    I am not sure everyone realizes (I didn't at first) that air filters like the one on your CS-620PW can be split apart, which makes it easier to clean them with an air compressor (can blow them from inside out). I saw someone split one in half once, & the light bulb came on for my saw filters). I am constantly cleaning my chainsaws with an air compressor after each hard use. Works good for blowing out the loosen crud in the groove of the bar, too.

      Very good information! While I haven't split this filter, I did make a practice of doing that on a Zenoah clone saw I had. Filtration was bad on that saw too. When split, I actually put a foam filter inside of it to help keep out the fines. I had totally forgotten about that. Thanks for the comment!

      Hey, I just wanted you to know that the last time I washed my filter I did indeed split it apart. Thanks for the heads up!

      Last time I split my echo filters for cleaning, they never closed 100% again. There's no O ring or anything between the 2 sections where they mate up. If you have found a way to seal them, great but my attempt failed. Ended up chucking the worthless thing and buying a new one. I agree the echo filter set up is pretty mediocre. It's frustrating to have the highest concentration of dust accumulated in a blind spot that's inaccessible with the filter on but also drops crud right into the carb upon removal. Pull the choke before removing the filter.

      I fully agree with you. Great saw but the filter is lacking. I just had mine ported and it screams. When I put the filter back together it seemed to go together well again. I have placed a large O-ring on the orange plastic where the filter seats and a small one on the bottom of the stud and another on the top of the stud.

      Most echo air filters are washable. I use a pressure pump bottle with warm water and a few drops of baby soap. Let air dry and it works great. They last along time.

    Echo saws are amazing. The Japanese build quality and reliability is in a class of its own compared to the European stuff. A true pro saw at a much cheaper price makes it all a win-win. Sure, the “big two” may be “hotter” saws and will cut through a log .75 seconds faster, but I’m not bringing a stopwatch with me when I’m cutting. And people bragging about Stihl and Husky weights…I’ve seen this saw on a scale and it’s within .9 lb of a ms400 and a 562xp

      Really appreciate you stopping by and commenting! You are 100% correct about many of the things you said. On the 620 specifically it is a very capable and affordable saw in this class. There really is nothing that can compete with it. I find that, if I have a preference over it, it is simply due to feel and not due to operation and it’s capability. My 562 XP is very compact and extremely smooth. The only thing is is I do not trust it as much as I do the 620 P. Again thank you so much for commenting.!

    Proper Saw Maintenance🤘
    Used a O-ring on air filter and cut dust down a lot, purchased gearheads super seal kit and worth every penny. Husky air filter design is by far the best overall the brands. Compressed air is your friend for cleaning. Be careful some D176/D009 Oregon bars have teardrop oil hole, Recommend drilling them to bigger round size they have clogged up on me very easily on me.

      @zeromark202 Great info. So, at my last home I had a proper shop/barn with power. Right now unfortunately I haven't got myself a garage and eventually a shop built yet. I actually have like 75ft of extension cord running from a GFCI on the home to a shed I built to keep a minimum amount of tools on site along with light. Now, one of my issues is my air compressor will not run on the 15 amp GFCI with 75 foot of cheap cord laid out. I miss air always on hand. Thanks for the heads up on the old hole shape. Thank you for your continued support!

    Good vid Oakie. I agree that you shouldn't have to buy an upgrade for your OEM air filter system but at the end of the day it's fines getting into your nice saw. Gearhead has an inexpensive fix to help keep the fines from getting past your OEM filter...

      I put o rings, one in the filter and one on the stud, 1/16 thick with glue and like that better than the kit they sell. I gut the can, weld in 3/4 ID outlet pipe, CS 620 carb with 86578-1 jet, double dogs & roller chain catcher on longer bar studs, rim sprocket. They ain't nothin else on the market worth buying to me.

      Echo 590 required removal of clutch drum so suspect so does 620. My echo 4910 however can be greased through a hole in the center of crankshaft. Only clutch cover removal required. Probably applies to 501p too but can't confirm that for sure.

    • @StoptheLie
      @StoptheLie Рік тому

      @@oakiewoodsman they use it out west more than in the east. Since it has half the cutters, it has less drag and is better when cutting softwood that has more resin. I usually use full chisel and keep the leading edge sharp. I cut mostly hardwoods in the east and the shop I buy chain from doesn't keep in stock. I could buy online like most things these days but I support the locals.

    • @oakiewoodsman
      @oakiewoodsman  Рік тому

      @StoptheLie gotcha. Pretty much the same here. I heard of a shop about 50 minutes from me that actually will make loops and I believe they may have skip. I think they are an Echo Stihl Dealer

    • @johngardner3020
      @johngardner3020 Рік тому

      In hardwood, the skip chain has some uses. It's actually 2/3 the cutters of a regular chain, not half. So a 30 inch bars cuts as much wood as a 20 inch bar approximately. It's slower but in things like dry dead ash where the chips can collect really bad and wedge between the guide bar, it helps. It's like running the saw in a lower gear essentially.

    • @oakiewoodsman
      @oakiewoodsman  Рік тому +1

      I use a flat head screw driver and run it around. I just get a majority of the oily packed in dust out and move on. If I had air, I would blast it out. I have compressors, just don’t have the power to run it in the shed. Are you waxing the whole bar like the sides and everything? If you are trying to keep it clean, maybe Silicone spray would be a good option. Would dry but I would think pitch would have a rough time sticking. Thanks for watching another!

    • @lonnieholbert8898
      @lonnieholbert8898 Рік тому

      Yes, Im doing the whole bar, the idea being less resistance=better performance. Its shocking to me to see how some of these pro loggers treat these $1000+ machines. Keep up the great vids and thanks for the responce.

    • @oakiewoodsman
      @oakiewoodsman  Рік тому

      no, thank you! As far as how the pro loggers treat their stuff, I have found by talking to a few that they expect 1 season of hard use then the saw gets relegated to firewood duty or being a truck saw or something. They use em hard and then buy new when the latest and greatest is out. Think about an auto mechanic. They have 10s of Thousands and sometimes more in Tool Truck tools. I cannot wrap my head around that but convenience, write offs and reliability are key for them. @@lonnieholbert8898

    The Echo CS-680P (OEM A226000070 Air Filter) & Echo CS-7310P (OEM A226002370 Air Filter) have superior air filters, but it's a shame they are not even the same one for those two saws. Even the CS-501P (OEM A226001090) & CS-620P (OEM P021016372) don't use the same crappy style air filter. I wish Echo air filters were all set up the same, but like the CS-680P or CS-7310P. They both seem quite superior!

      This is an area that needs to be improved for sure. Would be cool if they maybe did a revision like Husqvarna did on their 550 and 562xp saws I believe. Their filters were bad initially as well but they eventually got a good setup on them.
