. Then, when you pull the trigger, it sends a signal to the lever attached to the pistol trigger, causing it to fire. Pretty neat way to avoid the curved barrel and shrapnel problem.

I don’t understand how someone thought designing vents like that was a good idea in the first place. A direct shot into the bunker with a large enough diameter for a grenade?? What??
I'm not surprised. The biggest question I had was whether the bullet would actually enter the hole rather than just hit the pipe itself. The pipes themselves are pretty thick in the direction of travel of the bullet, so probably more protective than the vest. There are a whole bunch of reasons why this wouldn't be very useful though.
That's basically the idea of slope armor. Have you tried using 2 bulletproof plates to form a V shape, and test how much their protection improves? Must be fun

There are some bullet pipe bending videos out there and they do work in a lot of different scenarios and more effective than you would imagine. The problem with this video's tests is that they are all at point blank range, I think the results will be different with some separation.
1:04 my question is.. why would you want the bullet to circle right around 180 degrees and come back the same way (which probably wont work cos the bullet is travelling too fast)? i can imagine a better way to do this that covers your entire body - why not instead have pipes that cover your entire body so the entire front of your body has pipe holes and all the pipes just curve around slightly around ur body and come out pipe holes at the back and the bullet just keeps going? that way u can get shot from both directions... if u were even more ingenious u might do pipes also going sideways so u can get shot from the side also and a twisted maze of pipes all curving around your entire body.. if u were to add even more tech u might want to use magnets or something to direct the bullet into pipes... imagine a kind of maglev technology that keeps a high speed train floating but instead it does that to a bullet so the bullet never actually hits the pipe around the curves.

I saw him shooting at it in front of it, but at first, I thought the tubes were a big loop right back to the sender. I was like WHY is he shooting at something that will curve the bullets right back at him… 😱
demo ranch did something similar with curved pipe but not as body armor but to see how far it would travel through a curve pipe an it could change direction an the results was actually really surprising, i expected it to either rip out the side of the pipe, break up as soon as it starts hitting an loosing all its velocity really fast or the bullet stays together an just loose the velocity really fast in a short distance almost like shooting into water but it traveled along way b4 it started losing energy but it did rip out the side of the pipe if the curve was to tight so tighter bends had to be at the end of the pipe so the velocity was slow enough to keep it from ripping out the sides.
Yes, the rifle and round designed to go through vehicle engines will go through the side of a pipe. Also - maybe don't stick the pipe right up to the muzzle, so the expansion of gasses isn't weakening the walls before the round hits.
11:58 pm: Starts looking at Steam Deck reviews... *Lights bowl* 12:31am: Couple bowls later I'm watching how to take a cannon to the nuts... The UA-cam rabbit hole never fails to impress
I will say black powder(or Pyreodex which is probably what you were using) is significantly less powerful than a cartridge. The cartridge provides protection to the gun and contains much of the pressure. This means you can both load it spicier and more of that power is imparted on the bullet.
The Germans did in fact used approximately a 90 degree curved barrel to shoot around corners with 9mm. It was by no means standard issued, but it did work.
0:45 - Seriously, I thought those pipes curved all the way around the the object of the experiment was to see if you could send it back at the shooter. So, I was thinking, _"What the hell is the guy doing standing right in front of it like that?"_ lol
Questions immediately arise whether this can be used somehow. Will the effectiveness of armor increase if you add similar pipes to it, only with a much larger number of entrances in front so that you don't have to aim, and exits from behind? And if you don't forget to add a lightweight bulletproof vest to protect against shrapnel and collapsing pipes (so that the total mass is no more than the mass of a standard bulletproof vest) under this pipe system? The idea is that modern bulletproof vests suffer all the time with the problem of energy distribution, which has arrived at one point. If some of the energy is not absorbed, then we can win in the effectiveness of such a protection system. The question is, how much energy does the bullet transfer to the pipe system while it ricochets off its walls
depends on the shape of the bullet and the strength of the resistance the pipes have. but then it would all just be relied on velocity weather the bullet is weaker vs a stronger bullet.
Would having the insides of the tube with grooves that look like a whirlpool help ? Im imagining the bullet’s air pressure continue it’s rotation for smoother curving? 🌀
Imagine building a whole pipe system in your house, plus a camera in every room. And then you just shoot into the pipes from your bedroom if intruders get in 💀
Imagine a bulky layer of tuba-like ricochet plating over vehicles, threaded together to cover the circumference of the vehicle and fully modular to disassemble and repair on base. The edges could be widened and filed for better 'catching'. Projectiles could be shot back out at attackers or else upwards. Shooting at it makes music!
