- This tutorial explores ways of editing 3D tree models to represent their states in different seasons in VRay for Rhino. This has been done using a 3d model downloaded from the chaos cosmos browser but can also be applied to any 3D tree model you may want to edit or adapt. If you are using an alternative 3d tree model you can skip to 01:57. The key steps in this video can be found below:
00:00 - Introduction
00:11 - Importing a tree from the VRay Cosmos Browser
01:05 - Merging the object into the scene to edit its material
01:57 - Creating autumn tree leaves using the ‘colour correction’
04:40 - Adding a new material to the proxy/ tree object
05:10 - Duplicating Proxy objects to create two distinct models with different materials
07:50 - Creating a winter tree with no leaves using the ‘opacity map’
09:35 - Creating a snow covered tree (at distance)
12:30 - Applying the snow covered trees to a scatter object to create a forest
Very smart way to simulate snow trees in the end of video. Specially if we are no time to find good models and don’t have many options to use in a winter scene. Thank you for this hack.
Tom, you don't need to copy the material, you can use Wrap In option to add Color Correction
Yes, the result is the same for both methods
