Excuse me. His voice as well. lol
Very rare for Jimmy to stay silent and let the artist speak the art.

I noticed that too, seems like something huge is being unraveled before his very eyes 🥲 so glad that Guillermo is getting all the recognition he deserves

I can't believe Disney themselves couldn't capture the essence of Pinocchio. Guillermo had to step in and show them. Grande Guillermo, no te mueras nunca.
Una vergüenza lo que hizo Disney con su versión de Pinocchio
Es porque Disney no es persona. Es una compañia.. a corporation that doesn’t care about human connection and only uses it for their own personal gains.
I liked it
@@MisssKayy eww, 🤢, eww
Disney is a lifeless mega-corporation out to make a profit, that is why they have been failing at making movies in the last few years.
When Del Toro talked about how animation isn't just for kids and that it's not a genre but in fact it's really art, I had a huge smile on my face. This man understands creativity, hard work, effort, and passion. Bless his kind soul.
DID YA HEAR THAT OSCARS 2022?!
America really has a misconception of animation which is why it never really improved outside of kid shows.
@Alberto Virrey GDT should be ceo
Sue these Disney princesses for saying animation is for kids
The makers of studio ghibli will have to agree with you
It's hard not to love a director like Guillermo, he's very talented but he's also funny, kind, and very knowledgeable. He's our national treasure 🇲🇽♥
Puro talento MEXICANO VIVA MEXICO 🇲🇽
Exactly
He has such a detailed eye for detail. I have always loved his work, and I would love for him to have a huge budget to make a film adaptation of an H. P. Lovecraft story. Dr. del Toro is the only one I would trust to bring Lovecraft to the screen.
Thought Memo Ochoa was your treasure....I'm kidding 😁😂
@@tommc4916 Yesss, that would be awesome!
It's very rare in modern times when an artist comes on a late talk show to talk about their art without being interrupted or joked about; this interview is one of those rare instances and man, Guillermo del Toro has absolutely floored everyone away, and Jimmy was excellent by giving Guillermo space to talk when he needed to along with asking the right questions. This is definitely up there with interviews like Jim Henson on the Arsenio Hall show
That's the beauty of Jimmy as a host, he can be really effortless in these interactions. Jimmy has healthy empathy in spades. He's warm, kind and cheerleads his guests. It can only bring out the absolute best in them.
@@angelicaterry3367 facts, and I'm glad to be witnessing it
Yes! I don’t like when they interrupt the guest or try to make jokes when they are speaking, basically I’m watching because of the guest.
I am the parent of an 8 year-old boy, and during the pandemic we saw many Disney films together, both the new ones as well as the classics. GDT's Pinocchio really struck a chord on my boy, and using an empty shoebox, some playdough and his ipad started to spend hours doing stop clay animation about his dinosaur stories. It was rivetting to see him get excited after working for hours on a short story, and see the final product. The more effort the more satisfaction you get. I showed him this interview today, and he teared up and said "I want to be like Guillermo del Toro one day". Thank you GDT for the inspiration, your art and your vision! Greetings from Mexico!!!
I would invest heavily on your child’s talent he could bring lots of 💰 in the future .

Thank you for sharing that. That’s so neat! I hope he chases his dreams!

This is by far Jimmy Fallon's best interview. He takes his guest seriously with no goofs and lets him talk and express his love of the craft
You can tell when he actually has respect and admiration for a guest and when the guest is just there to make a tv show. That's the difference.
AND he quoted Hayo Miyazaki…
Omg I could listen to him talk all day. Seriously. I love the way he talks about his art and art in general. And everything that inspired him… and he also seems like a pretty cool guy anytime I see him in a video just chatting.

Came here to say that I saw this film in theaters and it is a true masterpiece. Was crying within the first 10 minutes. Everything up until the final line of the movie will stay with me for the rest of my life.
I was just in the kitchen to prepare something to eat, and I saw my dad starting to watch this movie. It immediately grabbed my attention. And while I was preparing my meal, I caught myself already crying within the first 10 minutes you said. From then on I sit down, and started to really watch the movie with my dad. I love that Guillermo del Toro talked about Hayao Miyazaki
When he first talked about animating the mistakes my first thought was Miyazaki, so I'm glad he confirmed my thought just a few moments later ^^
big respect to the man, del Toro for mentioning Miyazaki
Both Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and Hayao Miyazaki’s Porco Rosso are both anti-fascist movies and both main title characters are at the opposite ends of the age-experience spectrums.
“Better a pig than a fascist!”
He's a such a sweet, kind soul. Notice how he makes sure his little Pinocchio puppet waves goodbye to the audience at the end of the segment. Adorable!
Mexico's pride!!! ❤ He's such a wonderful human! Ill never forget as a kid watching one of his first films Chronos and to me it seemed like such an extraordinary film, little did we know he'd end up becoming what he has.

Finally I don’t feel like an outcast. I love animation movies and everytime I share this with friends they say “Those are kids movies” and I always found myself trying to explain that they are art like any other movie. I enjoy animated movies more than any other style. To hear Guillermo Del Toro say” People need to understand that Animated movies are not just for kids, but are art…” make me feel validated and happy.
Yeah you tell them. It’s a medium, NOT A GENRE! 😊
I love how excited Guillermo del Toro gets about audiences seeing his creations, like a true artist would when sharing their art with the world. It doesn't come off as boastful or an empty promotion of his film, but a genuinely wholesome passion of wanting others to see his works and the efforts of all involved in his projects.
I love this director so much.
I think you can see that in Jimmy too! They’re both so genuinely excited by the artistry
Well that's an Oscar winner no doubt about it. Fantastic.
You can tell everyone was listening intently to GDT like a child listening to a storyteller. Such a talented and amazing person. That laugh of him at the end when Geppetto hit is head was lovely then started to make the puppets wave
This Director is just a Genius. Right up there with Spielburg, Kubrick, and Scorsese. A true movie-making Giant.

his version of Pinocchio is literally an instant timeless classic - it is absolutely beautiful, and unlike any animation you've seen before... such a beautiful new take and retelling of a story that's been told many times. to me, this is the ultimate telling of the story - engaging to any age. i'll stop now because I could talk about it forever ❤
This version of Pinocchio is a really piece of art, because it shows us beyond of a father and son relacionship, is how Geppeto learn to be a father and Pinocchio learn to be a real boy.
Italian here. I think this movie is going to be the highest attempt to capture the abysmal depth of Collodi's masterpiece on sceen since Cinema was invented. I think this because Guillermo is the director. No other reason needed.
I watched it, it's fantastic!
Guillermo del Toro is a treasure.
Pinocchio from Guillermo Del Toro is a masterpiece. Thanks Guillermo Del Toro for existing and showing the world how much talent we have in Mexico.
I held my breath when he brought out the puppets. Imagine being in the presence of this genius kind man and his creations/actors. The spectrum of emotions lived by the cast in Pinocchio was extraordinary. The fact that they are puppets is never registered, at least it didn’t for me. Seeing sadness on a wooden face of the boy and the silent decision reflected in his final act made me tear up. Truly a masterpiece.
For me, I think this is the best interview I have seen done by Jimmy yet and he did such an amazing job asking all the right questions and Guillermo just proves how much of a phenomenal artist he is. He defines the passion you find in life and he truly deserves all the success. Wonderful to see how invested Jimmy was in all of this and how much in awe he was, as was I. Wonderful part of the episode.
Is the first time that i see him invested in a conversation. No interrumptions
The poem GDT talks about.
"Del mito" (Jaime Sabines)
Mi madre me contó que yo lloré en su vientre.
A ella le dijeron: tendrá suerte.
Alguien me habló todos los días de mi vida
al oído, despacio, lentamente.
Me dijo: ¡vive, vive, vive!
Era la muerte.
"About the myth" (Jaime Sabines)
My mother told me I cried in her womb.
They told her: He'll have good fortune.
Someone spoke to me every day of my life
In my ear, quietly, slowly,
It told me: Live, live live!
It was Death

Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio is the third installment in a trilogy that began 20 years ago. The other two sister films are Devil's Backbone (2001) and Pan's Labyrinth (2006). The three films talk about childhood interrupted by war and the transition to adulthood. They also address the theme of death and life as two sides of the same coin that defines human existence, as well as loss and mourning.
All three stories are an essay on disobedience, and a manifesto that defends tenderness and love as a form of resistance.
In top of that, all three are set in the era of fascism.
The first two located in Spain during the Spanish Civil War, and the third in Mussolinni's Italy. All three tell a dramatic story with a style that ranges from the realistic to the fantastic. In the narrative genre it is called Magical Realism. The Devil's Backbone is a Gothic ghost story, Pan's Labyrinth is a story about fairies and other fantastic creatures, and Pinocchio is a children's tale, commonly used to talk about right and wrong, where symbolism and morals are used to educate the children.
Guillermo del Toro spoke about his interest in portraying this type of childhood and how these three installments are connected:
"All three movies have to do with childhood colliding with something to do with war and violence. I think for me it's always been the movies about parenthood and being a parent or being a child, and I think in those iterations, fascism seems to be concerned with a father figure of a different kind, and the desire to give ourselves over to a father that unifies thought. So I think it's both background and thematically interesting."

He’s one of the best in film hands down
