As great as it was seeing your younger drawings, seeing your artistic growth... I found the best part was you talking about your childhood and your really cool grandpa. I loving hearing the origin stories. We all have a story worth telling. ❤

It's amazing how much of a difference supporting your child's creative dreams can make. I gave up for SO many years because schools hated that I'd "waste my time" writing or drawing instead of doing school work. I even had a math teacher rip up some of my writing in the middle of class and toss it in the bin. I wanted to get into animal sciences when I was in 3rd grade but I was told it's a hopeless, nonexistant direction and ultimately gave up on my love for research because I got restricted from reading science and especially from bringing those books out in class. I didn't start drawing until 7th grade but faced the same issues. Now I'm a depressed adult who gave up on dreams and am always struggling to be creative. So please, support your children's creative and ambitious endeavors as much as you can and don't let the schools bully them out of it.
i could get sooooo damn mad at teachers who don't fucking do their jobs. a teachers job is to educate, but most importantly to inspire. not to obliterate your dreams. what the hell🤯
Was excited to be able to compare my current skills with Sam as a child, but this man literally started out better than I am now. The proportions, perspective and concepts of those robuds are really good for a 10 y/o
i wish you could post photos in the comment section, cus i also dont use blenders when shading, only pressure of the pencil, but that portrait at 16:56 the shading is insane for only being in highschool. I didn't get a grip on shading like that till my 20s. you sir are a prodigy.
God damn you were better in middle school than I am now at 20 years old in my second year of art college. And you were drawing more than me. I’ll try not to be too disappointed in myself after finishing this video (Edit: ok just got to the part where you explain why I shouldn’t be disappointed in myself cause I haven’t been studying art for that many years even though I’m 20. the sigh of relief i let out when you said that you already had 7 years of art experiance from the age of 12 and have had a shit ton of lessons at that time... i was already feeling so insecure comparing me now (Im almost 20) to your 12 year old art. Ive only really started drawing since the age of 12 and even tough i went to art school for almost 2 years that was more woodworking then drawing. So yea this really shows, dont just blindly compare, mater of fact dont compare in general.

It’s truly shocking and almost confusing in a way, I just don’t understand how at such a young age you were able to conceptualize such detailed and clean ideas. It doesn’t discourage me or anything, it just genuinely intrigues me bc I don’t know why I wasn’t able to do the same
@@StraightNuts-mq4qs It's not inherent talent, it's learned skill. Sam said he took art classes in China at the age of five, and then continued taking 3 hour classes when he came to Canada. He had artistic opportunities that a lot of people don't get until they're much older, and put in a *lot* of work to make the most of those opportunities

@@StraightNuts-mq4qs if ur bad at drawing, just say that lmao. artists dont come out of the womb with a pre-existing developed mental library. art takes years and years to perfect. again as the person above said, sam took art classes at a very young age and stayed consistent with his art studies. he would not be at the level he is today if it weren't for his fortunate upbringing, and you literally chose to ignore that. to claim art as a mere talent is blatant ignorancy. art takes countless hours of dedication and effort. i dont want your comment to unmotivate art babies who are struggling with their confidence just because you don't know how to study art. i just think you're not putting in the work you need to.
@kar1305 That's super f*cking insensitive and rude as hell to tell someone they are bad at drawing and basically calling them "lazy" (not putting in the work they need to) when you don't even know anything about them, and all because of how they feel or believe. If you don't agree with them then that's your opinion, but to tell them they think that way because they are bad at drawing and lazy? Despicable. Don't pretend you care about what other people are feeling when YOU are personally attacking and unmotivating someone else. There is a talent aspect to literally EVERYTHING humans do. It's why some people will never be on the same level as someone else. It's why a group of people taking the same exact art classes and doing the same amount of studying will always have those shining stars that seem so much more advanced than everyone else. It's why some people read faster than others. It's why some people draw faster than others. It's why some people have better memorization than others so they study less than others. It's why some people seem smarter than others. It's why some people have super creative ideas constantly and others can't think of a single one. Some people play video games all day long for years and that doesn't mean they will be able to beat someone else who hardly plays video games in a competitive game. Some of those people will actually be REALLY bad at the games, despite how long they have played them so "practice" doesn't even equal "better". People have different brains attuned to different things. To say everyone is on the same level of understanding and advances the same is simply untrue. People can put in just as much work as Sam and take the same exact art classes he has and still be worlds behind him. Learning things quickly and being good at it fast is the TALENT aspect. The wiring of your brain. Of course people can always work 200% harder or longer to get on the same level as someone else, but the fact they have to work that much harder and longer means they don't have as much natural talent for that thing as the people ahead of them that got there with less work. People will NEVER be on the same level as everyone else because we are not a hive mind with the same exact capabilities and understanding as everyone else. If you sit a 100 children down in an art classroom for the first time who have never drawn before and all give them the same lesson and hand them the same reference picture to draw from, you think every single one of those kids are going to churn out identical artworks of the same skill level? No. Some of them will end up drawing a picture that looks identical to the reference. Those few are naturally talented. And if they continue with the art and practicing, they will advance faster than all the others because from the get-go they are already really good at replicating what they see. Getting better than they currently are is obviously the skill part. But starting out that good and being able to draw what they see, identifying the shapes in a reference and recreating them is a talent. To say talent doesn't exist and people just aren't working as hard as other people is not only untrue but an insult to people that have worked their butt off and just aren't on the same level as other people who have had to put in LESS work.
It is so depressing watching this knowing that Sam was better than me(a 19yo) as a 13yo😕😕 the art that you create today does not surprise me now that I see the incredible talent and hard work that preceded it Edit: 13:27, thank you for this Sam😅😂 makes me feel much better

Drawing that kind of stuff in 3d/ perspective at the early age of 10 , really showed you have talent . Sure , experience and hardwork is equally as important but so is natural talent

And also though I drew well for my age when I was around 11-ish, what I was good at was so different from what you were and... well this was just so inspiring man! Thanks for sharing! And for the goofiness too lol.
As great as it was seeing your younger drawings, seeing your artistic growth... I found the best part was you talking about your childhood and your really cool grandpa. I loving hearing the origin stories. We all have a story worth telling. ❤
it's insane how good Sam's art was and he was 11?!? pure talent
He literally says its not talent
It's not talent, he started learning art before elementary school. Pure talent is not a compliment, it's a insult
I am surprised you are only 25, thanks for sharing your journey and explaining how much work you get done to come at this point. I always say drawing is how much you practice but when I see works of great artists it got me rethink. Age really don't matter thanks for showing that. ❤
Sams shading and shape language on mechanical objects as a kid was crazyyyyy
11:16 Sam is showing us a piece of art that he made in his childhood with the expression "Yeah, its fine..."
Bro this is mastery
So please, support your children's creative and ambitious endeavors as much as you can and don't let the schools bully them out of it.
rooting for you bro, screw that old school and b a creative researcher all u want
i could get sooooo damn mad at teachers who don't fucking do their jobs. a teachers job is to educate, but most importantly to inspire. not to obliterate your dreams. what the hell🤯
8:27 sam there is no WAY you drew this in middle school the shading looks so CLEAAAN like WHAAAT
I’d like to see Sam pick some of his unfinished work to complete for fun 😊
I actually did that reccently with my old unfinished drawings and its very fun to do
YES
Was excited to be able to compare my current skills with Sam as a child, but this man literally started out better than I am now. The proportions, perspective and concepts of those robuds are really good for a 10 y/o
Same always tells us that we won’t be amazing unless we practice. BUT LOOK AT HIS 10-11 YEAR OLD ART, THEY’RE AMAZING
i wish you could post photos in the comment section, cus i also dont use blenders when shading, only pressure of the pencil, but that portrait at 16:56 the shading is insane for only being in highschool. I didn't get a grip on shading like that till my 20s. you sir are a prodigy.
God damn you were better in middle school than I am now at 20 years old in my second year of art college. And you were drawing more than me. I’ll try not to be too disappointed in myself after finishing this video
(Edit: ok just got to the part where you explain why I shouldn’t be disappointed in myself cause I haven’t been studying art for that many years even though I’m 20. I felt personally called out lmfao. Still disappointed in myself for not drawing as much and as often as you though)
Those middle school drawings are amazing! The shading alone is blowing my mind. Love it!
I didn’t think I could cringe at my old art because we all start somewhere. Well, I was proven wrong not so long ago
It’s kinda wholesome that you find some of your older work impressive that’s kinda rare for an artist
This guy could have been a modern Van Goh or something and yet he became an educational art UA-camr with some of my favorite humor.
It's not about comparing but now it's about blaming myself for not taking up art earlier in life and exploring it 😭😭😭😭
SUGGESTION: You should redraw some of them now in your style. It would be cool to see your spin on what younger you did.
the sigh of relief i let out when you said that you already had 7 years of art experiance from the age of 12 and have had a shit ton of lessons at that time... i was already feeling so insecure comparing me now (Im almost 20) to your 12 year old art. Ive only really started drawing since the age of 12 and even tough i went to art school for almost 2 years that was more woodworking then drawing. So yea this really shows, dont just blindly compare, mater of fact dont compare in general.
Can we talk about how supportive Sam's mom has been. As some who also had a mom that encouraged our creative endeavors, it's been an amazing time and to have someone to push you sometimes is just such an opportunity to create something new.😊
this was really fun to watch! reminds me of my days getting lost in my sketchbooks during school lmao. i loooove seeing how technical and refined you slowly became without losing your creativity, it's awesome and inspiring
Sam is a seasoned artist, he has literally been painting since he was born🙌.
P.S that tablet needs to be taken to a phone repairer we need to see your old digital arts🥺
Most common fault is a battery and it's easily replaceable, it would definitely be worth a try to bring all that art back to life again
I honestly like this video format more than his other videos, the editing is less saturated and makes the video easier to digest
These are literally amazing for a 10-17 year old (although its not that much of a surprise)
I love how Sam was like “oh no this will be so embarrassing!” and then it actually ended up being very impressive (and even seemed to impress himself)
Idk like I’m actually just at a loss of words. I’ve been drawing since I was at least 7, pretty much whenever I had free time. I always drew strictly from imagination but from what I can remember I was never able to think or draw that level of detail. It’s truly shocking and almost confusing in a way, I just don’t understand how at such a young age you were able to conceptualize such detailed and clean ideas. It doesn’t discourage me or anything, it just genuinely intrigues me bc I don’t know why I wasn’t able to do the same
Talent is the secret Sauce .idk why people are in denial. Pretty depressing :/
@@mia-saraking5479 my man, his drawings as a child look insane. is usain bolt not inherently talented? i bet on my life that you would never get to the level of usain bolt no matter the opportunites you would have along the way.not in a 1000 years .art is not different when it comes to talent. im not saying dont draw but dont be delusional and give people false hope
10:50 "This kids not doin nothin, go paint."
"EAEgeaeGHEAahgeaHEaegh"
Its funny that his sketchbooks are older than some viewers
It is so depressing watching this knowing that Sam was better than me(a 19yo) as a 13yo😕😕 the art that you create today does not surprise me now that I see the incredible talent and hard work that preceded it
Edit: 13:27, thank you for this Sam😅😂 makes me feel much better
Oml finally i always wanted to see Sam rating his old art...
stop why is your art from age 10 better than my whole life's work 😭😭😭
5:43 At 13 years old you'd be drawing like that?! Holy cow, I'm jealous
bro this whole time i was just thinking "well, im gonna give up on art now lmao" everything was literally so bewildering but then he goes on to talk about his learning experience and about practicing and then i'm like "oh so that's why i still suck, i got to put effort in gosh darn it" but all hail the art god Sam, it was truly so cool to see all this old art and development
This was so awesome to see. I love seeing the growth of an artist, because it tells a story. This was the first video I watched on your channel and this was so wholesome to see and experience. SUBBED!
I’m truly surprised, at 10-13, your art was so good! Thank you show showing us art babies ❤
It's wonderful to see an artist with confidence in their own childhood skills! And yes, your art was and is amazing. Well done.
0:09 stop trying to separate these two love birds
your raw natural talent is both astounding and inspirational
Sam, Sam, Sam. I know you are super talented, I love your art, love your videos. And now seeing the "little you".... omg. you were incredible even at 12 yrs old. I hope you are very , very proud of yourself. I know you joke about how bad this or that is, no , no , no. Please acknowledge how truly awesome this work is. How very special to see the sketch of your grandfather, loved that so much, and the watercolors, beautiful!! I leave your videos feeling so inspired and for that I thank you. Merry Christmas, Sam.
4:22 the guns are so cool and the lines are clean
this is insane. Sam creating amazing art when i was just one year old :') thanks for showing your absolute masterpieces and embarrassing yourself as well Sam 😌☝️
this man has REAL talent dude like..
sam at age 13: complete mechanical overlord design
me at goddamn 17: * forgets to breath *
1:16 DID YOU DRAW THOSE WHEN YOU WERE 10?????
i went into this video pretty confident and got absolutely floored. the three dimensional feel of the elementary and middle school works is insane, and the natural understanding of colour is just.... holy crap. that brown forest painting goes so hard. the humans are scuffed ofc, thats a given, but the battleship, mecha, landmark and monster designs are so incredibly detailed and look so impressive, id really not be surprised to see some of them in a professional book. the sheer level of creativity man. yeeeesh
Like i'm so so so surprised and amazed by his sketches, even from his 1st sketch book He made every smallest details of the sketches LIKE WOW and just look at me who just don't know how to draw sketches even at 17.... Hats off SAM..💫 You are probably great by birth✨
It's the evolution of your, mine and everyone else's art that matters, not the "objective" quality itself. A quick 20 minute sketch I make now looks better than a 2 hour drawing when I first started. And it's that improvement that makes me happy and should make everyone who pursues art happy
Sam is just ready to display his embarazing art just to entertain us art babies😆
Crap i forgot to add the quotation marks 😭
But his art is actually good tho😂
He embarrassing me tbh because he just does better than me
@@Lol-zc1vd same😭
I used to use mechanical pencils 24/7 at first, until I delved into pens. Then markers. And now all of them. I first to pencils, pens, then color! :D
Sam was already an AMAZING artist as a kid, I don’t even stand a chance 😫😭
Drawing that kind of stuff in 3d/ perspective at the early age of 10 , really showed you have talent .
Sure , experience and hardwork is equally as important but so is natural talent
My gosh. Bro's better at drawing at 9 then i am now. (Applause) Good show, Sam. Good Show.👏
Wow, Sam had amazing technical skills at 10 years old. He was breaking down shapes to form complex mecha characters, trying to draw in perspective, even tried exaggerating proportions for human designs. That’s awesome!
Sammy being an art god from age 8 seems accurate
14:02 sam’s a furry, confirmed?????
Gotta love Sam lore
middle school sam had some insane understanding on metalic materials like damn, your creativity is also next level, ive never seen someone be able to create something so detailed at 12
6:52 - Sam: I am slightly impressed....
Meanwhile me: I could not even draw anything different from 2 mountains and sun rising from between them
You are amazing bro....
him saying that his stuff wasnt that good back then. I'm 15 and I can barely do that stuff you did as a 10 yr old lol soo good. i subscribeed
i cant believe sams first sketchbook era was my first year since birth era 🙀🙀🙀 i bet our periods are also synced for life 😍🥰🥰
GIRL WHAT
Jaw on the FLOOR
I like how sam is both comforting us that we shouldnt compare age with drawing and being impressed with his art and embarrassed to show it at the same time.
Sam want from drawing cool robot's to anime wifus 💀✨
This is insane! You and I are around the same age and started drawing around the same age, yet the skill level is WORLDS apart. The drawings from when you were 13-15 look better than my drawings now at 26 lmao. You were always so good!
I do appreciate the background you give for how you worked on your craft. I definitely had a massive obstacle in not having a good support system for my passions. I often faced harsh, unfounded criticism and comments that lead to me becoming burnt out on art once I finished high school. I'm only getting back into it now and your videos have been such a joy for me and are great at refreshing my memory. Thank you for sharing your content with us.
Dude I was expecting to see actual bad art 😭but it was nowhere in sight, he was just always good at detailing
Crazy how incredibly good your art was with young age
3:33 the drawing on the left reminds me of that big rhino looking creature in the movie avatar
Armour and weapons is like an mandatory character arc for every child male artist
THE OLD ART ALREDY SO SLAYYY, LIKE SAM BFFR🙄🙄
why is his first sketchbook art better than my art as a 15 year old😭😭
