- Netflix hosted a special evening celebrating The Three Amigos - Guillermo del Toro, Alejandro Iñárritu & Alfonso Cuarón at The Academy Museum. The three iconic filmmakers came together for a conversation reflecting on decades of friendship, partnership, exploring identity through cinema, and their latest films (BARDO and GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S PINOCCHIO). Ted Sarandos (Netflix Co-CEO, Chief Content Officer and Chairman of the Academy Museum’s Board of Trustees) introduced the filmmakers, and Cuarón moderated the discussion with del Toro & Iñárritu.

Entiendo que están con una audiencia y todo y lo tenían que hacer en inglés, pero igual hubiera estado chido que lo hicieran a puertas cerradas, en español, y lo subieran con subs en inglés.

Si pero fue organizado por Netflix US y la plática fue en Los Angeles, creo que para hacer sentido de que fuera en español los tenian que traer a Mexico y por horarios chance no saba
x2 pero fue un evento en un espacio en EUA y la mayoría de los asistentes eran gringos entonces la tuvieron quehacer en inglés, aunque se nota que no se desenvuelven tan bien en ese idioma
@@thatBIGchicken Hay más de 10 millones y medio de hispanohablantes en California, que representan más o menos el 30 % de la población de ese Estado. Eso, y considerando que los idiomas nativos de los tres es el español, yo considero que era justificable hacerlo en español.
Justo pensé eso. Aunque los tres hablan inglés de forma muy fluida, en su idioma estos tipos elevan la conversación sobre cine a un nivel que quizá solo Scorsese y Tarantino llegan, sobre todo del Toro.
No porque es en USA, faltaron fue los subtítulos en español

i love these three so much, how lucky are we as cinema goers to have these three who are so creative and hardworking and courageous to try to do so much. I love their dynamic and friendship and I would love to see them have more conversations like this.

Thank you so so much Netflix for supporting visionary filmmakers, becoming a home for them, including this trio, Tim Burton, and so many others! You have chosen the right path, there's no words to express how right it is, because the works of these are not just one-minute hits, they will go down in history and will be watched far into the future, guaranteeing that Netflix flag will sail far into the future as well. I bet even Chris Nolan is having a change of heart towards you, looking at your support for his fellow visionaries and friends.
You do realise that this is a tiny insignificant part for Netflix right? They didn’t do marketing for any of these films, but they sure promote their big action nonsense, reality TV shows and soft porn films (these are the main projects of Netflix and you completely ignore their damage to the film industry). The reason this conversation happened is that they wanna increase their chances at the Oscars (voting begins now) and two of the directors on that stage made movies for Netflix that could get multiple nominations this year.
This is so much fun! I love how they’re fond of each other’s company.
Thank you for this fantastic conversation and for letting all of us see it in its entirety. These three geniuses have inspired me greatly and it was such a pleasure to hear them talk about their artistry, their history, and their thoughts on cinema and film language.

Es divertido como a pesar de dominar el ingles, siguen traduciendo en su mente desde el español.
Eso nos pasa a muchos.
El unico que domina el inglés es del Toro, los otros dos hablan inglés bien, punto. El ingles de del Toro es realmente superior tanto en sintácticamente como en el vocabulario que maneja. El no traduce.

Es una maravilla las calidad humana, la capacidad de expresar su arte en forma enigmática y surrealista y al mismo tiempo tan contemporánea es impresionante. Además es una delicia verlos por lo que son más que amigos, se refleja es la forma tan relajada en que se hablan y se reconocen como iguales y no por lo que ha logrado en términos de éxito sino en términos de creadores…. Una de las entrevistas más inteligentes y enriquecedoras, espero que en Mexico también les den los honores que se merecen.
Y con referencia al nombre de los tres amigos personalmente lo tomo como ofensa porque es la fregadera más americana que podrían llamarlos, deberían de renombrarse

Bardo es una película incomprendida por muchos críticos, pero se tiene que ver dos veces para comenzar a descubrir que es una magnifica película!!!!
Ya se pinche raza adulcolorada ni siquiera muchos la terminaron de ver....putos rufianes bro...ni siquiera la crítica fue mínimamente acertada en los supuestos problemas de la misma y la clasificaron como pretenciosa y narcisista ...incluso cuando la fui a ver al cine(2 veces) me acuerdo que yo era casi el único que le agarro la comedia negra tan marcada y buenísima de la misma.

What a fantastic conversation of some of the most talented filmmaker’s of this generation and how fortunate are we that they are from Mexico bringing a most needed different perspective to Hollywood.
Always love seeing these masters together, or at least in the same conversation. I grew up with the two “Hellboy” films, Gravity changed my perception of spectacle and Birdman blew my mind in high school. Easily some of my favorite filmmakers working now.

I can also relate to Alejandro with that experience of a dream. That is how exactly I can explain it too. What would it really be?
I can say that for me has been about the power of facing reality (or what we think is reality) through our huge imaginary; that can be so many times paralysed on this contemporary society. Close to what Guillermo said, in my words: A time to finally face ourselves as a collective mind.
These three men are so beautiful! Truly a few of the most talented people making films. They are also so goddamn funny! I laughed so much and so hard listening to this interview. Their films are the best because they are some of the most personal
