Streaking through the Golden Valley - 60009 on The Cotswold Venturer - 26/08/17

After having no steam up Sapperton Bank for the past 10 months, it's been a real breath of fresh air to have two steam hauled runs up this fearsome climb in the space of less than two weeks. Following on from 46233's exploits 9 days prior was 60009 'Union of South Africa', as she hauled the first of only two 'Cotswold Venturer' runs for 2017. This would see the A4 running from Paddington to Worcester and back, out via Evesham and back via Kemble and Swindon.
Starting off, we capture the LNER Pacific as she gets up to speed from the stop at Moreton-in-Marsh, passing under the Shipton Road overbridge. Next up, we catch a brief glimpse of No.9, as she powers up the final stretch of the climb to Sapperton Tunnel. I had intended on filming from the top of the tunnel itself. However, despite getting there an hour and a half before No.9 was due, it was completely packed out! So, circumstances meant I ended up much further down, where the view is not what it once was. Can't have everything, I suppose.

Such a pity 'Number 9' hasn't got long left. She sounds like she could go on forever. Great clips all the same.
