- Flying RC Airplanes is becoming easier and easier thanks to technology. And beginner RC Planes are a perfect way to fly with confidence. These are my TOP 3 Beginner options from FMS! The Ranger 850mm, Ranger 1220mm and 1300mm PA-18 are all amazing options that come with everything needed minus the AA batteries for the remote. I have been flying all 3 of these for over 2 years now and truly believe in each one of them.
Interested in these planes from @fmsmodelRC ?

If you're buying the 850 ranger, the battery compartment is very small , I cut some of it out to fit a 900mah battery. Still barely fits. Only disappointment. The pa-18 is awesome, no complaints. Dx9
I use a 1300mah and just use a T-pin. Battery compartment was my only complaint on that plane as well
My favorite RC UA-camr! Those are all great beginner planes that look scale on the ground and in the air.
I have this 850 and for some reason I’ve crashed it twice and made repairs. I felt like junking it but I keep fixing it because I can’t believe I am having so much difficulty keeping it in the air. My gps stopped working. I removed it from the top of the wing and 3 of the 4 wires were disconnected from the solder joints. As of now the plane is waiting for another attempt at flying it. I’ve watched other UA-cam videos on this plane and yours is the most clear explanation concerning the transmitter controls. Great job! I am now a subscriber.
It was your videos and your recommendation of the Fms 1220 ranger that got me into rc flying
That's PA-18 has my heart😍 Such a great STOL plane!! That Ranger is now donated to the RC tree gods😂😂
I bought the 1700mm for my second plane absolutely babying the crap out of it I'm so scared.
I've been flying RC since 1979 and you my friend are a very good flyer and teacher, I loved the way you explained everything, Thank you for the video I can show it to my grandkids that want to learn how to fly and make my teaching for them a lot easier hehe !
1979!!! Would love to see some of those planes ✈️
I bought one for my friend and on his first flight. He put it into a 100 ft tree. After two weeks I finally got it out of the tree. One soaked receiver and bricked battery. The Ranger was up in the air like a champ.
I got the pusher ranger 400 for my son and it's awesome. Can't break the prop when he noses it in and it's super durable. Don't hate on them. When he gets better than he can get something that "looks like an airplane ".
I started last year in October with the apprentice and got the wife involved in flying too .
We now have a small hanger for our toys equalling 30 plus planes. I would love to add a ranger 1220 to my collection but I am a little farther away than others.
Great content Jay keep Cheyenne flying it's a great couple hobby.
Vancouver Island BC Canada
Yo jay i have challenge, try to build a giant plane that can land on water and store it in 1 liter plastic box and try to add an pump so you could spray water mid air (pls pin?)
I just got the Ranger 1220. Such a beautiful plane and I am a little apprehensive about flying it. As you can guess I am relatively new at this hobby.
I started on a $80 UMX Radian. Folding prop, no bad habits.
i love all these planes im right now buying the ranger 1220 im super exited!!
I am definitely thinking of getting the fms ranger I’m guessing it’s very durable and it’s a good price but all these planes look great great vid keep it up
Just get the bigger one I opted for the 850 and wiped it out first flight broke wing in half. I was able to get replacement parts and have it repaired
I am thinking of adding a water system to the air tractor if I get it!
I think that would be awesome!

Ranger plane has it hands down I've been definitely working on getting one soon as possible
Love your videos I’m about to get the apprentice from horizon hobby😀
Get a hook on a drone to get the one in the tree.
Thanks so much for this video and the info, Jay.
Very informational and entertaining!!
HobbyZone J-3 Piper Cub BnF is what i've got!!
5 yrs old flown at least 40 times never been crashed
Very helpful video! Thanks Jay!
Thanks Jay!!!
Love the old planes, no gyro, just plug find CG & go.
Jay the ranger 1200mm is my fav bird to fly. I will tell you ive done some stupid things with this bird and crashed it twice for being dumb but wow so strong and easy to fix it just keeps flying better and better. Great Job my friend.👍👍👍👍👍
Bro, you are the man! I watch your videos all the time. Getting into the hobby, just ordered Ranger 1220
My first watching one of his videos … I liked his style and philosophy such as “a big part of the hobby is learning to takeoff & land” … only thing is: I didn’t catch what he doesn’t like about the Ranger 1220. Can you tell me?
nice!
Got a pa 18 on the way. So many spots to fly where i work and skip the waiting to get home and fly on my PC
PA-18 is a great PNP plane and it's a second only plane.
Just got an a380, amazing rc plane
Menard's has an inexpensive 12 ft electricians wire fishing rod that breaks down into 4 pieces. The hooked end can snag a branch and dislodge your plane. Once you throw one in the trunk of the car you will probably never hit a tree again.
That's how it always is. I bought a compressed air-powered bean bag line launcher Bazooka to retrieve planes and drones from the tree. Used it once and haven't used it since in 3 years. lol
Would love to see a video on the Ranger 1220mm with floats, especially if it’s a tutorial for beginners to water flying.
I just took my Ranger to the lake and went for it. As long the water is relative calm, taking off and landing are the same as on solid ground. I even was doing it on choppy water w full gyro and it was fine.
The Cub has great STOL.
I'm a beginner RC pilot. Not sure what Expo is exactly.... you're pretty good about assuming a beginner or first time viewer is watching your videos but it would help if you could explain the slightly more technical terms. Thanks.. PS I like the dynamic between you and cheyenne. Women like strong confident men!
I was thinking that when I was editing. Expo softens the first percentage of the stick movement. Adds a curve to a linear line. So if I say 30%… for the first 30% of the stick moving it won’t be as sensitive. Some people run higher numbers. (Essentially if your fingers are shaking or you are over-correcting .. expo will often all those stick inputs) I will show in a video soon!
“Stick Jam”. The Saylors Call it a “Snap!”
If you're moving on to watching other channels than the Saylors, you're already making progress in the hobby.
I already have the rager and I’m planning on buying the cub
Ur videos made me get the fms 1220 ranger pnp. First time flying plane and Wanted to ask u what batteries can I go with and better play time.
Aaahh he keeps saying flaps hehe 😂
I live close .. what town I’ll come with a cherry picker this week 😂
ive been planning on buying the fms 1300mm pa18 andTomorrow I'm buying it thanks for doing a review
Great video thanks. The arrows trekker is another great plane. Love you channel. Over and out from western oregon.
Westhampton? Calverton?
Love your videos and looking to start flying planes. If I get the Ranger 1220mm RTF can I upgrade to a better remote later?
Unfortunately, FMS does not ship to Greece and if you find in Greece they are 2X the price ...
NICE
I have flown a rc plane before but barely I have sport cub s 2 and I don't know how to fly it but I would love to come out there and fly with you but I live in canada
So good
This is very good information.
Need gps on that tree. I've got the remote 😉
You can add flaps to it
Im a starter and just have grass is the pa 18 1300mm ok or will the ranger take off on the grass
Jay, Love the videos. Need to get back into the hobby. I'm in oakdale and have access to a bucket truck. Been trying to figure out where you fly
Jay I pickup the Ranger 1220mm for new guys at the club its a great flyer I take it out and played with it alot cant go wrong 😊😊😊
What was Jay’s one critique of the 1220? (I missed it in the video)
@@francismoran1230 Hi he wish it had flaps other then that great flyer I sold mine to new flyer did great on first flight he took off with it ask me to land 3rd flight he was taking off and landing no issues ,he has over 30 flights now still fly's great it would be nice to have flaps slow in on landing bur dose not need it hope that helps 😊😊😊
Jay, I'm trying to get into flying and looking at getting the Ranger 1220mm but i can find the RTF online anywhere.. do you have any tips on where else to look? Appreciate the vids, and love you passion for everything RC!
If I was shopping for a beginner RC airplane, I like the 1220 Ranger; couple summers ago saw kids flying float versions. What’s the competition to FMS?
If your buying an fms 1220m it's all fun and games until you fly in strong winds. Ripped my right wing straight off and crashed but a very good airplane😂
That field need some Round Up not a weed wacker
I would love to know where you buy your extra battery's!, I'm thinking about getting the 850mm because I'm new to flying but I want a longer flight time so it would be helpful if I knew where you get your battery's from.
What is your opinion on the 1800mm version of the Ranger for a first plane? I realize it doesn't come in a RTF option but lets say some impatient fool (cough) already purchased a radio and still doesn't own a plane would the 1800 Ranger be a good one to learn on? Asking for a "friend".
I bought the FMS pa18 for a first plane was a mistake for me I crashed it so many times trying to fly it to slow and would drop a wing lol bought some smaller ones and worked up to a umx turbo timber evo after I got comfortable with that I tried the PA18 again and now I love it defiantly like the umx stuff better I’ve been teaching myself on my own and now can hover kinda with the evo super fun hobby
Yeah! That PA-18 can bite hard. Thats why it’s #3. Super rewarding once you get it down. Can fly amazing 🔥 UMX always has my ❤️
Yeah super rewarding once I got it! I bought the RtF originally and now have it switched over to my NX6 switched out the prop on it to a apc 12x6. Your videos actually what made me give the hobby a go and I’m glad I did
Is the first one fragile ?
What one is better for grassy field takeoffs
Ranger 1220mm is okay but deff the PA-18
and jay r u able to make new fms codes that are like 30-35 % off?
I got the 1200mm ranger off of your recommendation and I love it 👍👍I had the 1300mm pa-18 and it sent me to the hospital because it chopped up my arms bad. Love your videos
What did you do, crash into yourself? That's crazy.
@@FarmerFpv I was working on it and it was on my bed and it went full throttle
Thank goodness not hurt face. Which plane is better??
I like the 1220mm ranger more
@@JohnBrahney is there reason?
Hey I bought a Cessna 182 3 channel
What controller and transmitter are you using I accidentally bought the pnp model
Those are great but…
How did you not mention the Apprentice?
Hi bro I’m from Cyprus and I just bought the super cub 1300mm and I’m wondering if this plane can fly with 1300mah 3s battery and what time I will expect with this battery.Thank you ❤
What I don't understand is that planes are designed specifically to be able to fly so how do they fly upside down. 🙃 htf😮
I have a question for you because you talk so much about expo. I have a flysky i6 radio that you can program expo on and the radio is cheap like 50 bucks so could you use the same receiver and just swap radios?
i would love to get the 1220 mm but i just dont have the money and no way to make money cus i am legally to young but the first one i am gonna buy will be this one thanks for the help
👍👍👍
can this planes carry a go-pro? greetings from Dončič homeland ;)
Were is this???
If a person gets into the hobby a spectrum NX6 or NX8 transmitter is a great investment cause my moto is if you don't build it yourself it's bind and fly or die!!!!!!!!
Ralphie
@Jay Kujan, I was looking at the Ranger 850mm, (the cheapest one) on its website. There are 2 versions, whats the difference between this one with the RTF and the one with the PNP (with Reflex V2). Since the PNP version is much cheaper.
PNP means plug and play. It means you have a remote battery and charger already. So you plug in your receiver.. add your battery. And fly with your remote. RTF means ready to fly, comes with everything needed to fly in the box
@@Jays_rcgarage thank you for the information
How do I order more batteries for the PA-18?? What are the connectors and such that I need? Just look for RC airplane/heli battery or...???
Where are you located? I would like to learn to fly r.c planes. I'm in Florida
Whats the code for 10percent off
do you fly when you're not filming
Hey jay just got the simulator any tips?
where is that tree???? im in nj
Please do the wlctoys a280 p 51
What do u do as a job to afford these??? I'm in australia trying to buy the 2nd one and it's 400 dollars!!!
Jay I have all three of those planes as well I’ll agree with you for the pa-18 and the 850mm but the 1220 Ranger I am yet to get that plane in the air. I tried everything from the 1300 to a 2500 and I can’t get that plane to fly.
Floats or wheels? Elevator working ? You have an issue .. email me with some videos of elevator movement. I am happy to help. Jaysrcgarage@gmail.com
What website d0 you use to buy these plane and the Boeing 737
can i get a plane i have a low budget but really want to get into flying bc of your videos
i have a question does the ranger 1220 come with xt60 connectors for the battary or not
Yes
Are you Flying at Grumman ?
I bought the Arrows Bigfoot RTF & Arrows Prodigy RTF last year, as my first rc planes. Im ashamed to say, they both are still new in the box. I bought a Spektrum DX8 Gen 2 transmitter, arround the same time. I had planned on buying a few Bind & Fly E-flte planes. I want to get a new 1.7M E-Flite Super Timber. I have a Blade 230S smart Heli, that I haven't flown either. I have 6 DJI drones including the new Avata 2 & DJI FPV Drone, I fly my DJI drones almost daily. But I do want to try flying my rc planes, soon. I wish they were FPV. I lived my FPV Drones they are really fun to fly.
You can make almost any plane FPV with headtracking 🔥
I got one for Christmas and crashed it into a tree the same day
Nice vid but get a timber
Have them all! But they aren’t Ready to Fly, these are my top RTF picks 🔥
i fly and im 10
Not the aeroscout? 😢
:0 4 minutes ago you typed... I HAVE COME pretty early...
@@LizaDaLizard yea, but still. Looks over performance. Aeroscouts better

$!69.00 PNP
Yeah I no that tree thing I mean what a stupid place to put a tree 😅
get rid of the radio's
Thanks we are in an embarrassment of riches for beginner rc airplanes...
❤😂😂🎉🎉🎉😢😮😅😅😅
First,oh look i found a pin can i have it? Pls pin
Don't care for the 'jersey' style attitude.
I'll take rc saylors.
Or if you already have a radio available and don't need the floats, the base Ranger 1220 PNP w/o the floats gets down to a little over $150 with your discount (It will work, right?). That's extremely reasonable to get started in this hobby, and it's more than enough of an airplane to get someone through the beginner levels and into intermediate flying.
So far I like what I'm seeing from your channel... but whatever you do, Please, please, PLEASE don't become a self-absorbed prick like the Saylors.
