FMS Ranger 1220 Best Beginner Plane?

  • In this episode, I continue testing whether or not the FMS Ranger 1220 is indeed one of, if not the best, plane for a beginner to learn how to fly.
Realizing I need a bigger field, I took it to Orchard Beach, the parking lot is huge.
To make matters worse, I'm trying to teach myself, having no prior experience. This is gonna be expensive 😩
I've been listening and implementing advice I've been receiving in the comments, so please feel free to let me know what I'm doing wrong. And right 😁
    Stay well,
    Bris

I realized the front wheel was turned (bent) which is why the plane kept wanting to go left on takeoff and (the one good) landing 😂

You need to give up the elevator when you turn with the ailerons. When you turn right you move the right stick right and also pull back on the right stick a little bit. Always add some up elevator when making a turn. Uo elevator means pulling back on the right stick If you just turn left without any up elevator you lose altitude and can even stall and spiral to the ground.

You are a hero to me!
When I started about 6 years ago, I also bought an airplane that was too small, then a real trainer (propeller behind the wing at the top).
Learning to fly alone is very difficult!!!
Back then I had no idea or experience and today I completely build out my aircraft
Cardboard, Depron, balsa wood or a mix myself.
Don't give up, train and have fun!
    Happy landings, from Germany👍

OUCH! Sorry to see what happen there Bris one thing to always keep in mind whenever you are flying or landing is always best try to keep your plane in front of you and not let it go behind you for one prevent a crash and two in case god forbid if someone is behind you watching you fly who doesn't end up getting hit and hurt. But also I want to say Bris you did great job at the first flight and landing always try to flair back to help soften your landings you have to use a combo of a littlebit of throttle along with using some of your elevator to help the plane from stalling and slamming down. Also one more thing a timer would be a very great tool to use while your in the air to help keep track of your flight time along with a battery checker to make sure your not running your lipo below 3.2. Hopefully this info gives you a load of help Bris? BTW I'm very happy to hear that your not rushing to get that Eflite Viper EDF flying yet take your time with this trainer plane if you want to see how that EDF fly's like? Just get your hands on that Real Flight Evolution sim it's on there the best part is when you crash it you can just hit the reset button you won't be able to do that with your actual one🤣🤣🤣🤣

I've been building and flying drones going on ten years now. My friend says you should get a plane. It will be fun he says. Its easy to fly he says. When my flight time is in single digits (minuets) TOTAL and my repair time also is in single digits (hours) the ratio of repair time is far exceeding my in-flight enjoyment time. Now it is a display. I am learning to fly alone. I flew a cheap plane on Amazon and then I got a Strix nano goblin. I can’t get the throw correct and kept smashing the plane. so I put the landing gear from the cheap plane on my goblin. I am going to add a camera so I can see in the sky. It will be easier to control it alone if I can see Fpv. I just need to taxi it and get it in the air slightly so I know it can fly then I’m adding a camera

Another example a flyer was flying a R/C helicopter and hit himself in the head a few years ago and was killed in Brooklyn or Queens. I don't want to discourage you but have a spotter with you until you become a more of a proficient of a flyer. R/C clubs always harp on safety in the pits and when flying since everybody is sue crazy in today's world. I fly at the old Kings Park hospital in Kings Park New York which has 10 acres of property and all you need is AMA insurance and a park permit for forty dollars. Later and good luck

I don't want to tell you what to do but if you are worried about your car park it somewhere its safe. Another thing I've been flying over thirty years and you are looking for trouble not having a spotter while you are learning to fly. I know a flyer who was sued for 300 thousand dollars after hitting a child when his plane got behind him and hit a ride at a fair. That sign you hit could of been a person that walked up while you were flying which I've seen happen. The person was hit in the stomach and ended up in the hospital and nursing home for his recovery. If he had been hit in the head the plane would of killed him so just be careful when flying. Do the right thing and join a club or AMA for insurance just to be on the safe side. If you want to know any more about flying R/C planes let me know. Later

I was flying once out at Montauk New York and a bunch of kids came up to me and was asking a lot of questions, so I landed my plane and walked away. Later

I dropped onto your channel by chance but I certainly found your two videos detailing your venture into model aircraft both entertaining and reminiscent of my own early days of fixed wing flying and like you, self taught. 👍. Watching the flights and heating your commentary had my stomach tightening as though I was flying your plane. 😅
But why o why after moving to that big carpark do you then confine yourself to an area right next to obstructions i.e. trees ? Don't you remember what a tree did to your p51 ? 😂. Trees and planes don't mix.
From my own experience I believe you need to be in the middle, well away from anything. Just don't fly downwind behind you or into the sun and don't take your eyes off the plane
I'm just curious as to why you aren't getting more stick time on the 450mm p51 as that's almost indestructible and far cheaper to fly in the early days as you master basic figure or 8 circuits etc plus the odd loop or two ?
Take care, have fun but don't run before you can walk unless you have lots of money. 😂
