    Im tempted to get one for serveral reasons: 1. It gives a lot of busy people a chance to play games when they can without being stuck to a chair. 2. It shows Sony that the demand for portable consoles never died and that they could be working on a dedicated portable console.

    • @dioskoro
      @dioskoro 2 місяці тому +7

      This thing works because it requires little to no additional overhead to Sony.
      A dedicated handheld means they need to restructure their game development to accommodate the lower powered handheld device so they can make low/mid settings available for games (assuming they will treat it as same platform, just weaker relative to the home console version)
      Another consideration is how will they price it? The console itself is already sold at a loss, now imagine a PS5-lite portable. I’d say it will be at 400-500 range but its going to be a tough sell given that it will be a weaker version of the PS5 while being priced the same (if not more).
      Now if we want a literal PSP2/PSVita2, it aint gonna happen. Game development is at an all time high, there’s no scenario where Sony will further spread its resources to support a dedicated platform.
      Switch works because it is a hybrid. Steamdeck works because it is literally a handheld PC. Sony essentially needs to either make a hybrid (unlikely) or make a PS5-lite for it to gain traction.

    • @joshuabray37
      @joshuabray37 3 години тому

      Sony REALLY needs to start making portables again. I just got my first PSP's (I got 2, cheap, in Japan) and a PS Vita (also got "cheap" in Japan). Even 10/20 years later, they are really neat.

    This kind of convinced me. I dont play the PS5 enough on the weekends when I have the chance because it is a hassle to basically shunt everyone out of the way for it, and staying up late to do it is a bit difficult if you are tired. I travel a fair bit for work and family reasons and one thing that does get at me is down time where I could be doing something else, UA-cam often ending up being the best option. As I live in Japan, I think the wifi will usually be up to the task and my PS5 is connected by cable. However, I have bought a number of other things in the past which I didnt really use so I am a bit cautious. This rundown helped a lot as always, thanks MJR!

    I was reluctant to get a Portal at first myself but I also game at work on night shift. It's a factory job and all the big wigs are gone so we take hour long breaks like 6 times in a 12 hour shift. So plenty of time to game. I at first was lugging around a Tab S8 ultra which is a 15 inch oled but I also had to bring a controller, headphones, etc. This is basically a all in one. I got a carrying case for it that also stores my headphones, wired charger and battery bank. I leave it and it fits perfectly in my locker at work.
    Now I personally don't play the "pretty games" like God of War, Ghosts of Tsushima, etc. I save that for my home theatre. I use this to mainly play my backlog of PS4 games like RDR1 thats 1080p or games that require a lot of grinding MK Invasions. I save the best looking games to experience on the big screen.

    The biggest con for me is that you can only associate one PS5 user at a time with the PS Portal. Meaning, if you want to play as a different user, you literally have to reset the connection of the PS5 and do all of the setup work just to use a different user from the console. I wish MJR mentioned that cause that is one of the biggest cons imo. If you’re a sole user, then it doesn't matter. But this is a huge overight.

    I bought the Portal when it first came out. I was soo excited to be able to play my PS5 games when the rest of the family wants to watch TV. My ps5 is hardwired and I have Gig ethernet. Unfortunately, this thing CONSTANTLY disconnects even using my own home network. When it works, it's great, but the constant disconnects made me put this device back in my closet. Very disappointed to say the least.
    I might give it another shot since you were mentioning firmware updates. Maybe that will help with the connectivity issues. I can't even imagine playing this device across the world like you are. As a over the road truck driver that leaves home for atleast couple weeks at a time and can't use the ps5...i think this little toy will definitely work great for me. Playing an hour or 2 after a long day of driving will definitely be a great way to relax. Could probably do my daily contracts in TnL...lol
    Thanks for the video

    This is why thr Switch is still the GOAT, no Internet connection required. If you are on a 12 hour flight, it cokes in handy.

      Maybe. But the Portal was made for PLAYSTATION games. You can't play Ghost of Tsushima or God of War on Switch.

    I use my 16" macbook pro with the remote play app with the PS5 controller plugged in. Much bigger display and can still use to watch movies etc. One big con to remote play in my experience besides the latency, is if your PS5 loses power at home and goes out of rest mode at any point, you can no longer remote play unless someone is physically there to turn the PS5 back on. They should have it so devices that support remote play, can turn the PS5 on even if its not in rest mode.

    My WiFi got me one for my birthday in March. And it was good. But when I connected my PS5 hardwire that immensely improved it. When I was in Jamaica it was as close a 100% at home experience as it could get. I was wrong in the beginning but I now love it and even carry it with me o the barbershop
