I just got five of these guys, well four females to one male so that worked out well, for £18 at my LFS here in the UK. Fell in love with them instantly. As soon as they were out of the bag they were schooling all over the tank and exploring. They found the outlet to the filter and went berserk hyper. They absolutely love to swim in to the fast flow. I'm definitely going to get more in the future but my tank is fully stocked after adding them. Words of caution, however. I have Danios and they chase these guys like crazy. The first two days I thought they were doomed but they have learned to stay lower down in the water and are now only chased a few times a day if they wander too far up. Mine are very young / small though, so may be better when aged. The Danios apparently own the entire upper third, length and breadth, of my Roma 240. Cherry Barbs seem to like them. They join in the swimming in to the current from the filter.
Got 3 pairs and so far they’re thriving well for 4 days now…considering 50 cardinal tetras and 10 pairs of German blue rams come and died in my tank…love this guys+1 surviving cardinal tetra!
I just picked up 15 of these guys at a great price because they appeared spontaneously in my LFS's plant tank (fairly normal result of leaving rainbows to their own devices). They were schooling and eating within an hour, and began spawning the very next morning. They are one of the most interesting, vibrant, intelligent, and beautiful fish I've ever kept.
I got one of these at a fish auction. Great fish and now I know I've got a male. I know what to look for now on gender to get more. This was nice timing.
One of my female dwarf rainbows seems to have some sort of tumor or growth. I’ve had her for a couple months but I had noticed it getting bigger a few days after I bought her. At first I thought it was a parasite but I’ve treated her and it hasn’t gone away. The bulge isn’t huge but it’s noticeable enough to be worrying. Any advice?
I tried to add 6 of them to my 46gal and my 1 turquiose rainbow got ick. I know the turquoise rainbow needs to be in a bigger tank but he was given to me and I really like him. I would like to try adding the dwarf rainbow again but any suggestion beside quarantine them first. If I add more turquoise rainbow which can grow to 4 or 5 inches I wont be able to add the neon rainbow
I have a 55gallon tank, currently I have 3 bosemani, 2 austrailians, 2 gbr, 2 apistos, 4 gouramis, 5 phantom tetras, 5 harlequins. I want to add 4 neon dwarfs and 4 turquoise do you think this will be too much? I have a allpondsolutions canister filter rated at 1000L/h, I used to have a malawi tank before these and its a different transition. I would love to have the group of different rainbows! Thanks if you reply
Thanks so much for making this video- I've been looking for info on this fish as a possibility for a 20 gallon long that I have and this is the most informative video that I've found :)
I had 7 females and 3 males in my 55g. They were doing great for over a year, then one day I found 8 dead. None of my angelfish, platys, corys, pleco and guarami were impacted. The water test was fine. I had recently added more nerite snails, and someone told me that praecox rainbows are really susceptible to tuberculosis, but I still don't know what happened...any ideas. It was fully planted
I was thinking of getting some neon rainbows. I have a 28 litre tank, is that too small? Also, will they be ok with neon tetras and serpae tetras. Thanks for any advice
Help! My praecox rainbows are getting a disease recurringly. The belly gets inflated, the scales on that place lose colour and they stick out like pangolin scales. The fish hovers near the surface and gradually loses ability to swim against current. Slowly but eventually they die one by one. I have used potassium permanganate, rid-all medications but could never save. One from my current batch is infected. Without treatment, all of them will die soon.
I started doing a school with these guys and they are awesome! I've got 8, 3 males and 5 females (I thought about switching a female for another male but everyone is doing great). One of my females constantly has her fins flared out and rarely lays them down, does anyone know of something is wrong with her? She seems really healthy.
Please help! I went to my local fish store for snails and I left with a single male dwarf neon rainbow fish. It was the last one they had and they didn't tell me it's a schooling fish. All the I do I found says it must live in a group of minimum 5 fish. My tank is too small to get 4 more of it (I have other occupants already) so what do I do? Can I possibly get two more and have them as a trio or do I need to give it away...
I know this is an old comment but most fish, especially those we keep in an aquarium, will do great in blackwater. Most natural bodies of water are to some degree blackwater. Blackwater will also usually bring out more vibrant colors in your fish too.
I purchased 10 of these for $2.29 each... put them in my planted tank. About two weeks later everyday, one by one we’re dying! Their fins seem to “stop working”, silvery patch on their side, cloudy eyes... then dead! My tank water levels are all normal. No ammonia. My shrimps are thriving. German rams and killifish are thriving. Guess I got a bad bunch :(
I have 6 dwarf rainbow fishes, only one is male with red color fins..all others are yellow fins which is female..Do female also show good colors when matured compared to males? Should I have to get more males or 1:5 is ok?
LOL. I wish they were 5 bucks here in Florida where I'm at. Petco sells them for 8 dollars each and Pet Smart is even worse at 15 bucks per. Other rainbows in my area usually in the 7 to 18 dollar range depending on species.
5 BUCKS!! I thought cory's store was supposed to be the more expensive high quality store, I haven't seen dwarf rainbows for less than 10 bucks around here.

Praecox rainbows are a hidden gem in the hobby. They are so animated and fun everyone should do a tank with them

Getting 10 Dwarf Rainbows for our planted community tank, your videos helped us decide which fish to select. Thanks Corey!

Just got these beauties. LFS had 2 females and 1 male. Plan to add two more pairs to the school when they come in.

How many can I keep in a 36 gallon with 10 black neons and 2 guppies?

I have 110 gallon tank with 5-600 tiger barbs. Do these guys get along well with the barbs? How many neons do suggest keeping?
Do they do well in a community tank with tetras?
mine have done well with cardinals and galaxy rasboras and honey gourami's
I have 4 angels 2 bristlenose a gourami and 4 platy how many of these could i do if u think they would work with them
I was thinking of getting some neon rainbows. I have a 28 litre tank, is that too small? Also, will they be ok with neon tetras and serpae tetras. Thanks for any advice

bought 3 getting more soon amazing price at $3.99!
How would these do with german blue rams and angels?
How do you feel about these fish staying at a higher temp suitable for a tank with clown and yo-yo loaches and silver dollars, in a 120 gallon?
Don't expect babies in that tank.
i love rainbows
Neno rainbow fish can leave with gold fish's????
I started doing a school with these guys and they are awesome! I've got 8, 3 males and 5 females (I thought about switching a female for another male but everyone is doing great). One of my females constantly has her fins flared out and rarely lays them down, does anyone know of something is wrong with her? She seems really healthy.
Does she exhibit any signs of dominance? Sounds like a dominant(or possibly ready to breed?) female, all other things equal.
I just got 6 of these two weeks ago!
+Robert Hathaway Awesome. They're great when full grown.
+Aquarium Co-Op I also got a millennium rainbow too
i love these types of video's
+Pit Bull Great, more of them to come :)
Can their eggs be eaten by algae eaters fishes as they quite often graze on surfaces? Thank you
Picked 2 up for my 2 boesmani need more.
Can you put them with shrimp like they wouldn’t eat the shrimp?
Please help! I went to my local fish store for snails and I left with a single male dwarf neon rainbow fish. It was the last one they had and they didn't tell me it's a schooling fish. I'd just return it. A trio may work, but if you have a small tank you could probably find better fish to put in there instead.
I'd call that an excellent excuse to add another fish tank. :D
Great info!
I got 2 of them already Corey
Can we keep them with rcs
Can these be kept with peaceful american cichlids such as geophagus and acaras?
+TheNeers71 yes typically
Wow $5! $13.99 here in PA.
Can I keep them with dwarf frogs?
I bought 10 for 20 euros today. They are still small. About 2 inches.
can dwarf neon rainbow thrive in blackwater tank?

Can i keep them in a 10 gallon with more frequent water changes?
No
The youtuber KeepingFishSimple says that these fish aren't hardy, is that true? I really want to get these.
This is late but some people have problems some don’t really depends how good your supplier is.
Will they eat mysis?
where can I buy 6 fishes like this the rainbow fish are awesome
I have 6 dwarf rainbow fishes, only one is male with red color fins..all others are yellow fins which is female..Do female also show good colors when matured compared to males? Should I have to get more males or 1:5 is ok?
+Joseph Karthic your ratio is good and yeah the females show pretty good blue also.
LOL. I wish they were 5 bucks here in Florida where I'm at. Petco sells them for 8 dollars each and Pet Smart is even worse at 15 bucks per. Other rainbows in my area usually in the 7 to 18 dollar range depending on species.
Well all I can say is, I can buy the fish from a florida farm and retail it for $5 in Seattle, across the country and still make great profit on it.
nice profile speciesCory
Can you keep them with Guppies?
I want to get some
I got them with cherry shrimp... I hope they don´t eat all of them!
Did they?
How many would you have in a 40 breeder?
500
picked some up yesterday 3 for 10$ in canada so that like half price with exchange right? hahaha
picked up 12 yesterday, 4 for AED10.. that's like 3 times cheaper XD
I've got 54 of them in my tank for only 40$ !! Guess they're a lot cheaper than those in Americas
BTW can I just get male's instead of females and males ?
They color up better with females. It can be done technically.
+Aquarium Co-Op OK thanks I'll but both then.
😎
5 BUCKS!! I thought cory's store was supposed to be the more expensive high quality store, I haven't seen dwarf rainbows for less than 10 bucks around here.
Well my quality is high for sure. I can't help that your local store is gouging your local customers ;(
I have a local smallstore which sells really nice juveniles for about a dollar
Bought 3for $10 in Canada. Must be the currency in US...hahaha
I have an orange finned one. What sex is it?
Male
American rainbows are too expensive its sad. PH is around less than $1
How many in a 75 gallon?
Probably a lot
Dwarf rainbow fish is not compatible with angel fish 🐟
What they eat
2$ in Korea
we got dwarf rainbowfish for like 1$ here in ukraine
what would you male to female ratio be for a group of 8? THanks
