    Great presentation thank you. I know the only thin missing is the two exhaust fans need to turn on even if the switch entering the kitchen is off position,
    easy accomplished by running a wire from the first micro switch on the normally open side to the first cont actor bovine hot leg.or the second cont actor bovine hot leg will do the same.
    In case an alarm goes on, the first micro switch will send signal to the firs two cont actor turning the exhaust fan on even if the kitchen switch is off.
    thank you for this great video.

      Electrical part for it
      We need a switch for the light with 20am breaker
      Then sensor
      And fan switch
      Is there some kind a diagram one goes where ?any information will help this is the first time I’m doing it.
      I’m a journeyman for three years
      If you can give me some advice, I would appreciate it

    Thanks for watching! As far as the 2 prong vs 3 prong outlets the only practical way to get a true ground at each recept would be to update the wiring.

    Very educational. But what I don't understand is what happens if your switch is in the off position and a fire occurs? How will the exhaust fans turn on? Where will the power come from?

      This is why its preferable to go with a direct control ventilation system. Captiveaire as well as some other make a system that has temp sensor and/or firestats, depending if its ansul,Tank, or Core, in the hood. The fusible link will still activate the fire suppresion system in this scenario but fans will not operate. DCV system, when the microswitch activates, will power the exhaust fans automatically, no need for a switch to be on

    Hi , there . I have a question about when the Abdul system is triggered, I can see on your diagram that light & outlets all cut out by microswitch. But you didn’t mention how a the Exhaust Fan will turning On ? Since the the switch is on open position.

    If your switch is off and your system goes into fire mode, what turns the exhaust fans on? Should be controlled by one of your NO micro switches, but i don't see the wire. Thanks.

    Great diagram. Thanks but have a couple questions. One.. in your drawing it appears the hood switch must be on for the exhaust to be running even if the Abdul actuates. Is that acceptable? Also it looks like you could tie the Mua and branch circuit/lighting contractors together on the control circuit and avoid using the second ansul device contacts. Sound correct? Thank you!

    i agree seen a house with k&t that had 16 gage stranded wire run to every ground screw on each receptacle then to the basement all stuffed into a large wire nut with one wire running to the ground screw in the disconnect for the watter heater that was feed with modern 10/2 from the 20 year old 100 amp FPE panel that had sort pieces of romex going into j boxes then to the k&t all this covered with insulation so other than the FPE panel everything looked fine and tested as grounded

    Do you do any house rewiring? Got to replace a lightswitch with an outlet, and in the junction box above it I got a few wires, Black, Black, Black, Black and Black.
    I assume they are soldered and wrapped in tar paper (no terminal block or twist on connections or anything, wiring from the early 1920s). Didn't take a too long look at it, just made a mental note it is not a five minute project as I originally thought.
    What would you do? Out with old crummy in with new shiny?

    am i correct if you connect the normally open of the first shunt switch to the ex fan contactors this will ensure the ex fans are on when the switch is off in an emergency state??

    • @electricalindustry

      The make up air is what get shut down in case of a fire. I know what your asking but the systems are not required to turn on the ex fans automatically.

    You are missing a wire, when the Ansul system trips and exhaust fan switch is off, the fans will not turn on. Code requires exhaust to turn on no matter what position the Fan switch is in if Ansul System trips

  • @Decktrio
    @Decktrio 2 роки тому

    Ignorant, but honest question: Why do the exhaust fans remain on in the event of a fire (when the fire emergency button has been pushed)? Wouldn't that cause more air flow, which would increase the size of the fire?

    • @electricalindustry
      @electricalindustry  2 роки тому +1

      The purpose of the ex-fans running during a fire is to reduce heat and smoke. I understand your thinking,
      but the fire department tells me they want the smoke out.

    This is incorrect. The power switch gets wired after the micro switches. You can use one micro switch to control all contactors. In addition, you need to run a wire from the NO (Normally Open) micro switch to the hot leg of the Contactor coil for the exhaust fans. This guarantees that the exhaust fans turn on when they are off or remain on after the system trips. Also, the Hood Lighting will not be controlled by the switch if it's on the same Contactor as the appliance circuits as shown.
