This band is the spark for the future metal bands that came along! Josh, your experience of BS reminds me of the first time I heard Sabbath in 1979 as a teen!
No share at all you should feel compadre. You are probably the only one who has ever reacted to this particular song ever. It is such a good one too! Great reaction.
A shame you’re not aware of them - they are the original creators of heavy metal. This is from 1969. This is a pretty straight hard-rock blues tune - other bands were doing this at this time - Cream (Eric Clapton), Blue Cheer, Love, Ten Years After and, of course Led Zeppelin. But Sabbath took it heavier than the others - listen to the songs “Black Sabbath”, “N.I.B”, “Sweet Leaf”, “War Pigs”, “Iron Man”, “Paranoid” and you’ll listen to the true invention of heavy metal at the hands of: - Ozzy Osbourne - Vocals (you may know Ozzy from his solo work “Crazy Train, etc) - Tony Iommi - guitar - the original Metal guitar god - Geezer Butler - Bass - you ain’t heard nothing yet - Bill Ward - a powerful force of nature They are the real deal - the all time Kings of metal.
You nailed it Bob 👍🏼 - I had forgotten how blues and groovy this Sabbath track was! The blues I first got into as a teen came from listening to lots of British bands - but as i got older I did my research and got into Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, John Lee Hooker.
@Doctor Manhattan Yeah, I thought that later after I wrote it - barely but true - released Feb 13, 1970, although they wrote and were performing some of the songs in 1969 and was recorded on October 16, 1969. Amazing how bands would record an album in a day, a long day no doubt!
They are indeed the grandfathers of metal and originated its beginning happening more than any other band but they themselves are not metal, they are hard rock with a heavy blues influence. Hard rock was brand new when they started out and they took it up a notch. Deep Purple was right behind them and almost as hard and Led Zeppelin a little bit further behind (because so many of their songs were not hard rock). If you want the first metal bands you have to go to Iron Maiden and Judas Priest ( a few albums in). Other hard rock bands that influenced metal but weren't metal themselves : AC/DC. Aerosmith. Cream, iron Butterfly, even the Beatles with their song Helter Skelter are credited with influencing the start of metal music but they themselves were not metal bands. I'm sure I missed a bunch but you get the point. Hard rock is not metal. Granted many people consider them the first metal band but they were the grandfathers of metal, not metal themselves. Listen to Metallica, Slayer, Megadeath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest - you will see the difference in sound. None of those bands would be what they are without Black Sabbath's influence however and I'm certain every member of those bands would concur.
Complete nonsense ..Heavy Metal begins with and achieves INT ultimate expression in Black Sabbath ... there was literally nothing “hard rock “ about Sabbath
Definitely one of Sabbaths bluesier jams, and a showcase of Tony's guitar prowess, but they have a lot of much heavier tunes, the first band I got properly into 🤘
As a BS fan since 1970, you'll be head banging soon. To see them in action like I did in 1971 live, be sure and watch War Pigs in Paris live and also Fairies Wear Boots in Paris too. For the studio side start with Iron Man or Paranoid. They have so many great songs!
'Nobody will change me' off Technical Ecstasy is a great BS song to listen to - it has everything including great vocals, great melody and a couple of the best guitar riffs from Tony...
It's cool that this generation is finding out that there's a lot of good music that's been out there for a long time. Keep digging, you'll find a lot more.
They started as a Blues band (Polka Tulk Blues Band and Earth), but changed their name and direction. While there were other bands doing it heavier and earlier, Black Sabbath laid the foundation on which Metal was built. This is an interesting place to enter the world of Sabbath. It's clear you get it. While most will say to react to the big hits like Paranoid and War Pigs (which you should), the real gems are the deeper cuts like this one. Here are recommendations of deeper cuts from the rest of the first 6 albums. These cuts will give you a great sense of what Sabbath is about. I hope you enjoy them. The bring the Groove, Funk, Jazz, Doom. They are the real deal. Paranoid: Hand of Doom Master of Reality: Into the Void Vol 4: Wheels of Confusion (including The Straightener) Sabbath Bloody Sabbath: A National Acrobat Sabotage: Megalomania
Interesting fact: The name Black Sabbath is the name of a 1963 Boris Karloff horror film which inspired them to write a song called it then named the band the same thing
The song Black Sabbath on this same album will show you what made this band so different than the rest and laid tye foundation for HM. Also check out NIB and The Wizard. You'll get it by then for sure.
They are the architects of metal. Tony has been a riff God for 50 years. Geezer has been the motor along with Bill's intricate, delicate at times. The Gods of Thunder when it comes to power to smash a building. There won't be another band like them.
Grew up on Sabbath. The origin of heavy metal. Tune into WSOU Seton Hall Pirate Radio on line for the the best hard rock/metal station without commercials. Produced out of Seton Hall University in New Jersey. All HM bands say Sabbath is the original HM band.
Try INTO THE VOID if you really want at taste of the Sabbath (pause) they are just so versatile one song doesn’t do the Band justice love your vids keep it up!!
I think at this point in time, Dio had his band Elf, then he joined with Ritchie Blackmore for Rainbow, then in 80’s Dio was with Sabbath for Heaven & Hell
Nice reaction!! 🤘🏼🎧🤘🏼If you want to get knocked on your butt 💥 you GOTTA find the LIVE version of War Pigs that Sabbath did in Paris 1970... and Ozzy will show you how to bang your head!
I’m pretty sure this was my reaction back in the 70s lol. Groovy for sure. Intense. I played this over and over again. So many songs are like this.. but this is heavy …. Didn’t get a lot air play but should have
This is based off of a song called "Blood On Your Wheels" by Ainsley Dunbar Retaliation. I think that's why it's the only song not credited to the four members of Black Sabbath.
The original by Ainsley Dunbar Retaliation is called Warning too, and the Sabbath version it's quite a straightforward cover but with a lot of extra jamming added: ua-cam.com/video/wwlcq8_EuEc/v-deo.html Evil Woman off the original UK release of "Black Sabbath" had another cover "Evil Woman" opening the B-side, the original was by Crow: ua-cam.com/video/U7k5QotUznQ/v-deo.html The US release B side starts with "Wicked World" instead.
Hey brother this album is 51 years old and if you liked this song I suggest you listen to this album in its entirety. Black Sabbath are the godfathers of heavy metal and all of today's heavy metal bands will tell you they are the metal gods!
If you look really close at that album cover. You’ll see something that will blow your mind… I noticed it while tripping on LSD but could see it after..,,, Those are not leaves on the ground.. they are Corpses. All over the ground and hanging in the trees
THIS EPIC MASTERPIECE ALBUM ( BLACK SABBATH ) WHICH IS THEIR DEBUT / 1ST ALBUM TURNED 50 YEARS OLD LAST YEAR JOSH SO! LOL :) TIMELESS TIMELESS TIMELESS! YOU NEED TO DO SOME SABBATH, PURPLE,2 OF THE ORIGINAL HEAVY ROCK BANDS, AND THE OTHER BEING ZEPPELIN . ANYWAY ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE JOSH! :)
C'mon never heard of Black Sabbath!? The Godfathers of metal i.e. they created the genre? Never heard of Ozzy Osbourne who was original singer!? Ok I'll give you the benefit of the doubt lol. Like your RUSH journey you're about to embark on a great ride my friend! Dio takes over the singing in the early 80's and than a plethora of singers until they settled on Tony Martin in the late 80's through the 90's. You'll find a wide range of tunes from this first album until 2013's 13. I'll think you'll be pleasantly surprised when you get to the Dio years and definitely the Tony Martin years! Enjoy the ride my friend! Try the tune After Forever cheers 🤘🎸🎶🍻
I watch every one of these reaction vids to this song that I see And every single person that I've seen, no matter what genre of music they are into Loves this 😂 I mean there's bound to be someone out there that thinks it's the worst thing they've ever heard 😂 Elon probably hates it😂
It's a bit amusing that you're calling Black Sabbath a "Blues band" rather than a "Metal band". Early Metal was deeply rooted in the Blues, with guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Alvin Lee and Jimmy Page pushing the boundaries of the form. Extreme volume, guitar virtuosity and heavier rhythm sections pointed the way that Blues music was taking, leaving foundational artists like BB King and Muddy Waters in the past. Pushing boundaries was especially important to Jeff Beck, who integrated all sorts of unconnected influences into his work with The Yardbirds. But pushing boundaries was, of course, what the 60's was all about. With this album, Black Sabbath pushed those boundaries right off the fucking cliff. "Warning" IS a Blues song, but it's the one which turned the Blues form in the direction that would soon be known as Metal. This is the transitional point: it's Sabbath saying "this is where we've come from, and here's where heavy music will be going from now on." That you expected Metal from the name of the band . . . well, if Sabbath hadn't happened there wouldn't be any Metal to expect. 'Black Sabbath' is without doubt the most influential album ever made. Without it, at least half of today's music would not exist. Every form of Metal, and Alternative, and Industrial, and Goth and Punk . . . just wouldn't have happened. Its influence is also there in Progressive rock, Hip-Hop, Jazz fusion . . . hell, even Country wouldn't sound the same. And there's no question that the Blues followed Sabbath, not the other way around. This is the root from which the last fifty years has grown.
The guitar...the bass and drum are perfect...I love Sabbath ❤️\m/

You’re a drummer? You HAVE to watch Black Sabbath play “War Pigs” in Paris in 1970. Crazy drumming.
Black Sabbath gave birth to what is now known as 'Heavy Metal' Listen to Symptom of the Universe from their Sabotage album, then make your mind up

Geezer Butler on Base. Bill Watd on drums. Tony Iommi on Guitar. And Ozzy Osborne on vocals.

Best Sabbath number ever imho. Whenever I but new headphones I listen to this song. If the can play this, they're good enough.
You have entered into the lair of the Prince of Darkness. Surrender!!! Grooving huh Josh? Loved this. Love Ozzy!!!👍🎸🎶❤🎧

I love Into The Void, also Snowblind the drummer is hot on that one.

Please recommend earlier and heavier. I know they are out there. So I can add to my knowledge base.
This is the third of a trilogy f songs. The first two are "A Bit Of Finger" and "Sleeping Village". The three of them played continueosly is unreal.

NO NO NO, DIO REPLACED OZZY WHEN THEY KICKED HIM OUT. :( SO ORIGINAL SABBATH IS ( 70-78 ) JOSH :)
Dio is a god and so is Ozzy. Gods don't always get along.
Great review!!❤️❤️
"Warning" feels like it starts from end
This whole song shows the blues influence Sabbath had.
Hey Man ,listen Fairy Wear Boots, great song from Sabbath
I'll check it out! Thank you!🙏🏽😁
Tony iommi (eye-OWE-me), the creative genius lead guitarist who invented metal.

Ronnie took over vocals for the 1980 Album Heaven and Hell.

It seems like a heavy love song .
I was warned about you baby but my feelings were a little bit too strong.

Is someone getting murdered in the other room? WTF was that wailing?
you kids need to know the difference between heavy rock , rock and metal , It's only misleading if you guess instead of finding out dude
