I've been trying to tell people this. I've even seen UA-camrs say in the middle of a review that they are downloading something then go on to complain about the performance. I have facepalmed a lot over this.

Ik I'm late to the video but my cousin told me about one of these as he was researching about Backbones and other devices. I started researching and came across this video. I plan on going to the Dominican in April (I live in Iowa for reference) do you think it would be able to connect even though I am out of the country?
It’s not just 5mbps download but 5mbps upload as well and while the hotel had a download of 5 it’s upload was a 3 which is why the portal couldn’t connect cause it’s below Sony minimum requirements. Please fully understand what your reviewing before you post and make people hate on the device when your actually the one that’s incorrect and misinformed about the speeds required
Thanks for the comment, I’m just trying to help fellow gamers & I think your being a bit harsh on me there, I’m not misinforming anyone or making people hate on anything, it was an example to show when you have speeds like “x” this is what will happen, as it’s a real world example, and I’ve had loads of people asking me will it run on this speed or that speed so this is to help them see what it would be like in this example. @@purepsx also in that part of the vita you doubted PlayStations minimum requirements since yours wasn’t working but all you focused on was the download speed being 5 while ignoring your upload speed of 3 . Sony never said download speed only its both you a minimum of 5mbps download and 5mbps upload speed for the portal to work as intended

@@ishotudropdead this is all Sony states directly on there website, and that’s not important I still don’t think the minimum of 5mps is suitable for a good gaming experience you want faster like I said - this is what it says on the Sony ps portal page - *PlayStation Portal™ Remote Player can stream compatible games installed on your PS5 console. PlayStation Portal™ Remote Player requires broadband internet Wi-Fi with at least 5Mbps for use.
Does youre ps5 need to be in rest mode or can you turn it off? also if you got Call of Duty MW3 on a disc instead of downloaded in the PS store it still works?
Ps5 needs to be in rest mode, and yeah you can play disc game too just make sure it’s in the ps5! Are you thinking about picking up a PlayStation portal!?
Awesome cant wait to try it out. Anbody else having joystick clicks when rotating the stick 360 degrees. Ive heard its happening to one or both. It doesnt affect my games in anyway but it's a little annoying knowing another brand new sony device is having issues out of the box. Im having flash backs to my launch ps5 console shutting down when i would try and play ps5 games on it (happened 3 times sony fixed it twice but refused a third time because the warranty for the broken conaole was void lol) i had to buy the ps5 slim console to have a ps5 that runs ps5 games. So i essentially have a rare over priced ps4 and a slim. I am wondering if they will exchange the portal for a new one.....probably not....they need managers you can speak to at sony customer service.

How far from home were you? I picked this up today and love it so far at home but me and my m8 are meeting up at his around 20 miles from my home for a sesh so can I just connect to his internet and I can still connect to my ps5 from his home 🤔
Well otherwise there is only me who sees the horrible persistence of the screen? Genre of ghosting/ motion Blur well pronounced according to the game I compare several times in a row with the remote PC, Chiaki and Xbox remote, it’s only on the screen of the PS portal. Or I’m the only one with bionic eyes or it’s my console that has a problem
Is this on your console or looking at UA-cam videos? As UA-cam compresses the video quality so it doesn’t do it justice, also there has recently been a software update to the portal 👍

I don't know man. Even when the download was 8mbps or on the 4G and that you said the gameplay was smooth, I am seeing considerable stutters and hitches. DF has said that even in bast case scenario, the latency is about 5 frames or 80ms on top of system latency. That is REALLY not good.
Cool, I know what you mean but Honestly UA-cam video doesn’t do it justice, I’ve been really impressed with it, I get what DF say but unless your playing multiplayer or competitive games I doubt you will notice, for chilling on the sofa playing Spider-Man or something while the tv is in use it is fantastic, are you thinking about picking one up? Hi can you able help with my portal please, I set up my son ps5 at home enable remote play and rest mode. When I’m out of the house he can not connect to ps5? When we are home portal will connect! I have tried my phone hotspot and also internet connection. I did work when I ask my son keep his ps5 on and I walk down the street use phone hotspot that worked but ps5 has to be turn on at all times?
@@purepsx yes, I have the PS portal but I had to hook mine up to a Internet connection for better performance. The reason I asked you that question is because I wanted to know the reason I was not able to connect to a hotspot because I had a wireless connection back home. That was terrible
@@mr_216 That was me too until I have done some research. The upload speed at home makes or breaks it. I hard wired PS5 to WiFi modem with 5GHz connection and after that it is seamless. Also as PS5 is in rest mode it will download software updates at the background and when it does - lag will be there. So, I always check and the last couple of times it was because of software and game updates. After that it was fine.
Yeah. Better bring along a Switch of one of them android retro handhelds. The Portal's reliance on internet stability--especially when traveling far and away, SUCKS big time!
Also I might add that if you have T-Mobile you can forget it working on your phone. It’ll only work on Hotspot for some odd reason. Meaning Ps portal or an iPad might be your only solution
Ok but why not just use remote play on your phone and carry a controller with you it's less weight and achieves the same outcome because if you need your phone anyways for a hotspot carrying the portal around over just a controller is kind of pointless
have you tried the portal yet? It really is sooo much better than playing on my mobile phone with a controller, and i love that i can wake up my PS5 from anywhere and just start playing... I feel they are probbably for different use cases too tho as the phone is great for just out and about but knowing I was going away its cool to take the portal as its the better playing experience, but for everyday just being out and about the mobile will be fine
@@halfmanamazing549 I'm not dropping $200 to try something my phone can do for free and the screen is as big as an entire PSP so it's a non issue it's like 1 inch smaller than the PS Portal's screen also my phone has an OLED screen and the PS Portal does not
Have you tried? Is light years better than remote on a phone, trust me. I have this and I also have a iPhone + backbone, the Portal is on another level
This thing is barely playable at home. It’s super difficult going to something that has internet lag when the big ps5 has no lag at all and runs way better. I found the PS vita to run smoother natively and less laggy than the portal on local games like GT7, GTA, and God of war. Just won’t think I will keep it the latency isn’t really worth it on this platform to me. (1000MBPS fyos)
So ive bought a portal, actually 2 in 24 hrs but thats another story. Im wanting to use it on 5g, via s23 android. But so far not managed to connect. My conclusion so far is it doesnt work, but are there any settings im unaware of regarding mobiles?

I have a question, I’m going away for Easter to my in-laws (They’re in Germany I live in the uk). They have I believe 1gbps WiFi. I’m looking to get a portal for when I’m there. My question is how would the portal preform when I’m there? I play a lot of fps games such as warzone would the latency be too much for a game like this? Obviously I can play other story games too.
I'm US based and I travel to the UK for work. I have my PS5 at home on an ethernet cable and the key to playing on my Portal away from home is a GOOD STABLE UPLOAD speed from home. Mine is consistently 45mbps. So as long as the WiFi DOWNLOAD where you're staying is solid, you'll be good to go my friend! I also followed the other set up tips on this channel and others, changing some settings on both the PS5 and Portal, which cleaned up my remote gameplay. I have no issues when I'm in the UK remoting in to my PS5 other than it sometimes taking longer to establish a connection when outside of the home network - so be patient. Just remember; the PS5 has to be either powered on or in rest mode. The Portal will not turn on the PS5 from off (I learned that the hard way).
@@TreyZyllaBest Buy has them for shipping right now if you haven’t gotten one yet. I was lucky and got one from Target. Had to drive 40 miles but it wasn’t too bad.
So funny enough I’m catching a flight to Aruba in a few hours and I’m debating whether I should bring my Portal with me or not. I don’t know if it’ll connect or work outside the States, anyone know?
Amazing stuff! It will work anywhere as long as you have a strong and consistent enough WiFi speed and you have set up your PlayStation for running the portal, let us know if you decided to take your portal!

i didnt set up port forwarding, that sucks! ive heard some people routers may need to set up port forwarding if they have problems, its always been fine for me tho, whats your router model?

the phone will waist battery on it only use it for txting and sometimes its hard to see on the small phone while playin i would rather use 8 inch 60 hrtzs if you got a better wifi it wont be a problem
What a dumb question to ask… I prefer the Portal over any phone or tablet 10 outta 10 the PS Portal is superior. Firstly ppl call and text phones, secondly screen size and graphics, lastly it looks way COOLER than any other handheld. Just scrape up about $500.00 n go grab a PS5 after that round up $200.00 n go get the PS Portal
I've been remote playing since PS3 days.... I dislike playing on my phone it's too small(note20 ultra). I still have my jailbroken PSP but again it's to small for me to enjoy playing a console game for an extended time. I've been enjoying remote play on my Samsung tab 8 plus especially when traveling, prior to that I was using my laptop but it's a inconvenience to carry a PS4/PS5 controller with a tablet/laptop just to remote play. Finally there's a all in one device that's reasonable priced to do so. Yes I can get a steamdeck that has more capability but I'm not going to spend $159 more when I'm only looking for to remote play and when I'm a predominantly a PlayStation console player.. That's just me tho...

Try the portal and you will be amazed on how good it really is.

No it doesn’t , you can connect it to any WiFi, I’ve used this on my WiFi, hotel WiFi, my friends WiFi and my mobile hotspot.

My question is how would the portal preform when I’m there? I play a lot of fps games such as warzone would the latency be too much for a game like this? Obviously I can play other story games too.
I'm US based and I travel to the UK for work. I have my PS5 at home on an ethernet cable and the key to playing on my Portal away from home is a GOOD STABLE UPLOAD speed from home. Mine is consistently 45mbps. So as long as the WiFi DOWNLOAD where you're staying is solid, you'll be good to go my friend! I also followed the other set up tips on this channel and others, changing some settings on both the PS5 and Portal, which cleaned up my remote gameplay.
I have no issues when I'm in the UK remoting in to my PS5 other than it sometimes taking longer to establish a connection when outside of the home network - so be patient. Just remember; the PS5 has to be either powered on or in rest mode. The Portal will not turn on the PS5 from off (I learned that the hard way).

@@TreyZyllaBest Buy has them for shipping right now if you haven’t gotten one yet. I was lucky and got one from Target. Had to drive 40 miles but it wasn’t too bad.

Amazing stuff! It will work anywhere as long as you have a strong and consistent enough WiFi speed and you have set up your PlayStation for running the portal, let us know if you decided to take your portal!
@@purepsx yeah all my settings are set up and my PS5 is on a LAN connection, with Spectrum 1 gig internet. I will take it, hoping the AirBnB has very good wifi over there

return it and buy a steam deck you can play most games locally just fine and thanks to sony porting their exclusives to pc you can play them on steam deck since its a handheld pc@@BankaiNightmare

This guys has no clue what's he's doing and saying. He has upload speed of 3Mbps in the hotel and doesn't know that he's under the minimum requirements and complains about it? i didnt set up port forwarding, that sucks! ive heard some people routers may need to set up port forwarding if they have problems, its always been fine for me tho, whats your router model?
@@purepsx I dunno mate I'm gonna have to look when I get back just some random BT hub model router I guess. Proper let down though, I usually work from home so only ever used it when my kid was watching the big TV. I should have tested it before leaving.

you can play offline games from your PS5 but you need an internet connection to connect your portal to the PS5, so you need internet either way

the phone will waist battery on it only use it for txting and sometimes its hard to see on the small phone while playin i would rather use 8 inch 60 hrtzs if you got a better wifi it wont be a problem

What a dumb question to ask… I prefer the Portal over any phone or tablet 10 outta 10 the PS Portal is superior. Firstly ppl call and text phones, secondly screen size and graphics, lastly it looks way COOLER than any other handheld. Just scrape up about $500.00 n go grab a PS5 after that round up $200.00 n go get the PS Portal
I've been remote playing since PS3 days.... I dislike playing on my phone it's too small(note20 ultra). I still have my jailbroken PSP but again it's to small for me to enjoy playing a console game for an extended time.
I've been enjoying remote play on my Samsung tab 8 plus especially when traveling, prior to that I was using my laptop but it's a inconvenience to carry a PS4/PS5 controller with a tablet/laptop just to remote play.
Finally there's a all in one device that's reasonable priced to do so.
Yes I can get a steamdeck that has more capability but I'm not going to spend $159 more when I'm only looking for to remote play and when I'm a predominantly a PlayStation console player..
