I totally agree with you. I love them, their beauty, their energy, just about everything about them. Keep your water fresh and moving and they will reward you.
Great video! I have 8 praecox dwarf rainbows, only two females. I observe, and my females seem to be in charge of things. The males don't seem to bug them that much and the females seem to be in charge of the spawning behavior. I love these fish... i'd love to have 100.
Great video Bob. I have not keep rainbows before so this video helps with what to start with. My bucket list is getting bigger with your rainbow videos. lol.
I had never kept Rainbowfish before, but thanks to some of your awesome tanks I now have Turturquoise, Boesemani, Red Irian, Threadfin, Parkinsoni and ForkTailed RainbowFish. Great video Bob.
Can you do a top 5 for harder to keep rainbow fish? Also, there are so many different rainbows out there. Could you do a video quickly comparing them? And a vid showing there juvenile vs adult look would be awesome. Thanks.
The first time I watched one of your videos... I didn't like you. But here I am today wishing I knew you in person. XD Thanks for sharing the info on the rainbowfish; you've officially got my attention. Now if only I had a bigger tank... Some day. :-P
Amazing video, I started with 3 Australian Rainbowfish back in January they grew nicely, I definitely have a dominant male that has nice fins with the yellow similar to yours, recently I bought 3 Boesemani and 2 Turquoise to add to the school and I love all of them cant wait until they grow up and get more color, they are all kept in a 55 with Platys, Guppies and 1 Betta
Bob maybe you have had some pseudomugil-furcatus? Hands down those are my favorite. They are tiny, yes... but so much personality and those fins and blue eyes. Awesome! Scrap plans for that saltwater and do a nano tank of those.
These are my favorite kind of videos: educational and helpful to other hobbyists. I notice you didn't mention threadfin or celebes rainbows. You don't recommend them for beginners?
thanks for finally mentioning the Madagascar rainbows no ever does they are the rainbows that i keep although I have bedotia madagascarensis which stay a bit smaller than maybe 4 to 4 1/2 inches and don't have a spot under their chin like geayi very similar species though get mixed up a lot in the hobby
Very vibrant colorful rainbow fishes you have, very envy. Mine are not so colorful, probably the weather here doesn't bring our their color potential. Still your logo is still catching my attention instead. Hahaha!
I just picked up some kamaka today at my lFS Only 2 because they were 25 bucks a piece but I’m super stoked about them they are the first rainbows I’ve ever kept and they look great with my school or neon rosy barbs. Great video 👍
First time to your channel love the video. Subscribed and looking at more of your videos. Keep it up. I like how you printed out the names so we can look them up.
It's really funny that one type of rainbows in my area the price difference. The Dwarf Neon Rainbow at Petco sells for $8 dollars each. At Pet Smart they want $16 dollars for the same fish. Both stores are just 7 to 10 miles apart. Guess where I would buy mine. LOL.
I have had the Australian, Boesemani, Praecox, and Madagascar when I had a big house and a 125 gallon tank. I live in a little house now and my biggest tank is 75 gallons, I currently have 8 Goyder River Rainbows but I desperately want some Boesemani again.
Hey Bob...love the videos. Have 3 pea puffers I was feeding and thought of Little Steen. I put a zuccunni* on a plastic covered metal cloths pin and drop into snail tank .. few hours later just pick up and shake into your hand and re-drop. lol Little Steen Happy.. lol Have a great day
Nice video and great looking fish Bob. You are the reason I have rainbow fish in my 75 gallon. (true story) I'm just curious about the below 80 deg water temperature you mentioned a few times in this video. I currently have my rainbows at 82.5 - 83.0 deg F. When I got them I searched the internet and found the majority of rainbow care sites had 82 deg. listed as optimum. This is purely a question and not a critique. Keep publishing the great videos.
Nice job on the video, something I should have done years ago, if I had I don't think it would be as good ! At one time I use to keep and breed 40 + different species of Rainbows ....now retired from breeding bows I keep a small group of the bosesmani (Lake Aytinjo), lacustris, and herbertaxlrodi from the Melanotania Genus plus the bleheri from the Chilatherina Genus and a multisquamata from the Glossolepis Genus. The later two not quite beginner bows.
I think its good to let people know that there are two Madagascar rainbowfish ( gaeyi & madagascarensis ) they are different in max size and you may mix them down the road and have trouble breeding. Tip: always get your females with your males and true gaeyi which are actually rare, have a red dot on their bottom lip!
Thank you for this wonderful video🤗 I am currently doing research on the rainbows I have and you verified that I have a Lake Kamaka rainbow! I do have a variety of rainbows 🌈 and I love them all! I just got the book Rainbowfishes by Gerald R. Allen. So far it has helped me identify some of my rainbows. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos😄
at 4:20, what is that on the male Boesemani? i have noticed the same thing on a few of my rainbows. i treat them for parasites and fungal, seems to go away.
Hi dude, at 4:18, what is the cause of that sore? Is that from a fight or from fish tbc? My boes had that in the past but Im not 100% sure what killed them
Hi, beginner here, looking for stocking my 39g. You have a great collection. Thanks for all the information. At 7:22 there's a purple/pink/white rainbow fish. Which one's that please?
Very nice list, but I do have to wonder, what about dwarf rainbow fish like celebes or threadfins? Would they be considered beginner friendly, or are they more challenging than the ones listed here?
Does anyone know what type of fish that is with the red coming from the nose to halfway down the body and the black stripe all the way to the tail fin with a little yellow on the tail?
@@SteenfottAquatics Thank you! I got a couple of these from a friend when he moved and he had no idea what they were. Quickly became one of my favorite fish in my aquarium, very active and beautiful.
I got into the hobby just over a year ago and have really tried to educate myself and I've become pretty successful with my 55 gallon tank. I have live plants but i got a little excited and bought a bunch of bleeding heart and rainbow tetras and i have two boesemani rainbow and now that i've had a chance to learn and grow my fish out for a year or so im looking at selling off my tetras and getting more rainbows. My question is how many rainbows do you think i can get for my 55 gallon? I have a 306 fluval canister filter and im going to eventually upgrade to a 75 gallon as im falling in love with the hobby. Thanks!
Have you ever set up an aquarium just to breed rainbow fish or have you ever been successful in breeding and raising the fry? Nice job on show casing the rainbow fish. I normally only see these at one store in my area!

Steenfott Aquatics hey I want a community 100 gallon I want some small puffers Wht all can i put with them??
Rainbows are the most under rated fish. Easy to keep and awesome colours! Keep up the rainbow content!
Definitely under rated =)
I totally agree with you. I love them, their beauty, their energy, just about everything about them. Keep your water fresh and moving and they will reward you.
Just got into Rainbows…literally just looked up this video to re-watch! Cheers from PR Steen!
Very beautiful rainbow fish! Agreed that they love plants :) I used to keep Boesemanis.
Love the rainbow fish content! I'd especially enjoy hearing more about some of the rarer rainbows you've got!
Great video! I have 8 praecox dwarf rainbows, only two females. I observe, and my females seem to be in charge of things. The males don't seem to bug them that much and the females seem to be in charge of the spawning behavior. I love these fish... i'd love to have 100.
I found this video again five years later. Still a good watch. Cheers
Great video Bob. I have not keep rainbows before so this video helps with what to start with. My bucket list is getting bigger with your rainbow videos. lol.
+Big Tony's Fish Room glad I could spread the rainbow bug:)

I had never kept Rainbowfish before, but thanks to some of your awesome tanks I now have Turturquoise, Boesemani, Red Irian, Threadfin, Parkinsoni and ForkTailed RainbowFish. Great video Bob.
Ive owed aussie rainbows in the past. Love em!
Can you do a top 5 for harder to keep rainbow fish? Also, there are so many different rainbows out there. Could you do a video quickly comparing them? And a vid showing there juvenile vs adult look would be awesome. Thanks.
That would be an awesome video, but really hard to make without owning them myself =(

Glad i got someone hooked =)
I love your intro's ... Breaking Bad, Back to the Future (very creative)... And your fish ofcourse :)
sweet fish and i have had a lot of fun getting to know this species, sorta cichlid like in their behaviors!
These are my favorite kind of videos: educational and helpful to other hobbyists. I notice you didn't mention threadfin or celebes rainbows. You don't recommend them for beginners?
Are those redbelly dace in with the rainbowfish around the 4:30 mark? The small red schooling fish.
thanks for finally mentioning the Madagascar rainbows no ever does they are the rainbows that i keep although I have bedotia madagascarensis which stay a bit smaller than maybe 4 to 4 1/2 inches and don't have a spot under their chin like geayi very similar species though get mixed up a lot in the hobby
wow nice, i dont think i have ever seen those in person.
Nice list of unique species. Beautiful additions to any tank or as single species tank. Wow, they are active & big fish.
Awesome list, your rainbows look amazing
Rainbows!!! Best fish in the hobby!!!
Thank you for the amazing video, I found this video while i am planning how I'll stock my 55 gallon community tank

3:33 what are those with the black, yellow and red strips on the bottom? look like sharks but not sure, they look amazing
Roseline sharks

Beautiful fish! Getting back into a planted tank and going to keep rainbowfish again.
Awesome!!!
My rainbow fish is awesome …very aggressive! And I ❤️ It! 😁
This is great because I am moving my guppies and endlers out and more rainbows into my community planted tank I currently have neons and bosemani
Awesome =)
Great video man.

What kind of rainbow is under the turquoise at 7:25 with blue then the black line and a white belly
The best beginner rainbow fish aka Bob's excuse to show off his rainbows 👍
I still say get you a spotted blue eye for the nano tank by the window 😉
I know it’s not the subject, but those are some nice looking pristellas.

Love those Lacustris and Parkinsonii, i wantt them in my tank
Nice collection you got going =)
Catching up on some of your older videos. Any reason is a good reason to look at some rainbows.

At 6:30 are those rainbow shiners?
Wow they are soo beautiful
Which rainbow is at minute marker 6:19? It swims right in front of the turquoise
Is that a bala shark @7:45?
Do they play nice with rainbows?
yes, and at this size yes =)
Great rainbow video
+Triple 10 Tanks thanks triple ten
You're making me want rainbows
Going crazy watching this video! What is the slender fish with the red stripe?
Roseline Barb
at 4:20, what is that on the male Boesemani? i have noticed the same thing on a few of my rainbows. i treat them for parasites and fungal, seems to go away.
Randy Jarrett It's likely a bacterial infection, which they get like clockwork if they get injured. I have to treat mine from time to time.
Cool stuff. So what are the smaller thin red fish around the 7 minute mark? Are they rainbow shiners I cant tell but their awesome. Thanks
wow so pretty. do you also keep smaller rainbows like threadfins, spotted blues, paska, celebes and forktail?
I keep and have kept a few different varieties of psuedomugils =)
Hi dude, at 4:18, what is the cause of that sore? Is that from a fight or from fish tbc? My boes had that in the past but Im not 100% sure what killed them
What is that yellow Corydoras at 4:50 ?
That is an Orange Lazer Cory =)
Hi Bob, I think I heard you mention somewhere that you source your own driftwood. Do you have any vids on the topic?
Not yet, but i will be heading up into the mountains again specifically to collect wood. And will be making a video on it =)
What fish is near the bottom of the tank at 1:50? Apisto? If so what species? Thanks
Dope intro
Hi, beginner here, looking for stocking my 39g. You have a great collection. Thanks for all the information. At 7:22 there's a purple/pink/white rainbow fish. Which one's that please?
Good vid I’m thinking of getting some rainbows
Whats that small red fish @7:47 ?
Wow. Beautiful
Very nice list, but I do have to wonder, what about dwarf rainbow fish like celebes or threadfins? Would they be considered beginner friendly, or are they more challenging than the ones listed here?
first here... Bob loves his rainbows
I certainly do =D
I definitely want to do a tank with the Turquoise and Kamaka rainbow. Such gorgeous fish. Do they get along well with Congo tetras?
Yes they do. :)
@@SteenfottAquatics 😍 just what I wanted to hear! What would you recommend for a minimum tank size for a good group of each?
Got an empty 75 gallon. These should work. What about the New Guinea reds Glossolepis incisus?
What are the fish with the black and red lines down the side and the white spots on the tail? They're really striking!
Leigh Amanda roseline shark
Steenfott Aquatics thanks!
Most the rainbow fish you see in the fish store have very little color because of age, about what age do they start showing their best color?
Does anyone know what type of fish that is with the red coming from the nose to halfway down the body and the black stripe all the way to the tail fin with a little yellow on the tail?
Roseline shark, also called denison barb
@@SteenfottAquatics Thank you! I got a couple of these from a friend when he moved and he had no idea what they were. Quickly became one of my favorite fish in my aquarium, very active and beautiful.
Very nice
What can cause cloudy eye in rainbow fish? My tank test show nothing wrong. Perimeters are good. I test regularly with test strips.
Hi. Does anyone know which species the small red fish are in the main tank? and which species are the larger fish?
Stunning rainbows!
What are the gorgeous elongated fish with a stripe in the video? and also the small elongated red fish?
Roseline Sharks and Rainbow Shiners =)
Beautiful fish and informative vid. Which rainbow is bigger, the boesmani or the Turqoise rainbowfish? Thanks
great video
Hi what are those really red smaller fish?, how many fish do you have in that tank?

Hi Steenfott nice video. Can i have the neon rainbowfish with a male betta in a 53 gallon tank? Are they known to be fin nippers? Thanks
Ty
How do you get your hands on Gary lang rainbows?
Join your local aquarium club, he rarely sells them to anyone else.
Have you ever set up an aquarium just to breed rainbow fish or have you ever been successful in breeding and raising the fry? Nice job on show casing the rainbow fish. I normally only see these at one store in my area!
+Ricky Kenerly Cichlids I've never specifically tried to breed them. I have had them spawn and a few of the fry made it.
That is pretty cool!
Thanx! Your tanks are beautiful, by the way. What do you feed him, how big will he get and will he go after small fish, like tetras?
Should get some Trifasciata: Habgood river, Blyth River and green Coen River ones
