    He had no idea about having to make a speech. Barely skips a beat and delivers an insightful personal description of the art of screenwriting. What a legend.

    1:16:32 For every original and truly creative, aspiring or established screenwriter/director who wants to really understand what the term Cinema actually is. I haven’t ever found is more beautifully and more simply articulated than this. Kudos to the lady who asked the question. We’re blessed to witness this.

      To this explanation Cuarón gives, I would add what David Lynch said (also at BAFTA) about people not getting it: "The film is the thing. You work so hard, after the ideas come, to get this thing built. For all the elements to feel correct, the whole to feel correct, in this beautiful language called Cinema. And the second it's finished, people want you to change it back into words. And it's very, very saddening. It's torture. It's the _film:_ the language of Cinema."

      Reina de Grillos soy editora de videos y escritora de guiones. También naci con espina bifida, que es un defecto neurólogico. Estoy en silla de ruedas. Creo que he vivido lo suficiente y soy lo suficientemente educada para tener mi opinión. Nadie latino que he conocido en la vida real le gustó esta película porque es pésima. Le falta trama. No tiene historia y nada pasa. Por eso aunque muchos me digan, no voy a escribir un guion de mi vida. Para mi, mi enfermedad no es lo suficientemente interesante.

    • @reinadegrillos
      @reinadegrillos 4 роки тому +9

      @@Nazaba09 Lo de la espina bífida es para dar pena? No venía al caso. En cuanto a que la peli de Cuarón carece de historia, te equivocas, es la historia de una vida de servidumbre y de silencio, de amor y de pérdida, de fortaleza interior y de culpa, e incluye tangencialmente la historia de la familia a la que ella dedica su vida. No habrás leído a Flaubert en Un corazón simple. Tampoco, según tú, tendría una historia. Tal vez consideras que Cuarón no cuenta una historia porque su protagonista es una criada. Si te dedicas a esto y no admiras esta obra íntima y emocionante es que lo haces desde una perspectiva telenovelera y/o de pobreza anímica.

      I think it just wasn't creatively satisfying for him.
      I agree, if he had done the rest of the films we'd be hailing the HP series as one of the greatest tent-pole series' of our time, but we'd be deprived of original masterworks like Children of Men, Gravity, and Roma.
      POA is one of the greatest films of the 21st century, and I'm happy we got a slice of true excellence.

    Towards the end of the clip, Alfonso beautifully captures the essence of cinema as the dance between its elements, where the synergy creates something greater than the sum of its parts. He distinguishes this immersive experience from what he perceives as "books for lazy people" - series and movies that lack the depth to engage one's senses fully. His perspective highlights the richness of cinema, where every element contributes to a captivating and meaningful whole, inviting the audience to immerse themselves in the art form.
