In this movie....three men (Brody, Quint, and Hooper) are sent out to kill a menace shark they don’t have much luck. It’s a struggle. The great shark eventually starts getting the better of them.
However, Quint eventually comes up with an idea. Attach three barrels to the shark tied to the boat and then he’ll drive him right to the shallow waters of the shore to suffocate the shark. It’s a brilliant idea. The win’s in the bag. They got this.
But Quint being the big shot he is doesn’t listen to Hooper about the fragile engine. As Hooper lectures him, Quint pushes him away and goes even faster.....as smoke starts getting thicker from the engine and the arrow on the gauge is as high as it can go. He even boastingly sings a song.
Of course, not before long.....the engine does blow/explode.....ripping a hole into the ship....causing water to get into the ship and eventually sink.
Quint inspects the damage, then passes out the life preservers and then folds him arms all nonchalant like as the boat continues to sink. - Ігри

It was at this moment that Quint knew...
...he f*cked up.
Except he didn't want to and would never admit it to his mates.
3:00
That's when the shark 🦈 knew that Quint had screwed up.
It decided to do its final rest and recharge before doing the final deadly attack
Too bad Mr Wellington wasn't there to make him eat crickets or dog food.
One of the greatest movies in cinema history. And it just keeps getting more classic each year.
You're going to need a bigger boat is SUCH a classic line
@glamrock chica the plastic toy I'd have to say mine too. Hell ,it got me on a plane to go to Martha's vineyard for all the locations

Sharks also became one of my favorite animals because of Jaws and Great White Sharks are my favorite sharks.
Jaws even has two videogame adaptations called Jaws Unleashed and Jaws Ultimate Predator where we actually play as Bruce the Shark himself
This scene signified that Quint had a personal quest to defeat the shark and running back to shore for him was like admitting defeat, I think it explains the madness of this moment
Robert Shaw said in a interview he felt like bursting into tears when he left the Quint character! Hey Chiefy hey hoops just brilliant stuff 👍
Shaw, and Drufuss, were at the best. Brady in point
When hoop tells him not to pu that much pressure on it and you immediately here Quiny throttle even harder cracks me up everytime.
I lost it when Quint started speaking in tounges, as a kid I lost it with "HEYTEE HEYTEE"!! 🤣🤣
I laugh Everytime he tells Hooper to shut up!
Been looking for this scene all over...the orca should be in a museum now its scrap wood.
What a waste
Aww man!
@@brisjapenseboyfriendyaoi4869 I know it sucks...cut my arm off to see that boat
The shark can eat it

Brody: Oh is it another fishing trip?
Quint: No it's this Sandwich *nails Sandwich to a pole*
Hopper: A sandwich? You expect me to break my back over a sandwich?
Quint: Not a Sandwich the Sandwich *throws a plate of Sandwiches into the water*
Hopper: Whatever we got plenty more to...
Brody and Hopper have surprised looks on their faces
Quint: *grins insanely and hilariously holding the entire fridge over the water*
*Drops the fridge in the water water splashing*
Hopper: Eat
Quint: Now I know we understand each other nobody eats until I get me Millionth Dollar Back
I always loved this scene, they way Quint basically just mentally breaks down
Amazing unforgettable memories
My favorite detail in the whole movie is Quint always sings his "Farewell and adieu" song when death is on his mind. When talking to Hooper about the shark cage he sings it, after inferring that Hooper will die if he goes in the water with it. After his Indianapolis story where he recounts the death of hundreds of men, he sings it. In this scene when he realizes that his plan is failing and the ship will run out of steam, he sings it maniacally, expecting that they're all probably going to die soon.
Roy Scheider said it best ' Jaws will go on forever'.
I pinpoint 2:03 being the exact moment that Quint lost his mind.
To further prove this he's still NOT ONLY driving the boat but singing after the engine blows at 2:31
Actually - I think he lost it at the start of the scene - coming out looking disorientated; the rest was simply him playing it out.
To really be truthful though, I don't think he was ever in the right mind. In a deleted scene he mocks a kid's flute when it doesn't play right.....really annoying him.
@@VanillaLimeCoke I think Quint lived his life, after the Indianapolis, both as a blood-avenger (shark hunting) and a man on borrowed time ("I'll never put on a life jacket again..."). And the irony of it all that no mariner (salty Quint and clever Hooper) could outfight or outwit this sea monster, but that it was vanquished on a lucky shot by an aquaphobe. What a story. Thanks for putting up this scene clip.
"Quint dammit"!! Quint - "SHUT UP"! then starts speaking in tongues.
Something like, "Get down, I run the instruments!" lol!
Fun fact. When the Orca dies at 2:31 the sound effects are from 007 Goldfinger when Oddjob destroys his car at the scrap metal factory lol
Neat little connection, as Robert Shaw played Red Grant in the Sean Connery 007 film, “From Russia with love”.
The orca was never blown up. Just sound effects.
Quint is mad. He destroyed the radio and the engine of Orca. He should have listened to Brody and Hooper
He never thought he was in danger till it was too late
wuldnt have much of a movie then would it?
"YOU'RE CERTIFIABLE QUINT YOU KNOW THAT"?!!!
That part of the film when quint starts to realise he’s bitten off more than he can chew, the acting by all three of them here is a masterclass
Quint went a bit insane
Matt Hooper: Quint, Goddammit!
Quint: SHUT UP, GET BACK THERE! IF I BREAK IT-
Matt Hooper: IT'S Y-
3:54
Hooper's pi$$ed off look is priceless
That engine knocking in essence is almost like the Orca’s heartbeat in sense….serendipitous symbolism peeps!

When he sings Spanish lady in this scene it always gives me chills
This one part of the movie I could never understand as why Quint intentionally burns out the engine to seal his fate...If he had not done this they would have made it back to shore...
Tell me about it man.
He was probably drunk
Quint knows he’s defeated and can’t go back to shore then starts singing and so never more shall I see you again⚓️
@@thegrayghost704
That’s what I said originally in my comic I wrote about this scene after first seeing it back in April 2001.
I don't think it was intentional, I think he just got too arrogant and was blinded in the moment thinking he was about to finally kill the shark and get all that money, and he wanted it to happen as soon as possible so he pushed the engine too hard
Like a life preserver gonna help you with a shark in the water. That was the best!
It was a reference back to his earlier story when he survived the sinking of the Indianapolis: "I'll never put on a life jacket again"
I'd rather drown
Hooper: Quint, don't put that much pressure on it!
Quint: (revs it even higher, while whistling)
Me: 😂😂😂😂
I've never seen Quint so determined. Not only does he ignore Brody's advice on getting a bigger boat and destroy his own radio, but he also blows up his boat's engine, causing his boat to sink even before the shark attacks it, thus Quint meets his fate in the end.
Ego, it was his downfall.
Got himself killed.

Quint: *pulls back double doors revealing the John Williams band playing Bruce's theme song* There you are you stinkin bilge rats STOP PLAYING THAT MUSIC STOP IT PLEASE I'M BEGGING YA.

Quint don't put that much pressure on it. Quint GODDAMN IT! Great! You did it, you burned out the bearings.
How does Robert Shaw not get an Oscar? Or at least a nomination?
I know right.

There's an undeniable parallel between Jaws and Moby Dick.
Could you imagine being chased on a boat by those barrels and knowing what's pulling them. My Father told me when this played in theaters everybody was silent except for the occasional, "Can you believe this?" quote. Hunters became the hunted!
My favorite scene! Quint gets crazy and wants to beat Bruce to the shore to drown him. He doesn’t listen to Hooper about the engine lol! He’s too pumped
This is basically what happened to my car when my water pump blew up. The engine overheated and the car filled with black smoke. Through sheer force of will and smoke inhalation, I made it to the office on time that day though.
The orcas engine holding on for dear life
2:04 fucks up the engine and doesn't care!😂😂😂
He's just happy that he got Hooper off his back there
But now he's just putting more pressure on the gas pedal which soon of course blows the engine.
Quint: He can't stay down with three barrels on him, not with three barrels
he can't.
Martin: What about us?
Quint: Hooper, get the pump outta the locker in front of you, will you?
Martin: We're gonna sink aren't we?
Quint: Hooper, keep an eye on the barrels! Pump it out, chief!
Hooper: He's gonna go under!
Quint: I tell ya, he can't with three barrels on him! Not with three he
can't!
Shark goes under the water.
Hooper: You ever have one do this before?
Quint: I don't know. --

I'll have to go back and put the captions on to see what exactly he said.
For years I've been mimicking this scene from Mrs. Doubtfire where I thought for sure when Daniel was turning back into Mrs. Doubtfire to give Mrs. Sellner a cup of tea it sounded like he muttered, "God che-inta-say" but in the captions it said "cup of tea, I'll give her a cup of TNT"
But I like "God che-inta-say" better although my priest still says it's taking the Lord's name in vain......I think it's more self control then actually saying a curse word.
But that's just my opinion.

It would have been great to have seen Quint's character survive for one final showdown in Jaws 2. I think Jaws 2 could have been epic had all three come together again to kill the 2nd shark.

Alright stop the boat... Stop the boat... STOP IT!!!!!!
I always wondered.......
What if he didn't stop the engine???
If they just kept going....
Maybe......they could have made it to shore.....
Hmm....
Probably not likely
Sounds like my jeep going down the freeway
In the indianapolis speech he talked about he and the crew were alone.. no one came to help when the sharks attacked..the viewer then understands quints hatred and animosity towards sharks..Quint didn’t listen to hooper and purposely destroyed his boat for the same reason he destroyed the radio…..he didn’t want anyone’s help this time in defeating the shark.. it was a personal battle between him and the shark for what occurred when the Indianapolis sank….in the end and what makes Spielberg brilliant is Quint realizes his ego has destroyed his boat and himself when he looks around and then hands out the life jackets..in the scene that followed this asks hooper if he can kill it with the cage…Quint realizes he can’t do it alone
After seeing this movie over 150 times, I will go on record as saying Brody was 'dead-weight' on that boat. He didn't want to chum, he didn't want to pump out water, he wanted to call home, he brought his cap pistol...DEAD WEIGHT. And for a guy who was afraid to die, he sure as heck smoked alot of cigarettes out there!
They make these things called tripods for both cameras and phones. Works great!
Only thing with tripods is it seems like the brightness/darkness gets awkward I’ve noticed.
I think Quint made up a lot of his lines! Back at the dock he is telling Chief Brody to break it up when saying good bye to his wife. Then quint says..women these days, can’t handle nothing.! 😂
Why did Quint break the boat
Because he is mad. He destroyed the radio and the engine of Orca. He should have listened to Brody and Hooper
As he mentioned before, he was most afraid of what happened to him on the Indianapolis, waiting his turn whilst his shipmates were being eaten alive. It was the fear of putting a life jacket to not drown but then to get eaten by a shark. He was reliving his nightmare, he knew this shark had "beaten" him, he couldn't possibly kill it. So he decided to sink the ship, give the lifejackets to Brody and Hooper so he could drown rather than be eaten alive. Sadly for his character though, his worst fears came true.
@@Romulan2469 he still had 2 more barrels he could have used to get the shark with too tho. He gave up too easily
@@ENTERTAINMENT35 The shark was too big in size for 5 barrels to be effective they would've needed at least 10 LOL
This is my take on it!
Quint didn't want brody to call the coast guard or get a bigger boat because that would have ment he would have failed to kill the shark himself and he wouldn't have took the cash and the glory, the same reason I think he blow the boats engine! If he was going to capture the shark or kill it then in his mind nobody else was! I think there was alot of ego and pride on the line ! For quint it was kill or be killed and we all know how that ended!
What's with the 1:66 aspect ratio
SHUT UP GET BACK THERE!!!!!!!! 😆😆😆😆😆
did you film this while on a helicopter?
Say what???

2:31 look what happens
I just find it funny how he continues to sing after the explosion for a couple more seconds.
Thus proves he really did lose his mind.

Brody: *pulls his fishing line* Easy easy *pulls up the dollar* SHE MADE IT
Quint: Hahaha *holds his millionth dollar happily* For a second or two I thought she was a goner

I literally just realized at 3:58, Quint hands each of the guys a life jacket, but doesn’t have one for himself. They say captains go down with their boat.
All my life, I never caught that. Quint realized he screwed up, and turns to Hooper to see what he can do.
Also said during his Indianapolis speech “I’ll never put on a life jacket again”
@@michaelmcgahey977 Was just gonna comment this
I believe that Quint knew he would one day meet his own fate at sea, by the might of the waves or the jaws of a shark, and I daresay he would have preferred the horrible, painful way he went out to dying on land as an old man in a rocking chair! That's my take, anyways. One of the coolest movies, and movie characters ever!👊🏻 #honorthemancrushthecan

1:39…if he’d just ‘slowly’ swallowed his pride right there, right there at that very moment…perhaps the shark wouldn’t have swallowed him! 🩸🦈

It's not funny... its his last stand.... and quint know's it.
I can't help wonder if Quint blew up his boat's engine on purpose?
It would assume so.
I mean Hooper warned him so......and he shoved him aside.
@@VanillaLimeCoke He obviously didn't want to return to shore without killing the shark - or die trying to at least. Of course, he couldn't kill the shark, so he chose the second option.

I guess so. But he had said he was going to draw the shark into shore and suffocate him to begin with.
@@VanillaLimeCoke Oh, yeah, lure the shark back to shore where the tourists are on the beach, that would've guaranteed a free meal for the shark.
@@VanillaLimeCoke And the shark was chasing them, so maybe he was trying to outrun it so it wouldn't catch up to them, that's probably why he was gunning his boat's engine too fast.
2 questions; why are you watching Jaws in 4:3 aspect ratio, and why does it look unnaturally smooth; is it 120htz on your TV or something?
