Thank you for this video! I made an adorable hat for my 3 pound grand baby that was born two months premature and is in the NICU. I’m going to bring her hat to her this weekend. Thanks again!
One of the best crochet videos i have tried to follow. So clearly explianed, slowly and showing clearly where to insert. Also the instructions, yarn over etc, are very helpfull for beginners. Finally there is no accent, and th english is super clear. Great work
I thank you ssssssssssoooooo much I dislike the magic ring with a great passion and I was very happy to find this, great wisdom showing it both ways ,you have great teaching skills, may God continue you with your talent, looking forward seeing more teaching , I have tried so many other baby hats and none came out this small, again blessing I was very happy to find this, rain was pouring so heavy , you writing the instructions helped me because I was not hearing your teaching
Due to lockdown I can't get any hat for my newborn.then watching your channel I start my first ever crochet and ihave done one now.thank you somuch for your easy work and clear explaining. ...
Congrats on your newborn! It sure is a strange time right now! I’m glad you were able to make something instead! There’s a new video for this beanie (more in dept instructions) if you’re interested. It’s provide in the video and description box. If you enjoy the content, please subscribe! Much appreciated! Take care, stay safe and congrats on your new bundle of joy!
Your are absolutely a great teacher!!!!! I love the way you show where to place that “1st” st at the end of a row!!!!!!! So many instructors don’t do that…I never know whether the first stitch is right under the chain 1-2 or 3, or is it in the “Next” stitch…….when they are not clear on this, I have to count backwards and see what stitch is the “first” one 😖… bc as you know, if you don’t place it correctly, your stitch count will be off…..can you do more Baby items? ty. And I love doing blankets too….. I’m bad at matching colors and how many rows to do if you’re working on several colors……..
Thank you for the kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed it and was able to understand it. There’s a new tutorial that replaces this one if you’re interested. It’s linked. What type of baby patterns are you looking for?
Hi I love this tutorial one of the easiest yet However I've got chunky wool and 8mm hook I'm trying to make it a bit bigger mine came out far too small ....could you tell me how many stitches to start with for a 0 to 3 month ? And 3 to 6 months many thanks x
I’m glad you enjoyed it. Check out the newer updated video (linked in description). That might answer your questions. The blog is also linked with the sizing chart.
Glad you enjoyed it! In case you missed it, there’s a new video for this tutorial linked in the description box and in the video itself. Happy hooking! 💕
Great tutorial. Easy to follow. However, I would believe that a chunky yarn would be more scratchy for an infant. Would I be able to do a half dbl crotchet instead of a double? If so , how many chains for the beginning of each round? Thank you. This pattern is so much easier than the increases of 1 stitch, then 2 stitches repeated. Thank you.
😇💜 I am making this beanie, right now and, I have decided to use the since circle, for a cleaner look at the top of the beanie.🤗 I have made two different beanies before, one being more complicated, and the other one, very similar to this one.🤗💜 I L 💚 VE To Crochet.🤗💜
Your video is great and easy to follow. The only problem is the magic circle. I've read many complaints in crochet groups about it letting go along the way if it isn't tied off before it's woven in. Weaving it in and cutting off the extra is not anchoring it. It needs to be knotted first. Otherwise, your video is spot on.
Thanks! I've been searching for this chunky yarn. I'm using bernat softee chunky too. I already made a beanie from another tutorial, but the yarn wasn't same. So I got trouble with the size. Again, thank you!
This pattern works great with Bernat Blanket yarn! Do you have a pattern for matching baby booties, no scratch mitts, or diaper cover using the same size yarn? Very hard to find baby items made with the chunky yarn, but it's so super soft yarn that it seems perfect for baby items! Thanks very much! 😇
This is old. I can’t remember but there’s a video that goes into step by Step instructions. Should work for this weight yarn too. Crochet Basic Top Down Beanie Tutorial (Any Size) ua-cam.com/video/YPfg6ByvOXc/v-deo.html

How do you know how many stiches to add to extend for a 6-12 month old? I'm a Newbie crocheter 😁... I made the Newbie Beanie, THANKS for the tutorial 👍🏽
I have a new video that should have been linked on this video for worsted weight but you can apply super bulky weight to it. It is a comprehensive step-by-step for any size. ua-cam.com/video/YPfg6ByvOXc/v-deo.html
I had no idea you had a youtube channel. I have been an instagram follower. Very nice to hear and see you. I hope you have a microphone added cause you are very soft spoken. Looking forward to more vids.
GettinginLine Caroline thank you! Welcome over here to UA-cam. I wasn’t really active until recently. This one is very old. I had to do “voice over” after my kiddos went to bed and since they are in the room, I had to speak quietly. Lol my recent videos are louder (I hope) hehe
thank you, magic ring very helpful. Only suggestion is speak a little louder, I had a hard time hearing your comments, regardless, video was very helpful. Much appreciated.
Shelley McIntosh oh! You can still follow the Same structuring for chunky yarn. Follow the chart and it should all work out the same. There’s a link to the blog which includes the downloadable chart. You can even use single or half double crochet sts instead. Sorry about my “matter of fact” quick response last night while I was putting sugar high kids to bed lol
Wowwwww tht was soooooo nice of u..if possible plz lemme knw if u hve anythng on lil booties also.I wanna crochet it for my baby bfre she arrives in my world n am gonna crochet this beautiful beanie this weeknd as i need to get this type of wool frm walmart.plz do mention me once again the name of da bernat wool u used n also lemme knw whether i can get tht wool in multicolour or fouble colour like tht? Great video! Quick question, I went to your etsy shop looking for more sizes for this pattern and did not see any or on your website. Do you have other sizes for this pattern or only the newborn size? I was also looking for the chart link you mentioned in the video and missed it! I prefer this chunky pattern over the small crochet pattern in all sizes :) Thanks!
Hi Megan! You may already have the info that you need but I thought I would share this link anyway just in case. :) Phanessa's chart is on the link. I just watched the video for this beanie and she explains how to use her chart and measure to get the sizes you need/want with just about any pattern. I am a huge fan of chunky yarn also. www.designsbyphanessa.com/single-post/Crochet-Basic-Top-Down-Beanie-Any-size-Pattern-Tutorial
The video is excellent but, you are soft spoken. Could you please turn up the volume of your microphone because you have the tendency to whisper when explaining.Thank you very much.
this video is really old. there's links to an update video. I have 3 very loud kids when recording and had to do "voice over" quietly when they were asleep next to me.

You could ch1 and not count it for the hdc or you can ch2 and count that as the first hdc
Thank u for this tutorial. I didn't have any chucky yarn, but I did use #4 size yarn two strands and it came out perfect...I love it!!!

Hate when I’m trying to follow a pattern and there’s ads every five seconds
Means they've monetized their videos and opted to have ads show *during* their videos. Blame the creator.
This is how creators make money by sharing their free tutorials/content.
