I think that artistic ability is more to do with the mind. If you draw everyday you develop certain muscle memory but if you take a long break you can still visualise certain things and you can practice in your head by imagining which places to give more depth and shading. Art isn't all about constant physical practice, it is about your depth of understanding and how well you understand how to place colour and texture. Practicing is necessary and helps put your understanding into a physical product, but art isn't just about whats on the paper, it is the whole idea and understanding of the world around you. To be able to interpret something into art, you must understand the features and shapes in whatever it is that you are creating. People seem baffled by your improvement after such a long break but its not that strange. It proves that you improved your understanding during that time and you clearly still thought in the way of an artist. When you went back to drawing, you were able to finally release your understanding and then it flourished. You then proceeded to improve through practicing and that made your art even more accurate and advanced. Seeing your improvement was very inspiring. I myself am an aspiring artist and i really love watching videos like this, showing people's improvement.

Art doesn't come from the hands , it's all about how passionate and willing to draw and it doesn't matter what you draw just draw every day and eventually you will improve
That's just because you don't practice. I've been drawing for a few years now, and my art went from trash to something I can live with. I assure you, practice really does help.
I am so greedy when it comes to buying equipment too, so that combined with losing interest in drawing and playing with other hobbies instead doesn't really push me in the correct direction .. I could just order a tablet, but what if I just won't end up using it .. pretty much what happened to my keyboard and guitar and I bought them like a decade ago and just play on them once in awhile.

Making it a habit is the easiest way to stick to something. If it’s something you’re really passionate about, make sure it is a priority, make sure to not “I don’t have time” it. Anyway, that’s enough mothering for me, good luck! ♥️
My dad was an artist when the time I saw his drawing that make me fall in love . My family doesn't support me in drawing 😔 my father leave this beautiful talent because of some tragic happened to our family . But I still work for it no matter how long it takes . By watching your video, makes me so inspired . Thanks sis 😍💖
Trust me, your parents will only support you no matter what you do, what you say or how you act. That's their role, don't ever stop doing what you want to do. We're all different, we all have different families, we all want different things, your parents will disagree for maybe half the things you will say and want. It's time to step up and not to take no bullshit no more hun, otherwise you won't ever get anywhere in life because we're all damned to unfairness. Life is full of it. Doesn't matter who you are, if you like drawing you go drawing girl! Or don't pay any heed of wat i just said after all I'm only 15 but I've seen life in all it's ways possible. Good Luck :-)
This makes starting something new so attainable. Seeing your beautiful work I just assume you started with this amazing work but forget everyone starts somewhere. Thanks for sharing! Motivates me to develop something I love.
Who wouldn’t be a thousand percent impressed by your work? I’ve leaned toward realism too. I started with sketching nature, then painting (watercolor) landscapes and now I’m trying faces. You appear to be a beautiful woman who is extremely accomplished. I would say hard work on something you enjoy is a great combination. Thank you!
This is such a wonderful comment, thank you so much Catherine! I am happy you like my work, I am sure you are great at sketching and painting. Is it possible to see your work somewhere online? :)
Silvie Mahdal hi, the only online place is my Facebook under my whole name, Catherine Levison. I have only done 4 seated attempts at faces. You’ll see those on top. If you scroll down a little you’ll see the last few watercolor landscapes I’ve done. Everything on FB photos comes across darker than in real life. I wrote I lean towards realistic work but I am a beginner who is having a lot of fun with this. I do have watercolor experience in my background, but that was all untrained. I just painted what I saw in nature.
Silvie Mahdal hi, thank you so much. Today I’m sitting down with my new Bristol Smooth Paper, which is white vs. tan, and I’m trying to do the realistic work you do. Hope it works at least a little for me. THANKS!!
How is it that the drawings immediately following a 10 year break are so much better? Surely there must have been some practising going on during the 10 years?
I do not see such a difference but if you do I guess it is because I was 10 years older :) I did not practice during the break, I remember I drew about 3 pictures that I do not have anymore but it cannot be counted as a practice at all.
I agree, I was wondering the same thing! I thought maybe immediately following the break you took a class or something. The drawing following the break did seem much better than where you left off! Very cool video seeing the transformation!
I think as one grows older one sees more of the essential that is so important in arts. I ve noticed the same thing about myself. I could not practice for a long time due to “life” but when i get back to it i feel an improvement. It s weird but its a thing....
Totally didn't change my name :3 some people do have really pretty hands. some people have short stubby fingers and cant wear rings or long nails, where if you have long fingers, rings and longer nails look better.
I so agree Cat415 - once you have it, you view everything differently. When I saw the recent drawings, I could see the hrs of layers she had added to produce the realism. I’m still learning myself, I’ll always be learning I hope, but shading and building a piece slowly are definitely the difference between “not so bad” and “wow”.
@@kylieb4836 absolutely! I mean you really even start to notice it in the world around you like you never did before. Just takes a whole lot of time and practice to get it right 😊

Sugar Baby It's not really. You'd be surprised at how often that happens. Our brain isn't fully developed yet, so when it is we are able to do stuff which we thought we couldn't before. Without practise, my drawings improved from when I was 8 to the time I reached age 15. It'll still keep getting better though.

Now that I'm on a self discovery journey to break through mental health barriers I'm inspired by you to take on this passion again. No matter how rusty i am these days I'll keep going, drawing is so incredibly therapeutic. Thank you for sharing you are one talented human, beautiful work and progress ❤

I really liked this vid because it documented how good you can get when you practice. With patience and time, all things are possible. Thanks for the inspiration.
When I was 11 years old I wanted to be an artist for a living. Drawing and painting was something I always enjoyed doing. My dad told me one day I would never be a successful artist. I would only be successful after death like my favorite artist Vincent Van Gough so I stopped drawing and paiting. It's been a little over 10 years and I'm starting to be inspired to draw again just for fun too. I just got a new sketch and a mind full of thing to draw. Sorry for the long comment, but I felt the need to share. 😅 Thanks for sharing your Journey and most importantly don't give up!
I love this SO MUCH for this. I’ve been making art since as long as I can remember, but I was sooo hard on myself for not having “natural drawing abilities”…. And then I realized that it takes time and practice. It makes all the difference. At 30, I’m finally beginning to love even my less-than-perfect drawings because I know they’re just as important to the process as the “good” ones.
Wow...I'm a self taught artist. I can relate to you with that 10 year break. The last time I did my best work it was in 2006... 13 years ago! Your Video rekindled my passion for drawing again. Thank you so much for sharing...

It's amazing how you drew all these pictures, when I draw my first picture, which was a request from my relative when I said I love to draw. That's just because you don't practice. I've been drawing for a few years now, and my art went from trash to something I can live with. I assure you, practice really does help.
😆😆👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I am so greedy when it comes to buying equipment too, so that combined with losing interest in drawing and playing with other hobbies instead doesn't really push me in the correct direction .. I could just order a tablet, but what if I just won't end up using it .. pretty much what happened to my keyboard and guitar and I bought them like a decade ago and just play on them once in awhile.

Same here. I get discouraged when it comes to drawing very easily

Silvie Mahdal hi, I have my first 5 facial sketches uploaded on my Facebook for you if you get time to look. Catherine Levison. Thank you.

It is DIFFICULT. T-T I need helppp, shading is my BIGGEST struggle 😭😭
