great video, enjoyed watching you hit 1k subs gratzzz on that. also enjoyed watching your fishing video the other day .may your channel just grow & grow buddy. keep it up , all the best & stay safe.
Thank you Dave it's not the easiest to make but it's at the top of my list for rig I use there very versatile great rigs for cod, ray, smooth hounds etc
The crimping tool is in the discription there is a link I will be honest it's an affiliate link so I will earn a small commission if you was to use the link They don't have a name it's just a crimping tool
i know this is going to sound daft but i invented this rig back in the late 90s... and so did an unspecifiable number of other anglers. i think the Gemini range of products opened up a few design possibilities and with so many of us having to deal with similar problems it was inevitable that we'd come up with similar solutions. the mark that made me put one together was deep and clean with ray the target. strongish flows might have lifted a paternoster off the seabed and flowing traces were not good to cast. attaching the trace down low then running it up and down the rig body to a bait shield seemed like it might work. it did and exceptionally well. i saw the same rig in Sea Angler a few months later so obviously many anglers were thinking along similar lines.
@@C3BFA no probs. i'll be out this Sunday taking pics of marks between Aberaeron and Llanrhystud on the big Spring low. if i'm after clean ground is there any area you suggest i take a closer look at?
I dont think there is any to be honest. I have used even longer at the moment I am using around 3-4 ft long like I used to and my catch rate hasn't changed. I thought the longer trace was improving my catch rate but it don't seem to be. It don't tangle any more or less than the shorter version. Thanks dave
Hi mate what crimping tool are you using i recently bought a similar one and the hole wasn't big enough to get the trident thermal ink through the hole to crimp
Sorry I thought I replied to your comment. I personally haven't found any benefit. I have used these ans shorter ones with no difference in catch rate really. They don't tangle if the bait is presented neatly. If the bait is going to spin then yes it will tangle
Well young fella you did it again total tigga-dee- boo . Thank you for sharing your talents.

@@scotlandforagingandfishing it's fiddly but take your time it will be ok
Brilliant vid mate always wanted to know how to make an up and over rig.
Thank you Dave it's not the easiest to make but it's at the top of my list for rig I use there very versatile great rigs for cod, ray, smooth hounds etc

That's crazy and thank you for the story. I really like this rig for rays and bass it's deadly

@fishingrhod llanrystud is the place basically in the middle of the beach. The rest is rough.
Aberaeron south beach to the right has clean ground too
Awesome quality rig there.is the tackle shop still open in cardigan? Due to local schools closing preseli ect.
Thank you Chris
Never been to tackle shops in cardigan so not sure I use Aberystwyth
Do you ever find it unclips from the hangover part during the cast?
No it never has but it's important to set the spring tension right
Not sure if you’ll get this message. Videos is quite old now just wondered what is the benefit of a long trace

How is the trident tackle, any good. ....
I find it is personally there simply and well designed and they last and easy to use
Hi mate what crimping tool are you using i recently bought a similar one and the hole wasn't big enough to get the trident thermal ink through the hole to crimp
It's just a cheap eBay crimper it. Don't have a name.
I have stopped using it now and gone back to plier crimps
You couldn’t tell me the benefit of having a long trace like that I’ll be worried I’ll get tangled all the time
Sorry I thought I replied to your comment.
